Tv and you view box

Hi do not want to appear stupid but I now have the you view box and infinity hub set up, how can i adjust the volume as it is on 93 at the moment and still quite low!!
Also how can I switch back to my tv?  when I try it says no signal but the aerial lead that goes to the aerial and into the you view box and the HDMI cable goes to the tv and the you view box! so why cant i get back to the tv with my sony tv remote control?  rather confused as when I had my dvd recorder set up with the tv on the AV1 channel I could get back to my tv okay!!  any help with the above would be great.!!

Hold the AD button (bottom left of the YouView remote) and press the volume up until it's at 100%, then you need to turn the sound up on your TV to the desired volume.

You need to connect an aerial lead from the OUT on the YouView box to the IN on the TV and also set RT loop to 'on' in the YouView box settings menu.

  • BT wired / wireless connections - You View box and...

We have connected the BT Home Hub 4 to the You View box (using the 10 metre ethernet cable as a temporary measure until the electrician moves the power socket and we can use the powerline adaptors instead).  We are using an HDMI cable to connect the You View box to the Panasonic Viera Smart TV.
When the You View box is recording two other programmes, to watch something via the internet on the smart tv, we would previously have used a wireless signal to the tv, but it does not seem to work.
The laptop works fine wirelessly in the same room, so the router must be producing a wireless signal, but the TV is seemingly unable to find the network (wirelessly or wired) while the ethernet cable is plugged into the You View box.
Does this mean the only option to watch internet only programmes on the tv is to disconnect the ethernet cable from the You View box and connect it to the tv?  Or if we disconnect the ethernet cable from the router, would the tv then pick up the wireless signal?  It would be better to not have to disconnect anything....
    Please advise, thanks.

SOLVED - we had to do a factory reset on the tv, to get it to link to the new BT home hub.... it was linked to our previous router from the previous ISP.,.

  • Bt you view box keeps cycling start up screens and...

My new by you view box goes from by waking up to you view nearly ready and then back to be waking up. Just done a factory reset and still can't get passed you view nearly ready screen??

The Humax YouView box is the the most unreliable piece of junk it has ever been my misfortune to have set eyes on. It started off fine and I thought it was a great little machine, but then the startup problems began, and now it can take ages for it to start, if it does at all. I have rebooted it over the course of three hours tonight and it will still not kick in. It begins to load and then the screen turns black and I have to try again. Sometimes it will stay on the "almost ready" screen for as long as you care to leave it, other times it just cuts out after a few seconds, other times it will load and run for a few minutes before cutting out again, and amazingly, some times it will actually work......I have had a black screen with sound, without sound, pink screen, green screen, you name it.
I have tried different cables, everything I could think of to no avail. I even did a factory reset, losing all the programmes I wanted to keep or had still to watch but still the problem remains. It will still record programmes I have set but I can't get it to work long enough to watch them. I am just about to call it a day and ask them to come and collect it. Do I want a replacement? I think not, i'd rather just consign it to the dustbin and buy a freeview recorder.

  • You View Box - keeps freezing and stops loading

I have had You View for nearly a year now with no problems.
Unfortunately over the last few weeks my You View box keeps freezing and becomes unresponsive.
The Power Up button doesn't respond by remote or by touch and the only way I can get a response from it is to turn everything off at the wall and on again.
The box is regularly updated and on the latest version. I have also performed a Software reset as requested by BT but still the same problems.
Now I can't even get You View to load, just keeps saying "Nearly ready" on the screen.
I have booked an engineer to come round and assess the situation. Apparently if it is not BT's fault I will be charged over £100?
Has anyone else had these problems? Or know of any solutions? Is this a software glitch of BT's?

Do you mean the "Reset Data" option from within the BT Player?
You could try a "factory reset, keep recordings" by following this guide:
    http://videos.youview.com/support/maintenance_mode.pdf
Just make sure to make a note of your future scheduled recordings as you will need to re-add them afterwards.

  • You view box and no infinity in my area - help!

    Hi.
I started a youview contract in november 2012, paying the required fees in the process (£49 + £5 per month).  I stay in an area where there is no infinity coverage but I would lke to take advantage of the "free" BT Sport offer.
Called today to see what the best way of going about this was and after 20 mins on hold was told that I could have a box swap but I would need to pay another £49.
Surely as an ongoing broadband and you view subscriber there is something that can be done to allow me to get this box swap  without paying another fee 9 months after I paid the previous one.  The advertising for this offer is slightly misleading in my view.
Comments, thoughts and solutions are most welcome!
    Bruce

    Hi
I also got my youview box last October and have just gone through the same procedure as you and was offered a box swap at £49 but I do not think the Vision+ box has all the features that the youview box has.
I eventually settled for the option to get Sport on my PC until Infinity comes to our area which is scheduled for Dec 2013 but knowing BT will probably be sometime in the distant future.
Ps I have read other posts where people have got a box swap for free.

  • Swapping my Vision Box for You View Box

i have taken up the free offer of swapping my Vision Box for a you view box. Can anyone let me know what make of box I will get - Is it the Humax?
Any other tips people could offer me, hope I have made the right decision.

All the BT YouView boxes are Humax boxes. There are two variants, the old DTR-T1000 (H3) box and the newer DTR-T2100 (G4) box.
My guess is that if you have paid nothing you will get the older T1000 box. These aren't anywhere near as responsive as the newer boxes.

  • Very happy with the new You View Box

I have just upgraded from a black BT Vision Box to the new BT You View box and I have to say I am very impressed so far. Not only is the new box very small and neat, but the picture and functionality that I have tested to date has been faultless. I am connection to Broadband using Power Adapters and they seem absolutly fine. I live in a small village where on a good day with the wind in the right direction I get 2.4 Mbs. It dropped below 2 Mbs last night but BBC i lPlayer apart from 2 short buffers during an hours playing was fine. I know BT don't promote the use of Power Adapters with You View, as without doubt they are slower than a direct ethernet connection, but I have had no problem at all using them.
In short, well done to Humax/BT for providing what for me so far is an excellent product.

I have to agree with you. We got the G4 last week and to date (touch wood) there were no problems with our packages, switching over or any other problems. It was really smooth and the G4 box is fast quick and works really well. A good bit of kit that the family really like.

  • Humax You View Box

I have the black You View Box and I would like to know if it has an RF modulator.  If not does anyone know what RF loop through means and what it does? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It doesn't. Loop just means you'll still be able to watch Freeview directly on your TV as well as via the YouView box. A modulator would output the YouView box on an analogue frequency so it could be tuned in

  • Using you view box at another address.

If I take my you view box to a holiday cottage will I still be able to use it to view tv. The place I'm going to has a tv but only with basic free view. The cottage has broadband and an aerial.

ok thanks for the help...sounds good enough to me. This is assuming the internets working i suppose as the location is a bit wild and tends to drop coneection in high winds....would that only effect catch up tv though/

  • Cant get my BT Sport (or new You View Box)

I have fibre to the Premises and for the last few months I have been trying to claim my free BT Sport.
I tick the box for my Phone Number (which I have had for 18 years at this address) and added my postcode but after a while i get the following mesage.
Sorry, a technical error has occurred. Please contact us on 0800 800 150 and select the billing department to continue with this order.
After previous experiences The last thing I want to do is have a long conversation with India.
Im now having a similar problem upgrading to my free You View Box following the email recieved yesterday telling me the orriginal BT Vision box service will end in June.
Is there a number in the UK for my problems.
    Brian

    Yes
0800 800 150. It depends what options you want whether you go through to India.
Sorting out BT sport or  a new Youview box should not involve being transferred to India. Speaking to a UK number does not guarantee speaking to a born and bred cockney though.

  • NO SOUND ON YOU VIEW BOX

BT are sending an engineer out on Saturday as there is no sound on my you view box, said it could be the HDMI port on the you view box but that i will be charged if it is my own tv, how can I tell that I am not an engineer, if I use the scart from my tv to the you view box the sound works though I have to turn it up to 50 to get a clear sound! but cannot use the scart for BT sport apparently.
My tv is a Sony KDL with one HDMI port which was purchased from Amazon at the end of April this year, only had the youview box since end of May and the HDMI port has been used since then.
Any help would be greatly appreciated in case I need to cancel the appt tomorrow before 2pm - dont want charging.
    Many thanks

    From the Youview community forums
    https://community.youview.com/youview/topics/no-sound-on-iplayer-after-update-humax-stb
one issue identified was the absence of sound if no aerial was connected.
    The Youview rep posted:
We are aware of an issue affecting the HTML based players where if an aerial is not connected then audio may be absent on content playback.
This doesn't happen in every circumstance but we are working on a fix which will be made available with a future release which will fix this.
So do you have an aerial connected to your Youview box ?

  • Bt you view box problems

So frustrated as we have had a you view+ box for nearly a year and in the last few weeks it has been freezing, unable to start and snowy pictures. I managed to get through to bt and was told our box hadn't been updating on the server and I needed to do a update manually. I agreed to this as obviously wanted to get the box working again. I was told I would be doing a factory reset. I did query the necessity of a reset and asked about everything we had recorded to which I was told we would lose it all. Really disappointed by this as thought that I was paying to be able to record and watch when I like!
I asked how often my box should be updating on the server and how often I am likely to have to do a manual factory reset if it doesn't update its own server and told it would be every 3-5 months.
I went ahead with the manual reset with the phone operator talking me through the process and at the end the box was working again.
However before the week was over it started freezing again. I had already been advised by the phone operator I could text bt instead of calling as they would have all my history stored and be able to respond better than calling the centre again to explain the whole story. I did text and received a lengthy text offering me another reset to do.....which doesn't work either.
Completely unhappy with this and feeling glad my contract is nearly over so I can look around for another deal with better service as feel I have been ripped off paying to use a recording facility that I have to wipe clear every few months because my box can't update itself!!
I can't even write on here what my husband said when he discovered he lost all his stuff he had been looking forward to catching up on in the winter months.

Hi foxy46 - welcome to theforum.
    Worth having a read of
    https://community.youview.com/youview/topics/top_tip_soft_reset_reboot_power_cycling_maintenance_mod...
Generally the factory reset is the most drastic fix attempt. A factory reset will reset the box to a known  state  so that if it continues to fail afterwards it is possible that it could be a box component failure. A second attempt at a reset is probably a reasonable support approach - thereafter if the problem persists you can reasonably expect the support unit to progress to the next stage which might include an engineer visit and box replacement.

  • You view box switches on randomly

Hi apologies if this has been raised before our You View box keeps randomly switching itself in, which causes the TV to come on, strangely mainly in the middle of the night, but it has gappened during the day as well. Have switched it off for a while and back on so its had a reset. Trying to avoid a full factory reset as have lots if programmes recorded still to watch. Can anyone help? Many thanks

Hi Lou75... Welcome to the forum.
I did experience similar situation with the older BT youview box last summer. It wasn't my primary Youview box so I only used in occasionally. Not really any happy ending .... The box just became more and more unreliable .... Ie appeared to have difficulty in coming out of standby , missing recordings when in standby etc....and when I reconnected it a couple of months ago to update to the latest software it failed to update reporting what seem fairly terminal errors.
You could try a maintenence mode reset .. Keeping recordings option.

  • You view box software reloads

i have spent literally hours on the phone or online chat to BT over the last few weeks.  BT seem very unwilling to send an engineer as they seem to think it is OK to ask me to do a factory reset every time I want to watch the TV.  we don't watch it often but when we watch it we want it to come on straight away.  recently we have had to wait for 20 or 30 minutes for it to come on - the box says "please wait" - and then it may not come on at all or go off again.  today I have been trying to switch on since 1130 for the tennis.  it has just come on after another factory reset and it is now 1340.  i have been on to BT trying sifferent things for ages and it's such a waste of time.
i have an enginner coming tomorrow but have no confidence that a repair or new box will improve matters.  am i alone or is this a common situation for infrequent TV viewers?
also are there any tips to making the process of switching on easier?

Well it shouldn't be necessary to perform regular factory resets -  so if the root cause is the Youview box then a replacement shouldn't exhibit the same problems and you will get normal startup times.
