TV-Bluray Help!

Insignia TV: NS-39L240A13 (Best Buy purchase). Panasonic BR player. Generic HDMI cables.
Bluray picture sometimes goes (gradually) snowy and POPS out. No pic, TV error message "No signal" while Bluray continues to play (the movie clock keeps going).
Changed HDMI cable, switched HDMI port on TV, tried wireless/wired Bluray connection. ALL OTHER electronics work just fine in all HDMI ports. Replaced Bluray player (Philips). Same thing happens. It has to be the TV. Every salesperson from Best Buy to Target to Walmart to the ghastly HH Gregg tell me that expensive HDMI cables won't remedy. (I don't want to drop $40 for nothing---I already have 2 friggin' BR players.)
Anyone else have issues w/ Bluray "compatibility?" Happens with disks and Netflix. (Wii U Netflix connection is flawless.)
AT&T U-verse is my provider.
HALP!

Hi there ipecac-
If you believe that the Insignia TV may be the issue, you may also want to post this question on our official Insignia forums found here.
Hopefully someone there may be able to answer why this is happening.  Is the firmware on both blu-ray players up to date?

  • Encoding for BluRay Help Please

    Hello,
I'm encoding BluRay for the first time using Media Encoder CS4.
First, some details about my footage.
Shot with a Panasonic HVX-170 set at: 1080i/24PA.
    The footage properties are: 1280 x 1080, Pixel Depth 32, Frame Rate 29.97 (24P),
Audio 16/48K, Average Data Rate: 1.2 Mb, Pixel Aspect Ratio is 1.5
There are a number of settings to choose from. Some obviously aren't correct but I'm not sure
    about the others. I don't see one for 1280 x 1080.
So out of all these settings, which is the one I need to Encode my footage for the best results?
    1440x1080i 25 High Quality
    1440x1080i 29.97 High Quality
    1440x1080p  23.976 High Quality
    1440x1080p  24 High Quality
    HDTV 1080i 25 High Quality
    HDTV 1080i 29.97 High Quality
    HDTV 1080p 23.976 High Quality
HDTV 1080p High Quality SurCode For Dolby Digital 5.1
    HDTV 1080p 24 High Quality
    HDTV 720p 23.976 High Quality
    HDTV 720p 24 High Quality
    HDTV 720p 50 High Quality
    HDTV 720p 59.94 High Quality
    NTSC DV High Quality
    NTSC DV Widescreen High Quality
Also, can anyone explain what H.264 BluRay is used for?
    Thanks very much in advance.
    Mark Dalzell

    Jim,
First off, thanks for taking time to help out. I'm encoding now.
I have a question if you wouldn't mind. I'm a little confused. Well OK, a lot...
Is there any specific reason as to why I wouldn't use the setting(s) either
HDTV 1080i 29.97 High Quality or HDTV 1080p 24 High Quality?
The reason I ask is because it was shot at 1080i/24PA and
    the frame rate is 29.97.
Again, my thanks to you for helping me out.
    Best.
    Mark

  • Best Settings For Burning/Writing a Playable Bluray?? ("Everybody" Claims To Be An Expert!!!)  HELP!

My friend said it best here the other night at my place. Everybody claims to be an expert. One guy says, Maximum Bitrate for a Playable Bluray
is 22 with a target of 20, another guy says 25, this guy says that, that guy says this??? Inside Adobe the setting can be set to up to 40???  After awhile
you just want to pull your hair out!!!
Someone please help me here... I honestly get tired a seeing this... "WELL IT ALL DEPENDS WHAT YOU NEED IT FOR, BLA, BLA, BLA"  I need
it to play on a Bluray Player and be the best possible quality that it can be. I would like to know the best possible Transcoding Settings for a playable Bluray.
People all over the net and in the forums ask, yet the answers are a) THIN, and B) Different people say different Bitrates??? I mean is there
someone out there who has actually experimented with these things so many times that they are a TRUE EXPERT with this??
So, what is so difficult about an Adobe expert coming to the forum and saying... THESE ARE THE BEST QUALITY SETTINGS??
    Anyway, Questions.
#1 Why is it that if you click Maximum PROPERTIES (right hand window) it will change from Automatic to Maximum quality and the preset that you choose, however over on the right hand side
if you check your project settings the Bitrate stays the same 15??? (Even though the project size goes up in Megabytes as well)  Yet, you can still change the bitrate up to a Maximum of 40 if you want???
#2 Project Settings, Transcode Settings...  Someone Please explain???
    #3 Edit Quality Presets??
    #4 Longform For H.264???
#5 AND THE BIGGIE QUESTION OF ALL TIME??? Why is it that there are INTERLACED options/settings to make a Bluray???
(The reason I ask is that everywhere I read about Encore it says its job is to Deinterlace during the Transcode. So why Interlacing options?)
IF NOBODY WANTS TO TAKE ALL OF THE QUESTIONS ON, AT LEAST ANSWER WHAT THE MAXIMUM BUT RATE FOR A BURNED BLURAY SHOULD BE???

What PHAM originally said about BITRATE. (He was explaining to some guy on the forum)   "H.264 is more efficient than MPEG2 HD, most BD movies are using H.264, if your project is short and under 1 hr. I would use CBR at 38000kb/s for video and 448kb/s for audio, at this rate I don't think you can see a difference between those two codec so I would go with MPEG2 HD cuz it is much faster to encode, for longer project with lower bitrate then I would use H.264, if it is longer you better use a bitrate calcultor to give you the average bitrate."
What Geddes said after Pham wrote what he wrote... And then you saw the SMACKDOWN above. And I loved it, ya... Everybody's an expert... Then after the smackdown, Geddes comes back in and agrees with Pham...lol... http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/blu-ray-authoring/474659-coding-best-blu-ray.html Why spew your B.S. all over the net about bitrates if you are not so sure???  What follows is what the Geddes dude wrote. (DON'T LISTEN TO HIM, LISTEN TO PHAM)
Do not encode higher than 25 mbps, as it can cause playback problems on Blu-ray players.
Just like DVD's, burned Blu-ray media has lower reflectivity than pressed commercial discs (store bought movies), and therefore cannot sustain as high of a bitrate during playback.
Some Hollywood Blu-ray discs exceed 40 mbps, but this is only possible because they are pressed.
When using h.264 codec, you can encode at 20 mbps, and it will be near identical to the source.
Use 2-pass variable bitrate for most efficient encoding. You can set the target bitrate at 20 mbps, with a max of 25 mbps. This will give you excellent results, and not cause playback issues.

  • Help! Sony S560 Bluray + WRT54G router

Hello - I just bought the Sony S560 Bluray player and is connecting wirelessly (with the built-in WiFi) to my old Linksys WRT54GS router on my home network.  I used Sony's automatic setup (picking my access point using my SSID, automatic IP address/subnet, WEP 129-bit passkey, and no proxy).  The player reports the network connection to be successful - it seems to be working as it also downloaded the latest bluray software/firmware as soon as the connection was established.
Now, I am trying to set up the DLNA network to stream photos.  On my PC (connected via wire to the WRT54GS), I cannot see the bluray player anywhere under "My Network Places" (I am running XP).  For example, when I turn on one of my laptops in the house, I can see the laptop appear under "Workgroup" when it connects to the router.  But even when the Sony bluray player connect to the router, I cannot see this device anywhere on my PC.
On the player, the Network Connection diagnostic is reported successfu.  But on the Connection Server diagnostic (when it tries to find a DLNA server), the bluray player reports an error - it says it cannot find the server and suggested I check all my firewall settings.
I have gone into the router admin page and turned off the hardware firewall (no change).  I also ensured that the checkbox for uPNP devices is checked.  My DLNA server is on my desktop (via XMBC software) computer (under "Entire Network"\Microsoft Windows Network\Workgroup\Desktop").  This is the same network place that my laptops appear as well when they are connected to my home network.  My questions:
    1) Why doesn't my PC see the Blurray device, even though the internet connection to the player seems to be working?
    2) I know my Bluray player can connect to the internet - so is it really the firewall settings that is preventing the player to see my DLNA server on my PC?
    3) I've been reading that some needed to buy a "wireless gaming adapter" to stream from PS3, Xbox etc... do I have to buy this adapter to stream photos from my PC onto my Bluray player?
Any help is greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!!

Normally it is because of UPnP..As the UPnP is already enabled on the router,I would suggest you to try upgrading the router's firmware, reset the router for 30 seconds after upgrading and reconfigure the router from scratch.

  • Premiere Pro CC 7.1 Update Kills Bluray (H264) Exports...help!

Yes, there's another thread in the Encore forum about this but since it hit a dead end, maybe someone here in this forum can help since it's actually Premiere/AME causing the issue...
The problem is simple and it's cross-platform:
When you export a H264 Bluray file using the new Premiere 7.1 update (using AME Queue or Direct Export from Premiere) and drop that file into Encore CS6, it shows up as "Untranscoded" and Encore forces you to re-transcode it all over again a second time in order to burn it (you cannot manually switch it to "Don't Transcode"). Export the same exact project using the same exact settings through Premiere 7.0.1 and the resulting files show up in Encore as "Don't Transcode" so they don't get re-transcoded a second time.
Try it. It sucks. Any ideas?

For those interested, the Encore thread is here:

  • Help: A bluray drive compatible with MAc Pro 1.1 2006 2007

    Hi,
Seems my factory bundled Pioneer dvd drive is bad and I need a compatible bluray drive now.
I have read that there are some issues with some models of  Pioneer and LG drives.
I tried to install older LG DVD drives I had here and they just kept ejecting dvd discs.
However, they were able to burn cd-Rs.
I was advised to search for Pioneer Bdr-208dbk
    and LG WH14NS40MP  .
Here in Brazil we have similar names, maybe they are adapted for our country market.
I am using Toast 10 with OS 10.6.8.
    MAc Pro 2.66 8GB RAM.
    Any help is greatly welcomed!
    Thanks in advance!

  • [help] Transcoding for Bluray using a CS5 project on CS4

    Hey guys, I'm back again.
I'm not sure how to approach this, but I am currently using Encore CS5 but my school uses CS4. I created a full project (the same film that I have had issues with previously) and changed the build from DVD to Bluray and tried to have CS4 transcode. As soon as the menus were done rendering, CS4 will crash citing a rendering error. As I am typing right now, CS5 is transcoding for bluray without a single hitch. The only problem is, my laptop does not have a bluray burner, so i have to rely on the school's system that still runs CS4 to burn the bluray.
I'm thinking that a workaround to this is probably to duplicate my project and bring in the transcoded files as an asset and put them in the timeline, place in the chapter markers/poster frames and build from there. I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do this.

There is no need to burn iso to disc using any other software.
You can burn iso to disc from Encore also.
Steps to burn iso to disc through encore -
    1. create a new project
    2. Go to build panel
    3. select the Format as Blu ray and output as Blu ray disc
    4. Select source as Disc image.
    5. Browse the image path and burn the blu ray disc.
    Thanks,
    Pankaj Gauba

  • Compressor 4.1.2 BluRay Encoded File is too big - Help!

I just encode a 4 hours of HD footage using compressor's Bluray output (H.264 Video & AC3 Audio).  It took near 10 hours of seemingly wasted time.  I am working with 25g blurry discs and the H.264 File Size is 27.71 gigs.  So now I need to re-encode.
How can I control the file size in this newest version of compressor?  In the past compressor always knew to keep the h-264 file size under 25gigs.  Any ideas?
    Thank you!

If you visit the FCP X discussions forum you will several threads about Blu Ray issues. There are clearly some problems that affect some systems in unexpected ways
    chadridv wrote:
OK, so after many many hours!  The file size still came in too big.
That's why I suggested twice that you do a short, 15 minute test…so you wouldn't have to waste al that time to find out it wasn't encoding the projected size.
Sure. Drop both he average and max bit rate. But do the 15 minute test first to confirm it will fiit. I don't know why it's overshooting but it is and there's some guess work involved,

  • Mediasmart/bluray freeze up. help =(

so i reccently got myself a new hp pavilion dv7 notebook with windows 7 with bluray and im having a problem while watching blurays via the mediasmart software provided on my laptop.
my movies randomly stop playing and i cannot exit the mediasmart program which forces me to ctrl/alt/delete to fix the problem. im not to sure what to do! i can still scroll around the screen but the picture is frozen, i cant hit play/skip/pause and i cannot exit the mediasmart program. its done this on 3 separate occasions on 3 diff movies (star trek, haunting in conneticut and dark knight) and it always happens at random times. my screen is set to NEVER shut off as well as having my computer set to not fall asleep on me.

This is exactly what happened to my iBook. I was surfing the net, then the freezup, then restart and the blue screen. I also noticed that the longer I let it sit before trying again, the farther it would go with the process of starting up. After doing some reading I surmised that the logic board was fried and needed to be replaced.
I took the iBook to the local reseller where they confirmed that the problem was logic board failure and sent it to Apple, who fixed it for $350 + sales tax. Apple shipped it to and from the reseller with DHL. On the way back, the package made it as far as DHL's local distribution center before dissapearing. It's gone. Yeah.
If Apple decides to replace it with a new iBook I hope it's one that doesn't break down on me, but the messages I've read in this forum don't exactly inspire confidence.

  • Help: after installing bluray drive, Fan accelarates mac freezes

    Hi,
I worked one day long perfectly. burning cds, dvds, with Pro Tools HD.
I woke uo today and mac pro acts strangely.
The Fan accelerates as **** and unit and mac seems to freeze.
I tried holding D when booting as suggested and nothing happened.
There was a moment a message like "panic cpu @ caller" popped up at the left in the top side of the screen.
I am really worried, since this is my main machine.
The LG WHns40 blu ray drive seems to be popular with the users.
I used a Sata cable to connect it directly to the mother board of theis Mac Pro 1.1
    Thanks in advance!

    you need ATI 5770.
If you plan to go to Lion 10.7.5, do a clean install, leave 10.6.8 "as is"
Make sure your hardware and software are compatible.
I know there are threads about BlueRay but never used one, maybe you installed some software and drivers and they are a problem??

  • New to HD Editing and CS, building a PC to suit requirements of HD edit. Experienced help wanted :-)

Firstly let me say hi and thanks in advance to all that read and assist with my questions
    A Bit about me..
I have recently acquired the need for video editing at a much higher level with both having a family now (baby daughter) and a very active hobby (rc heli flying at a sponsored level).  With this in mind I bought a HD video camera some time back without the realisation that, to effectively edit such footage requires horsepower!!.... so i have saved up for a new computer and ended up here after much reading on various forums (toms hardware, video guys etc etc).
    Where I am up too....
I have started by firstly implementing a NAS into my Home network which is primarily used to store and stream media (Gigabit LAN) around the home. It is setup in RAID 5 with 5 x 2TB disks (so about 7TB of storage).  I have done this so there is some backup of photos, movies, home video etc (if I lose a disk , hopefully i will not lose the lot).  I have also acquired adobe Premiere Pro CS 5 and now need a workstation that will allow me to edit in confort ( the one I have will not even run it!! .
My aim is to store original files and completed work on the NAS (or burn to Bluray etc).
I am looking at a PC solution, as I can obviously get more horsepower for less $$ than a laptop solution.
I have built PC's in the past but not with high frequency and this will be the biggest budget one I will have attempted. I have been researching alot over the last few weeks about sytems and components and found this forum to be very good in dealing with hardware specs and requiremnts in a very proffesional way.
I am now at the point where I getting a little muddled with which way to go and still have a lot of research to complete.  My approach is to tackle each of the components needed one at a time in a fairly hierarchial manner.
What the PC will be used for..
This PC will be used primarily for the video editing and some gaming (when I have time).  AlLso any other horsepower intensive apps if needed (I have a laptop and other comps for general duties).
    Budget
My budget is fairly rigid at $2500 AUD (so I am not looking at a Zeon solution LOL). The budget is to include:
    Case                              ?
CPU                            Intel I7 2600K (based on my research this seems to be the best way to go with my budget and needs)
CPU Cooler                  Standard Intel supplied Cooler (seems to perform reasonably well even when moderately overclocking (~4.0 - 5.0 khz)
    MOBO                           ?
    RAM                              ?
    Graphics Card                 ?
    BLURAY Writer               ?
    PSU                               ?
    HDD Storage               1 SSD and 3 HDD's with 2 in Raid "0"
    OS                              Windows 7 64 Bit
    23 inch Screen               ?
    Questions
         Motherboard
I guess my issues with MOBO slection revolve firstly around which chipset to go with Z68 (newer) or the P67?  It seems the Z68 is feature rich, however I also seem to feel that the Quick sync and SRT would be better disabled with what I am setting the machine up for? So therefore what advantage is there with going with Z68 if any? or am I better off getting a more established P67 chipset based board?
I also see that some boards have the Nvidia NF200 for expanding bandwidth on the restrictive 16 PCIe lanes available on the 1155 socket boards given I am only looking at one decent Graphics card is this a chip I should avoid (as I have read this can cause latency with only one graphics card)?
Another thing I have noticed is some boards have a PLX PEX8608 chip which seems to manage the limited PCIe lanes better if other cards are plugged in?
I also see some boards have the Marvell Sata 3 controller on them that does not seem to perform as well as the native Intel Sata 3 controller on the Southbridge in tests.  I guess I have no real idea of when I would be looking at stretching the bandwidth and wonder whether I need to concern myself with 4 x sata 3 connections (2 intel and 2 Marvell)?
One last question I see there is now MOBO's available with PCIe 3.0 available (even though there are no devices that can utilize it) is this even worth being a consideration or is it not really of any importance to the slection process?
In summary it appears there is lots of goodies on offer with different chipsets and boards, however I do not want to waste budget on things I have no use for or gimmicks.
         CPU Cooler
It is my intent to start with the factory supplied Intel bundled cooler and invest the money not spent on this item on better graphics card etc. For moderate Overclocking it seems to perform ok.... am hoping this will be ok?
        HDD Storage
At this stage I am not up to speed with the exact storage devices I need, I am initially looking at whether my ideas for a storage system have merit? Please bear in mind I am not a CSpro user as of yet and so some of this is just based on research with no base knowledge....?
1 x ~120Gb SSD                                    for OS and Programs
    1 x ??Gb/TB HDD 7200 rpm                    for Media Projects
2 x ?? Gb/TB HDD 7200 rpm in raid "0"    for Media Cache and Preview Files
Will the onboard Raid controller accommadate the above adequately?
        Graphics Card
I am looking at Nvidia as far as I can tell so that I may make use of the CUDA threads and as far as type I assume I pick the best one of the approved list (adobe approved list)?  I am still confused ast to whether there is any benefit from a using a twin GPU card, its unclear to me whether the CUDA can tap into both of the GPU's on such a card? Of course budget restraint will come into play here.
         Ram
I am looking at 4 x 4gb dual channel Ram cards to give a total of 16Gb total (DDR 3)  as for brands, types and frequencies I have no idea yet and need to cover off some of the above first before my research gets too wide?
         PSU and Case
I am hoping for a modular device for this, however I was thinking this and the case are a low priority at this stage (until some of the other solutions are verified).
         Blur Ray writer /reader
With me using my NAS for media streaming I will not be burngin to many Blu ray disks, however I will be reading a few so that I can upload them onto the NAS via this unit.  I have no idea what is a good or bad unit or what to look for in this area?
         Monitor
I have found some cheap solutions in the 23" sizing for a main screen (~160 AUD) supported by my existing 17' monitor, however is there anything I should be looking for in particular with the monitor I choose?
I will update each section with what is decided on so that it may help others who are having the same tough decisions to make?
Even if we just tackle the Motherboard first I would be greatfull...
Thanks for reading and again all assistance is appreciated.
    Regards
    Jody
