TV episodes marked as movies

As a bit of background, I have two drives one with my media on and the other with a backup of said media. The backup is simply a copy which uses the modified date to determine if a newer version needs to be copied. The problem I have is that when I add a tv episode file to iTunes, it is automatically classed as a movie and I must manually set it to a TV episode. If I remove and re-add the file, it is once again marked as a movie and must be changed again.
This is more of an annoyance but the real problem is that when changing it, iTunes accesses the file and, although it is still identical, the modified date is changed. Obviously when I had to re-add all 1TB of series it was annoying that I had to wait 24 hours for it to be backed up again. Is this typical behaviour and is there a way to stop it? If I make the files read only, I am unable to change it from movie to TV episode.

I just tried changing the video kind through a visual basic script (a VBS file), and it turns out that this also messes with the original video file, as you described in your original post. There was a chance that changing the video kind through scripting may have left the original video file untouched, but alas it doesn't. I even tried restoring file attributes after changing the video kind, and some of those attributes are read-only (through both iTunes.Application as well as Scripting.FileSystemObject).
A long winded way of saying, I can't help.

  • Many podcast episodes marked as saved

I am getting many episodes marked as saved, despite never manually downloading episodes and never manually marking episodes as saved. I have to manually reset them to unsaved before they files will get deleted.
In my personally idea scenario there would be no such thing as marking episodes saved since I have no use for that feature. Barring that, is there any way to prevent episodes from being automatically marked as saved?

I'm having the same issue. I've never marked any podcasts as saved, yet I always seem to have a number of them that are marked as saved, so I have to manually unmark them. iTunes and iPhone podcasts are still not syncing either, and I keep my phone connected via USB most of the time unless I'm listening to podcasts while driving. It would be REALLY nice if iTunes would be smart enough to know what I've already listened to, whether via iTunes itself or my iPhone, and sync accordingly.  How many more years do we have to wait for this long standing issue to finally be fixed?  And there is the issue of the new version of iTunes and the way it now displays podcasts.  ugh.  So annoying to constantly have to see podcasts displayed that I've already listened to even when I specifically have show only unplayed marked. The "episodes will be deleted 24 hours after they have been played" rule is not working.

  • Mark to Move in 3.1?

Does Numbers 3.1 have the same "Mark to Move" feature as 2.3?  I need to move a set of formulas from one place to another and I'm only able to cut/paste the result, not the formula.  Please help!

    Same table.
In Numbers 2.3 you would  highlight a cell or a range of cells and select "Mark for Move" from the Edit menu.  Then you would click on the location you wanted to put them and select "Move".  The cells with their formulas would move to the new location and there would not be any broken cells with #REF! in them.
In Numbers 3.1, there doesn't appear to be a "Mark for Move" feature.  There are "Paste", "Paste and Match Style", and "Paste Formula Results" options in the Edit menu.  The "Paste" and "Paste and Match Style" feature gives me a #REF! error while the "Paste Formula Results" gives me the result without the formula.

  • FYI - 5D Mark II movies on iPad

    Hi all...
Just thought I'd provide a tip to getting your Canon 5D Mark II movie files (the files as they were recorded straight off the camera) onto your iPad as quickly (and hopefully painlessly) as possible.
    1. Do as normal and offload the files onto your Mac (this may work with PC too, but I'm 100% Mac now, sorry PC!)
    2. Get a recent nightly build of Handbrake (post 0.94 release).
    3. In Handbrake, I created a new setting called iPad, based off of the existing High setting. I changed the resolution to max dimension of 1024 (no point in creating larger than necessary files).
    4. Select the directory where you imported all of your camera movie files by clicking Source.
    5. Handbrake will chug along for a while, scanning that directory, and every movie file in it. It may take a couple of minutes.
    6. Once it's done, you can now queue up each file very quickly by selecting the title from the drop down below the source button. Just make sure your iPad setting is selected in the panel on the right. (it shouldn't change as you select each movie).
    7. Go make a cup of your favorite brew, sit back, and relax - this will take a lot longer than step 5. (I do this processing overnight usually).
    8. When done, import the newly created files into iTunes.
    9. Plug in your iPad, and under the Movies tab, select your movies.
    10. Sync.
    11. Enjoy!
If for some reason this is a duplicate of another post here, please forgive me and merge this thread with that one (or just disregard this thread). Good luck, and please follow up here with any corrections / refinements!

  • Where is the "Mark for Move" command in Numbers iOS?

In Numbers for iOS running on a iPad 2. I have a sum total of a column in one table on one sheet and need to create an alias or active copy of it in another table on another sheet. How do I do that? In Numbers '09 you can use the "mark for move." Move the sum total to the new location and then just duplicate it again.

Ah, Delete key!  That's easier. All these years of going to the contextual menu for 'Clear Contents' in Excel.
But now I know the Delete key in Excel does the exact same thing as in Numbers.  Thanks.

  • TV Episodes Appearing Under Movies

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, TV episodes I've ripped from DVDs I own that I add to iTunes have been appearing in the movies category of Front Row. It is driving me bananas, because I have a lot of media in my library, and I enjoyed accessing it with the Apple remote through Front Row, but I totally can't do that anymore since everything's a big mess.
I've sorted the files correctly in iTunes--I know how to do that--so why can't Front Row sort them the same way iTunes has? Is anyone else having this problem? It is completely baffling me.

I have the exact same problem! Even with Leopard (all versions of 10.5.x), Front Row never worked properly for sorting shows. iTunes would list the TV shows properly by Season/Episode, yet, FR would list the seasons out of order such as 5,3,4,1,2 but not for EVERY TV show, just some. Standard reverse order would be acceptable to me as it would put the most recent episode higher in the list but it just seemed random as not all the mis-sorted shows followed the same pattern.
I am now using Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and iTunes 9.0.1 and all the TV shows are listed in BOTH the TV Shows AND Movie sections of FR (Version 2.2 (313)). This is an absolute MESS!! Apple should detail exactly how FR sorts using the iTunes tagging system so we can make adjustments. Or, better yet, Apple should just fix this long-standing embarrassment. Additionally, iTunes should support editing of extended tags such as movie ratings, why should I be forced to use an addition program like MetaX (very good software, BTW)??

  • QT 7.6 undocumented: Canon 5D Mark II movies

Before you install QT 7.6 read the full post at ProLost
    http://prolost.blogspot.com/
+Apple released Quicktime 7.6 today, which "includes changes that increase reliability, improve compatibility and enhance security." Sweet. Undocumentedly, it also changes how Quicktime movies made with the Canon 5D Mark II are decoded—for the better.+
    +*image on site+
+Above is the same 5D clip I wrote about yesterday, back in Color, with Grade Disabled. The clipping is gone. Unlike yesterday, now the waveform is contained entirely between zero and 100 IRE. You'll see this as well in *Final Cut* and any applications that use Quicktime to decode the 5D movies, such as *After Effects*.+
    +*image on site+
+Yay! Problem solved, I guess. This is a scary thing for Apple not to document in an update though, because it will radically change the appearance any 5D clips you're already working with. So update with caution, especially if you're in the middle of a project.+

    Thanks for posting the link!
    Good news all round then!

  • What does err= -50 mean?  It is occurring while downloading TV episodes and renting movies in iTunes.

I am receiving "err= -50" in iTunes while trying to download TV episodes and movie rentals from iTunes.  The downloads stop and will not resume.  Any advice?

Unfortunately it isn't a very meaningful error in terms of diagnosing the issue.
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-31161.html
Error code -50 is a generic code meaning there's some sort of communication difficulty.
There's many computers and connections between you and those movies, and between your network box and where they are on your computer.
You could try a few general things such as rebooting the computer, or trying the download later.   Are these going to an external drive?

  • Canon 5D Mark II .mov file corrupt Need help

I have one file captured during a video session that I cannot copy, edit without locking the entire computer and having to hard start the machine. I need this file to finish editing a job. All the other files from this session work flawlessly with this one exception. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cant cut, paste, delete, save as, export, any function without crashing. When I try to export or save as it stops at a certain point and freezes the maching. Export not responding, save as not responding. Then I have to restart

It is because your 5D Mark II files are sRAW images, not raw. (The full 5D Mark II raw files are usually over 20 MB, not ~8 MB.) When you process sRAW files into DNG files, the DNG files are stored in the "linear DNG" format, which is much bigger than the sRAW format.
p.s., these questions should be directed to the Camera Raw, Lightroom, or DNG forums in the future to get a faster reply.

  • Marking "goods movement completed" automatically during iw41 in PM

    Hi all,
    I have a problem during iw41.
I asign material/components in component tab in order, and use t-code IW41 for confirmation, in this I confirm operation then click on goods movement icon, "completed" field is getting ticked automatically in this goods movement screen.
So when I change the amount of component to a lower quantity than planned quantity and come back and save, it is recorded as completed goods movement. But I don't want this goods movement with missing amount to be ticked as completed goods movement because it is recorded in tables as completed also.
Please kindly let me know how can I avoid this ticked automatically.
    Thanks and Regards
    Damlasu

As the component has been mentioned as Backflush in component tab of the order, Completed check box is selected in Goods movement screen.
Implicit meaning is that as it has been mentioned as Backflush, no more qty is required. I guess, there is no config to change this. Only using user exit or manually, we need to remove the tick.

  • Removing or creating first tempo marker resets movie start

This is an interesting one (or not depending on your point of view):
If I have a session with multiple tempo markers and I remove the first one, whether or not it's at bar 1 or bar 21, it resets the "Movie Start" in Settings:Video...
I haven't figured out if there's a pattern to what it resets to but it's repeatable on this end at least. It does not occur if you remove any other tempo change except the first one. The project time, and all other SMPTE times on all other markers remain correct. Audio locked to a specific SMPTE point stays right where it should. When I re-enter the "Movie Start" all is restored and plays in sync.
I'm in Logic 8.0.2 running the following plugs: Omnisphere, Kontakt Player 2, PLAY, Zebra, Sound Toys, Altiverb, Waves Renaissance Maxx, Lots of EXS, and miscellaneous other NI plugs.
Video is DV format, 29.97, output through a Canopus ADVC-100. But the problem occurred even without the Canopus attached.

    Thanks for the confirmation.
I posted the question over at LogicProHelp before but didn't get any response. I know it is a little bit deep to get into it but it relates to two things that are not so esoteric after all:
    1) What's the deal with the first Tempo node anyway. I couldn't find any reasonable explanation about it, especially nothing about the fact that it is somehow linked to the bar entry in the Synchronization window.
    2) The whole interconnection when working to video "bar-SMPTE-MovieStart-SMPTEoffset-Tempo" is very complex but a lot of Logic user deal with that every day with different levels of understanding. I 'm just surprised that that topic is not discussed more often in detail.
    BTW
I can recommend the new tutorial video by Steve Horelick at MacProVideo.com about "Logic's Music -for-Picture Toolbox"

  • Mark/Tag/Move ? Files not in a album

i have a project under which I try to make different albums which take photos from the project, is there a way/script to know which photos/videos in a project are not a part of any album ?

Yes. Bring up the Filter HUD and add the Rule "+Aperture Metadata+" and set it to "+Album Name+" is "Empty".
You could create a Smart Folder and use it as a template (duplicate as needed as add to Project) or you could drag it where you need it and reset its range (from Library to Project).

  • Podcasts & Movies - No 'blue dot' for marking as new

Now that I've updated to 7.6, whenever I mark a movie or podcast as new again, using the contextual menu, the blue dot doesn't show back up next to the title.
The 'blue dot' works though for my TV Shows. It's just movies and podcasts that the blue dot doesn't show up.
    Any ideas anyone?

Yeah. I've repaired permissions both manually and by my monthly Cocktail run, but it still does it. I have downloaded a few 3rd party apps but it's hard to say which ones I've downloaded recently coincide with the problems I've been having. I don't rule that possibility out - thanks for the suggestion.
I wonder if it has something to do with my recent purchase of a new iPod Touch (32gb) though. I've been putting a lot more video in my iTunes since I bought the iPod so that I can watch them and iTunes hasn't been liking that at all. In fact, when I try to open a video (TV Show) in iTunes it's a 50/50 shot that it will freeze my whole computer. Sometimes it does, and sometimes iTunes just pauses for about 10sec before starting to play the video.
The videos sync and play beautifully on the iPod but iTunes doesn't like them at all. Could this have something to do with it?
