TV/Computer Screen

I'm guessing that this question has been asked a thousand time before, but since, i'm not that tech savvy, i'm seeking some guidance.
I just moved into what you could basically call nothing but a box. LOL. anyway, with me living in such a small space, i desparately need to find thing that are multifunctional.
i'm currently in search of a TV that can be also used as a computer screen.
the TV need to be able to connect to the internet, and have all the necessary inputs and hookups in order for me to plug in my modem (Comcast if that makes a difference) whether it's through Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB, HDMI, etc.
IF anybody can guide me to finding the best, or to look for some KEY points to find that multifuntional TV/Computer screen. You'd be a REAL lifesaver.
THANKS

You'll find an "all in one" device (TV with Internet capabilities) lacking here.
However, what will probably work for you is a small form factor PC that has an HDMI output connected to any decent 1080p HDTV.
An HDMI TV and a PC monitor are nearly indistinguishable as far as the PC goes these days, with the exception of physical screen size.  NOTE:  Some operating systems use the physical display size when calculating font sizes, and will cause fonts to be displayed badly on HDTVs until you override the font DPI setting of the PC.  (For example, Ubuntu would autodetect my 46" TV as something like a 40 DPI display, making everything look awful until I switched it to 96 DPI.)

  • How to Use My TV screen as a Computer Screen

    Hi everyone,
I have a 24" Intel IMAC, 1 year old. Great computer! I saw in some other posts that this is possible but I didn't quite understand what I need to do. I would like to use my TV screen as a computer screen, so I can watch things like my subscription to MLB.TV or any other video that I can play on my IMAC. I saw in some posts about using an Apple Video Adapter. Please be specific for me, is that what connects from the back of my IMAC? If so which slot? And going out from the computer, what does that connect to? What should I buy? And from there I can use a composite cables to connect to my TV? Yes, I have inputs for those on the TV.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Your TV based on the jacks present (which are the same as ports), sound like quite an antique. Modern TVs have special jacks for computer hookup. Sounds like your TV has none. The best you'd hope to achieve is 720 x 480 resolution which would result in very little room for the windows on your screen, and very large text on your TV. Trying to even get the menubar and dock on the screen will be a challenge since TVs that only offer 720 x 480 resolution don't offer any screen area beyond the screen safe area for the menubar and Dock to be visible. It will just center on the screen's center, cutting off 20% of the exterior four sides. Ideally you'd want a 1080P HD-TV for computer hookup.

You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
    These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
    Connect it the new computer
    Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved.  That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

My daughter disconnected her iPod nano from the lead before ejecting the device.  It no longer syncs and we have re-set the device, but it now only occasionally appears on the computer screen any suggestions please?

Restoring the iPod will do nothing to his iPhone.
When you restore it wipes the iPod clean no matter what computer you use.
The only plus to doing it form your home computer is if you have a backup stored there, then you can restore from the backup once it's done wiping.
If you are away form your home computer, go ahead and use the computer you have to restore it, then when you get home, you can restore form any backup you may find. You can use this to help you do that when you get there: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766

  • Video looks fine on NTSC / TV, looks bad on computer screen?

Hi, sorry for the basic question, but i seem to have forgotten the best method for converting my video to a format best suited to play on a computer screen.
I understand the difference between ntsc and computer screens, as well as why ntsc or most standard tv's play interlaced video well, but i can't seem to find a good codec for exporting (or converting) my video so that it will look sharp on a computer screen.
The project is for a school, and the primary playback for them will be 1, via a computer out to lcd projector, and 2, simply on a computer. BY the way, the school uses PC's (UGGG!).
I'm currently doing tests with quick time conversion and trying (amongst other things) Dvix, wmv, and h264.
The videos are all 720 / 480, dv/dvcpro ntsc as far as fcp sequence settings, and have all been exported via compressor > dvdsp4 as standard DVD's. All of them look great on the tv (of course) and now it's just a matter of whipping out versions that are formatted to play best on computers.
    Any advice

apparently there is a de-interlace filter in FCP. i don't know much about solving your problem. it has always been a mystery to me. but found this article yesterday which could be your problem. check it out:

for some reason this link is not working. google this:

I have a Macbook Pro (late 2012) and I would like to connect it to 2 screens simultaneously (1 screen is a TV and can only take HDMI, the other is a larger computer screen and has both VGA and HDMI connections). How can I do this?

The article you cited refers to The Mac Pro, a 50lb silver tower -- not a notebook computer.
    Everymac.com says:
    2nd Display Support:
    Dual/Mirroring*
    2nd Max. Resolution:
    2560x1600 (x2*)
    Details:
*This model supports a simultaneous maximum resolution up to 2560x1600 on two external displays via Thunderbolt. Alternately, it can support a single display up to 2560x1600 via Thunderbolt and a single display up to 1920x1200 via HDMI. Although it can theoretically power all three external displays, as confirmed by a helpful reader, it runs too hot with three displays connected.
Also see: How many external displays can the Retina Display MacBook Pro models support? What is the maximum supported resolution of each? Are adapters required?
When using other than ThunderBolt displays, the ThunderBolt port is directly compatible with Mini DisplayPort, and can be forced into compatibility (with Single-Link DVI or HDMI up to 1920 wide) with a simple adapter.
To adapt to wider displays, an ACTIVE Dual-Link adapter is needed, about US$100.

  • How to save a photo to my computer screen as wallpaper

How to save a photo in my iphoto library as wallpaper on my computer screen?

In addition to FoxFifth's recommendation, you can also copy the link location, or copy the image, and subsequently paste into another application. In some instances (e.g. openclipart.com), one can drag/drop images into local application documents. Exceptions are images that were created with Adobe Flash, HTML/CSS, or blocked from access by the site owner.
Just because you can copy an image from another location, does not automatically grant you the ownership, or use rights to that image on creative works of your own (e.g. blog).

  • Who do I trust, my TV or my computer screen???

I have a final cut of a film shot in HD. The colors look good when I watch the film on my computer screen (didn't have money to color correct but did something color correction with Final Cut and it looks pretty good).
The problem is: when I burn a dvd with dvd studio pro (it looks good on it too, from the computer screen) and then watch the dvd on my TV screen the colors are too bright and even the grain of the film is different, it doesn't look as good.
On different TVs it looks different. Now, I know you can change the color settings on a TV but where do I go about trusting one or the other? How should I base my decision in terms of color for my film? What if I want to screen the movie in a theater?
    Please help!!!
    Thanks much!!

The reality is that we start with grade-certified monitors and use broadcast standards. COLOR is designed from the ground up to comply with CCIR Recommendations for SD and HD through an SDI-Video I/O card such as Kona3 by AJA or Blackmagic Extreme. Grade monitors vary in price and capability, but are invariably only natively accurate with SDI inputs, although there are some clever devices on the market that allow some flexibility with internal intervention. I own and operate an eCinema DCM-23 --original cost was around $14000.
There are some Flanders models that are now down around $5-6K. Not necessarily for hobbyists.
The alternative is to force a non-qualified monitor of some type into a "close-enough" mode with extensive calibration and specific tools. There are examples of people getting reasonable results with DVI and an eye-One calibration tool. However, it requires vigilance, as this grade of monitors usually don't hold their settings for very long, and can display variable behavior with different types of media, picture levels, and operation time.
It is not a simple problem and no magic solutions without a price tag.
