TV isn't picking up VGA signal?

I just purchased a display port and i connected it to my tv.
How do I get it on my TV now?
Before on my PC i would just connct it ot my Samsung LCD and it would pick it up and I would change to PC from my HDMI source.
I guess my TV is not picking up the signal, what do i do?

is this the right way?
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Depending on the resolution of your TV v. Computer, the image will be changed a little on the TV (usually w/black bars on the side).
When I connect to a very old projector, I have a good deal of black bar on the sides b/c the resolution of the project cannot exactly mirror the 1280X1200 (i think) default resolution of the MB

  • Does Mini Displayport to DVI adapter support analog VGA signal?

I'm just about to buy a macbook pro. Since the MDP (mini displayport) to DVI and MDP to VGA adapters are £20 a pop, I can only afford to get one. Obviously DVI is better in general, but VGA supports more older hardware, CRTs, and the spare VGA input on one of my displays (where the desktop uses the DVI).
What I'd like to know is does the MDP to DVI adapter also support the analog VGA signal on certain pins (like most physical desktop DVI ports do)? If it does, since I have about 3 or 4 DVI to VGA adapters lying around, I can get the MDP to DVI adapter and use the DVI to VGA adapters with it if necessary, but if it doesn't I might be better off getting the MDP to VGA...

No. Unlike DVI, which in the DVI-I configuration has both digital and analog pinouts, DisplayPort (and mini-DisplayPort) are purely digital. Mini-DP to DVI then DVI to VGA will not work. If you look carefully at the Apple Mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter, you'll notice it's a DVI-D connector - digital pins only.
The Apple mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter contains a digital-to-analog converter.
So, you'll have to choose. If you want VGA, get Apple's mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter.

  • VGA signal output type mDP-VGA adapter

    Howdy.
Working on a way to plug our new mini (early 09) into a crusty ol' analogue tv, whose best quality input is up to 576p component. Tv manual say to plug component source (either YPbPr, YCbCr or Y B-Y R-Y) into the component input on the tv (Y Pb Pr).
My understanding of signal types is limited, and I am looking at a VGA to component converter as my first preference option since svideo and composite are so crusty.
Can anyone be really specific on the exact type of signal output from the miniDP-VGA adapter? As far as I know, most computers output a vga signal referred to as RGB, which SOME tvs can read via component in. Can anyone tell me if this RGB equates to any of the above signals (such that i could simply use a vga-component cable that I already possess), or if i will definitely need to get a converter box? I have plugged my older mac mini into the tv (using dvi-vga adapter supplied and then vga-component cable i purchased form some dodgy online ebayer) and had no luck.
can anyone tell me the potential ramifications of messing around with this stuff? Can inputting incorrect signals damage any of my hardware?
does anyone have any brilliant ideas on how to run an early 2009 mac mini into a tv via component? At this stage it is going to cost me around $200 for a decent converter box , and being a younger generation I want a solution ASAP and would prefer not to wait weeks for shipping from the States.
It seems as though the new minis only do dvi-d, while my older one has dvi-i - this is why the dvi-video adapter is not compatible with the early 09 models. i have spoken to apple tech support several times but it seems as though they are getting their dvi types mixed up and don't understand my predicament fully, as their suggestions are not possible with dvi-d. Is there such a thing as a DVI-d to DVI-I adapter? Would it make any difference?
Any clarification people have to offer on this one would be greatly appreciated.

A few comments; first off, you can't damage a TV with wrong signal types, although some old TVs can be damaged from wrong timings. That's going to depend a lot on the TV's age whether it has a more modern, multi-sync type chassis or not.
The Mini DVI output on the new mini is DVI-I. That is how it is able to support the Mini DVI to VGA Adapter that Apple sells for the new mini. But you are right it no longer supports the Mini DVI to Video Adapter. But that is an issue with drivers and has nothing to do with the mini having a DVI-I output or not. But it is definitely Mini DVI-I.
So to connect a component converter box, you could use either the Mini DisplayPort or the Mini DVI output of the mini. I would tend to recommend the Mini DVI as being somewhat more standard. However, a Mac really wants to see something called a plug-and-display driver, which is also known as EDID, whenever it is connected to a display. So try and see if you can find a component video converter having a VGA input that has an EDID loaded into it or else the Mac will not be happy and it could all be money down the drain that would have better been spent on a new TV.
Hopefully you will get some more specific information from someone else. Good luck.

My Radio on my Nano won't pick up a signal.. I cennected my headphones and am in the middle of the city, so there are plenty of stations to find. Also my iPod keeps pausing every like 30 seconds when I try to listen to my music. I just got it for Christmas and already loaded it with songs.. What do I do?

Push the headphone jack all the way in, you don't have it fully plugged in yet.

  • How can I set up a new network on my apple tv when my remote app isn't picking it up because they aren't on the same network?

How can I set up a new network on my apple tv when my remote app isn't picking it up because they aren't on the same network? The actual remote doesn't work anymore, so I've been using the remote app on my phone but now that our internet changed, I can't do anything at all. Please help!

You can't use the remote app to setup a network. If your physical remote isn't working you will need borrow another or purchase a replacement.

Can you ping one of google's IP addresses? for ex. 72.14.207.99   If you can you may want to check /etc/resolv.conf and see if your DNS IP is entered correctly.

  • Vga signal booster

can you buy a vga signal booster to allow the mac mini to work on any crt monitor?

It seems to me it would be better and make sense to just buy a computer that actually worked right out of the box without needing a VGA signal booster. Wait until next week to see what new stuff Apple releases at Macworld.

  • Ipad vga signal levels

3 out of 5 attempts to present Keynote (and other video enabled apps) presentations have failed. After some investigation I discovered that the failed talks (ipad could not drive video projector - iapd couldn't find project, and projector couldn't find ipad) were result of long cable lengths between projector and VGA connector that I plugged into dock-to-VGA adapter. These were 50' long cables in conference centers. I rustled up some more standard length cables after these very embarrassing failed attempts to give public presentations, and with shorter cables everything worked properly. I should also mentioned that numerous MacBook, MacBookPro and PC-types laptops all had no problem whatsoever driving VGA through a 50' cable.
Anyone else experience this problem? It makes it impossible to trust the iPad as a conference presentation device if iPad video signal levels are too low. Perhaps I have a defective iPad, or is this a systematic problem?
If I have to buy a VGA signal booster to carry along with an iPad, its absurd since these devices are nearly the size of the iPad itself!

I am not sure of what the official limit is, but a google search brought up 50' as the "practical" limit. Another site said 9 meters. I have seen some long vga cables in various conference rooms.
You may have an iPad with a reduced output. You could either try another ipad, if you know of one available, or take your ipad to the Apple store and see if an expert can test the output strength.

  • Is it possible to force the Macbook to output a VGA signal without EDID

Im an audio visual integrator and I'm constantly running into this issue that if the mac doesn't have EDID present it will not output VGA signal. Quite often we will convert VGA inputs to just RGBHV (or 5BNC) to run to a display or projector. Normally this works fine with most laptops but unfortunately not macs. I've used things like EDID minders in the past to get around this issue but I'm hoping there might be a way to get around this on the software side.

No, the video card cannot be exchanged - you have a pretty decent GPU there; not sure why you'd want to switch it out. You can upgrade the RAM to a maximum of 16GBs. Apple recommends upgrading in matching pairs, so I don't really think I'd try 4GB and 8GB stick.
Both Crucial and OWC have memory available for the new Macs. Both are reputable dealers and know Macs well and I would only buy from these sources (and I would buy Crucial, were it me).
Although your Mac didn't come with a users manual outlining the installation of the additional RAM, you can download the late 2011 model users guide as the models themselves are almost identical.
Good luck - write back with any questions.

  • Sudden no DVI/VGA signal

    Pavilion p6210y. Stock, nothing fancy.
Over a year ago my power supply exploded abut I replaced it with a Norwood Micro 350W I found in a  free box. It worked just fine, we used the computer for about 6 months then set it aside because we got a laptop. The other week I started it again and it worked fine for about 30 minutes then the monitor shows me no DVI/VGA signal and go to sleep. The computer is still running. I let it rest for a day and then started it again and the same thing happened. Power supply? Motherboard?
    Thanks!,
    Joe, Mpls

    Hi Joe,
Your PC might be full of dust and then overheating.
    Try this procedure:
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any.  You might want to buy a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the CPU heat sink.  Plug your PC back in and give it a go.

  • Airport card not picking up any signals after IP configuration changed

Just had cable internet installed in my apartment, and in the course of setting up the IP configuration for the built-in ethernet connection, my airport card has stopped recognizing wireless networks in my building. Before I changed these settings, the card was working, and there are several networks in the building that it recognized. Now, it recognizes none. The menu appears in the top bar, and I can turn the airport on and off, but it simply is not picking up any signals whatsoever.
I have tried a handful of tactics, including changing the Airport TCP/IP configuration in several different ways, rebooting several times, and even removing and reinserting the Airport card.
For info: I'm using an iBook G3 with OS 10.2.8. (I know, pretty old, but it's still chugging along...)
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure. What's strange is that the very same computer was picking up signals (not accessing them b/c they were all password protected), recognizing networks in the area at least, before I played with the other IP configuration settings. Now it picks up none. It shows that there are none in the area, even though I know that there are.
Also, often, when I click on the Airport icon in the menu bar, the computer hangs for up to a minute before the menu actually pops up.
I have an Airport Express unit that I have hooked up to the cable modem, and my Airport card won't even recognize that signal. I'm just not sure what I changed that made it go haywire. I've been using this computer on wireless networks for the entire time I've owned it. Never had this problem before yesterday.
Thanks for any additional suggestions anyone can offer.
