TV not recognizing MDP to VGA adapter

Hi,
I'm new to Macs and just bought my first about a week ago.  I tried to hook up my TV to my computer using the MDP to VGA adapter.  When I plug in the adapter the screen goes blue for a second just like it does when I hook it up with HDMI, but it doesn't go to the display.  My TV says nothing is connected and in the System Preferences, it says nothing about having a second monitor and there is no "Arrangement" tab under the diaplys.  Thanks!

Problem solved. I picked up the MDP to VGA adapter and was able to use the monitors native res of 1920x1200 but the flicker and wavyness made it impossible to use. And yes the adapter had the current firmware. But what I discovered in the process was that in mirror mode I am unable to drive the monitor at optimum resolution. With that in mind I tried the MDP to HDMI adapter again, unchecking mirror mode, moving the Finder bar to the external display and SHAZAM. I have a rock solid display external display now running at 1920x1200 : )

  • Thunderbolt and MDP to VGA Adapter Compatibility Issue?

    Hi Veterans,
I know this topic have been asked a lot of times by different people who faced the issue in different way. However, i am unable to find an absolute solution to the problem i am facing currently.
My question is, can a 3rd party made, Mini Display Port to VGA adapter works on MBP & iMac that have mini display port and not on those that have thunderbolt port??
I have a 3rd party made, Mini Display Port to VGA adapter that i have tried on 3 apple PC / laptop,
A MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) which comes with Mini DispayPort, the adapter work with this laptop.
A iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) which comes with Mini Display Port, the adapter work with this PC too.
A MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) which comes with Thunderbolt port, the adapter does not work with this laptop. I have tried many solutions i can find on this forum and none helped.
The software is fully up-to-date as of 30 April 2013, running Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion).
Tried safe mode, does not helped.
Tried the boot up when monitor is already switched on procedure, does not helped.
In all cases, it was tested on the same external monitor. As my MBP was dual-booted using Bootcamp assistant 4.0, i also tried in windows-mode (windows 7) which didn't work too. In windows mode, the screen just keeps flickering while in mac-mode i get a light blue screen. In both cases, the external monitor shows nothing. The external monitor is a Compaq FP7317 monitor with native resolution 1280 x 1024 at 75.0 Hz.
All these trying have leave me very perplexed. From my research, the thunderbolt port is suppose to accept devices meant for mini display port. So how could an adapter that work on mini display ports, not work on a thunderbolt port? Can any expert enlighten me?

  • Ipad2 gives me ""accessory is not supported" message w/ VGA adapter that I used lots of times before. Now it's not working. Why? and how do I get it back to normal functioning?

Ipad2 gives me ""accessory is not supported" message w/ VGA adapter that I used lots of times before. Now it's not working. Why? and how do I get it back to normal functioning?
I used the (Apple branded) VGA adapter lots of times last year. Now I got back to one place I used it many times and it does not work. When I restart iPad with the adapter connected, I get the "accessory is not supported"message. But that same accessory WAS supported before.
This is very annoying as I planned a whole bunch of presentations starting this week to do with my iPad2 and that adapter.

I received the same error message, "Accessory Not Supported"  from both the VGA and DV video adapters I purchased, both were boxed direct from Apple. However, to bypass this problem I  simply clicked on Photos icon on iPad2 and flipped through photos until it displayed on my projector.  I then exited the Photos app and my home screen displayed fine on the projection screen.
Some logic issue with the video adapters, but launching Apple Photo app initializes the video adapters then they work fine for mirroring after that.
    Platform: iPad2
    IOS: 5.1.1
    Best regards!

  • Thoroughly confused about supported resolutions using MDP to VGA adapter

I've read many posts on the topic and I still have no idea what is correct. Some people claim the max res for this adapter is 1600x1200 while others claim they are getting 1920x1200 with it. I have a 24" HP LCD that has VGA and HDMI as the input choices. HDMI limits the res to 1920x1080. Will this adapter run the HP @ 1920x1200 (native resolution) or will it limit it to 1600x1200 ? BTW this is being used on a late 2008 unibody MacBook. Thanks

  • I'm running V10.6.8 and the system is not recognizing a San Disc adapter that I plug into the side of the keyboard. This always worked in the past. Whats changed?

I'm running V10.6.8 and the system is not recognizing the presence of a San Disc (SDHC) adapter that I plug into the left side of the keyboard. This always worked in the past. Whats changed? I can't upload my images to a folder.

Another item I'd found when getting an SD card for an older camera was the lack of backward support from the SD card if it was too new, while a newer camera can sometimes use an older SD card at a slower read-write speed. There are limits and ceilings on what kind of card works with old/new stuff.
So I ended up taking a nice SD card back to one store and had to settle on a 'walmart kinda dubious kingston two pack a cure' for the older Panasonic Lumix. Smaller capacity but seems to work OK for the era. I don't trust kingston with macs, but this 10 y/o Lumix seems to not care about that.
Hopefully you can obtain the correct cards, because some stores only sell parts for their inventory of cameras. And some adapters are limited too.
Depending on what I'm doing with the card and the camera it goes with, I attach the camera to the computer and not just the card in a reader. That way I can file items inside the camera SD card in a way the camera won't overwrite them. Later when I save everything from the card into an external hard disk drive, all my filed folders of images by date (I created in the SD) appear in order, in the later archive. Easier too, when I burn to DVD or CD media, to create yet another archive away from the computer or the camera.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My Mid 2012 13" Macbook Pro is not charging and not recognizing the A/C adapter.  Is there anything I can do?

The light on the A/C adapter does not turn on when I plug it into the macbook pro.  I tried resetting the SMC, but the Macbook Pro still does not recognize the charger.  Is the charging port broken? Is there anything I can do to fix it before finally taking it in to the Genius Bar? I have also tried using multiple chargers so I know there is no problem with the charger.  Will it cost a lot as my macbook is three months out of warranty?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have got a different charger, try plugging it to the Mac and see if it charges. Also, check that your charger (the one you have got now) light appears in orange or green when you plug it in. If it doesn't turn on, it's possible that the charger is not working correctly.
I recommend you to take the Mac and the charger to an Apple Store or reseller. If the problem is the charger, the repair will be cheap, but if the problem is the logic board or the battery connector, it may be expensive

  • Thunderport to vga adapter worked and now does not

Just bought a new external monitor.  Also purchased thunderbolt(mdp) to vga adapter.
It worked the first time I hooked it up.  was able to mirror and extended with no problems.
Then I powered everything down and unhooked to test a 2nd monitor.
Have not been able to get it to work again since.
Just tried to reset PRAM and still not working.
    ideas?

N Oh how I love the beauty of forums! Fantastic. So you know the fix went for my issue here, I had already upgraded the zen/jukebox driver to version 2.0 to no avail, and did not get the play for sure firmware as it says all data will be lost, but I did upgrade with the other option on the support downloads section before as well to no avail. Thanks to?GuyGraham, after I installed the app update for Creative ZEN and NOMAD Jukebox Plugin 5.00.22 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer it works once again!! I just do not see how this file isn't included with the media source 5 application in the first place. Either or thanks a lot you guys, problem sovled!

  • MiniDisplayPort-VGA adapter (bug?)

    Hello,
I just bought a new MacMini (model last 2009)
I connected trough original Apple miniDisplayPort-VGA adapter to a FullHD-Projektor.
when I play HD-movies bought in iTunes store,
iTunes or Front-row tell me i must connect a HDCP capable Display
(via Analog VGA, that make no sense for me)
I know, that digital output of HD-Movies must be protected via HDCP, (but not analog).
The miniDisplayPort-Adaper was correct recognized in the System-Profiler
with the old MacMini I dont had this problem (with DVI -> VGA Adapter connected)
is there a solution for that? (I think this is a bug?!)
    (sorry for my english)

HDCP typically does not work through analog connections, only digital.
You can remove the "typically" qualifier from this statement. HDCP is strictly a digital-only initiative.
HDCP bans compliant products from converting HDCP-restricted content to full-resolution analog form...
Dave, do you have a citation for that comment? It's different from everything I know about HDCP. In fact the consortium of industry, studios and other content producers specifically left analog out of the discussion. AFAIK there is no restriction for, say, a component video enabled device to send full definition HD content out the component video port, even though the content may be protected by HDCP were it to be transmitted digitally. In fact, AppleTV stands as an example of that. It will pass anything purchased from the iTMS out its component output at full definition.
What I think this points to, though I'm only guessing because Apple doesn't tell us such things, is that the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter does not itself possess the ability to provide a KSV, meaning it can't do the HDCP "secret handshake." Hence the DisplayPort on the mini is prevented from outputting any digital HD content to that adapter lest it be intercepted in its unencrypted digital form as it passes from the mini to the adapter.
To the OP, if you instead use the Apple Mini DVI to VGA adapter as Dah-veed suggests, I think you will find things to be working as expected. With this adapter, digital video need never leave the mini's case. The same is not true of the Apple MDP to VGA Adapter because the D-to-A conversion happens within the adapter and outside the confines of the mini's case. That could be the difference.
You should also try Dah-veed's suggestion of updating the FW in the adapter you already have on the chance that it is supposed to be HDCP compliant and that it isn't working right.

  • Why won't any Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter work with my 2012 13" MacBook Pro?

    Hello!
A few month ago, I purchased a new 2012 13" MacBook Pro. I quickly realised that my non-Apple MDP to VGA adapter was not working, but put off the problem as it wasn't neccesary -- and I thught that the adapter was to blame. However, after using the adapter sold by Apple, I can asafely say that the problem is with my computer. In review on the product, several 2012 MacBook Pro users mention this. I was hoping someone here would be able to point me towards a solution! Thank you.

I tried the Apple miniDisplayport to VGA in a Thunderbolt MBP and iMac and they both worked. Same for the Apple miniDIsplayport to DVI.

  • Using mini-DVI to VGA adapter to Samsung display

I have 2009 late model of mac mini, The text on display looks washed out, not clear or sharp at all from day one, I thought it was the old model of monitor, tried the same cable to another monitor on another computer, SAME. so I thought the problem could be the cable or adapter.
It's hard for me to believe is the signal from computer. I'm using VGA adapter made by Dynex bought from Best Buy.
    Anybody has suggestions?? Thanks

Yeah, My old Samsung is lcd synmaster 17", bought many years ago at around $1000. Crazy, crazy price looked back. It's fine when I used it on the retired old Dell. It must be the adapter, trying not to buy another VGA adapter, could not image my next lcd will use one, anyway.
This cable has only 14 pins vs 15 pins on the other cable, not sure if it matters?? Or if Safari has anything to do with it??
    Thank for you reply...

  • Part number for DVI to VGA adapter

I have a MA206LL/A 1.66 MHz Intel duo Mac Mini. The previous owner did not include the DVI VGA adapter. I am using a DVI VGA adapter from a PC. The colors on the VGA monitor are hazy, washed out, and the letters are fuzzy. I went to the Apple store to buy a DVI VGA adapter and they were not sure of the part. I called the online Apple Store and sales again was unsure and switched me to Support. They also were confused and asked me what I thought the part number might be. I understand that the Mac Mini needs a special adapter due to the DVI connecter size. Does anyone know what the correct part number is or a source for a non-Apple DVI to VGA adapter?

The Apple Store has the functional equivalent for $19. See here:

  • IPad DocumentsToGo and Dock conector to VGA-Adapter

    Hi there,
I just bought an iPad two weeks ago and last week the VGA Adapter. The clear intention was to show some PowerPoint slides with the iPad using a projector. I tried using the iPad with a Samsung 23" LCD-Monitor at home before. It worked fine, unfortunately I did tried only with the picture slideshow. The next day in the office I made a complete fool out of me by trying to show my PowerPoint slides with the projector & the iPad. For that I had bought "Documents to Go" (14.99 €) and - not to mention - the VGA-adapter (29.99 €). Let's say round about 60 US$ to get humiliated in front of your boss and your colleagues. It was not really helpful to show them my last Holiday pictures, at least not the purpose of the meeting.
Is there a way to connect the iPad to a projector to show business related stuff (PowerPoint, Excel, Word & co.?) I mean, more than pictures & videos?
    Thanks in advance...

  • VGA Adapter Flickers or not recognized

I have an iPad 3 / iPad with Retina Display and have purchased the official VGA adapter. When I connect the screen is mirrored (or extended in Keynote) but the image flickers and the image is not clear at all.
Is there any way to adjust the resolution or output or configure anything?
I have tried restarting the iPad with the VGA connected and monitor but then I get a message that this device is not supported and the monitor stays black.
    Thank you

I have attached this to a 24 inch monitor using iPad 3 6.0.   The screen remains blank.  I have never gotten an image since purchasing the adapter.
    Does anyone have any answers?

  • I have a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, then I purchased 3 VGA adapters: a VGA to HDMI, VGA to Component, and VGA to RCA. When I hook them up to my TV (I've tried multiple TVs) they do not detect a display, even when I click Detect Displays.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a solution for this?  The only other Mini DP I found was a HDMI connection.  I want to make sure I can connect to not only TV's via HDMI, Component or RCA, but also projectors (some of which may be older requiring a Component or RCA connection).
    I'm using this Mini DisplayPort:

These are the VGA Adapters I'm using:
    VGA to HDMI:

    VGA to Component:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P3Q0YW
    VGA to RCA:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Y7T5UU
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

None of the three lower adapters pictured in your post will do you any good with your MBP.
    1. The VGA-HDMI adapter does the reverse of what you want: it yields VGA output from HDMI input. The opposite is not possible; a VGA input does not contain all the information necessary to create an HDMI output. You'll have to get a direct mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter instead.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/Moshi_Mini_DisplayPort_to_HDMI_Adapt er?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
    2. VGA-Component: Lots of posters here when the MDP-equipped MBs and MBPs first came out tried adapters like this one with no success. What does work with the MDP (and a VGA adapter) is a converter box like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Startech-Component-YPbPr-Video-Converter/dp/B000G6Y0S6
    3. VGA-Composite: This doesn't work with MBPs either. For Composite or S-Video output, you need a converter box like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/PC-To-TV-Video-Converter/dp/B001CJOLBW/ref=pd_cp_e_2
    or this:
    http://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/High-Resolution-PC-VGA-to-TV-Convert er-with-Remote-Control~VGA2NTSCPRO
These converter boxes will work fine in combination with your Apple MDP-VGA adapter.
