TV output to Mac

A bit of an odd one, but I'm interested in getting the output from an TV into a Mac. IOW, it would be rather like running Front Row on the Mac - the difference being that it would be displayed by an app running on the Mac which when using Spaces, could be limited to a particular Space and allow other simultaneous use of the Mac (in other Spaces).
Any thoughts?

No I don't, I need what I'm trying to achieve:-)
Fact is, this setup is in a workshop and I don't want grubby, greasy hands on anything other than a remote that isn't too much of a problem if it gets dirty and/or dropped. But sometimes I HAVE to access the Mac for info (PDF manuals etc) and then I need to clean my hands first, but I don't want to have to do that every time I just need to select some music - a far too frequent occurrence since you cannot just play all the tracks of an artist in track order for each album and the albums in order of the Sort Album field like you can in iTunes. But that's a different problem all together.
I originally thought I would use Front Row, but it hogs the entire machine, so an TV avoids that. I'm just looking to get the best from that setup.
Actually, on second thoughts...
I'm certainly not going to potentially wreck my iPhone in that way, but if I could find a cheap iPod Touch, that might not be a bad idea. Certainly worth further consideration. I think I'll see for how much I could pick up an ipod.

My audio stops outputting after a few songs in a playlist - itunes says its still playing, stopping and starting track recommences audio output.  Mac book Pro Lion 16gb ram.  Can be any song, any time, same song will play if I select it again.  Bit of a bummer itunes is the main thing I use (macbook pro jukebox).

Most likely culprit is your Lacie drives which are notorious for flaky power supplies which cause just the sort of erratic behaviour that you describe. Have had similar issues myself. Lacie has been good about replacing my power converter-- twice. If you have seven of them, good luck finding the bad one or more. Like I said, the behaviour is erratic. Sometimes it'll work sometimes not. I can't comment on Samsung drives because I've never used them and have never heard anything about them. Same with Softraid. Why not just use Disk Utility. Sounds like you're ready for an external hardware raid. This will be much faster, much more reliable, and may even be cheaper than seven firewire drives. Check out G Tech, and Maxx Digital for starters.

  • Standalone Projector won't work on a Mac when output from Mac Flash 8 Pro

Standalone Projector won't work on a Mac when output from Mac Flash 8 Pro
I'm outputting a Mac projector file that will work on my mac computer. However, when I upload it to FTP and download it my mac or another mac, it won't work! What's going on? I've tried adding ".app" to my file and it still won't work. Help!
Here's my set up: Flash 8 Pro on Mac Intel with Mac OS 10.4.11

    Hi,
Does it work if you .zip up the projector and FTP the .zip and then unzip the projector on the other Mac's?  A projector is basically an application.  Applications in Mac's have package contents and resource bundles.  When copying files over the network on Mac's, symbolic links inside the package contents and bundles can get messed up.
    Thanks,

  • DVI to Component Video Output YpBr- Mac Pro NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Card

    Hello-
I am trying to use my Mac Pro as a media machine, but to do this I need to convert the DVI signal to Component video. The video switch I am using is Component only, so that is the reason why I cannot go HDMI.
What is the best solution? Do they make an adapter that will convert? Is there a graphics card issue?
On a sidenote, will the computer be able to operate with two video cards? I was thinking of having one HDMI output to my main television monitor, and having component video going to my switch for the other monitors located around the house.

What about upgrading to this video card?

It will give more graphics performance, but you don't need it for just displaying video. If you do want extra performance, get the ATI Radeon HD 4870

  • Audio output from Mac mini 2009

I have a 2009 Mac mini with mini dvi and mini display port outputs. Just bought an hdmi tv to use as the display. I understand audio is not supported out of the mini DVI, but what about the mini display port? I was thinking of using a mini display port to hdmi cable. Trying to avoid an additional cable for audio.

There are two 2009 Mac mini models, Early 2009 and Late 2009. I can tell you for sure that the Early '09 Mac mini does not have integrated audio from the mini-DIsplayPort. It was my understanding that the Late '09 Mac minis built in 2009 also did not have integrated audio, but those made in early 2010 did. The only way to know for sure would be to test it. Apple reports that some m-DP adapters are not adhering to the VESA standard and even Macs with integrated audio in the m-DP do not with these poorly made adapters. Apple is only recommending the Moshi and Griffin adapters.

    If your mini does not have integrated audio you can get a cool adapter that will solve that issue from Monoprice;

  • Audio Output from Mac Mini 2010

    Hello -
I purchased a mac mini 2010 this weekend for use as a home theater PC. I've got it connected to an Onkyo tx-sr604 a/v receiver via HDMI. I then pass the HDMI signal from the Onkyo to my hdtv, so I think it just passes through. For audio, I use a surround sound system. And, in case it matters, I have a second tv connected via the DVI output on the mini.
The Onkyo indicates that the audio input signal on the HDMI is PCM Multichannel. When I play movies (e.g., Netfix or DVD) or music (e.g., pandora) on the mini, I don't get any sound on the center channel in multi-channel mode. In direct mode, I only get sound in the front left and right speakers. I'd like to have normal surround sound.
Is there not a way to get 5.1 surround sound from the mini? Or, am I missing a set up or something? If I connect my receiver to the mini with the digital audio output, will I then receive digital audio?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Mike it is my understanding that if you want 5.1 Surround sound that you must connect the mini directly to the SS system and not pass the audio signal through another device.

  • The device is in use by another process - error - cannot select Multi Output Device - Mac OSX 10.8.2

    Dear Adobe Users!
    Please help!
I'm using Adobe Audition CS5.5 on a Mac - OSX 10.8.2 (latest version of Mountain Lion) and I'm trying to select a Multi-Output device.
This was working FINE last few days - today, I get an error. I've tried to re-install Adobe Audition and that hasn't fixed the problem. When it first started up it said it couldn't find any audio devices at all.
Please can you help? I'm getting a message saying the device is being used by another process - but it's not being used by anything else at all!
Hope you are able to help! I use the multi output device option so I can record what I can hear. I spent two days trying to sort that out after it all-of-a-sudden didn't work last Thursday.
Now just spent last two hours trying to get Adobe to recognise the Multi Output device - it's been working fine last few days!
Many thanks if you're able to help!
    - Rory

    Durin,
May have sussed it! It seems that Built-in output was the way to have it for Audition CS5.5 to record what I'm hearing! Yes, the multi-device needs to be used - but in another settings.
Here's how I have each section configured and it now works!
First of all, in Audition > Preferences > Audio Hardware:-
Then, on the Mac's OS - System Preferences > Sounds (input settings)
    Then Output settings :-
Then Midi Settings found in Finder > Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI set up
All now seems to be working! I'll let you know if anything further happens!
I was certain I had the output device as Multi Device Output on Adobe before, perhaps it should've been set to Built-in Audio all along. Anyway, I re-installed my Mac from Time Machine, logged in as another user and it worked under that profile, then logged back in as me - and am using the settings in the pics above and all seems to be working!
It's been a long week, perhaps I was just going around in circles and didn't actually test these particular settings yesterday in this order after all.
Thanks again for your help! Sorry if I've caused any confusion!

  • Audio output on Mac Mini Dual Core

The Mac Mini outputs both stedigital 5.1 audio.
MPEG4 video files encoded in H264 AAC 5.1 format do not output any audio when the Mac Mini is connected to a standard stereo amplifier.
Is there a way to force the output to standard Stereo instead of 5.1 digital?
    RV

QuickTime Player and iTunes will really only play stereo without some additional hardware and software. The DVD Player.app and VLC Media Player can play AC-3 surround sound, but if you're not using them, it doesn't matter. You might try VLC. They should all automatically downsample to stereo if you don't have the hardware to play surround sound. I've never used Handbrake, though, maybe I don't understand how it works, but if you're encoding the audio from the DVD to AAC it should play audio whether you've got an AC3 amplifier or not.

  • Audio Output from Mac Pro not working in XP

I'm trying to make the audio line output of the Mac Pro work in XP. the only sound comes from the motherboard or headphones in front of the computer.
Under audio devices say "realtech HD audio device" This is the Apple mac pro?
How do I turn the audio output on?

I think I resolved this! I had the same issues you have been having for a few months. I am actually running Vista. Here is what I did...
    1. While booted to Windows I uninstalled boot camp
    2. Re-installed boot camp from Leopard DVD
    3. Installed boot camp update 2.1 (downloaded from Apple support, i know this is for XP only, but I updated anyway.)
    4. Downloaded the realtek drivers (high definition audio codecs) from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
    5. DO NOT use the Realtek installer to install the drivers...instead extract the contents to a folder.
    6. Go to the device manager, locate the High Definition Audio device and updated the drivers from here (point to the folder where you extracted the drivers).
I now have sound out of the rear jack!! Hope this help someone

  • Optical digital audio output for mac book?

Hello, I am wondering if MacBook pro Retina version has the Optical digital audio output or thunderbolt adapter? so i can use optical cable to do output for my music.

    Hi alece,
    Just to clarify something;
When using an optical cable there are several standards of audio that can pass through the cable:
    S/PDIF - a stereo signal - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spdif
    AC3 or Dolby Digital - up to 5.1 surround - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ac3
Dolby Digital Plus - up to 7.1 surround - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DolbyDigitalPlus
ADAT Optical - up to 8 channels of audio - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADAT_Lightpipe
MADI - up to 64 channels of audio - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MADI
I´m sure other people can add more to the list if they want to, my point is that these signals can pass through the exact same kind of optical cable.
The important bit to know is what does your equipment and software support... in theory your question is quite logical, a software can play 5.1 surround to a optical output like Apple DVD Player does with the built-in sound card of a modern mac. However, Logic does not support live encoding of AC3. That is why you have to output the surround mix in Logic to a sound card with at least 6 channels (5+1 as in 5.1) connected to your speaker system. Typically this would be 5 active studio monitors plus a sub. If you were thinking to use an existing stereo I would not recommend it since most consumer speakers have no limiters to protect them from damage (but may be possible depending on your amplifiers inputs)
I hope this answered your question
    Cheers Espen

  • Setting Output to Mac Speakers

I have a Presonus Firebox (audio/ MIDI interface) hoooked up to a G4 imac. I do not have any speakers aside from the ones on my computer, and those to not plug to my driver. From my attempts so far I have only been able to set the output to my Firebox driver, which is what my input is set to. That makes me have to hear the playback through headphones on the Firebox, or from a guitar amp hooked up to it, which both sound awful.
Could anyone walk me through how to hear the playback sound through the speakers plugged into my iMac while still doing audio and MIDI recordings with my Firebox? I know it's possible in GarageBand, although I'm having the same trouble in Cubase SX.
    Joe

All I had to do was click R on the Channel Strip. I did not set up an Aggregate Device in the Audio MIDI Setup, just selected the Firebox, and experimented between the mac and device options for counting, which didn't seem to do anything. Once it was enabled for recording I could hear my guitar and metronome coming in the headphones and the metronome clicking through the speakers of the keyboard.
An Aggregate Device may not be necessary since there's enough delay through the Firebox when I'm trying to record I'll most likely do most recordings without any monitoring.
Thanks a lot for that little tip.
Now I was wondering, what kind of additional hardware or settings would I need to configure to keep the Audio level under System Proformance from getting too high? I've brought the synth voices down to 5. Anything else I can do? Thanks, again.

  • PRINTING OUTPUT HELP - MAC OS X 10.4.11

Mac os x 10.4.11, HP D2430, for a week now when I print the document comes out in the center and the font size 7, HP shipped me a new printer and the same problem. Page Setup is to US Letter and no matter what the same thing. Please Help

I would suggest that you ask in the Mac OS X 10.4 Printing forum. This forum is for issues with Mac OS X 10.5 Server, and though Brian has been kind enough to try and assist, you'll be more likely to get help if you ask in the most appropriate forum. It's also more considerate of those asking about 10.5 Server if we don't clutter up the forum with inapplicable issues.
    Good luck.

  • CUDA acceleration and Aja Kona LHi output on Mac

Hi,  I hope some of you can answer my question. I'm getting mixed information right now. So can I have CUDA acceleration turned on when outputtin picture through Aja Kona Lhi? Or is it so that CUDA and I/O devices such as Blackmagic/Aja cards don't work together?  Best Tapio

Those Mac Pro's should be fine with the Nvidia cards. The new ones are not approved with them and are not supported according to Apple. It took Blackmagic several months to get the driver worked out to allow the MPE in a Blackmagic project so I am not suprised if AJA is still working on it. I will say that we have not tried the MPE with the Blackmagic on the Mac side. We have many times on the PC side and it works fine as does Matrox.

  • HD output from mac to tv

I can import my HD Videocamera movie into my MACBookpro and edit it with imovie 6 and then "burn" the HD movie back to my video camera. I then use the camera to play beautiful HD on my HDTV using an HDMI cable. However this is a real pain. Is there any way to get my macbook pro to play this HD movie in HD on my HDTV? Playing the movie in iMovie is awful. Sharing the movie to Quicktime is only slightly better. Sharing to DVD is the worst. All are awful compared to the version copied back to my video camera.

Hi there, LightPrism - I'm sorry we missed your question above.
We cannot comment on product plans, but we are aware of the importance of this issue and it remains a priority.
As you may know, SpeedGrade was added quite late in the CS6 development cycle. We greatly appreciate your patience, and welcome all feedback in the meantime!
