Audio cable help for the new AppleTV.
Currently I have an original AppleTV with audio RCA plugs to mini plug into my BOSE speakers.
The 2nd Gen AppleTv has a Toslink input. I've looked at cables of Toslink to optical mini. Will this cable work? The optical mini part I'm not sure of what it is.
Thanks so much. The monitor I use doesn't have speakers.
This is the cable I see at Amazon

If I understand your question correctly, you want to connect your Apple TV2 to your Bose system using a mini plug.
You will need an optical to digital coax RCA converter (find it on Ebay about $15), then you can connect your mini cable. Here is a link to one I recently bought on Ebay: http://fwd4.me/nrQ

  • Mid 2011 mbp i7 with a SSD has problems, including grey screen/blue screen/beeping/freezing when I stream live video (i.e. watch espn or time warner cable) Help? Ideas?

Recently my Macbook Pro (June 2011, i7, 8gb RAM, 512gb SSD, AMD Radeon 6750, Mountain Lion - since July - currently 10.8.2) has been presenting me with an array of problems, usually initiated when I am streaming live video. I was streaming Time Warner Cable on 12/9 and it gave me what looked like the blue screen of death.  It started up after about five attempts that time. The other day, after about a week of not using the computer, it wouldn't boot past the grey screen. I (option) started it and it gave me two boot choices, the regular HD and a "10.8 restore" option.  The HD gave me the grey screen and the restore option gave me the dark blue screen. I reset PRAM and that didn't work.  After a force (x) start it worked.  Today, I was using "Watch ESPN" and the screen froze and the computer did some kind of repeating RAM beep or something.  I rebooted and it started up fine.  I'm not watching any videos anymore, but this is a problem since the primary purpose for my mbp is video editing. I'm still under AppleCare but I find more solid answers in the forums or at least better questions for the AppleCare people.
Anybody have similar experiences, or a solid idea of what the heck has happened to my machine?

I'm not really sure what method that person was talking about. I just read he had a successful install so I posted it.
    But I'll hazard a guess
    1. copy your entire drive to a backup drive
    2. boot into that drive and test it out - make sure its a flawless backup, it works, and the hard drive has no problems
    3. eject that drive, disconnect it and reboot into the leopard install dvd
    4. erase your main hard drive using disc utilities on the leopard install dvd -- you've made a backup, made sure that backup was good, and disconnected it so it's currently safely disconnected from the leopard install you're about to do. Also, on the hard drive you're erasing and installing leopard on to, many people recommend "Zeroing" it as well as erasing it. That option is part of the erase function in disc utilities on the leopard install disc.
    5. do a clean install of leopard
    6. follow step 4 from that original post exactly as that person described to do.
    7. read the rest of what they said
That's pretty much it. With the backup/erase/clean install/import/ you pretty much get everything you need exactly the way you want it with very few things missing -- and you've done this over a clean install. Plus that poster did mention that you can select what you want to import from your backup hard drive.
It sounds like its a "clean install" method that gives you control via "import from machine" option in the installer. Control over what parts of your "old mac" you want to import into your "new leopard mac".
Hopefully that helps. It sounds more involved, but its actually pretty quick and provides you with a perfectly save backup in case anything goes wrong with the leopard install.

  • N95 crashes in Data transfer via USB cable, help?

I ve been using my N95 with no problems for more than a year. Sometime ago I bought a new 8Gb Micro SDHC memory card, it was recognised by the phone and worked perfectly. But after the card was stored with data for more than 1gb, the phone crashes everytime I try to copy even the smallest file on the memory card through Data transfer mode via USB cable. Than I try to copy a file an error message is displayed in Windows XP and the phone reboots. The strangest thing that I can copy without a problem even a 500 mb movie file to the phone if the stored space on the memory card is say like 985mb, but after that it will crash even with the copying a 10 kb text file.
    Any help would be appreciated.

No, its not the file system or Memory card itself - cause transfering a data through a card reader works fine and the phone recognize correctly everything transfered. Can it be the case of USB cable driver? May be I need to install it or go for a newer version? BTW, I removed Nokia PC Suite from my notebook - cause I dont used it much, but this program still used a lot of my PC resources without asking to. I belive that PC Suite is not nesessary for using the phone through a Data Transfer mode?

  • Usb converter cable help needed

I am trying to use an external microphone for iMovies.  It apears I can use a USB microphone I have, after talking to someone at Apple.
However, I need a cable which will connect the non-rectangular end of a usb cable to a 30 pin connector.  Or the newer connector if that's going to be easier.
Apple sells usb converter cables which have the "rectangular" end of a usb cable which leads to the 30 pin (obviously becuase it's the connector with the power brick).  But I need one with the different end -- the end that generally sticks into the printer or other device -- which will then connect with a 30  pin connector.  it's not a trapezoid, but more of that than a square.
Does anyone know where I can find this?  Do I need to worry where it's made?  I ask becuase I've used some Belkin cables in the past with iPods and had some issues with them connecting cleanly.  I've looked on the Apple site and seen ones that say they're for cameras, so I feared they were for the mini-usb connectors, or wouldn't work for some othere reason.
    Help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

It sounds like your mic has USB B, while the standard is USB A.
THe camera connection kit comes with a USB to 30 pin, but it's regular USB, which is A, not USB B. So maybe a USB B female to USB A male converter? Plug your mic into the converter then the converter into the apple connector.
But unless your mic is powered, I'm not sure if the iPad will power the mic through a converter, so whatever you play with you may want to make sure they have a good return policy.
If you try to use the lightning connection, which is the newer one, may be even more problimatic simply because iOS 7.0.4 activated software that looks for signed chips in plugins and those signed chips are only authorized to companies that have gotten apple's permission to make the connector.....which adds another element of 'might not work' to the whole thing.

  • Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different plug sockets, different plugs/cables, help

Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box that came with it but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different mains plug sockets around the house with no joy, I have tried different USB mains plugs but again no joy, I tried using my new iPad cable into the USB port of my MacBook Pro laptop but still no joy, then, I tried using my old iPod classic cable into my MacBook Pro and that worked, so I have a way of charging my new iPad3 but its not practical as i have to take my MacBook Pro everywhere if I want to charge it which kind of defeats the object of having an iPad, has anybody experienced anything similar and how was it fixed? can anybody help me please...

    Grumpy Gator,
Please note it did say at the store's discretion, but people have actually been able to return it to the on-line store. (I only saw a couple who tried.)
And given the outcry, I would think Apple might have other Apple stores join in. Just in case, though, if you can, you might bring it in today.
If it's an ARS, my guess is they can stick to their 14 day return. Apple cannot force them to do it. SO if it's not bought directly from Apple, and it's past the 14 day deal, I'd bring it in to the store today if you have one. When I gave people the cnet.com site, I gave it so people could read it and know only Apple had made the decision for Apple. And I suggested to some that an Apple reseller would probably stick with their own return policy.
Because Arnie had just bought his, he should be able to return it to Apple or an ARS because an ARS has to have some kind of full refund or at least return for credit within 7 or 14 days of purchase.
    Hope this helps.

  • N97 screen cable =( help please!

    my n97 that i absolutely LOVE wouldnt start the other day;
i figured it was coz it ran out of battery
after charging it and turning it back on,
    the screen wouldnt turn on?
    everything else was fine;
it made the nokia sound at the start
and the keys lit up also.
    after looking at it;
    i realised that the screen cable;
    behind the screen; had snapped?!
is there anything i can do to fix this?
    also;
if i have to take it to a store to get fixed..
how much and how long will it take?!
-i'd appreciate any help i can get. =)

If its hardware, I would definitely recommend that you take it to Nokia care center. I dont think that it is not covered by warranty since I cannot think of a situation normally when the cable would just snap.

  • Powerbook to HDTV. Need cable help.

I'm looking to hook up my early model Powerbook 12 (the one with the the 867mhz processor) to my Sony Bravia hdtv.
Half an hour of googling has yielded this: my powerbook outputs video using some archaic **** called mini vga and there is no easy way of connecting that to a hdtv. So I was hoping some of the kind denizens of the fb forums could help me out and tell me what cables I need to get.
I also read that I would need to get audio to the tv using a separate wire. Is this as simple as hooking up an audio cable from the laptop to the tv or am I missing something?

It does have a PC input. After a bit of hunting around, I think I found the adaptor I need on amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Mini-VGA-VGA-Display-Adapter/dp/B000068BSC
But what kind of quality can expect from this sort of setup. I know I'm not going to get anywhere near HD, but will i at least get reasonable picture clarity?

  • Mac Mini - USB/RS232 Cable - help to command display

Could anyone help out with advice in a project where we would like to put a monitor in different modes from a Mac Mini.
The interface for the commands to the display is a RS232 serial port. As Mac Mini has no RS232 port but there are USB to RS232 cables on the market our question is if one could use apple script or shell script to make the job?
    Would really appreciate any advice!

this has absolutely nothing to do with scripting. you need a USB to serial adapter.

  • Apple Cable Help

Hi i have a apple cable it used to work fine i dont know why now to get the computer to detect it i have to put it in a special position, if i move it the slightest bit it disconnects. I tried different hubs, different laptops, i have iTouch 4G 32GB i also tried the cable on iPhone 3Gs and the same problem. HELP ASAP!!! Do i need a new cable? maybe i need to unhook the cord and fix it manualy???? HELP PLEASE!!!

When you say that you used the cable on the Phone do you mean that you tried connecting the phone with this cable or that you tried using the cable that came with the phone? To me you make it sound like you used this cable with the phone and still had problems.
If that is the case - It sure sounds like you need a new connector cable. If you have a spare - like one for the Phone - try that one. The cables for the Phone, The iPod Touch and the iPad are interchangeable. If another cable works OK - the one that you have been using is bad.
I would not try to fix it but that is your choice. I would buy a new one.

  • Cable help w/ mbp circa august 2006

dvi, hdmi, vga...it's like a different language.
my macbook pro circa august 2006 has finally been demoted to my streaming machine. i'd like to hook it up to my tv so i can watch netflix  on it.
my tv only has an hdmi connect, no dvi or vga.
my computer (i thought) has no hmdi, only dvi.
i ordered 3 cables: hdmi cord, mini audio cord, then an hdmi-->dvi converted cord.
the audio one works fine, but the dvi-->hdmi one doesnt fit.
help! what do i need?!? in english please! not weird cord language.
    what i've ordered:

OK...I am making some progress! I went back to look at the cords and realized that amazon sent me 2 hdmi cords instead of the converter. So I went out and bought a dvi/hdmi converter, and now the screen is working. The audio, however, is not. Do I need to go buy an audio splitter? (Like this: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Audio-Cable-Splitter-1-Mini/dp/B00004Z5CP).
The screen situation opens up a whole new world of questions. Any advice on the screen settings? When I plug in the cord, it splits the screen and when I hit "enter full screen," it doesn't pick it up to full screen it on the tv. I had to it by hand instead and just go through all the screen size options until I found one that worked (any advice?). And then some of my movies in itunes show up, but some don't ("For the Birds," will show up, but my digital copy that came with the DVD of "Wall-e" does not). What gives?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Apologies for the question upon question upon question...

  • Component av cable help??

i was wondering will the component cable give me hd video quality through my big screen and can i charge it at the same time as i have a desktop dock already
    any help is much appreciated

Yes, based on the info presentd in this aricle:

  • Ethernet Cable HELP PLZ

I have a Macbook Air 2.13ghz and I wanted to transfer movies from my Windows Computer to it. Can I use any of these: Ethernet straight-thru cable & Ethernet crossover cable

This may also help a little reference a crossover or straight through:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2274
I have always used the basic premise of a straight through is primarily used for hooking up between networks and different types of equipment whereas a
crossover cable is to hook up between two computers direct. That has changed a little in that today some devices, such as newer hubs, don't care which type it is.
Hint. Don't expect the salesperson to know the difference between the two. I always keep at least one of each on hand.

  • Questions about interfaces, monitors, keyboards, cables help please

I just bought a macbook pro 1.87ghz. w/ 1 gb I would like to record music primararly acoustic stuff (john mayer type stuff) I was wondering what types of
interfaces or keyboards, mics, monitors, cables ,should I buy to get the most professional sound with. I have a budget of about 1200.00 I want to spend any recommendations? Please Help I appreciate your time:)

What I would probably go with in this situation, using the limited information you have given:
    Interface - Presonus Firebox $300
    Keyboard - M-Audio Oxygen 8 v2 $150
    Mics - Studio Projects B1 and C1 $300
    Monitors - Event ALP5 $300
(really would depend on whatever small monitor sounds best to you)
Cables (firewire, usb, mic, stands, etc.) - $100
Now you will probably get as many different answers as you will responders but the best advice I can give is to read everything you can on recording and mixing. During this time, save up another $800 or so and treat your recording and mixing area.
