    PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS ANEW SESSION! Apologies to those that have contributed already but I have been unable to reply unless by email on the original session!

    I am very new to Dreamweaver and indeed to mySql. So, I am going through the the 3 David Powers Tutorials that are available for PHP & MySQL. I have successfully negotiated the 1st tutorial and am on the 2nd one and have got to a place where I am stalled!I am working on the file "manage_posts.php" and have got successfully "Building a simple recordset" - successfully built the Recordset via that dialog box which tests perfectly showing the contents of the news Table in MySQL. I can bind the recordset results in the page and save the file "manage_posts.php" but when I click Live View the live view fails and I get a 404 error - in other words manage_posts.php does not show the last entry of the news table! I have tried everything that I can think of including deleting manage_posts.php and starting over, but still no good!
    Can anyone advise me on this please as to waht may be wrong and how perhaps to analyse what the error may be? I would appreciate any help as it is very frustrating not to be able to progress further.

  • Nokia 5800 Tips, Review, FAQs and How-to tutorials

    Hi, guys. Here I worked out comprehensive Nokia tutorial with my lovely Nokia 5800. You will find all the most commonly asked questions for Nokia 5800.
    Review of My Nokia 5800
    I got one 5800 last month and then I was deeply fascinated by this smart phone. It is the first Nokia touch screen phone and you may use your finger or stylus to operate it. Also Nokia 5800 XpressMusic provides wonderful devices for users to enjoy music. Taking advantage of touch screen technology, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic introduces the ‘Media Bar’, a handy drop down menu that provides direct access to music and entertainment, including favourite tracks, videos and photos. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic offers all the music essentials, including a graphic equalizer, 8GB memory for up to 6000 tracks, a 3.5mm jack, support for main digital video formats 3GP,H.264/AVC,MPEG4, RM.and audio formats MP3, AAC, WMA, WMV. Built-in surround sound stereo speakers offer the industry’s most powerful sound. So it is really wonderful experience of enjoy music and movies with Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
    How to update the firmware of Nokia 5800 to v21
    It is good news that firmware update for Nokia 5800 was released already. New firmware v.21 is available. If you also own a 5800, just follow the simple instruction to update your v20 or v10 to the newest v21.
    Make sure that your battery is full (VERY IMPORTANT)
    1. Go to Dial screen and press *#0000#
    2. Press Options -> Check for updates
    3. Connect to the Internet with any APN (WiFi is recommended, however EDGE is fast enough for this). 4. Wait until the download finished. Phone will launch the dialog asking for update, just press Now. 5. Press Accept and Accept and the phone will be switched to Updating mode.
    6. It takes around 10 minutes to update, so be patient. After that, the phone will be rebooted automatically.
    7. Check by *#0000# again. Congrats! Your 5800 is now v21!
    As I can see, there are so many improvements and worth to update for example, better camera functionality and the phone operates faster than previous version.
    Best Settings for Video Playback on Nokia 5800 Xpress Music
    Nokia 5800 as the multimedia phones makes you able to enjoy watching the video and music with it. The question is, how’s to do to convert that videos and what are the best setting used for. I have convert many videos into my phone, I found that most video files can play with this phone such as mp4, 3gp, rmvb and flv files. But of them plays well but some are not. After many tries, I finally got the best results for Nokia video files. My video in 5800 was full screen, high quality and sounds very well. Here are my settings:
    Video Resolution: 480*320
    Video Bitrate: 768 kbps
    Audio Bitrate: 128 kbps
    Video Format: MPEG-4 (be sure not to use H264, as it’s not supported in the current firmware)
    Audio Format: MP3
    Audio Channels: 2 Channels
    You can apply these settings above in whatever application you used when converting videos into 5800. Then I am sure you will get full screen, high quality and flawless video in your phone.
    Settings for video playback on Nokia N97, N95, N85 and other Nokia phones.
    Nokia N97: Video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash Video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4; the video resolution is 360*640. Audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
    Nokia N96: video playback formats are 3GP, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, RealVideo, WMV 9; the video resolution is 240*320. Audio formats are AAC, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
    Nokia N95: video playback formats are MP4, 3GP. Video resolution is up to 640*480, audio format is AAC stereo.
    Nokia N85: video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, and WMV. The resolution is 240*320. The audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV and WMA etc.
    OK, I will not list all settings of Nokia phones. If you are interested you may get more relative information on Nokia official website.
    How to transfer video files into Nokia 5800
    I have download some videos from video website such as Youtube, Google video. But I can’t watch these videos in my phone. As these videos were flv files, Nokia 5800 can’t play such videos. I use Internet Tablet Video Converter to convert it, but it shows “Unsupported Video File Type”. Then I got to know some best video converter  that seems professional for Nokia phone, I free download its trial version and tried it, and it works very well. Below are what I do:
    Click Add button to add video files from your computer, set your videos according to the above settings and select Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 format for your video. Then just click convert button to start the conversion. After the conversion complete, you may watch these videos with Nokia 5800.
    Also you may get music from video in this way. But pay attention to the format. As Nokia 5800 support mp3 audio format, you should select “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)”.
    How to convert DVD files into Nokia 5800
    Obviously phones don’t have DVD drives, so to watch DVD on a phone you have to convert it into a video file on your PC then drag it into your phone. I also follow the above settings and convert DVD files into MPEG-4 video with Daniusoft DVD Ripper. the results are excellent.
    After insert your DVD into the DVD Drive click the Open DVD button to upload DVD files on to this program. Click Settings button to set your videos according to the above settings I listed. Click Profile drop list to select “Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 (*.mp4)” format for your Nokia video. Then click Convert button to start the conversion. In few minutes the whole process will completed.
    If you select audio format “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)” you may also get music from DVD.
    To transfer files into Nokia 5800
    In the above tutorial I have explain you how to convert Nokia videos from DVD and other video files. Then you need to transfer these videos into your phone.
    1. Make sure your computer and phone are both switched on. Also make sure your 5800 have a memory card in its slot.
    2. Plug the small end of the microUSB cable into the phone’s USB socket, which s under a plastic flap in the top left corner.
    3. Plug the larger end of the microUSB cable into a USB port on your computer.
    4. On your 5800 it should ask which mode you wish to use. Choose “Mass Storage”.
    5. Open the memory card window (probably called “Removable Disk E:”), drag your video files into the video folder.
    6. After finished transfer files, do not disconnect the cable yet. You should make it safe to disconnect the cable. You may do this by click a small icon in the bottom right corner of the screen that appears when the phone is connected.
    7. After you have made the device safe to remove, you can unplug the cable at both ends.
    Some useful tips to make the Nokia 5800's battery last as long as possible
    Sometimes you may have to stop talking with your friend or watching videos with your phone as low power of your battery. It is more inconvenient if you are in travel and have no alternative battery. Here are some tips to make your phone battery last as long as possible when using telephone.
    Do not switch the phone off. As switching a phone on uses far more battery power than simply leaving the phone on.
    Shut down unnecessary applications.
    Turn down the 5800’s screen brightness to the lowest acceptable level.
    Switch off your 5800’s screen when not in use.
    Use headphones instead of speakers when listening to music or watching movies.
    Avoid using the camera flash unnecessarily.
    Use 2G instead of 3G.
    Switch off Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi.'
    Ok, I have typed out all my thoughts about Nokia 5800 here. Hope my tutorial is helpful to you. And all the other Nokia 5800 tutorials and useful how-to information should come here! It is welcome

    Try backing up ur texts using phone's inbuilt file manager.it may work..

  • Interesting difference between books and tutorials

    I started coding in Java about four years ago. When I started I learned from a book (that I no longer have), I think it was "Sam's Teach Yourself Java in 24 Hours". I was just a kid then and I became fairly proficient in all of the basic requirements and such. Now, four years later, I am looking into getting back to Java when I can find the time, and possibly getting a certification. Instead of the book, I now use the online tutorials and API docs. Something I noticed about the tutorials is that they use coding methods that I never saw in the book. For instance from this tutorial on using the SpringLayout, the code follows this syntax:
    import /*neccessary items*/
    public class SpringDemo1 {
         * Create the GUI and show it.  For thread safety,
         * this method should be invoked from the                  <----I didn't add this. Guessing it has something
         * event-dispatching thread.                                    to do with preventing the thread from crashing...?
        private static void createAndShowGUI() {
            //Create and set up the window.
            JFrame frame = new JFrame("SpringDemo1");
            frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            //SpringLayout code here....
            frame.pack();
            frame.setVisible(true);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
                public void run() {
                    createAndShowGUI();
    }whereas, when I learned from the book, I always did this and I still do:
    import /*neccessary items*/
    public class myClass extends JFrame {
        public myClass() {
            //set up GUI here
        public static void main(String args[]) {
            myClass mc = new myClass();
    }If I am going to get my certification, I don't want to be using practices that could cause a program to crash and get someone angry at me. If I am doing something wrong, please chew me out. It's better than losing a job...

    The book is old-fashioned, that's all. Neither version of the code is so bad that it will crash and you will lose your job and become a drug addict accosting people on the street for money.
    The "extends JFrame" version was the usual way to write things back in the early days of Java. And then people started thinking more about object orientation, and noticed that there was nothing in most Swing programs which created a modified JFrame. They simply used the features of a JFrame to get their work done.
    So under the flag of "Prefer composition to inheritance", the OO people rewrote the standard Swing application to do that. And so they should... Java is an object-oriented language, after all, so why not do things right? Let's not extend JFrame (inheritance) if we can just create one and use it (composition).
    Of course they couldn't go back and change all the paper books and all the thousands of programs that people had already written in the old way, but they could change the tutorials. And they did.
    So my suggestion would be to follow the style shown in that tutorial. You won't lose your job over it. In fact being able to explain why you did it might even improve your status at your job.

  • How do you Combine separate LMS Tutorials into one Long

    I have created a 55 minute tutorial with audio. It is 6
    captivate projects (~400 slides). I have created a stand alone
    package so the user can view the entirety and jump to each chapter
    using the menu in the skin. I have published the same taking out
    the menu in the skin as separate LMS tutorials. Up to now everyone
    has been happy to add each project as a chapter to their LMS
    system. One of my clients wants the class to be one long tutorial
    instead of the separate modules, much like the standalone version,
    but does not want to install that on each users machine. How do you
    do that? Given the limits of the software, I cannot just make it,
    one Captivate project. I tried linking the project and having all
    the files in one directory but that doesn't work. There must some
    sort of way to change the html or xml needed to run in the LMS, but
    I'm not sure where to begin.

    Short of some very fancy Javascript hacking, you cannot make
    separate projects appear as one long continuous project to an LMS.
    Even with some Javascript modifications, the fundamental
    reporting process is not designed to work that way so there's no
    guarantee you'll ever get it to work.
    The idea would be to link one project to the next using daisy
    chaining while suppressing the API.LMSFinish("") command (or
    whatever one tells the LMS that the user reached the end of the
    content) until the end of the last project is reached. It gets much
    more complicated if you're also wanting to track scores of
    individual interactions in each file.
    If you've got some Javascript skills, or just want to try,
    you can edit the scorm_support.js file in:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
    3\Templates\Publish\SCORM_supportxxxx
    where xxxx is the version of SCORM you're publishing to.
    If you're using another form of reporting, then the various
    other publishing templates can be found one level up in the Publish
    folder.
    The hard part will be figuring out which command Captivate is
    sending to the LMS (via the communication functions in
    scorm_support.js) that tells the LMS the user has completed the
    content. You then need to add logic that only passes on that
    command if it's coming from the last file.
    Do be sure to make a backup before editing any of the default
    files. By making changes in the Captivate install directory, you're
    changing how all files get published. You want to be able to go
    back to the default behavior once your special functionality is
    either working correctly or you decide it can't be done.
    Best of luck,
    John

  • How can I re-play the tutorials in iwork?

    I am new to Apple and am enjoying the experience thus far. My only unanswered question is how can I re-play the tutorials that popped up the very first time I opened an application? i.e. The first time I opened "Keynote" a window opened that gave me the opportunity to see some video highlights, I chose not to watch thinking I would get to it later. However, now when I click on the "keynote" icon it takes me directly to the application - no video tutorials offered. This is true of all the applications in iwork. I have found tutorials on-line but can I still get them on my computer?
    Thanks

    The only tutorial videos are online -- if you go to the Help menu and choose "Video Tutorials", that will take you to the appropriate section of the Apple site (and the "Welcome to Keynote" item will give you that window that popped up the first time you ran Keynote).
    If you want a basic overview of iWork (and a very nice demonstration of what Keynote can do), then the Help item "iWork Tour" is highly recommended.

  • How can I re-play the tutorials on my imac

    You might want to ask someone in the Keynote forum. It may be in one of Keynote's support documents in your Documents or Library folders, or it may be inside the package contents of the Keynote application itself. Since I don't have the most recent Keynote, I can't say I'd know.

  • Last year I would watch tutorials on my iPad and using my Apple TV view them on my tv. Since maverick I can't airdrop from my pad to my Apple TV ? I can't even watch purchased tutorials through my tv and would like to know if there was a way to get it bac

    Way can't i do this now? Last year I would turn into creativeLive and watch tutorials on my tv using my Apple TV screening from my iPad . This was great. And allowed me to move around while learning. After Maverick that service disappear, I went into the apple store where I lived and they thought it was creativeLive not brought casting. But I have tutorials I have purchased that should be able to screen aren't showing up either. As this is important to me was wondering if there's something I can do to get it back before I go blind trying to study on the pad? Any help would be appreciated I bought the Apple TV precisely for this purpose, any one know why they changed a very helpful service?

    Are it's amazing what going to the apple classes can do for you, lol the problem was air play has turned off no doubt when the upgrades were done, but thanks to the training apple gave me I was able to reason the problem out yah! I love my apple.

  • I want to make a copy of slide show create from my own photographs and with a an audio track behind them. I have carefully followed the iDVD tutorials and burnt the result to a disc but image quality is very poor. What is wrong?

    I want to make a DVD of a slide-show with an audio track behind the photographs. I have carefully followed the iDVD video tutorials but the result is far from satisfactory. The quality of the images on the resulting DVD are blurred and indistict although the original photographs are of a very high quality. Where am I going wrong? Would I have better results from a different program than the inbuilt iDVD and if so so what programs have others found to be better? I should be grateful for some expert guidance.

    Hey Falcopebo,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Looks like you have image quality issues when using iDVD to burn.
    iDVD 7.0: Burned DVD has interlacing, pixelation, or image quality issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4078
    A standard DVD made by iDVD is made to the standard DVD resolution of 720 X 480, which is smaller than most HDTVs and monitors. When expanded to fit the entire screen or monitor, the image will distort slightly due to upscaling to fit the screen or monitor.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • Can't play VDO tutorials of Apple's web sites

    I'm using Mac mini with Mac OS X 10.7.1 in school's proxy server. The port of proxy is 8080.
    My problem is my mac can not play VDO tutorials of Apple's web sites,http://www.apple.com/iwork/tutorials/#pages-hero (and other VDO of Apple).
    Every attempt to play these VDO, there is a authorization pop-up asking for username and password of the proxy server. There is no VDO after filling it but soon another authorization pop-up again.
    I called Apple technical support. He asked me go through Youtube and movie download from iTunes. All of those were OK. He concluded that the only problem is VDO streaming and send my case to his superior (senior advisor). Apple's senior advisor said that "probably" there is a problem with the setting of the server. The technical support team admitted that they are not familiar with networking.
    I asked our IT, he suspected that my problems came from Mac software. He said that Windows PC use the same proxy port to view those VDO tutorials but Mac software change the port of VDO streaming from 8080 to 80 (they checked it). This is the first problem. So every attempt to play that VDO requires new authorization with user name and password. The second problem, Mac software would not accept the username and password that required by proxy server for the new port.  So, no matter how often I filled up username and password it won't work.
    Help, please.

    I was having problems opening some downloads (using VUZE) using quicktime
    Are you referring to "Vuze" the "torrent" app? If so, then what was the source and compression formats for the files you downloaded? While I would expect Apple files directly downloaded from the Apple site to be compatible with the QT player, files posted by other sources could be in any compression format and would either trigger the message you got, not play, or not even load to the player. The normal work flow in such situations is to determine what compression formats were used to encode the downloaded file and then install the same components if available for your system--not arbitrarily download QT components which have not useful function or which may create component conflicts.
    Neither of which could I also get to open my downloads, so I deleted the file.
    What file did you delete--the downloaded installer, the installed component, the QT Player, the video file you downloaded, or something else?
    Now I can not play any of the videos on the Apple website.
    How are you trying to view them? In a browser? Opening the file as a URL in the QT Player? As a downloaded file?
    Quicktime is the diverted program but I have no idea what to do from here. Can anyone please please help me with this.
    Have no idea what you are talking about here. Is this a setting in the Vuze software? If so, you need to go the Vuze forum to get more information.
    I should add, I have sound when I play the tutorials. just no visual, and I get no message to download QT either.
    Once again, how are you viewing the video? What compression formats are involved? If using the QT Player, what does the "Inspector" window or Finder "Info" window say about the file?

  • Getting the classic "Macintosh Basics" tutorials to run in OSX (and Linux?)

    Good afternoon folks,
    I remember WAY back in the early days that there were really good basic tutorial programs that game with your new macintosh to teach you the basics. If my memory is correct, I THINK my favourite was the earliest one, "Mouse Basics". All I remember is that, as a kid, the first tutorial I had on a Mac was this silly little fun game to teach how to use a mouse, how to click, how to drag, etc. I vaguely remember a fishbowl was involved somehow, and there was another part where you dragged a piece of paper from a desk into a garbage can.
    Heck, I think there may have been one for the pre-Mac Apples that was also really good.
    Today, I have two uses for these programs, and I want to figure out how to get them to work on modern hardware.
    1) My dad, believing the hype about OSX being the "easiest computer in the world to use" went and bought himself a really expensive iMac, thinking it would do EVERYTHING for him. Remember the scene from Star Trek IV where Scotty sits in front of the Mac Plus and says, "computer," into the mouse. That's pretty much the mindspace where my dad's coming from. Plus, my mom's even worse, and is having a really hard time grasping the concept of using a mouse. They want me get Skype working on their computer, but when I tried to help them out I discovered just how much they need to learn before they get CLOSE to the point where they can use Skype comfortably.
    But, because all this stuff is so automatic for me, because I've been using computers since around 1986 when I got my first C=64, I cannot figure out how to verbalize these concepts into words in a way they can understand. Trying to explain to them the concept of the "desktop" as a metaphor is really hard. To them, a computer is a machine that does something FOR you, like a toaster. To me a computer is a virtual "space" that I "enter" in order to do things for myself.
    For example, they might ask something like, "how do I get the computer to do x?" And I would answer, "this is how YOU do x." Or, to put it another way, they might unconsciously think to themselves, "I want the computer to give me the information I ask for," while I would unconsciously think ,"I want to go into the file system and find the information that's stored there." That's why it's called the "Finder" after all, right? It's a philosophical paradigm shift they just can't seem to make. So, they don't want me to teach them how to use Skype. They want me to teach Skype how to work for them! Somehow I cannot explain to them that an iMac is not a HAL 9000...
    So, I want to use these very old basic tutorial programs on OSX as a way to get my parents some practice on the very very very basic skills needed to use a computer. How to click. How to drag. The concept of the "desktop". Etc.
    Anybody have any simple tricks I can try? I suppose I could download QEMU for OSX and then install System 7 on their iMac, but it seems to me that there MUST be a simpler solution.
    2) I'm trying to develop a remastered **** Small Linux livecd for my very young nieces and nephews to help introduce them to computers. The idea is to prevent my silly siblings from wasting their money on those stupid pink plastic "laptops" you can buy at Toys R Us. Instead, they'd simply take their old laptop that they don't use anymore and just boot it up with the DSL livecd. On the cd will be all sorts of age-appropriate games, educational software, and a kid-oriented internet browser (I'm trying to get zacbrowser to run under WINE, so far without any luck.)
    There would be two users built-in to the livecd. If you boot it without using a password you get "kid mode" with a really friendly desktop with large cartoony icons with all the programs for the kid. If you boot it with the preconfigured password you'd get "parent mode" allowing access to preferences, utilities, and the myDSL package installation system.
    Along with giving new life to my brother-in-laws' old laptops, they could also take the livecd with them when they're visiting other folk. Instead of dumping the kids in front of the tv, they can just pop the livecd in the family's computer and the kids can plug away without the ability to touch anything stored on the harddrive.
    Think of it as SugarOS for really old hardware.
    As you've probably guessed by now, I want to include these old Mac tutorials with the CD, and again I'm trying to figure out the best way to get them to run under Linux. Again, I could try running System 7 under QEMU, but I'd really like to find a better way. Is there such a thing as "WINE for classic macs"?
    In the unlikely event that anybody has a way to modify these old programs to run natively under OSX (or Linux), that would be AWESOME!!!
    Or if anybody knows of any modern substitutes to the classic Mac Basics tutorials, that would also be cool (but not nearly as cool as a way to run the original programs. I really really liked the way those suckers did the job.)
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Couple of thoughts...
    You could get/use SheepShaver to actually run Classic Apps on Intel Macs.
    For "Kid Mode" you could put other's Home folders on USB Sticks big enough.

  • Being brand new to FCX I want to purchase Motion5 so as I am able to add a motion template to the start of a video. Can someone please explain in simple terms how I go about this. Looked at tutorials

    Being brand new to FCPX and Motion 5 I want to use a motions template I have bought for a wedding DVD I have shot, so as to place the introductory template at the start of my film. I have looked at tutorials and cant seem to see anything that tells me simply how to achieve this. Do I edit my film as normal in FCPX and then transfer to Motion to add the motion template or visa versa ?? I need a simple answer as I am far from an expert. Can anyone help please.

    what do you mean by 'motion template'?
    as you notice on launch of M5, it offers you different project types.
    when you select 'title', the minute you save it, it's avail on next launch of FCPX in the title-browser.
    same with effects.
    if you like to use M5 for producing a short segment (eg, I created my 'openers' with it, some animation of our soccer-team's logo, the first 4sec in this video), you simply export the final project as a Quicktime-file and add it to some Event in FCPX for future use ...

  • Looking for Orchestral music tutorials

    I am a starting Logic 8 express user and compose mainly classical orchestral music. Are there video tutorials that teach especially orchestral editing? I really would like to learn how to make a good recording of my music, professional spaced etc.

    I don't know of any orchestral editing videos, but may I suggest that you take a look at numerous and very helpful Logic videos on YouTube? This guy knows what he's talking about and has a good sense of humor. There's lots to learn about Logic here.
    Also, I don't think you need this, but here is a free online Principles of Orchestration course. Perhaps other people checking this thread might find this useful.
