TV out - iPod says it's playing on my TV but it's not.

Question

I bought an iPod touch yesterday, and AV Component wires to hook it up to my TV. I used to do this with my regular RCA cables by switching the red and yellow but apparently you can only use Apple's wires for the new ones. But that's neither here nor there...
I've connected everything correctly, and when I went to play a TV show, iPod asked me if I wanted to display on the TV. I hit yes...but switching to HD Colorstream 1 (Component) input on the TV reveals nada. I tried plugging the component wires into Component 2 as well, but neither will recognize the video. No audio either. I know they are in the right spot.
The TV is a Toshiba Regza, and brand new (only about two weeks old) if that makes any different...doubt it.
So why does iPod know it's plugged into a TV, but the TV doesn't know iPod is there?
I am so aggravated. 99% of my iPod use is video-out.

I think I may have solved my own problem.
The dock.
The stupid stupid dock.
I have an iPod Universal Dock that I bought with my 80G iPod (now) Classic that crapped out last week, and was not aware that I had to purchase a different dock for the iPod Touch in order to get video-out. After all, it charges on it, and it has all the outputs. Blergh. I was already at the Apple Store once today to get cables (40 minutes away)...luckily, as soon as I realized this, my dad just happened to be driving by and stopped for me. I talked to the clerk on the phone and made sure I was getting the "Apple" Universal Dock with the rectangular IR window, and not the "iPod" Universal Dock with the circle one. This better fix it, because I'm not ponying up any more money to accessorize it. A $500 purchase has since turned into more like $650 with the new cables and new dock. Plus, I bought a remote separately yesterday because I didn't think I needed the 'new' dock (which comes with remote) and apparently it's not returnable.
Well, I hope this works. I'll find out soon enough.
