Tutorials on using Keynote to enhance iMovie or IWeb projects

Are their any tutorials, urls, etc. that go into depth about using Keynote to improve iMovie or iWeb projects? In other words, using the features of Keynote to produce some cool object that is then placed in one of those programs?
I have been doing some already, but suspect I am barely scratching the surface of what Keynote could do for iMovie or iWeb.
Thanks
bob

The best way I've found to make a movie from a presentation on the iPad is with the app Explain Everything. You can send your keynote file to Explain Everything as a pdf and then narrate and annotate while recording audio. In the end Explain Everything outputs mpeg-4 videos that most any device can view. We use it heavily for the classes I teach.

  • Using Keynote as Flash Importing into iWeb

i am trying to import a flash file i made in keynote but there is a terrible border that surrounds the flash - has anyone had any luck? thanks

I´m not sure if this works since I don't have any flash file near myself, but you should try to go to View > Show Inspector. Then you could go to the Graphics tab and select Stroke: None.
Also you could insert some shapes and place them around the flash file.

  • Using Keynote and iPhoto slideshow together

    Computer: 12" Powerbook G4, 1.5ghz
Display: 23" Apple Cinema Display (1920x1200)
    Software: OSX 10.4.9, Keynote 2, iPhoto 6
Hi everyone! Above are the specs for the project I'm working on and here's the problem I'm having:
I am trying to create a makeshift kiosk display for an upcoming event using slides in Keynote and a picture slideshow in iPhoto. I'm planning on running it off my Powerbook to my 23" Cinema Display.
I'm using Keynote for the presentation content because of the motion effects (transitions, build-ins, etc.) and iPhoto for the image slideshow because of the Ken Burns effect (which I don't believe Keynote has). Both look great running seperately, however when this is being displayed at the show, I'll need both to run back to back automatically, without having to manually switch back and forth between applications.
I have both the Keynote presentation and the iPhoto slideshow displaying at 1920x1200. I've tried exporting the iPhoto slideshow to Quicktime, but it won't export any higher than 640x480. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make this work? I won't be able to operate the computer when this is running, so I really need to find a way to make everything run seamlessly while keeping the high resolution of the 1920x1200 monitor.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks,
    -Steve
    PB 12" 1.5ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

iMovie is a DV editing app and the final results would still make a 640X480 file.
I would change a few things to make everything work together:
First is the display resolution. You want the 23 inches to be used so just reduce the display preferences to try and match your QuickTime file. 800X600 sounds about right but larger will still work as H.264 Video scales up in size very nicely.
This would force you to "reduce" the dimensions of the Keynote file but that shouldn't be much of an issue.
QuickTime Pro could also be used to "change" the dimensions of the 640X480 file. Again, H.264 scales up in size and would look pretty good at even double size.
The goal is to have them both at the same dimension and then match the monitor resolution.
Easier to change the display than the files.

  • Recommended tutorials for using paths/vector art in Photoshop?

    Hi all!
Can you recommend any good tutorials for using paths/vector art in Photoshop?
Honestly, I've had a good look for even one - without much success.
I Have lots of experience with paths/vector art in Illustrator, Fireworks and InDesign but I believe you really can do great things with them in Photoshop now for illustration work.
i'm just baffled by it. I can fill and stroke and edit a vector shape in PS - but if I custom DRAW a vector path or shape, things get confusing!
Hoping someone can point me in a helpful direction
    John

    John,
I wouldn't claim to know everything there is to know, but I'm reasonably certain it hasn't changed.
Are the 'shapes' just vector masks with a raster element inside?
Yes. That's an accurate enough description.
And if you apply a colour to a path that you've drawn - does it rasterise?
It doesn't have to rasterize. If you see color, it's pixels.
I was definitely of the impression that a lot more could be done in PS these days that might formerly have been done in ILLUSTRATOR.
The shape/path tools in Photoshop have been enhanced and improved in recent years, but the product of their use still differs from Illustrator's true vector output.

  • SHould I use keynote for this?

We will exhibit at the Frankfurt ProLight+Sound this year and the task of producing the picture slideshow with promotional material has fallen on to my desk.
Plan is to have three plasma screens connected in to one giant screen so that images move from one screen to another, to the third, and so on.
Should I use keynote to produce this? Or is it better to do something in iMovie/FCE/FCP? Or is Director the software to use?
The other thing is that this will run either on a PC or off a DVD player and it has to be looped.
    Thanks in advance.

I would suggest using FCP because I don't think iMovie can show 3 pictures at the same time. FCP does cost a lot and is used by many to edit movies (Like any movie you would see in a theater). I wouldn't suggest buying it if your not going to use it a lot. Then use Keynote. Make the pictures move with each slide. Loop it and make it a QuickTime (.mov). Click 'Manual Advance' and change it to 'Fixed Timing'. Click 'None' and change it to 'Loop'. Check 'Enter full screen mode when opened'. Click on 'Full Quality, Large' and change it to 'CD-ROM Movie, Medium'. Check 'Include transparency'. That should make it easy to burn to CD/DVD and play back on a Windows Machine. On a VCR I have no idea.

  • Making a Presentation using Keynote

Hi there, I am relatively new to the Imac and love using Keynote, I would love to add animation, using a airplane or boat showing it going from one country to another country for my slide show. Where do I find the boat or plane and good quality maps of countries. I appreciate any time that anyone has for me

    G'day,
I'm guessing you just watched the Keynote tutorials. You could always browse around in Google Images.

  • Using garageband 09 with imovie 09

    new to imove & garageband
some questions on using garageband 09 with imovie 09...
    - Is there a URL that explains in detail how to use garageband with imove 09 to improve a voice only naration track?
    - Is there a URL that explains in detail each of garage bands effects/audio unit effects on the sound track?
    - is it correct that once you share an imovie to garage band and edit the sound track with garageband you can not "re-share" it back to imovie for video editing?
    - in post production, I am use to doing the following for sound track:
noise reduction, compression/expansion/limiting, equalization, normalize to -1dB.
Some have garage band effects have corresponding names, like compression. But, is there a noise reduction?
    Thanks
    Bob

    This might be helpful: http://comtechlab.iupui.edu/tutorialsfolder/tutorials.html
No URL that explains the effects in depth to my knowledge, maybe one of the books, like Missing Manual or the Apple Certified when it comes out.
Some high level info here: http://www.thegaragedoor.com/index.html
Correct, there is no round trip editing. However, you should be able to import the completed movie back into iMovie as a new event and then bring it into a project.
Not sure there is noise reduction.

  • Import Keynote Slides into Imovie

Is it possible to import a Keynote slide into Imovie? If not, is there some way to create a "call out" word balloon and make it appear with a still photo in Imovie?

    sure ..
    https://sites.google.com/site/karstenschluter/how-to-make-a-vidcast/keynote
demoes the usage of Keynote with iMovie.
you can use 'animated' presentations or single 'charts' as jpegs ..
.. If not, is there some way to create a "call out" word balloon and make it appear with a still photo in Imovie?
    two options:
    • prepare the still in some 'paint'-app, demoed here:

  • Expoting a Keynote file into iMovie

I am trying to find anyway to import any quicktime file into iMovie and have this look good. I have tried all different compressions and still no luck. I am trying to export a Keynote presentation out to a quicktime file and then send to iMovie to mix with audio.
Does anyone have any idea how to accomplish this with iMovie or any other tool?

Thanks for the reply. Actually my end target is to out to a DVD and\or a quicktime file. I am trying to build a tutorial using Keynote and an Apple Script called http://automator.us/self-prezo/.
I had eveything working perfectly with a text to speech component...Perfect for training, however when I went to record the presentation using Snapz Pro, this would not work. I can record the audio but not the video.
So my next thought was to export the actual Keynote presentation and import this into iMovie, and then mix with Audio. Problem is when I bring in the Keynote quicktime file into iMovie, it looks terrible as you know.
Hopefully this gives you a better idea of what I am really trying to accomplish.
    Thanks for your help!

  • New to apple and wondering if using keynote is easier than power point.

    Hello all,
I have only been using os x for about 6 months, and I was wondering if using keynote is easier than power point? I am in school so I need to know if keynote will save in ppt format. The school that I go to only uses MS office 97 to 2004 format for all docs and power points. Is using keynote that much different?

i find keynote MUCH easier in almost all areas. it did take me a little learning in the beginning. the main thing to know is that apple uses a floating pallet call "inspector" to control just about all the details of the presentation. they also have a "formatting bar" which is conceptually similar to the formatting bars microsoft uses in the previous versions of office (font size, etc...).
the basic entry for slides is the same, where one just types into the fields on the slides. what i find much better is the control i have in the "inspector" to fine tune anything. i've gotten completely dependent on keynotes "staging" which is how one makes the slides animate. if i have a series of bullets and a diagram, i use the staging to get the diagram to be revealed in stages and to get the bullets appear one at a time in sync with the diagram i'm explaining. nothing is more boring for an audience to have someone just stand up, thru up a slide with 100 words and read the text bullets.
i find keynote to be much easier to develop diagrams or to copy and paste in a PDF picture. then add the staging effects i need to develop the story to explain the diagram or picture. it does take a little learning how to do it the first couple times. but the interface is consistent and it's not hard to learn it.
the only aspect i find a little easier in powerpoint is the indenting style, which is controlled in one of the editing buttons in office 11 and before. keynote controls the indenting from the "inspector" instead of having a little button in the formatting bar. but in every other way, i find keynote to be MUCH easier to use. and it has other features that powerpoint doesn't have. plus iwork is very inexpensive compared to microsoft office. finally, if you are near an apple store, they have free seminars on iWork fairly often. the 1st time i used keynote, i went to the apple store workshop and got a few answers. just see how easy it is to get person to person help for microsoft office...
the only other game in town are the various releases of the open source programs, "open office" and "neo office". they are free, also read and write ppt files, but are a little harder to use than keynote and don't have as many features.
    anyway, that's my experience.
    good luck!

  • I use keynote 5.1 and am bombarded with popups asking me to update to KN 6.  I tried 6 after upgrading to Maverick. Do not like it.

I can't update software because a message appears that I have to log with the same Apple ID that was used to purchase them: iMovie, Garage Band, iPhoto, but those apps came with OSX Lion.

  • Is there a way i can use the themes from imovie in final cut

i would like to use the themes in iMovie '11 (e.g. news theme) in my video in final cut.

You can't directly. You could make part of the video like the open in FCE and export it and then import it into FCE, but the themes don't apply to FCE.

  • How do I dispute a copyright claim against a video i made using a trailer in iMovie? The only content I used was the video I shot of friends daughter on a merry-go-round.IMovie had the music etc that I used.

How do I dispute a copyright claim against a video i made using a trailer in iMovie? The only content I used was the video I shot of friends daughter on a merry-go-round.IMovie had the music etc that I used. Here's the message It gives a number of options to choose from if I want to dispute the claim but I don't know which one this would come under. Several obviously don't apply and of the ones left I don't know which content that is in IMovie that I use comes under. "This video is my original content and I own the rights to it" "I have a license or written permission of the property rights holder to use this material" "My use of the content meets the legal requirements for fair use of fair dealing under applicable copyright laws" or "The content is in the public domain or is not eligible for copright protection."

You want to use the "I have a license..." option, since clearly the music is not yours, but Apple has granted you a license.
For your license, see this document, section 2.M. http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/iMovie.pdf
For more on this irritating problem and why it is so hard to solve, see this article. (It is a problem for Final Cut Pro users as well.)
