    Hi Friends,
I need best Discoverer Desktop Tutorial...Please any one help me..

Well this is completely subjective, but if you use the generic Oracle Discoverer Desktop tutorial AND you go through the Desktop documentation online via Technet, you'd be hard pressed to get better training.
It's free - and you really do learn alot - especially the documentation.
Apart from that, the online Oracle education classes used to have an option where for a couple of hundred bucks, you could take all the classes you want for some period of time, but you'd have to see if it covers Disco as well.
But for me ... put in the effort with the generic tutorial that comes with the product and rely on the online documentation, really works with Disco as they've probably covered most of it.

  • Where can I find free training tutorial or training materials on Discoverer

I am learning to use Discoverer 10g Release 2. Would any one show me where I can download free training tutorial or materials on Discoverer and Data Warehouse related tools? Thanks.

    Hi
In addition to the material referenced by Russ may I also point you in the direction of my download page on my website: http://learndiscoverer.com/downloads/downloads.htm
and to my blog at: http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com
My downloads page has all of the presentations that I have given over the past few years. If you're looking to see how admin is set up then take a look at TwoHourEUL.zip. This one was a live two-hour demo, hence the name, on how to create a Discoverer EUL. Datadefs.zip contains the base tutorial database that I use.
Now this is not free, although only $43 plus shipping, but you might want to consider getting hold of a copy of my Discoverer 10g Handbook via: http://learndiscoverer.com/books/books.htm. This book is written like a giant training manual and written specifically for 10g R2.
Finally, if you want proper classroom style training, my company offers on-site training in all versions of Discoverer. Our links are below.
By the way, if you have never looked at Mark Rittman's blog, referred to by Russ, take a look. It really is a cool resource for all things BI. I wish I had the time to write on my blog like Mark. http://rittman.net
    I hope this helps

  • Discoverer 4.1.37-- Printing workbooks is not possible

    Hello all,
One problem arise on many computers: when trying to print any worksheet(min 4 pages) from Discoverer 4.1.37 (network client installation) on windows XP, the processor usage in task manager is 100% and the computer is dead.
No printing is send to printer. Only after killing discoverer everithing is returning to normal
Desktop workstations are Celeron 1,5 -2 Ghz,
Oracle DB is 9.0.2. Printers are shared network printers.
Also when trying to print prewiew the worksheet the processor goes to 100% and the computer is stuck forever.
    Does anyone encounter this?
    Thank you for reply
    Grigore

Yes. Discoverer reports are report layout definitions only. The Administrator edition must be installed and use it to install the tutorial content into the End User Layer (EUL). The Administrator edition configures the metatdata (Business Areas, folders and access privileges - joins and grants) that allow the Desktop, plus and viewer editions to display the results.

    Hi Yram
Great explanation and good posting with lots of useful information.
You need to administer and log in to Apps as an Apps user. You use a database user only for the purposes of creating the EUL. It would take a long time to explain all of the steps here. However, I have an illustrated white paper on my downloads page that explains setting up an EUL in Apps mode.
At first glance though it sounds like you may not have defined a Gateway UserID and Foundation Name inside Discoverer Administrator. You do this using Tools | Options | Connection. The Gateway UserID and Password is usually applsyspub/pub, while the Foundation Name is apps. The entries are usually in lowercase.
My downloads page can be found at: http://learndiscoverer.com/downloads/downloads.htm and the document is called Setting up an Apps mode EUL.
Let me know how you get on.

  • Migration of Discoverer 1g reports to OBIEE

we are trying to migrate reports from Discoverer 10g to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.We have migrated the EUL using the utility tool provided by OBIEE.
Now we were trying to use the sample reports and migrate the same to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
We are using a sample xml which we will be using to migrate the reports .We have a web service which takes report inputs in this XML format, converts and save OBIEE reports.
SInce OBIEE does not have tabs(worksheets) like Discoverer,we thought
we will have to prepare xml for each tab and present it as a single
    report in OBIEE.
    1) Can u please suggest if this is right or there is some
workaround for it or if anyone has idea about it?
We could also do some changes to the xml to incorporate some functions of discoverer if anyone has suggestions.
We are assuming that Crosstab reports are similar to Pivot tables in OBIEE.
    2) But we are not sure how to incorporate the page items in thexml.plz suggest if anyone has ideas since not sure if page items can be handled in OBIEE.
    3) Can someone help us in completing with this below xml by taking example of the sample reports present in discoverer. The values of reports are to be included in the xml
Any help would be great since we are trying this for the first time and we are not well versed with xml too. Please find below the sample xml we are using

    Hi,
I opened the Discoverer administrator and clicked on export.
in next step i selected the option "Selected obects in the end user layer" for "what do u want to export"?
i choose workbook and selected the sample workbook "Video Tutorial workbook"
Then i gave the name "Video Sales Tutorial" and saved the file in a folder and selected the check box "generate xml for exported workbooks"
I got the file in the folder as Video Sales Tutorial.eex.That .eex file had details of the workbook name and all other information
    <UniqueIdent ConstraintName="DOC1" Batch="False" DeveloperKey="VIDEO_TUTORIAL_WORKBOOK"/>
But to get these workbook details we have to always save the workbook in the DB.We cannot save the workbook in our file system.
Am i right?Since only workbooks which are in DB can be exported.
Thanks a lot for the info. Will try to analyze this information

  • How to pass parameter to a Discoverer Plus OLAP Worksheet??

    Hi,
I have used discoverer plus OLAP and portal to develop executive dashboards in my company. I put my date dimension in Page Item of discoverer plus OLAP worksheet to view a specific week/month/year of analysis i.e. Jul-07.
Now I have to open all the worksheets and change the page item value when week/month ends. If it was 'Jul-07' then I have to change it as 'Aug-07'.
In discoverer plus OLAP we can't pass parameters as we can in discoverer relational.
Can someone help me how I can set the new values without opening discoverer worksheets?
    Regards,
    Shahid

    Dear Shahid,
I downloaded the Oracle Application Server SOA Suite 10.1.3.1.0. While installing It gave me two options
    1. Basic Install
Install J2EE server and SOA suite of applications including BPEL, ESB
    and OWSM.
    2. Advance Install (This gives 4 options)
    a. J2EE Server, Web Server and SOA suite
    b. J2EE Server and Web Server
    c. J2EE Server
    d. Web Server\
According to your instructions I need to install it as Insfrastructure, BI and portal. Now can you tell me which option of the install I should select in order to meet the requirements of Infrastructure, BI and Portal.
Because I am very new in this technology so If you can guide to me to get started at least then I can follow the Oracle Tutorial for further training.
Thanks very much in this regards.

  • New features of Discoverer 10.1.2?

    Hi all,
I need information about which are the new features of Discoverer 10.1.2 version in comparison with 4i version.
I'm trying to find it in Discoverer documentation and OTN tutorial... Even I'm doing the
Exploring the New Features of OracleBI Discoverer Administrator.. but this is like a Tuotial of how to do or manage this version.. not a list of which are that new features...
    Do you have something similar..?
I only look for a list...
    Thanks

    Hi Prerana
Thanks for the nice comments about the presentation.
Do you mean OLAP instead of OLTP? If you are referring to OLAP then yes the data is stored in a multidimensional cube. Actually it is an analytic workspace. Be careful of the OLAP approach as Oracle's implementation of it is not as good as you might think. If you look at other postings in this forum you will see several comments about poor performance of Oracle OLAP. Keeping the size of the cube small and keeping the number of dimensions to the minimum are some of the tricks to making Oracle OLAP work well.
If you meant OLTP, the traditional database method of working, then the data is queried dynamically. That said, you can use materialized views that will work out the answers in advance so that even in the traditional method you will have the data precomputed.
    Best wishes

  • Seeking general tutorial for iMac, iPad, iPhone

I have been using Apple for the past 2 years, but I do have some spare time available right now, so I'm wondering if there is some kind of general tutorial process which would help me get better organized, and not waste effort needlessly, if I can learn to understand the sync tools available for our iPad2, iPhone4S, and iMac (2009, Intel, and 24-inch).
For example, I type in appointments onto my iPhone4S, and I'm still trying to figure out how to sync it up with the iCal on our dekstop iMac.  I think that I would feel more organized if I could really understand how to use these apps and

in case you have not done iCloud, you can use blue tooth. I opened Finder and used the Help box in the menu to find this:
    To turn on Bluetooth:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Bluetooth.
Select the On checkbox. To allow other Bluetooth enabled devices to “discover” your computer and send files, also select the Discoverable checkbox.
Select “Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar” so you can quickly send files and perform other actions using the Bluetooth status menu in the menu bar.
    HideTo send files using Bluetooth:
Choose Send File from the Bluetooth status menu in the menu bar.If the Bluetooth menu isn’t visible, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Bluetooth, and select “Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar.”
In the window that appears, select the file you want to send, and then click Send.
Select the device you want to send the file to, and then click Send.If you don’t see the device you want to send the file to, make sure the device has Bluetooth turned on and is discoverable.
You can set options for what happens when others try to send you files or browse your computer using Bluetooth. For more information, open Bluetooth File Exchange, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder, and choose Help > Bluetooth Help.

  • Discoverer 4i Admin

    Hi!!
I installed Discoverer 4.1 in 11.5.9, and the tabs for Install tutorial are not available in EUL manager, whereas they were available in Vision Database for the same.
Moreover for any business Area that I create, it only has the EUL definition tables availables and none of the tables for the data in the same, for creating the workbooks/worksheets.
I am trying to have all the Business Areas defined in a single user EUL, named : "eul" ,for both Applications as well as database users, and the above problems persist.
    Thanking you in anticipation..

Further to the good advice from Con, you should find out which directory is the correct OracleHome directory as, for example, you may have installed Disco Admin 10g on the same box - but in a different directory - from Disco Admin 4.
First thing I'd do is see where you put Disco Admin 10g and make sure the Oracle home has the appropriate tnsnames.ora (and sqlnet.ora) file for that Oracle home.
ie: Let's say you setup 10g in: c:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1 (a popular place) and there would be a subdirectory of: network\admin below it.
That's where you'd copy your existing 4.x tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora for now to see if okay.
Note that your v4.x location is a bit different in that network is probably net80, but apart from that, it's similar.
If still having problems, then to determine your correct Oracle home you can check the registry but check the aforementioned first.

  • Discoverer 11g generates weird queries with fields of date dastatype

    Hi,
We recently installed Discoverer 11g and found out that it always adds "+0" expression to all fields of date datatype in SQL in reports. For example:
    SELECT ( O100186.END_DATE+( ( 0 ) ) ), O100186.INSTITUTIONID, O100186.INSTITUTIONNAME
    FROM INSTITUTION_MV O100186
WHERE ( ( O100186.END_DATE+( ( 0 ) ) ) >= SYSDATE-10 );It causes problems with outer join queries and also prevents optimizer from using indexes on date fields.
Is there a way to remove these "+0" expressions from queries?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Calculation in Discoverer Desktop

I am new to this forum, and pretty new to Discoverer so please go easy on me, and I'm sorry if I ask what seems like easy/stupid questions!
I am wanting to create a calculation to appear as a column against some data I have on my report.
My report shows data sorted by groups, one column is called Work Days Lost. I am wanting to do a calculation using another folder called Person Budget FTE.
However, when I create my rather simple calculation of the two folders Work Days Lost/Person Budget FTE, it only calculates on what is shown on screen. What I want it to do is calculate on Work Days Lost (what is shown on the screen - the groupings) but then on Person Budget FTE by department (Department is a Page Item which is chosen to show the data).
    I hope this is clear?!!
Can anybody help by providing the calculation that I should use - I guess what I really need to do is group the Person Budget FTE by the folder Dept?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Chariot,
It's not exactly clear to me what you want, but it sounds as if you need an analytical function. That's SQL functionality, so in your calculation you can use something like:
sum(budget) over (partition by dept, order by dept).
You can look up this functionality in either the SQL reference or the Discoverer User guide (in the Discoverer tutorial are some excellent examples).
    Regards,
    Sabine
