TV Episode Description Missing in iTunes 12

Pretty much what it says... the new interface doesn't provide episode descriptions. Why remove that feature?
Also, now have to scroll through several seasons to get to the latest one instead of just clicking the season I want at the top of the show. Why change that?
Why does it seem like every new release since Steve Jobs died the software interfaces get worse?

I'm lost. I see episode descriptions just fine. All I did was go to the iTunes Store, search on "Glee", and I found the various seasons. I then opened Season 6 and see this (which includes each episode description):

• My older podcast episodes are missing on iTunes.

Just noticed last week that my nine oldest podcast episodes are no longer on itunes. They're alive and well on my blog page so I'm nor sure what happened. Did I reach some magical quota on iTunes? I have no clue how to resubmit or do any of that stuff. Thanks for any help!

iTunes imposes no limit (at least up to 300). Many podcast creation programs or services limit the number of episodes in the feed, removing older ones when this limit is reached. There is usually a setting to increase this number.
However there might be other reasons; but it's not really possible to comment unless you would like to publish the URLs of both your feed and the Store page - this latter can be found by control-clicking on the podcast image (or where it should be) - and choosing 'Copy link'. Please include the http:// in both cases to make the links clickable.

• ITunes not showing Date, Time or Episode Description??

Hello
I recorded my Podcast through GB Exported to Disk>Desktop> Then I used Rapidweaver I guess to publish it. but when iTunes receives the Podcast for some reason Date, Time and Episode Description is missing. should I use Feedburner instead. newbie thanks in advance.

I am having the same problem, did you have get this issue resolved?

• ITunes Episode Description not showing on iPad

I've made a series of short videos to show as episodes of a TV show in iTunes but the episode description that I've put into iTunes does not show on the iPad once sync'd.
I have also got a TV series that I bought from the iTunes store and on this, the description does show on the iPad.
I can't see what's different between the two scenarios - does anyone have any ideas what's going on?
Thanks

The descriptions you see on your iOS device cannot be edited from iTunes. You need a metadata editor in order to edit those.
I personaly use Metax (http://www.kerstetter.net/index.php/projects/software/metax)

• Itunes won't display my episode descriptions

Hey,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm pretty new at this. I just submitted my first podcast to itunes and the listing won't display me episode descriptions. Would someone be so kind as to check my RSS file?
The URL of the RSS file is
www.indigoimp.com/poweredbysatan/pbscomedypodcast.xml
The itunes listing is
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=123048064&s=143 441
and the line that may be giving me trouble (but which looks ok to me) is..
<itunes:summary>All a man really needs in life is sex, beef, sleep, and a big stick to wack things with. In this epsiode the artist explains why beautiiful women must bring beef. Episode includes his beloved song "You Must Give Me Beef"</itunes:summary>
Thanks in advance!

Chemholio, welcome to the discussions!
Your <itunes:summary> tag looks fine, and if it's in the
tag, will appear as the podcast description.
If it's in the
tag, it will display when someone clicks the circled "i". That's where you have it.
If you want it to appear under the "Description" column for episodes, then you must use the <itunes:subtitle> tag.
Check the example at
http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html
Hope this is helpful.

• Podcast episode description not showing up in iTunes

Hi
I've got just an audio version of my podcast and as I wanted a bit more flexibility and statistics I started using Feedburner for the audio version. The only bad thing that I've found is that the individual episode description is just the description of the podcast itself. Have you got any suggestions what am I doing wrong or how to fix it?
iTunes Store link to the podcast - http://itunes.apple.com/ee/podcast/id415167798
Original Podcast RSS - http://AppleSpotAudio.blip.tv/rss/itunes/
And the Feedburner RSS that goes to iTunes - http://feeds.feedburner.com/Ounahelid
BTW! I know that the last episode (no. 40) does not have a description in the Feedburner feed but does have a description in the original podcast RSS. That does not make a difference as I wanted to see what happens when theres no description at all. I latter updated the original feed to have the description but either the changes have not taken effect in Feedburner or they just wont update it.

You've fallen over a bug in the Store. According to Apple's Podcast Tech Specs page the 'Description' column in the Store page shows the contents of the 'itunes:subtitle' tag - the text you want is correctly shown in this tag and in the 'description' tag (which iTunes doesn't read but other readers do).
However, despite what they say, the 'Description' column actually shows the contents of the 'itunes:summary' tag (also seen by clicking on the 'i' button) which in your case is the same for every episode. So to get this to work you will need to amend this tag.
On subscribing the 'Decscription' column correctly shows the 'itunes:subtitle' tag. However you should look at this; you have used character codes for your accented characters and iTunes will not render these - it's showing the actual codes which looks messy. I don't know how you can work round this to get it to show the correct characters. If they are available on by the use of modifier keys you might be able to just type them in, and then it might show them - or it might not: it depends on whether the characters are covered by UTF-8. You've managed to achieve this with your title - Õunasaade.

• Wordpress & iTunes Episode Description

Hello,
iTunes seems to take the wordpress blog entry as the content for it's episode description.
My blog entry does not come out looking very good as the iTunes episode description; simply because it contains text and links that are of no use in the iTunes description box.
How can I get the iTunes episode description box (when you click the little 'i') to show other, more suitable text - and how to get it to stop showing things like '&#8216' all over the place.
It would seem strange to have to simplify my important blog entry just so the iTunes description looks nice.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
ps. I'm using Wordpress 2.2, iTunes 7.2, and I've got my feed going through Feedburner.
iBook G4 12.1 Mac OS X (10.3.7)

Thanks for responding.
Where would I make that change? Is 'Optional Excerpt' in iTunes, Wordpress or Feedburner, and how to get it to pick that field up instead of the main blog text?
Thanks again for responding.

• Free tv episodes missing from iTunes on iPod

I used to download free tv episodes and features from iTunes on my iPod. But ever since ios 6 I can't find that category anywhere. It appears at the bottom of iTunes on an iPad but not on my iPod. Anyone know where I can find it?

In order for those shows to show up in your library you may need to download them, from that purchased page that you described. At some point either they disappeared from your computer or were moved and itunes can't find them anymore. It may take a while, since there seem to be a lot of them, may make sense to do that overnight for few nights.

• Why are descriptions missing from my tv downloads now?

In the past 2-3 weeks my downloads from season passes are no longer including the episode descriptions. This is occurring on multiple season passes. I am not aware of having made any choices which would keep these from being included. Is this a widespread issue? Is there a fix? Thanks!

Hi,
A lot of people are reporting this problem, including me. Do not bother to re-download, I did and it didn't help. As a matter of fact, the Season Pass(es) I'm having problems with, some had descriptions, but when the iTunes Store reflagged ALL the episodes, instead of just the two that were missing descriptions, the descriptions I did have disappeared. I noticed that anything downloaded before 10/4/2012 was OK. What was different on October 4? Apple released a "supplemental update" for those using 10.7 and 10.8. I don't know it to be the cause, but on my system THAT is the only change that occurred. Strange coincidence.
All I can suggest is that you keep at Apple and iTunes; its their fault, not yours. You should get what you paid for.
Good luck.

• Can I change the image, name & product description on the iTunes page?

Hi there,
I recently started a new podcast, Jazz Now! Seattle. When I first entered it I used a logo that has now been change. I have also reworked the title. And the description on the iTunes page has a "/" in it that shouldn't be there. You can see it all here:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/jazz-now-seattle/id389101248
Can I change these things?
Thanks!
Jason

As you are using WordPress you will need to change things there: if you were to edit the feed itself it would simply be overwritten the next time you added something. If you change the title and remove the slash in the appropriate places in Wordpress and republish then iTunes will pick up the changes - possibly it may not do so until you add a new audio episode.
As to the image, simply point Wordpress to the new image (with a different name, don't just create a new image with the same name) and again this will update, though it will probably take some days.

• Time and description missing

I've been posting podcasts for a while now successfully, and all of the sudden, the time and description of my podcasts will not display. can you please explain why? this is the code that displays:

My Podcast

Description.

<itunes:author>Me</itunes:author>
<itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit>
<itunes:duration>2:06</itunes:duration>

this is the code that doesn't display time or description:

My title

My description.

<itunes:author>Me</itunes:author>
<itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit>
<itunes:duration>1:28</itunes:duration>

thank you!

I checked further into the specs and the absence of the hours isn't significant.
When subscribing, everything appears correctly. Your feed is lacking the 'itunes:subtitle' and 'itunes:summary' tags which should contain the descriptions and info: iTunes is managing to draw the information from the 'title' and 'description' tags in each episode.
However in the Store page, only episode 9 shows a duration and a description: I can't see any reason why this should be as the code isn't any different from the other episodes. Have you modified the feed coding recently (this seems doubtful for over 300 episodes) - the Store could just not have updated. Otherwise I can see no reason for this, though you might want to start using the itunes tags I mentioned. This page gives a basic sample feed so you can see what I'm talking about:

• Editing Podcast EPISODE description.

I'm using iWeb to publish podcasts. How do i get individual episode descriptions to publish?
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/working-gratitude-real-people./id569249288
The overall Podcast despcription is there. Where does iTunes look for the individual episode despcription?

The 'Description' column is populated from the 'itunes:subtitle' tag, and the text when you click the 'i' button at the right-hand end of the entry from the 'itunes:summary' tag. This page shows where the various tags' contents appear:
http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/itunestags.html
However at present there seems to be a bug in the system: many people's Description columns are turning up empty even though they are correct in the feed.

• My podcast episodes went missing

Hi there,
I started my podcast on Jan. 9th. I've had 6 episodes go live so far, including one that went out this morning. The address to my show is here; https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/gay-business-marketing-made/id590805999
Today when I went in all of my episodes are missing. I don't know why or how it happened. They are still working on my website and they're all still hosted correctly.
Does anyone know why this would happen and how I can get them back up?
Thanks!
Jenn

iTunes is using the feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/gaybusinessandmarketing
This feed has no 'enclosure' tags containing the URLs of playable media: iTunes does not display episodes which have no playable media. Since you had it working you've evidently done something wrong in WordPress which has stopped it being a proper podcast feed; or possibly you've managed to point Feedburner at the wrong feed - the blog feed rather than the podcast feed. There is no clue in your web page as to the feed - the only link is to http://feeds.feedburner.com/JennTGrace which appears to be identical and again has no 'enclosure' tags.
I'm afraid I can't advise on WordPress - you will need to work out what it was you did originally.

• Episode description shows up in all web and desktop clients but not iOS 7 podcast app

I'm a podcast producer, and I've encountered a weird problem with episode descriptions. Namely, they are not showing up in the podcast app for iOS 7. (I have not had the opportunity to check phones other than my own.)
Browsing this forum, it seems like other people have reported similar problems, but they all came down to feed metadata problems, which were preventing episode descriptions from showing up anywhere on iTunes. While it's certainly possible that something is wrong with my feed metadata, what's weird is that episode descriptions show up just fine in iTunes, or if I look at my iTunes URL in a web browser. It's just on iOS that there's a problem. And yes, I do know that you have to be subscribed and tap the little 'i' - that just takes me to a page with my episode's length, data size (almost always very incorrect) and no description.
Anyone have any ideas?
For reference, here is my feed URL:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/toafn
And here we are on the iTunes store:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-once-and-future-nerd/id711119555
Thanks guys.

You are using feedburner - and with it you have it tracking stats - turn that off.
That is known to cause issues - especially with iOS devices.
In your feedburner settings.
under - Analyze and then "Configure Stats" - make sure all items are deselected.
And then under - Optimize - and then "smartcast" make sure "include itunes podcasting elements" is also NOT selected.
That should take care of issues people are seeing.

When opening iTunes on my new Windows 7 PC I continue to get the same messages, 'The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is missing' and 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Error 7 (Windows error 126)' I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times to no avail, even tried it on a different user account and still nothing. I recently installed Panda Internet Security 2012 (about 12 days ago), initially iTunes worked fine as usual but within the last few days I've been unable to open it with the same messages appearing. I've read through some of these pages and tried everything that's been advised, uninstalling and reinstalling while internet and laptop security is swithched off, downloading tools to completely remove anything related to iTunes, tried it in Safe Mode, nothing has worked. I've also noticed that in the start menu when I click on iTunes, it says '(empty)' where it should have the logo and ability to start the program, does this mean it doesn't download + install properly each time I've tried? Any help would be enormously appreciated.
