TV causes interference with powerline adapter

I just had infinity installed and I have a problem with my powerline adapters, which is next to the TV (it is for the sky+ box for sky go). The powerline adapters are TP-Link tl-pa211 and the TV is a Panasonic th-37px70b.
When the TV is on, the maximum I can get through the ethernet powerline is 14mb/s, but if the TV is off or on standby I can get close 40mb/s (i.e. the maximum on the broadband line). The TV is on a wall bracket so it is difficult to move.
I have tried:
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 1 and powerline in room 1 - 14mb/s when tv is on, 40mb/s when tv is off/standby.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 1 and powerline in room 2 - 40mb/s constantly.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 2 and powerline in room 2 - 40mb/s constantly.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 2 and powerline in room 1 - 14mb/s when tv is on, 40mb/s when tv is off/standby.
It seems it is the actual TV that is directly causing the interference with the powerline adapater, not the TV causing interference in the electricity line. I'm not sure how it can interfere directly.
Has anyone had anything like this before or is the TV just faulty?

Thanks for you reply. I have tried the TV connected directly to the socket and the powerline connected to a seperate twin socket about 1 meter away and I still get the problem when the TV is on. Also, I have connected the TV to a power socket on the other side of the house with a extension cord while not actually moving the TV and the powerline adapter connected to a socket near the TV and this still gives the same problem when the TV is on. And then, with the TV still on the extension cord to the otherside of the house, I connected the powerline to the same twin socket as the extension cord and this produced no problems.
So, it must be the physical proximity of the TV with the powerline adapter that is causing the problem. So could the TV be emmitting some frequency that is interfering with the powerline adapter?
I actually use a wireless powerline adapter (TP-Link TL-WPA281) in the socket, but for testing this problem I use the non-wireless version (TP-Link TK-PA211). And according to this thread, the BT Hub 3B isn't compatible with wireless extenders. Why is upgrading to infinity so annoying?

  • Roaming Network with Powerline Adapter

    Hello,
I have read numerous posts on this, but I am still having a small issue.  My setup is as follows:
Arris router set on bridge connected to
latest gen. time capsule (set to DHCP, create network), connected to a powerline adapter that then runs upstairs.  The other powerline adapter is upstairs and connected to latest generation airport express (bridge mode, create network with same ID and pwd as the time capsule).
Previously, I had the time capsule and the airport express (via the powerline adapter) each connected to the arris router, but this was causing some issues.
Nevertheless, with the new roaming network setup, the powerline adapter seems to be getting slower speeds or the upstairs airport express is slow.  I can get close to 30 down from the time capsule, but half that on the airport express.
    Any suggestions?

Powerline is always "iffy". The system can work OK when the powerline adapters are on the same electrical circuit, but things really slow down.....dramatically, in some cases.....when the adapters are on different electrical circuits, since there is a significant signal loss when one tries to "jump"' circuits.....no matter what the advertising or sales guy might say.
The signal will also slow down quite rapidly over distance.
Not much that you can do about that, unfortunately, other than experiment a bit with different AC sockets in different locations to see if one might be better than another. Like wireless, powerline is half science and half voodoo, so there are never any clear cut rules about what will and will not work.
Some users can get by with powerline, but the folks who are looking for the best performance almost always come to realize that there is nothing better than an Ethernet cable with no loss up to 300+ feet or 100 meters.  Yes, I know that the running the cable might not be easy, but a good electrician or wire guy can do some amazing things.

  • PC causing interference with Airport Express 802.11n

    Hi there,
My airport extreme base station is operating in WDS mode, with an Airport Express as a remote wds.
When i power on a Dell laptop in the house where the AEBS is, the wireless connectivity for any Macs or Pc's connected to the AEBS grinds to a halt. After a few seconds, the AEBS provides zero connectivity. When I turn the Dell's power off, the AEBS signal builds to where it was prior to the Dell being turned on, which is very strong.
The wireless antenna for the dell is not even powered on, and it is not connected to the AEBS via wire either.
Has anyone experienced this kind of interference with the AEBS? I would like to use this Dell on the AEBS network via wireless. Unfortunately, tossing the Dell out the window is not an option for me. Thanks!

Seems the Dell's docking station was interfering with the ABS. Strange.

  • Internet cuts out for 30 secs with powerline adapter PLSK400

I recently just bought a powerline starter kit (PLSK 400) and I plugged one adapter into the router and into the electrical socket. (which is up stairs). I plugged in my other adapter downstairs in my room and it is hooked up to my PC and Playstation.
The only problem is that my internet cuts out every 20 mins for about 30 secs. This gets annoying cause I play games a lot on my desktop. Any reason why this may be happening?

Hi paperstreet, to change channels you will have to access the PLW400 setup page first.

  • MacBook Pro causing interference with EyeTV while charging

    Hi,
I bought an EyeTV DTT a while back and it just will not display anything while my MBP is on AC power, the signal quality drops from around 80% to zero. I also noticed by accident, that if there is current running through the magsafe (I accidentally let it touch something metal), the same interference is caused even if it is not connected to the MacBook Pro. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks but I've tried both USB ports and tried moving the device away with a USB hub and a USB extension, both didn't work.

  • Base station causing interference with cable modem

I have a late model apple airport extreme base station with time machine. The unit is placed next to the cable box (that provides phone service) that connects to the modem that connects to the base station. When the base station is turned on and working (we use wifi ) there is a nuisance noise in the phones when making and receiving a call for the first 20 to 30 seconds and then disappears. When the base station is disconnected there are no problems with the phones.
Is there such a thing as shielding for the cable box and/or modem? Or is there a simpler solution?
    Thanks in advance!
    Luc

    Hi thanks for your response.
I use a VOIP phone system provided by the cable company (no phone filters required). The VOIP connects to an analog phone management system called Talkswitch. So I have three VOIP lines connecting to the Talkswitch box and 7 lines leaving the Talkswitch box connecting to analogue phones (wired) throughout the office. So to recap:
Cable company line connects to a VOIP Box (ARIS TM604G).
A modem (Thompson DCM475) connects to the the VOIP Box and to the Apple Extreme Base station (with Time Machine).
Three phone lines connect the VOIP Box directly to the Talkswitch Box. The Talkswitch Box is NOT connected to the Apple Base Station.
The server (Mac Mini) is wired to the Apple Base Station.
When I make or receive a call there is a buzzing sound in the line. Sound disappears after 20 to 30 seconds.
When I turn the Base Station off (disconnect) the buzzing sound disappears.
When I leave the Base Station ON and I connect a phone directly to the VOIP Box, there is no buzzing.
I can only assume that the Base Station is interfering with something. Is it the Talkswitch box or the phone cables?
Should I move the Base Station further from the Talkswitch box? or Use shielded cables (which ones)? Or is there another solution? Or is it a voltage problem?
    Thanks!
    Luc
PS : I did not have this problem with the older Apple Base Station. Is the new one too powerful?

  • Airport Express with powerline -- limits of 100BaseT?

    Background
My home network currently uses an Airport Express A1392 to create simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. In addition to non-media application (e.g. checking email, printing, general internet surfing), I also use my network to stream audio from  a media server to various stereo components via DNLA. Since, my DNLA renderers  lack wifi, I am using two Airport Express A1264, both in "Join a network" mode, to provide the DNLA renderers with wifi capability (they join to the 5 GHz network). This setup works great for streaming CD quality audio (44.1 kHz 16bit) to the DNLA renderers, but recently I've been trying to play hi res audio (192 kHz 24bit or 96 kHz 24bit), and the network doesn't offer sufficient throughput 48 kHz 24bit. (I also tried turning off the 5 GHz network and putting everything on 2.4 GHz, just in case making the A1392 run two simultaneous networks were consuming too many network resources, but that turned out to offer less throughput, not more, than my current configuration.)
I'm considering adding some powerline adapters in order to take the DNLA renderers off of the wifi network and put them on something that is wired. I've read that the powerline adapters rated for 500 MBps offer real world throughout somewhere between 100 and 150 MBps, and that should be enough to  allow me to stream uncompressed 192 kHz 24bit audio with plenty of bandwidth to spare. While I'm at it, I may look into installing gigabit powerline adapters to accomodate future growth, assuming they aren't prohibitively expensive (I've heard they are available from both Monster and Belkin).
    Question:
I am aware that the AE A1392 has 100BaseT ethernet ports, and I don't want that to be a limiting factor on the throughput of the powerline network. If I have a powerline adapter plugged into the LAN ethernet port of the AE A1392, and 3+ powerline adapters elsewhere in the house providing ethernet to my DNLA renderers, my media server, and possibly other components in the future, will my AE A1392 be performing a switching function (in which case I'd expect the 100BaseT ethernet port on the AE A1392 would constrain my bandwidth), or do the powerline adapters perform all of the switching? If the powerline adapters do not perform any switching but depend on the network router or a seperate ethernet switch, then I imagine my options are either to upgrade the AE A1392 to an Airport Extreme, which offers a 1000BaseT ethernet ports, or else to insert a traditional gigabit switch in between the AE A1392 and the powerline adapter.
    Thanks for the help!

Rude_Dog, Welcome to the discussion area!
First of all, thanks for your input, Duane.
Currently your AirPort Express (AX) is a wireless client of the Time Capsule.
If you connect them via Ethernet, you would reconfigure the AX to create a wireless network and to act as a bridge (not sharing a single IP address).
Is that like automatic ? The second I plug the patch cable into the AX, it creates a separate network ?
If you want to make one big wireless network, so that you can roam without having to switch between networks, you would configure the AX to use the same SSID (network name) and wireless encryption type/level/password as used by the Time Capsule. If you don't do this you will have 2 separate wireless networks. One created by the Time Capsule and another created by the AX.
Actually, I want to get as much as possible away from wireless. The only devices still wireless are the AX (b/g) and my Touch - everything else is hardwired.
Is there no possibility at all to get the AX to join the existing network and yet have a "wired" connection so that I have no more interference from my bl**dy neighbors ?
Or do I need new AX(n) units to achieve that ?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
As per client's requirement, we shouldn't be using java service for this functionality.
And as you said, the oracle adapters are not taking anywhere, but guess have no other choice..

  • Powerline Adapter TP-Link TL-PA4010KIT - AV500 Nano Powerline trustable?

    Hi Guys
I'm considering on buying a new powerline adapter set since there seem to be difficulties with mine (7 years old now so I guess it has had it's best time).
Is TP-Link TL-PA4010KIT - AV500 Nano Powerline adapter startset a good device or is TP-link in general trustable?
Other tips or devices/adapter sets to consider?
    Thanks
    Bob

Powerline in general is an "iffy" kind of deal since every installation is different.
I've seen installations where TP-Link products worked very well in one installation....my neighbor's house, for example.....while the same models of products did not work reliably in another installation....my home.
But the fact that Netgear worked well for me when I was using powerline a few years ago does not mean to imply that Netgear products would work well for you.
In general, it is probably fair to say that TP-Link products are a good value, so that might be a good place to start.
The bottom line to your question is this.....
You will not know how well....or if....the products you choose will work well for your installation until you try them out in your home. For that reason, it would be wise to have a clear understanding of the store's return policy before you buy.

  • Can someone recommend a powerline adapter that works w/ Airport Express/AirPlay?

I recently purchased the Netgear Powerline 500 Nano PassThru Dual Port (XAVB5602-100NAS) and it works fine when I connect it to another computer in my house, but when I connect it to my 1st Gen airport express to use AirPlay through my stereo receiver the connection fails and it disconnects my internet connection over my entire network. Any suggestions? I'm trying to "hardwire" my network to my stereo because i'm getting frequent disruptions running it purely via wifi.

Let's start over, please, working from the cable modem outward.
It sounds like Express A is working fine right now with the cable modem Ethernet cable connected to the WAN port on the Express A. Test to confirm that the wireless is working on this Express.
Plug one powerline adapter into an AC socket near the location of Express A. Connect an Ethernet cable from the LAN port on Express A to the Ethernet port on the powerline adapter.
Plug the other powerline adapter into an AC socket near the location where B will be located.
Test to make sure that the Ethernet powerline adapters are working correctly.
To do this, temporarily turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop directly to the powerline adapter near the location of Express B using an Ethernet cable.
See if you can get an Internet connection on the laptop this way. If you can, then that confirms that both powerline adapters are functioning correctly. If you cannot get an Internet connection this way, more troubleshooting will be needed before we can proceed with the installation of Express B.
Post back on your progress. We'll need to know what operating system you arre using on your Mac or PC to be able to provide instructions to configure Express B.
If you have a Mac, but do not know what operating system it is running, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Click About This Mac, then look for the OS X Version number and post back with that info.

This schema works fine and data is produced as expected when I am using "chars" as the stream option. However I can't use "chars" as the stream option and need "bytes" as the stream option. However when mentinong "bytes" option the following exception is generated:
    Charset "MS932" not supported.

Please let me know can I at all read a file in byte format with File adapter using a desired encoding style? This is littile urgent.
    Thanks

    Hi James,
Yeah I tried that too and it gave the same error. And I need to encode with MS932 only since the data will contain Japanese characters and this encoding is identified both by windows and non-windows OS.
Please can you advice what can I do since the requirement is urgent.
    Thanks

  • Powerline adapter connection to switch

    Hi,
I have had BT Infinity installed last week and quickly found out that my speeds are much better wired than wireless.
After a little research, I am planning to buy the following two products:
    TP-Link PA411KIT AV500 500 Mbps Powerline Adapter - Twin Pack
    TP-Link TL-SG1005D 5-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Desktop Switch
The plan is to connect an ethernet cable from my HomeHub3 into one of the powerline adapters, and put the other powerline adapter in my upstairs bedroom and connect an ethernet cable from that to 1 of the 5 ports on the desktop switch.
Will this planned setup allow me to use the remaining 4 ports to connect my laptop, xbox 360, and sky+HD box in my upstairs bedroom using ethernet cables whilst maintaining wired internet speeds?
It's going to be £50 to put in place so I'd rather know beforehand whether or not I'm wasting my time with this.
    Thanks in advance.

I find the speed is just like wired but with infinity speed you may find a slight drop but will be alot better than wireless.  you should be able to connect your devices to the switch without a problem
