TV Episodes to a DVD.

Hello,
I have some TV episodes on my MacBook that I downloaded from that iTunes store that I would like to burn to a DVD so that I can watch it with my DVD player. I was wondering if this is possible, and if it is, how can I do this?
Thanks!

Use the video adapter to connect the macbook to the TV and watch them on the TV. What you cannot do is make DVD's from copy protected TV shows you bought.

This will let you play from the mac to the TV. The make a DVD for just me part sounds dubious but I am cynical.

    Short answer: you can't
    Due to the protection, video content cannot be burned on CD/DVD except on Data CD/DVD for backup.
    The iTunes Store - Terms of Service say:
    "You shall be entitled to export, burn (if applicable) or copy Products solely for personal, noncommercial use. You shall not be entitled to burn Video Products."

    I am making multiple DVD's of roughly 50 hours of footage on DVD Studio pro with 4 separate menus for 4 different 'parts' or series if you will. 50 hours - 20 episodes - 4 parts of 5 episodes each. What are my options in terms of burning these parts on to separate DVD's, what is the process, what size DVD RW should I buy, what bitrate should I use, and what quality I should expect for the burn. Any advice or insight is welcome.

    >>What are my options in terms of burning these parts on to separate DVD's<<
    20 episodes totaling 50 hours equals about 2.5 hours per episode assuming all episodes have the same duration.  Fitting 2.5 hours onto one single layer DVD would require a low bit rate which means quality wouldn't be anywhere near best, but that's a judgement call you'll have to make based on several factors.  For example; if there is not much motion in the video (talking heads, etc), you can get by with a lower bit rate and may not notice any quality difference.
    >>what is the process>>
    The process is essentially the same as it is when authoring a regular DVD with 2 hours or less of content.  However, with as many discs as you'd need to complete this "set," you'll need to create a separate DVD Studio Project for each disc.  Basically, you'd use one of Compressor's DVD Presets (or customize a preset) to create an MPEG--2 video file (.m2v) and a Dolby Digital audio file (.AC3).  Import both of those assets into your DVD Studio Pro project for authoring and burning.
    If you want to keep one episode per disc, DVD Studio Pro does have a 150 minute preset or you could use dual-layer discs with a higher bit rate for better quality.  Again; your call.
    >>what size DVD RW should I buy<<
    Size?  12cm.  Capacity?  Single layer, single sided DVD discs (DVD-5) have a rated capacity of 4.7Gb (4.37Gb actual), including menus.  If you use single layer discs and want to keep the quality reasonably good, you'd need at least 50 discs to complete this "set" with each disc holding roughly 2 hours of footage if you keep the menu on each disc simple.  Or, you could use dual-layer discs (DVD-9) which have a capacity of about 7.95Gb - almost doubling the recordable capacity.  There are also dual-sided, dual-layer discs available (DVD-18) but they are relatively expensive and have to be manually turned over to continue playback ... but they do have roughly 15.9Gb capacity.
    >>what bitrate should I use, and what quality I should expect for the burn<<
    Exactly; the quality is dependent on the bit rate chosen, as well as the quality of the compression.  Using compression markers where needed can greatly increase the quality of playback but will most likely increase the file size of the compressed video.  For the best quality, keeping the bit rate  as high as possible allowed under the DVD specification will yield the best quality but some DVD players may choke if the bit rate is too high.  For best quality I typically aim for a bit rate around 7.6 to 8.0Mbps but that will only allow about one hour of footage.
    Naturally, if you decrease the bit rate, you can fit more footage onto the disc but quality will be sacraficed.   Here's a chart approximating DVD bit rates and durations for single layer discs (does not include space for menus):
    3.5Mbps - 120 minutes
    5.0Mbps -   95 minutes
    6.0Mbps -   82 minutes
    7.6Mbps -   65 minutes
    8.0Mbps -   60 minutes

  • Burning episodes to DVD

    I am trying to burn some tv episodes to a DVD and I want to be able to view this in a DVD player other then my computer. How do I do this?

    You can't. You can burn the TV Shows to a Data CD/DVD for b/u purposes.
    As the files have DRM you can only play them on hardware that can be 'authorized'.

  • Extracting episodes off of a DVD sperately?

    I swear the LAST DVD on iPod POST.
    ok, so i know how to get DVD movies on tom my iPod 5G. But when u are extracting a DVD, (ex. Family Guy Season 2), is there a way to get each episode seperately, so you can choose which episode you want to watch?

    Depends on the software you are using for the extraction process. DVDBackup, for instance, extract only at the VOB level. HandBrake does try to segment the material but may or may not be able to correctly make such distinctions. Forty-TwoDVD-VXPlus can extract at chapter level and as such is my choice for the extraction of, say, individual Doctor Who, Avenger, etc. episodes from a DVD.

  • Ripping DVD with multi episodes

    Been using the new Splasm to rip Dvds I own and transer to my 60 ipod. The first episodes on each DVD rip just fine but that is all...
    For instance....ripping Deadwood with multiple episodes only gives me the first episode of each....
    Can you help?

    If you do not have a SuperDrive (DVD-R/RW) then that's what you'll need to buy.
    Being able to burn a DVD is contingent on the hardware installed in the computer, not on DiskUtility or other software.
    What you have from SystemProfiler matches the ComboDrive (CD Read/Write, DVD Read-only) from mine. A drive capable of writing DVDs would show it in SystemProfiler.

  • DVD with Multiple Episodes

    I have a number of DVDs of TV Series that have multiple episodes on each DVD. The problem is that when I transfer the DVD to iTunes, I am asked to overwrite the existing file. To avoid the problem, I can change the name of the file being uploaded to iTunes by adding a more specific title but iTunes does not recognize any file name change. Consequently, I have 10 videos in iTunes all with the same title even though the name of the source file was renamed before being uploaded. Is there any way to deal with this?

  • DVD from TV Series

    I recently acquired a few television series from a friend. They are currently on my desktop and I would like to burn them to disk to save hard drive space. I first tried dragging them onto the drop zone of the CREATE A DVD portion of iDVD. This isn't working because, while the size of the files fit, the length of time is too much. In addition, when I open iDVD, MAGIC IDVD, the movies are not listed under the MOVIES tab, but they are listed in the Movies folder in Finder. What can I do with iDVD either in CREATE A DVD or MAGIC IDVD to be able to burn several episodes to one DVD disk. I'm a new Mac user so please be simple with the steps to accomplish this, since I'm still learning.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forums!
    DVDs are not concerned with file size, only total length, which is 2 hours (including up to 15 minutes of menus etc) for a single layer DVD.
    However, it is against the terms of use of these forums to discuss the copying of copyright material, which a TV series certainly is.
    So I am unable to help you further.

  • DVD Player Quit

    I attempted to play the DVD "Star Wars Episode II", and DVD Player quit with a message "encountered a system error -47".
    According to Apple article 9805, this was a "File is busy" error.
    I ejected the DVD and it was able to play normally after reinsertion and restarting DVD Player.

  • Going from DVD to iMovie

    Ok, so my friends and I like to make music video with different cartoons we watch, but unfortunatly I can only use their computers because I don't have a way to put the DVD files into iMovie format. So if there is a freeware program that allows me to take the episodes from my DVDs to my iMovie program, please tell me. By the way I am working with iMovie 4 if that makes any difference.

    Bengt gave you all info, but you asked for "freeware", so here's the pricelist:
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * free, if you have it allready...: Toast6/7 allows converting to dv/import dvd, hit apple-k
    * FREE!! connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and copy to tape/use as converter
    but as said, none of these advices override copy protection....

  • DVD transfer to NANO

    I just bought my NANO. I had no problem transfering my music, as I owned a shuffle before, but how do I transfer some movies/TV episodes from my DVD collection to my nano? Or is that not possible? Am I only allowed to download DVDs from the internet to the NANO? I'm not very technically savvy, so if it's possible to transfer from the DVDs, please be very specific. Thanks so much!

  • Dvd burning programs?? help me!

    i burn alot of dvd's for my pregnant wife and she wanted a few seasons of seinfeld. she is very weird but thats what they want. i have burn and visual hub but i want to put a few episodes on a dvd-r so she can watch it on her portable dvd player. the program "burn" gives me a hard time all the time and i didnt try to make a dvd with 3 or 4 episodes yet. only 1 movie per dvd. is there any program that i can burn 3 or 4 episodes to 1 dvd? im going to try using visual hub in a minute. thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

    Digital copies are a relatively new thing, they come as part of the package on some more recent films. Basically you buy the DVD to view at home and you get a copy optimised for use on mobile devices as well. I've never run across one myself and I'm not sure what the exact process is whether they come on the disk when you buy it and it can be transferred to you computer or you get an access number so that you can download them. Whichever way it's done they aren't a separate item.

  • DVD on TV?

    Just a quick question I can't seem to find an answer for....
    If I download a SEASON or Movie from iTunes, can it be burned and then played on a regular DVD player/TV? Like when you download music and burn discs for the car.
    Thanks

    As noted in StarDeb's post it is the content providers/copy right holders that are controlling the right to play and copy. The terms of use are also clear.
    Even purchasing the actual DVD's would only gain you the ability to play the episodes on any DVD instead of just 'authorized' hardware. You still cannot copy the physical DVD legally.

  • How do I burn dvds? (explanation inside)

    Ok the main computer (my computer) does not have a dvd burner on it. So therefore I cannot burn my television episodes off my ipod (which I need to because my Ipod is almost full with t.v. shows and music). My dad's laptop does have a dvd burner. I went ahead and downloaded itunes onto his computer, hooked up my ipod, and went to burn. It said create a playlist so I did but it did that under my ipod. So I couldn't burn it. So I tried creating one in the playlist section, but it wouldn't let me move anything into the playlist section from my ipod.
    So my question is..how do I burn these episodes onto a dvd? I'm kinda stumped here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Ok. I transferred everything onto my computer/dad's computer from my Ipod. Now I have everything on the computer. I have switched over the preferences for burning to data dvd/dvd. When I go to burn it says that I'm going to burn a data dvd that only works on computers. I don't want that. I want one that will work on my t.v. It says on the site that movies cannot be burned to play onto dvd players..but this is television shows..so it should be ok. So how do I get it to burn a dvd to actually play in my dvd player??
