TV on the IdeaCentre A600?

I recently purchased an IdeaCentre A600.  I made the purchase because Lenovo was touting the IdeaCentre as a computer and a TV.  But apparently I had a different definition of “TV.”  The biggest disappointment was the total lack of documentation and support for this product.  There is virtually none of either.
I am new to Microsoft Vista, but after a couple of weeks of exploration I found the Microsoft Media Center.  I followed the TV set-up Wizard and actually got a TV signal.  But the picture was about 2 by 3 inches.  When I clicked “Next,” I expected to see a full size image.  But all I got was as error message indicating that there was no “IR hardware” installed.  I had no idea what IR hardware was, but I knew right away it must be important.
I called the vendor’s support first.  They explained that “IR” stood for infrared and that all I needed to do was install the most recent drivers.  It was no surprise that that did not work.
I contacted Lenovo support and after a lengthy discussion, the support person told me that I apparently needed IR cables, which is exactly where I started.  She didn’t know what they were, or what they were for, but I should contact my cable provider and they should be able to help me.  I contacted Comcast support and the support person told me that I could get IR cables anywhere, even Wal-Mart.  She didn’t know what they were, or how they worked, but I should have no trouble finding them.
I feel that I have made no progress here.  It is apparently a problem with a simple solution, but I can’t seem to find anyone who knows what that solution is.  Apparently everyone knows the answer but me and the product support teams.  It is extremely discouraging to deal with a manufacturer that puts a product on the market without any documentation or support.  Tomorrow, I will go to Wal-Mart.  Perhaps they can help.  PS, this web site needs help.

I have a B500, and yes, there's literally no documentation as to how to get the TV working.
Getting the TV working for me was pretty simple. First thing: make sure your drivers are up to date. The driver that shipped on my B500 did not work properly, and I downloaded the "newer" Yuan driver (which appears to Windows as an ATI Card). From there, I was able to just hook the cable from my wall to the computer (I skipped the cable box).
Note, in Windows Media Center, if you have a newer machine, you can get HD channels. However, you have to add the 'Digitial" tuner seperately from the Analog tuner (even though it's the same chip).
From there, you should be able to get TV working.

  • Still curious about the ideacentre Stick?

Last week, we announced the ideacentre Stick, which is a stick computer that you can plug into any TV display and turn it into a Windows PC with 2GB RAM and enough power to browse the web, create documents, etc.
So, what are some best practices when it comes to stick computing? Well, we have some below, check 'em out:
If you're still curious about what our device is, check out our datasheet here: http://news.lenovo.com/images/20034/LenovoideacentreStick300Datasheet_Final.pdf

We had an absolute blast. I don't think I'll ever see a bigger fireworks display. I took a few pictures through our weekend (but not nearly enough to truly show what all we did!)
This was the view from our hotel in Backbay. That water line is where the fireworks were set off.
this is one street over from Newbury st. We were on our way to an improv show and ended up walking all the way to the center of the metro! (not a good idea when the wife was in heels, but we learned our lesson and took the subway whenever the walk was more then 20 minutes)
This was actually shot from the science museum through a window. For reasons.
Waiting for the fireworks. Everyone who had boats were piled up about a quarter mile from the barge. also city lights.
and more city lights (we have a competition at work, this and one other will be my entries!)

  • Any way to get the IdeaCentre Q190 recovery image without paying $60?

    Hi All,
I _just_ got an ideacentre q190.
I was going to dual boot the machine, so I created a recovery flash drive (per the support line's instructions) in case the install went wrong. I did the install and something went wrong (surprise, surprise) and when I tried to use the recovery flash drive, it self-destructed (it tried to recover, but couldn't and then next time i tried to boot off the flash drive it couldn't do that either!)
Now, I have nothing to recover the system from. After 2 hours on the phone, the warranty/hardware department offers to have me ship the entire box in so that they can re-image the drive and the software department says they can only sell me a recovery cd for $59.
Am I the only person that finds this unacceptable? Does anyone just have an image I could download?
    Thanks

    Stephann,
Sorry to hear this... could you send me a private message with some additional information?
Could you share your contact info - name, shipping address and phone, and also the model and serial number from your system and confirm which version of Windows.
Let's see what can be done to help.
    Thanks

  • Is the IdeaCentre K450 compatible with the GTX 970?

By comptabile I mean, of course, will the graphics card fit in the board? Specifically I have the K450, Machine type: 10120, Config number: 57323871.
Or to make it simpler, I have this board: ( http://flash.newegg.com/Product/N82E16883266696?icid=SE_83-266-696 )
Note that's not my exact PC, but the board seems to be exactly the one I have, only some differences (mine came with 12GB instead of 8GB RAM, for example, etc.)
My main concern being the size of the GeForce GTX 970. The lenght shouldn't be an issue since there's plenty of space below the drive bays, but because it's dual width I'm concerned if the card will be in conflict with where the heat sink down there is located. Essentially if the card passes over it, that's fine, but I'm not sure if that heat sink will actually obstruct the card and not allow it to fit in place, That link I posted has images of the mother board and said heat sink. I intend to upgrade the PSU as well (due to the GPU's requirements), but I'm unsure if this card will even fit in there?

  • A600 Won't Wake Up - Help!?

I have an ideacentre a600 that I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate.  Randomly, the computer will just go into sleep/hibernate mode and it won't wake up.  I've tried all the usual methods to wake it up, like moving the mouse or hitting keys on the keyboard and nothing is working.  I even got creative and tried plugging in a wired mouse to see if the USB ports were asleep to no avail.  The only way I can tell the computer is still running is that the touch sensitive controls on the front panel will light up when touched but they don't wake the computer up.  I've adjusted all the settings in the computer including the display and power settings and there is nothing there to indicate it should ever go to sleep.  It probably happens about once out of every 5 times but it is extremely frustrating because the only way to get it working is to do a hard shutdown on the PC by holding the power button down and then booting back up.  Please let me know if anyone else has encountered this or what can be done to fix it.
    Thanks,

  • How to resolve a Lenovo PC that will not pass the Lenovo Splash screen with no access to Windows

Here is my problem and here is the solution!!!
My B540 Ideacentre would not pass the Lenovo splash screen. The only operational keys I had was F1 (BIOS) and F12 (BIOS options). F2 went to a light blue screen so no chance of even a one key recovery. Warrenty had expired four and a half months ago. I contacted Lenovo and after the guy told me to try F2 twice he said it was a HDD or other hardware failure and would cost around £200 maybe and also would take about two weeks.
AT THIS POINT YOU SHOULD NOT BE ANGRY FRUSTRATED OR PANIC. REMAIN CALM AND STOP AND THINK WHAT ACTUALLY WAS HAPPENING WHEN YOU LAST USED YOUR PC.
For me I remembered Windows had auto downloaded 8.1 and was asking me to install. Also my keyboard had lost shift W T Y keys. This told me that it was not a hardware issue but a software issue and perhaps from this update. My HDD was not clicking or beeping and this PC has a 2TB Seagate Barracuda which has a good reputation. Luckly for me I also have a Seagate external expansion 2TB and a 500MB expansion which was the HDD from my old HP Touchsmart which I converted into an external hard drive by buying a HDD enclosure with cooling fan and all leads from eBay for £25 and this is where the solution is.
If you can create an expansion drive so easily and access the HDD then why cant I do it with the HDD from my Ideacentre and of course you can. So first unplug your PC or laptop. Next remove the cover and unclip the HDD (which is easy with the B540. See user instructions). Next I removed my HP HDD from the enclosure and fitted my Ideacentre HDD in its place. Next you need a laptop or another PC. Switch it on and then connect your HDD to the laptop or PC via highspeed USB cable. My laptop is running Windows 7 Ultimate and of course has all the repair tools required. When the software has loaded you may get a box that will have two options. The first will ask you if you want to repair your files and the second to scan for bad sectors and to attempt repair recovery of sectors. Tick both boxes and click start. This is a long slow process but worth the wait. Nine hours later my HDD was ready. I connected my Seagate expansion to my laptop and moved all new files that I had not backed up. So at this point you should create a folder and move all your photos music videos documents etc to it. This can take upto three hours if you have never backed up before and are moving everything. Once completed I shut everything down and replaced the HDD into my Ideacentre. Make sure do not have any external devices connected such as expansions external drives headphones etc. Connect the power and switch on. The Ideacentre booted up and there was a pause at the splash screen then it went to a black screen and then by the miracle of logical thinking I was at my lock screen. I was never so glad to see the map of my home land "Ukraine". After jumping up and down with joy I then went in and all was as normal but to be sure I went into safemode and started a complete restore. This is the option where you completely format your HDD and restore as new. It takes a long time but it is the best option because you do not want this to happen again. When this has completed and you are in Windows do not wait a moment longer by playing with your photos or creating your desktop picture. Go to create a recovery drive (use a 32GB stick) and after that also make a copy to disc. Next go to command prompt (cmd) Admin and change a setting by typing bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy. This will now enable your F8 key to boot straight into safemode just incase you need to in the future. It will slow boot time a little but better to be able to get in to Windows than not at all for the sake of a few seconds.
Well I hope this helps someone out there and I know you may think its a lot to do but it is not. Ask a friend to borrow a laptop or PC and perhaps a HDD encloser. The rest is just time but when you see your lock screen you will not care trust me.
    Cлава Україні!!! Героям слава!!!

I thought this was the method I used before but I followed through it and it was a horrific fail.  "Operating system not found".  Can anyone help?

    Steps To Achieve Victory
Download the ISO you want to use
    Open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities)
Convert .iso to .img using hdiutil:
    hdiutil convert -format UDRW -o /path/to/target.img /path/to/source.iso
Rename if OS X gave it a .dmg ending:
    mv /path/to/target.img.dmg path/to/target.img
Type diskutil to get a list of currently connected devices
Insert USB drive you want to use
Run diskutil again to see what your USB stick gets assigned eg - /dev/disk3
Run diskutil unmountDisk /dev/diskN (where N is the number assigned to your USB stick, in previous example it would be 3)
Run sudo dd if=/path/to/target.img of=/dev/diskN bs=1m (if you get an error, replace bs=1m with bs=1M
Run diskutil eject /dev/diskN and remove your USB stick
The USB stick will now be ready to use

  • How do I get the TV to work on B540?

I have a B540 and would like to enable the TV function, but I cannot find the instructions anywhere.  The model does not have the TV buttons down the side, but the PC label states it has an integrated TV tuner, and there is a UK arial port on the back.  I have read other postings over Avermedia cards etc, but I need to find very basic instructions for what to do.  Do I need to buy and arial?  Then what do I do?  Can anyone help me to set this up?

    hi fionamcmillan,
The Ideacentre B540 that comes with a TV Tuner usually comes with a TV button on the right side, and a remote control (the tv button opens up a TV software where it outputs the tv channels).
    To use the TV Function:
    1. Ensure that you have the TV Tuner driver installed from the Lenovo Website (see device manager > Sound, video and game controllers)
    2. Connect a DVB-T antenna into the TV connector (if you have a digital box, see this guide)
    3. if you don't have the TV button, setup Live TV in Windows Media Center (see this guide)
If you have a remote control, check page 23 of the User Guides for more info
    Hope this helps

I need to attach a second display unit to my Ideacentre B305 All-in-One Desktop PC.
The system does not have any VGA port, but has multple USB ports and a FireWire Port. I have an LCD display unit with a standard 15-pin VGA cable and a DVI Port. Is there a way to connect the unit to the Ideacentre using either the USB or Firewire port?

  • Using the HDMI-In port of the A300

One of the key features of the Ideacentre A300 [57115581] is the HDMI-In / HDMI-Out ports.
First I tried the HDMI-Out port; it worked perfectly - both picture and multi-channel digital audio.
Now I am attempting to use the display in 'TV' mode by selecting the 'HDMI-In' setting on the touch-sensitive display button. PC is not switched On. Connecting an external HDMI DVD player with HDMI cable connected to the HDMI-In port on the A300. But can't get anything on the display; A300 display shows 'No Signal'!
What am I doing wrong? How should the HDMI-In port be used?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi FB, hope your problem was automatically resolved when you rebooted the A300? The display should hv come On in PC mode. Else you can gently touch the same right-most feather-touch sensor (button), on the bottom-right edge of the LCD panel, and keep touching it with your finger tip for 2 secs; the display status will appear on the screen and you will see the current mode highlighted. Again v gently tap the sensor to toggle the display mode thru the other settings -> PC / HDMI-in / LCD-off
PC mode will take you to the regular Windows display; HDMI-in will show you a display if any video source is connected via an HDMI cable to the system's HDMI-in port; and LCD-off will turn-off the LCD panel. HDMI-in can even be viewed without booting-up the system (just keep the input power adapter switched On).
'No Signal' will flash on the screen when (a) display is in PC mode and the system hasn't booted-up; or (b) display is in HDMI-in mode and no video source is connected thru the HDMI-in port.
    I hope this helps.

  • IdeaCentre Q150 BIOS Problem

    Hello,
My company purchased 5 IdeaCentre Q150's to use on a current project.    All are the same configuration (4081-6AU).   We have a custom Windows 7 64-bit image running on each of them.   To take maximum advantage of the systems, we ordered 4GB RAM upgrades for each unit.
4 of the 5 units work just fine with the 4GB RAM upgrades, one unit simply will not post.
Upon further investigation, we found out that the BIOS version on the one unit is older than the rest.
4 units have the following BIOS:
    REV: D7KT14AUS
    Boot Block: D714A
    BIOS Date: 11/17/10
The one unit that will not boot with 4GB of RAM has the following BIOS:
    REV: D7KT12AUS
    Boot Block: D712A
    BIOS Date: 6/03/10
I have searched all over Lenovo's website and the internet for a BIOS update with no luck.   Does anyone know where to find the BIOS update for the IdeaCentre Q150?
I would hate to have to return this unit simply because of an out of date BIOS that could potentially be upgraded.

  • Lenovo Ideacentre Q100 memory upgrage

The compusa website clearly says the Ideacentre Q100 is upgradeable to 2Gb of RAM, but when I installed a 2Gb stick, it still only recognizes 1Gb.  Do i need to change some settings someplace or did Compusa flat out lie?
