• Boot Camp and Vista SP1

Hi. I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard and Vista. Is it safe to install Vista SP1 in Boot Camp 2.0? I haven't heard of too many issues, but just making sure it wasn't going to break anything. Thanks.

I'm having the exact issues as webcat, but I'm on an iMac 2.8 (early 2008) ATI video & 4GB using 10.5.4/5.
The BC util worked fine through partitioning (32GB) and Vista-SP1 (Ultimate) install, and the the OS-X CD-1 driver update - but once in Vista the stated symptoms showed up. I had initially ran Windows Update, but no Vista Ultimate updates were found. There was also an attempt to run some Apple software update but the pop-up went away before I had a chance to read it.
I have down loaded the BCUpdateVista32.exe and tried to run that (GUI) a few times, but it always fails with the "Boot Camp UI transform Update has stopped working" error - faulting module listed as ntdll.dll 6.0.6001.18000.
So, where to now is my question? I have seen some hope from the Cmd-Line 'softwareupdate' method, or I can run through the registry and 'purge/change' as deemed needed. The confounding thing is that the BC 2.1 update is a Windows EXE, so I need to work in that environment to get it installed, and I had presumed that with my updated 10.5.4/5 before I started, that BC would have been at the v2.1 level.
It seems I may yet need to burn a CD of drivers and and update the supplied OS-X drivers with the BC 2.1 items - is this possible?
Thanks for any help and direction with this.

• Qosmio G30: Conflict between Sigmatel audio driver and Vista SP1

Hello,
I have a Qosmio G30 PQG32E notebook and can't upgrade to Vista SP1 because the Sigmatel driver (6.10.5462.0) is conflicting with the service pack.
As some of you might know, Sigmatel no longer exists and IDT who bought them is as good as non-existent, saying to contact the OEM directly for updated drivers.
Is there any plan to upgrade the audio driver ?
There are huge memory leaks in my case from the audio driver.
When using Photoshop or Premiere Pro, the audiodg.exe proccess consumes 800MB and more after one hour of continuous work.
I am hoping for an updated more stable driver, and more stability from SP1.
Am I a dreamer?

Have your problems started after SP1 installation? Just for info: at the moment Toshiba does not support SP1. I really believe that you have some troubles and because of that I still wait with SP1 installation.
You are right about Qosmio. It costs a lot of money but using delivered recovery image installation you will not have any problem. About memory and how much resources Vista needs you can read everywhere. Even if you close some application RAM will still be occupied with different information. If you start the same application again you will see that application starts second time much faster.
It is Vista!!!
You have really nice notebook and you should upgrade RAM to maximum level. I am pretty the notebook will runs much better and of course faster. For such notebook 2 GB for Vista is really the minimum.

• Remot Control For Digital@nywhere ATSC and Vista Don't Work Together Very Well

I have a Digital@nywhere ATSC tuner card w/remote.
On Windows XP, the remote worked ok. On Windows Vista, the remote works only some of the time.
On Windos XP, the BDA drivers and utilities on the install disk loaded fine. Not so with Vista.
On Vista, the utilities on the install disk seem to load fine, but the BDA drivers fail.
Loading the Vista Digital@nywhere utilities gets the tuner card to work, but has no drivers for the remote. Leaving me to load the utilities from the install disk, and and the BDA drivers from the Vista Digital@nywhere files. A rather tedious process, with the remote only functioning sometimes.
I have tried every trick I can think of to get the remote control and Vista to work together, to no avail. I'm stumped.
I'd rather not go out and buy a new tuner card, when the Digital@nywhere ATSC tuner card works fine on Vista. I'd just like to have a remote control that works fine too. But I don't.
I hope an answer can be found for this problem.
If I haven't been clear enough, just ask, and I'll try to explain things better.
Thanks for any help that anyone can give.

Are you using Media Center in Vista? If so, buy a Media Center remote, should work with no problems.

• MacBook Pro and Vista

Hi all,
Our company develops software for Windows Management in the Enterprise space, and I spend most of my time demoing the software in a VMware environment.
A while ago, someone recommended that I should look at buying a high spec MacBook Pro, and installing Windows Vista and VMware Workstation on it, as the performance will surpass the highest spec PC out there.
I currently run a Dual Core 2.33GHz Dell Precision M90, with 4Gb of RAM and a 512Mb dedicated graphics card.
Due to the Intel chipset, the hardware only sees 3Gb of the 4Gb DDR II memory available.
I spend most of my time within VMware workstation hooked up to a high spec projector (hence the decent graphics card)
Is it true?
Would a MacBook Pro be better?
Specifically, I wouldn't want to run dual boot in a Boot Camp Scenario, as the Mac OS wouldn't be required (I have no apps for this anyway)
Also, I probably wouldn't be interested in VMware Fusion at this stage, as I understand it is not as stable yet as VMware Workstation for the PC.
... it would certainly be funny to demo our Windows Management software on an Apple!!!
Your comments and advice would be much appreciated!

techydude,
"Exclusivist?" No, not at all. And, I do not disagree about the potential for conversion, either.
However, I try to avoid whatever "evangelical" tendencies I might have. Sure, if someone comes here inquiring about OS X, and it seems apparent that they are looking for relief from Windows, I will wax eloquently (well, I'll wax) all day about the advantages of OS X.
I have a rather pragmatic approach, but I also have an eye for "elegance." In either mode, it doesn't make sense to me to purchase an Apple computer, only to run Windows exclusively. Thinking pragmatically, it is a no-brainer that the purchase of a PC with Windows already bundled makes more sense than a Mac which would require the additional cost of a full license for Windows (just for starters). Since neither option would present a savings or price premium, provided one is comparing similarly-configured machines, one must look at the inherent value to the end user represented by each option. If the end user has no intention of running OS X, the Mac immediately loses every bit of its advantage over a PC, value-wise.
And (as I mentioned before), purchasing a Mac just to run Windows is simply not "elegant." In the same vein, I see no reason for someone to own and drive an SUV just because they want to or can. In my book, there's no legitimate reason to burn more fuel than necessary unless one is towing a large trailer (camper, boat, etc.), and the entire concept represented by "Hummers" is abhorrent to me.
If this makes me "Exclusivist," then so be it.

• Acrobat 7.0 Pro and VISTA

Just FYI,
Acrobat 7.0 Pro does not work with Vista. It will continually ask for re-activation even though it is activated the first (and subsequent) times.
This is not a complaint. Acro 7.0 preceded (and was never intended for) Vista. Just thought it would be helpful to have this fact clear (to avoid calling customer support and being told on the SECOND call that this is the case).
Will definitely upgrade to Acro 8 or 9. Acrobat is an invaluable tool.

You may get a few responses. A few have apparently been successful with AA7 and VISTA, but I am not sure of the stability of such installations. You might want to provide a few more details of what you have run into, installation process, and such, so that they might answer. I think your data may be adequate, but if you have more it would help. The upgrade is likely a good idea in any case.

• Using an Osprey 100 card with Acrobat Connect Pro and Vista

Intrigued by a comment I saw on another forum, I tried setting each of the EXE files associated with an Osprey 100 card install in Vista to run in compatability mode for XP SP2, and my Osprey card analog inputs started working (at LAST!!) with Acrobat Connect Pro in Vista. This lets me attach VCRs/DVDs or any device with analog outputs to Acrobat Connect Pro without having to buy a new generation of Osprey or other Vista compatible analog capture cards.
Perhaps this will help someone.

I believe I figured it was somewhere between Flash 5 and Flash 6. I say this because while the resulting presentations could be opened in QuickTime (which only uses Flash 5) a better result would be achieved by viewing in the browser. Either that, or QuickTime's Flash 5 support isn't complete.

• Acrobat Standard X and Vista SP1

Hello..
We are currently looking at packaging Adobe Standard X for approx 3000 Windows Vista machines in our firm.
The problem we have is that Adobe deems it necessary to have Service Pack 2 installed on the machine. We can change the launch condition of the MSI to install even if it doesn't have SP2 on but have no idea what functions wont work. We are currently running 14000 Vista SP1 machines so upgrading to SP2 is a mammoth task.
Does anyone have any information about why it needs Service Pack 2 for Vista, or what features wont work. During brief testing it appears to run OK, but I have only done the basics. I have hunted high and low on Adobe's site but not found much else than the tech specs
Thanks in advance

Hello Greg,
Could you please update to the latest version 11.0.07 and check this issue again?
Cheers,
Deepak

• X-Fi Elite PRO and Vista: dropouts and no sound. Only Changing mode in Audio-Console helps

Hi... Please help me. I have an X-Fi Elite Pro and I am experiencing a very strange problem in Vista 32. Before using Vista, I had no problems at all in XP. Sometimes when I listen to the music (Winamp) and then after listening the music start watching movie, the sound dissappears. I mean the EQ of Winamp freezes and there is no sound at all
!!! Only if I switch audio-console (in Configuration menu) to Games mode (or an other one) and back, the sound comes back... Sometimes it happens, sometimes not. It is very strange. Please, do you know a solution for that?!

In no way a 300W Power Supply has enough power for all your stuff.
2 HDD's, a power-hungry Pentium, a xfi card, dvd burner and many other stuff ...
Problems like this can happen then if your power supply has not enough power to handle all this stuff.
Get a better powersupply that can handle your stuff and I am sure it will work again. In a few cases its also possible that YOU damage your hardware on this way, if it can not get enough stable power, it might mess up your hardware. I also already blowed up a harddisk one day because I have connected too much stuff to one cable. I had 3 HDD's, Mainboard, Lights, Fans and DVD connected to one single cable. All devices there did not get enough power, harddisks made crazy sounds (on/off/on/off very fast) and after that one of my HDDs was bad.
But no ... you can't blame anyone for this. In 99% a bad power supply should not damagae your hardware, it will just make sure it does not work anymore. Since you installed that hardware, YOU are responsible for this. If a hardware-dealer would have to install this card for you, it would be his fault, but now its yours.
BTW: Why do you expect that a 300W suppy is enough!? I mean really ... think about it! See what todays PS can do, take a look how much your pentium already needs ... There are at least 00W gone for your CPU, another 00 for your Videocard and just 00 left for ALLLL the other devices like your harddisks (20-30W each one), DVD, mainboard, soundcard ... In no way this will be enough. You must have missed the last 5 years ...
BTW: I don't think that the software audio console would not work when not having connected the y-power cable. I forget that cable too one time. My console did still work, just in games I got some strange problems a lot of times (no more sound for -2 minutes, crackling and other poroblems) which got solved after I plugged in the power-cable to soundcard.Message Edited by Homey-GER on 0-7-200705:42 AM

• WRT110 and Vista SP1 - additional log on information is required to connect to this network...

Setup WEP 64bit . WinXP SP3 and iPod Touch connect fine but when I select the SSID via Vista it doesn't give the network option. How can I get the network propt option to appear.

"additional log on information is required to connect to this network
You may need to select a certificate or enter a user name and password to connect to this network."

I updated to the lastest firmware with no luck.
Using WRT110 firmware Ver. 1.0.04 (build 10).

toomanydonuts let me clarify again:
-XP SP3 desktop = able to connect.
-iPod Touch = able to connect.
New Vista SP1 laptop = NOT able to connect and DO NOT get a prompt to enter a Network Key. Instead I get:
"additional log on information is required to connect to this network
You may need to select a certificate or enter a user name and password to connect to this network."
here is an example screen shot of the above message (found on another web site).

Then Vista SP1 as me to enter a user name/password/domain. This is a home network.

No prompt for Network Key (on VISTA SP1).
My WRT110 is running the lastest firmware Ver. 1.0.04 (build 10).

• Elite Pro and vista, creative console resets after ever reb

So, I've given up trying to search for the answer and I have no clue how to go about fixing this problem.
If I boot into visata 32 Ultimate, and go and setup my audio console the way I like it then reboot, it will reset itself to defaults when I boot back into windows.
basically its not saving my configuration. Why does this happen and how can I fix this? It doesn't sound the same as the Digital output resetting itself. I have the latest drivers installed on a clean slate...why does this still happen?
its friggen annoying!

yep , i see they are supported, the same is mentioned on the drivers download page,
it states that DTS has been re enabled on devices that supported it on XP when they were originally released.
so i have the elite pro, wich supported dd and dts, and still i get no sound form any dvd in dts or even sound from my PS3 input via optical to the external I/0 of the elite pro.
and i have been told that i would need to buy the dts pack.
why ? when i already paid ?250 for the card that supported it from the moment i bought it ?
dts input support was one of the reasons i bought this card in the first place.
i might as well sell this and use my onboard optical output and buy an amplifier that supports dts, at least then ill know that there are no drivers/support problems
?creative you might make the best sound cards out there but that alone only gets you half way there. us customers we need support and value for our money?
not u trying to rip us off

• Cool stuff to do between Macbook Pro and Vista?

Anybody know any cool things you can do between MBP and Vista?
i can already screen share with YuuGuu and access my PC's C Drive, anything else?

You should be able to do anything you can do if you were running Vista on any other PC.

• Acrobat XI PRO and Vista

Is there a patch to allow Acrobat XI Pro to operate with Windows Vista? I dowloaded the trial version to check compatability (because it is not listed as an OS on specs.) and the program frequently stops working.  I am redacting very sensitive files and do not want to work on the cloud.

No,  the Tech Specs (read Minimum System Requirements) do not include Windows Vista.  While they may add newer OS requirements in later updates, historically I have never seen them include older OS versions after shipping a product with an update.

• BIOS Compatibility between WinXP Pro and Vista Home Premium

I want to install WinXP Pro on my pc.  I have a Desktop 3000 J115, Model 7387-A11 and it came with Vista Home Premium.  I want to make sure that the BIOS can support either OS.  If it cannot, I would like to know how to get the correct BIOS.  I realize that there may be a few BIOS settings that are different between the OS's.
Thanks

This is not a right forum to post this problem. You should post it in Database General Forum.
I've Windows Vista Home Edition 32 bit.
In my laptop it is running but screen resolution changes to basic colour. Due to this, some graphical distortion occurs in few places. Also, refresh in the query grid needs to be perform when you are scrolling SQL Developer data from top to bottom or vice versa.
