  • Tuxedo 12c - Do mainframe adapters support two-phase commit?

With Oracle Tuxedo 12c, do the Tuxedo mainframe adapters support two-phase commit?  I see there is support for two-phase commit with Tuxedo COBRA, for relational databases.  My customer has a requirement to integrate with their mainframe systems and require two-phase commit (for rollback functionality) with the Tuxedo mainframe adapters.

    Hi,
The Tuxedo Mainframe Adapter for SNA supports two phase commit protocol, or in IBM mainframe parlance syncpoint level 2.

  • Is Tuxedo supported on current versions of OpenVMS?

A colleague is working with Tuxedo and is talking about moving to OpenVMS 8.2 either on Alpha or Itanium.
Is Tuxedo supported on either of these platforms? Presumably it would be Tux 6.5 since that is what has been running on VMS for years and years.
    Thank you for the information.

    Bob,
The BEA Product Retirement calendar is available at
    http://support.bea.com/application?namespace=metrics&origin=esupport_portlet.jsp&event=wildcard.metrics&portletname=ProductNewsAndEOLUpdates&ret_url=product_news%2FProduct_Retirement_Calendar.xls ,
the BEA Product Retirement Policy is available at
    http://support.bea.com/product_news/Product_Retirement_Policy.doc ,
and the BEA Product Retirement FAQ is available at
    http://support.bea.com/product_news/Product_Retirement_FAQ_Customers.doc .
The product retirement policy states that
a.. Generally Available Support for Tuxedo and WebLogic Enterprise is
offered for six years after a Major product release (including a 2 year
    Maturity phase)
b.. Extended Support is offered at an additional cost for two years
c.. Sustaining Support is offered at an additional cost in perpetuity
For Tuxedo 9.1, released during 2006, Generally Available support will be
available through 2012 with extended support available through 2014. We are
currently working on a new major release of Tuxedo, and GA and Extended
Support for that release will be available for 6 years and 8 years after its
    release date.
For VMS, the issue is that it is only suported on Tuxedo 6.5, and not on
newer releases of Tuxedo. As with any other operating system or product,
support for VMS is a business issue and depends in part on the level of
customer interest in this product. If you're interested in VMS, please let
support and your account executive know (although I'm fairly sure that
    you've already let them know.)
    Best regards,
    Ed

  • Tuxedo with Oracle-RAC

    Tuxedo -Oracle RAC ,
We are planning to upgrade the Tuxedo Environmet to o Support Oracle-RAC , with Single Database server with Two Instances .
***At the moment we have ceratin Tuxedo Services ( part of a transaction ) to connect Database , which is used by more than One Application ie The connection Services to the Databse is COMMON.***
Eg: we have service named DBSERVICE1 , which is connecting to a datbases , which also part of a Transaction , This DBSERVICE1 is used by more than one channels ( ATM/internet banking , phone banking etc )
we have more than one service like DBSERVICE1
With this architecture how we can effectively achieve Tuxedo -Oracle RAC High Availability.
Is is possible to specify in the Tuxedo Configuration  like this " if the instance1 is down , use the Instance2"?+
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Nadeer,
In Oracle RAC 10g a single global transaction that spans more than one RAC instance, yet connected to a single database will not work, i.e., you may not get transactional integrity. To solve this problem, Tuxedo introduced RAC support by way of the TUXRACGROUPS environment variable. This environment variable tells Tuxedo about the RAC configuration, i.e., which RAC instances are connected to which RAC databases. Actually it tells Tuxedo which groups of Tuxedo servers can safely participate together in a single global transaction. Using that environment variable, Tuxedo will alter its request routing algorithm so that once a transaction is started, all subsequent service requests that are part of that transaction will only be routed to servers in Tuxedo groups that can safely participate in the transaction. So if we use a simple example where there are two RAC instances R1 and R2 connected to a single database D1 and we have Tuxedo groups G1, G2, G3, and G4, where the openinfo string for G1 and G3 connect to R1 and G2 and G4 connect to R2. If a server in G1 starts a transaction, or is called by a client that has started a transaction (assuming TUXRACGROUPS has been defined properly), Tuxedo will only route all subsequent requests that are part of that transaction to servers in G1 or G3. Thus Tuxedo will prevent a transaction from ever spanning 2 or more RAC instances connected to the same database.
Again, I encourage you to read the documentation for RAC support in Tuxedo as it gives several examples and describes in detail how to define TUXRACGROUPS.
Also note that this entire problem essentially goes away in Oracle RAC 11g.

  • How much of Tuxedo is in WL7

Somewhat general of a question, but something I've never completely
understood is how much of Tuxedo is in WL7 (eg does the WL JTA implement
Tuxedo8 directly or are the libraries a light version of Tuxedo)?
Thanks a lot for any information,
              Paul

    Paul,
How many lines of Tuxedo code? None. The JTA subsystem is a native java
              implementation.
How many man-years of experience from the team that implemented the Tuxedo TM
and supported it in some (most?) of the worlds biggest open systems deployments
went into its design and implementation? Lots!

    Hi,
The Tuxedo service has to subscribe some topic on external JMS and wait
for the response, it acts like a client. response timeout is so less
that i don't have to wait more then 3-4 seconds. Is it good practice to
    do inside the Tuxedo service?

    Hi,
Tuxedo doesn't support direct access to JMS queues. Typically Tuxedo applications will use the WebLogic Tuxedo Connector component of WebLogic Server to bridge JMS queues and Tuxedo /Q queues. Then the Tuxedo application simply interacts with the /Q queues.
How were you planning on communicating with JMS from your Tuxedo server?

PHP with the OCI8 extension using "DRCP" connection pooling will handle many, many users. We bench-marked 20,000 concurrent users on a commodity machine: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/php/whatsnew/php-scalability-ha-twp-128842.pdf
Instead of WAMP you might want something like Zend Server, which has comes in unsupported (aka free) & supported flavors (disclaimer: Zend is a partner of Oracle): http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/php/zend-server-096314.html
You can install PHP on iAS: e.g https://blogs.oracle.com/opal/entry/building_php_53_with_oracle_ht
If you need extreme scalability you could use Oracle Tuxedo, which has support for PHP (and Python & Ruby): http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/tuxedo/tuxedo-dynamic-langs-twp-401471.pdf
There are too many factors to declare outright that one language is faster than another. It would depend on factors like whether you use an application framework, how efficiently you tune caches etc.
Overall, your choice should be based on the in-house skill set you have.
Whatever you choose, I'd recommend putting most business logic (especially numeric and date calculations) in PL/SQL procedures. This will give you flexibility to call that logic from any language or service in the future. You can also then keep any web or mobile UI lightweight and fast.

Can I take a guess at this one. 6 requests with a 10" sleep means
one minute. The 7th fails. Are you sure there is no timeout
parameter somewhere in your ubbconfig (or in the defaults)
that makes the request of your 7th client time out ? Check the
Tuxedo return code of the client.
Because, if the client's tpcall times out, the client probably
stops and its message queue disappears, resulting in the error
message. This is exactly what is meant by "client who exits
    before the request is satisfied".

Then I started 7 simpcl native clients in parallel from script

    Hi,
I think you are referring to the documentation for error LIBTUX_CAT:1286, which suggests tuning the kernel parameters as a more general solution. The explanation for LIBTUX_CAT:669 is more specific (earlier messages in the ULOG usually give a more specific reason for the problem):
+669 ERROR: Message operation failed because of the invalid message queue identifier+
    Description
msgsnd to a queue failed because of invalid message queue identifier. This can also occur if a request is made by a client who exits before the request is satisfied. The cleanup after the client exits removes the message queue.
    Action
Check the message queue identifier in msgsnd(). The message may be corrupted. Contact your ORACLE TUXEDO system Technical Support.
Increasing the kernel parameters will not help in this case, as the problem is due to the queue having been removed, which happens when the client program terminates, and it is quite likely that there will be no messages in the ULOG indicating what happened. You will need to follow the suggestions made earlier in this forum thread and find out what happened to the client.
    Regards,
    Malcolm.

  • End of life for 8.0.5

Does anyone know if and when there is 'end-of-life' for version 8.0.5 on HPUx?
I need to educate myself and my client?

    Robert,
The real EOL date of Tuxedo 8.1 is 2-28-2009, and the extended support is 2-28-2011, as you saw at http://support.bea.com/product_news/Product_Retirement_Calendar.xls.
12-31-2013 you saw at http://e-docs.bea.com/tuxedo/tux81/install/inspds.htm#1609465 is the EOL date of HP-UX 11.11PA-RISC posted by HP, you can saw the header of that column. As we mentioned at http://e-docs.bea.com/tuxedo/tux81/install/inspds.htm#1369557, if one OS is EOLed by the OS vendor at some date earlier than EOL date of that Tuxedo release, BEA support to Tuxedo on that release will be discontinued immediately. That's purpose we list OS EOL date, just for reference, but it is subject to change due to policy change of OS vendors.
    /Bruce
