I connected a CAT6 cable from my Verizon router to the back of my TV for movie streaming etc, and was really amazed at how fast and consistent the hardwire connection was. I currently have my PS3 connected via wireless and although it does work, it's a bit slower and less reliable. My question is, can I use the same CAT6 Ethernet cable and split it at the end one side to the TV and one side to the PS3 so I can enjoy a more reliable connection when media streaming, etc.? I know I can get a second Ethernet cable but was wondering if it could be done with only one just so I don't have to worry about rewiring, etc.
One of my main goals is to achieve a faster connection on the PS3 so streaming sites give me a better quality picture. I played the same movie from Netflix via PS3 and Sony TV and the hardwire connection did give me better picture quality.
Thanks so much in advanced.
Dave
Buy a 4 port switch and place it at your tv and plug the existing cat six into the switch. Depending on the switch you purchase, you can have as many ports as you wish. I have a 16port 10/100 and a 5 port gigabit switch connected to my router.
2 choices.
1. A second cable from the Verizon router
2. Install an Ethernet switch at your TV.

  • Discoverer 10G Plus Questions

    Hi
We're in the process of upgrading from Discoverer 4 (APPS EUL) to 10G. We're doing away with the Desktop client. Most users will be given access to Discoverer Viewer and other users will be given access to Plus. We have recently upgraded or DEV instance and there are a few "questions" (i.e. gripes) that users have come back to me with:
    1) Do all reports have to be stored on the database to allow them to be accessed by Plus or Viewer? Can only the 10G client version open files from a local hardrive or shared network drive?
    2) Can only one report be open at any given time with Plus or Viewer? In client it is possible to have 2 reports open at the same time to facilitate easier comparisons.
    3) NULL values are still showing the word "NULL" even though in Tools Options we have set it to show blank, existing reports are still using the NULL value.
I'd very much appreciate feedback on any of the 3 points above.
    Thanks.
    Paul.

    Hi paul,
Its a good idea to upgrade from 4i to 10g 4i is no more used by many and their are some issues or bugs with it.The latest version is 11g which has been released 1 week back.If not go with 10g version available.
    1) Do all reports have to be stored on the database to allow them to be accessed by Plus or Viewer? Can only the 10G client version open files from a local hardrive or shared network drive?Yes they have to stored in the database so any ened user can access them from plus or viewer.
Can only one report be open at any given time with Plus or Viewer? In client it is possible to have 2 reports open at the same time to facilitate easier comparisons.Yes,if the reports are registered as different reports and if the end user has access to both the reports thn he can open and compare it OR if both reports are in same workbook as different sheets than its easy to view or compare.
NULL values are still showing the word "NULL" even though in Tools Options we have set it to show blank, existing reports are still using the NULL value. It should show blank, might be some problem. In discoverer 10g i think you will not find this issues.
    Hope this helps you.
    Best Wishes,

  • Itunes plus question - don't know where to turn

    Hi,
I'm really confused on Itunes Plus and what I did with it.
I accepted the option and upgraded everything I had to the Itunes Plus.
Now, in my purchased area are all the songs I upgraded. Do I, physically, have to now move them into all the various folders the songs were already in before Itunes Plus or did that upgrade do it automatically? Can I delete those songs from the purchased area safely without moving them and copying them to my other subcategories on my Ipod?
I'm really lost when it comes to using this forum or getting tech support. I'm a geezer who can work an Ipod and buy/load music. Things like this change to Itunes Plus, confuse me.
I like keeping an empty purchased folder but I don't want to erase these upgrade purchases until I'm sure that they were upgraded on the areas where I already had them on my Ipod.
Also, one more question, does using Itunes Plus mean I can play these songs on another mp3 players besides an Ipod?
Would you please be kind enough to write me directly with your answers?
    Thanks,

It is probably not a good idea to post your e-mail on a public forum.
The purchased is just a list of purchased music. There is no reason to delete it from there or even look in there.
All of the songs should be on your library with all of your other music. I don't know if they are in whatever playlists that you put them in. You can look and see.

  • NX7600GT Diamond Plus Questions

    Hey Everyone,
My questions today are about the  NX7600GT Diamond Plus video card. I am thinking about building a Home Theater PC and I was looking at the MSI 7600GT Diamond Plus card, because of the HDMI port.  Does this port besides carrying video carry sound as well? if so what kind is it, 2 CH, Digital, etc.? If it doesn't any recommends on cards that will carry very good sound quality out?  Also, are there any benefits to having two of these cards instead of one, other then having two 7600 GTs for playing games?  Finally, if I play a DVD on my computer(which is encrypted) and run the HDMI cable from the card to a DVD player/recorder, will I be able to record the movie or will copyright bs problems occur?  Sry for all the noob questions, but I am new to the HTPC arena.
    Thanks

    Hello
I currently own this card and might be able to answer your questions.
This card will send digital S/PDIF sound through the hdmi port if your motherboard or sound card has spdif cababilities.  This can be done one of two ways.  Option A:  If you have an internal header off of your mobo/soundcard you can use the supplied internal spdif cable.  Option B:  If you don't have an internal header (I don't and use this method) you can use the supplied RCA pass-through cable conecting the RCA end to your spdif out and the other end to the VGA.  Aside from being able to SLI them and increase the performance of some programs there is no advantage to having two as you will only be able to use the ports on one.
I'm not entirely sure about being able to copy a movie.  I wasn't aware that there were any DVD recorders with HDMI inputs on the market.  If you have a standard definition DVD (not Blue-ray or HD-DVD) you probably shouldn't run into any copyright problems.  However I've found that many DVDs will refuse to play on my computer if a TV out port is activated, you may or may not run into this with the HDMI port.  This isn't card specific, from talking with tech support this is apparently present on all nvidia 7-series cards.
Overall I was really impressed with how this card handled the digital sound, but was not impressed with the quality of the HDMI video signal.  The signal was being overscanned, and looked horrible in comparison to the analogue signal from my card.  This is really no surprise considering this is the first ever HDMI card.  Theres always going to be bugs at first.  If you're planning on building an HTPC I would suggest using the plain old RGB (15 pin analogue) if your HDTV has the input (most do).  You won't run into any DRM restrictions using this method and the quality difference (versus DVI) is hardly, if at all, noticable on today's HDTVs and projectors.

  • Update on Memory, plus Question

    I have decided to go for 2 x 256mb 400mhz DDR DIMMs, plus 1x 512mb DDR 400mhz.
After reading all of the posts here, I am now more confused than ever.
I'm going to place my order for them on Feb 1st.
What I would like Tiresmoke, or anyone else to  do is to answer two questions.
    Firstly, will this combo work??
Secondly, where to put the new sticks(ie which Dimms).
Finally, the Bios matter...just how is that done??????
If this matter could be answered as soon as possible, I would be really grateful.

The advise already given Memory Upgrade. seems sound.

In the Dram configuration The Memory Timings Auto settings  are read from the spd chip on the memory module. These are the manf recomended settings but sometimes need to be set manually:-
1)Like some corsair brands which need different settings to run on the AMD64
    2) Where modules with different timings are used.

  • K8N Diamond Plus Questions?

I have a some questions about my K8N Diamond Plus. I recently replaced a K8N Neo Nforce 3 board and some other parts as well. The machine has been working very well with this new board so far but there are a few issues I’d like to get resolved.
    1. Does anyone know if there is a new BIOS out for this board? I have that problem where at start up it shows that I have a new card in one of my PCI slots even though I do not….it does’nt seem to hurt the machine at all it’s just annoying….i’m wondering if they released a BIOS that corrected that?
    2. On my old board I overclocked the machine with no problems at all. Now I’m no expert at over clocking but I do like to dable a little and last time I did I had no problems. This board seems like it will over clock well so I went and got better RAM….i just received some Corsair XMS 2GB DDR 400. I went into the Cell Menu to look at the options for the RAM and saw much, much more then I had on my old Neo board.
I know I need to adjust the CAS Latency, RAS# to CAS# delay, Min RAS# Active Time and the Row Precharge Time for this RAM….people have been saying that their motherboards do not detect the correct timings for this RAM (2.5-3-3-6) so you need to adjust it Manually…along with uping the Voltage to 2.7.
My question is…..do I need to worry about any other options under the MCT Timing Mode besides the 4 I mentioned above? Also…I could’nt seem to adjust the Voltage for the RAM? Every time I high lighted it and hit enter nothing would pop up for me to adjust (and it is white not gray like some things are)….is there something I’m missing that I need to shut off in order to access it???
Thanks ahead of time for anyone that can provide me with some answers.

I have not been able to find any information on those other settings.  It is my current project and I am not having a great amount of success.
The defaults for them do not seam to have any adverse effect on stability the system in my signature is my MS-7220 system at FSB=225, CPU multiplier of 12, Memory/FSB =1/1 system is quite stabile if I am not playing with the BIOS settings.
I am working on, some major some minor these current problems.  Watch out for number three it will flat blow your BIOS Parameters.  It happens on my system every time, but I not been able to find any body that is will to trash the BIOS to verify it, so I can be sure it is a real BIOS problem or my system.  “MCP Timing Mode” use to do the same thing, that where the V1.16 BIOS version came form MSI Tech Support sent my that one to fix the problem and this one looks to be the same.
    1.   First boot screen the line “DRAM = 400 MHz, Dual-Channel.” It reads 400 MHz do matter what that actual memory transfer rate actually is.
    2.   Cell Menu parameter “Adjust DDR Voltage (V)”, has two problems (1) the BIOS default voltage is outside the manufacture specification for normal operating range.  BOIS default is 2.65V and manufacture states the Memory Module should be operated between 2.7V minimum and 2.9V maximum.  (2) The voltage cannot be set to the manufactures minimum voltage of 2.7V.  Starting with the BIOS default voltage of 2.65V and you press “+” key once and voltage jumps to 2.75V, press the “-“ key and the voltage jumps back to BIOS default of 2.65V.
    3.   Cell Menu>Memory Configuration>User Config Mode parameter, when set to “Manual” and all of the “User Config Mode” sub-parameters left at BIOS default.  The system will not boot.  When I say will not boot I mean Blank Screen, no beeps, no drive activity, just case and motherboard fans come on.
    4.   Menu “CPU Frequency Configuration”, parameter Adjust CPU VID.   CPU correct voltage tracks the set by about 0.03V high.  Example: if Adjust CPU VID to 1.375V and actual vCore voltage is about 1.405 Volts.  The offset is maintained through the voltage adjustment range of the current CPU.

When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings.  It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it.

  • General iTunes Plus Question

When iTunes Plus initially started, I was under the impression that it was an alternate format for songs that you could buy for a little extra price. Now it seems everything is in iTunes plus at the regular price. Is this true? Is anything with the iTunes plus sign in the DRM-Free format? I have bought some stuff like this and they play in this music game I have, Audiosurf, whereas my older albums won't show up because they are protected. I'm assuming all new albums on the store are in iTunes plus by default, at the regular price, but I just want to make sure, especially since I have a very simple music editing software, Audacity, that cannot edit any song from iTunes period, new or old. I do not so much care about editing songs (especially since I mainly used it to cut out 20 second snippets for ringtones) but it has cast some doubt on the DRM-freeness of the songs. Just hoping for some clarification about this iTunes plus.
Are all albums with the plus sign in the DRM-free format and at the normal price, .99 a song?

Is anything with the iTunes plus sign in the DRM-Free format?
ALL of it is DRM free.
Are all albums with the plus sign in the DRM-free format and at the normal price, .99 a song?
    Most are.
-> Changes Coming to the iTunes Store
"SAN FRANCISCO—January 6, 2009—Apple® today announced several changes to the iTunes® Store (www.itunes.com). Beginning today, all four major music labels—Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, Warner Music Group and EMI, along with thousands of independent labels, are now offering their music in iTunes Plus, Apple’s DRM-free format with higher-quality 256 kbps AAC encoding for audio quality virtually indistinguishable from the original recordings. iTunes customers can also choose to download their favorite songs from the world’s largest music catalog directly onto their iPhone™ 3G over their 3G network just as they do with Wi-Fi today, for the same price as downloading to their computer. And beginning in April, based on what the music labels charge Apple, songs on iTunes will be available at one of three price points: 69 cents, 99 cents and $1.29, with most albums still priced at $9.99."

  • IWeb 1.1.1 download PLUS: Question about iWeb 2.0 templates

I read the notice up there that iWeb 1.1.1 has been released to address certain issues. I went to:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/iweb111.html
and saw a download situation there. So, if I click download, then everything falls into place, just like in the software updates in the OS X system? Or if not, then I have to click to install something? But does it all go into the right place afterwards?
    iWeb 2.0 question:
I am going to buy iWeb 2.0 when it is available. However, is there any news about what kind of TEMPLATES 2.0 will have? Will 3rd party templates bought prior to 2.0 function in iWeb 2.0?
    Lorna in Southern California

Lorna, I am pretty sure you already have
    1.1.1............
OH, I just now checked and that is correct. I noticed that the format of the announcement looked different and in my mind, that signalled a newer update. Wrong.

  • Upgraded to iTunes Plus-Question

I just upgraded to iTunes Plus (8.0.2.20) and was under the impression that this would allow me to use my Sansa mp3 player with iTunes. Is this correct or did I misunderstand. iTunes does not recognize my player and I have purchased the upgrades for my library. Any help is apprectiated.

Upgrading to a new version of the iTunes program does not cause your songs to get upgraded to iTunes Plus.
iTunes Plus songs are in AAC format. Depending which model of Sansa you have it may or may not play the AAC files. If not, use iTunes to convert them to MP3.
The iTunes program cannot be used to load the Sansa. You probably have to use Windows Media Player. Follow the directions that came with the player.

I can get the oldest student and the highest score but in two different queries. My question is how can I use them together in one query
    List oldest student in class
    select std_fname, std_lname from student
    where std_dob = (select min(std_dob) from student);
    List highest grade in class
    select gr_fname, gr_lname from grade
    where gr_t1 = (select max(gr_t1) from grade);
because they are two tables. I think this is a confusing question: I'm not sure what the expected output is, or what the lesson you're supposed to learn is.
One way of combining results from different tables is UNION. As long as two queries produce the same number of columns, and the same datatypes, they can be combined with UNION.
For example: the following query displays the name of the employee whose job is 'PRESIDENT' (from the scott.emp table) and the name of department 10 (from the scott.dept table) in one query:
    SELECT  ename
    ,       job
    FROM  scott.emp
    WHERE   job = 'PRESIDENT'
        UNION
    SELECT  dname
    ,       TO_CHAR (deptno)
    FROM    scott.dept
    WHERE   deptno = 10
;Both SELECT clauses have 2 columns.
This 1st column in the 1st part is a VARCHAR2, so the 1st column of the 2nd part must also be a VARCHAR2. It is.
The 2nd column in the 1st part is a VARCHAR2, so the 2nd column of the 2nd part must also be a VARCHAR2. However, deptno (which we want to display here) is not a VARCHAR2, but a NUMBER; that's why I used TO_CHAR to put a VARCHAR2 value in that place.
    17.     Display names of students who have the same major as “Michael Jordan.”
    here is what I did
    select std_fname, std_lname, maj_code
    from student
    where maj_code=(select maj_code
    from studentJordan');
I am not sure if my answer is correct or not because in the output I got Michael JordanThis question is unclear, too.
Assuming you do not want Michael Jordan in the results, add a 2nd condition to the WHERE clause, so that you select
people who have the right major (which you say you are doing correctly, but the query seems to have lost something when you posted it)
    AND
people who are not named Micheal Jordan
    24.     Display the number of accounting and finance students whose test 1 grades are higher than the average on test 1.
It was too confusing for me.Are you sure?
Look at what you tried for 13.
    select  std_fname, std_lname from student
    where   std_dob = (select min(std_dob) from student);
    select  gr_fname, gr_lname from grade
where   gr_t1 = (select max(gr_t1) from grade); The function for average (AVG) is used very much like the other aggregate function, like MIN and MAX.

  • SQL*Plus Question

    All -
I am in the process of creating a series of reports for the users to run through SQL*Plus. Instead of them having to the individual report names, I wanted to create a menu type interface.
    Here is a simple example:
    set lines 1000
    set pages 0
    set head off
    set trims on
    set trim on
    set echo off
    set verify off
    set timing on
    prompt Available Reports:
    prompt
prompt 1 - Customer Dealer Trades
prompt 2 - Customer Dealer Volume
    prompt
accept rpt number prompt 'Enter the number you wish to run: '
    variable runrpt varchar2(15)
    execute select decode(&rpt, 1, '@CustDlrTrds', '@CustDlrVols') into :runrpt from dual;
    print runrpt
This will accept the input and display the necessary command, but is there a way to run the script instead of printing out the name?
    Thx

I saved your script as d:\start_rpt.sql
    set lines 1000
    set pages 0
    set head off
    set trims on
    set trim on
    set echo off
    set verify off
    set timing on
    prompt Available Reports:
    prompt
prompt 1 - Customer Dealer Trades
prompt 2 - Customer Dealer Volume
    prompt
    column rpt_val new_value rpt_val
accept rpt number prompt 'Enter the number you wish to run: '
    select decode(&rpt, 1, 'CustDlrTrds', 'CustDlrVols') rpt_val from dual;
    @ &rpt_valIt works for me

  • PE4 & Ulead DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus question

I'm using PE4 and very happy with the results. My goal is to create on standard DVDs my HD projects that are less than 20mins long. And play them back on my Blu-Ray player. If I purchase Ulead DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus with the HD power pack will it work?
    Vista quad core os
    Canon HV20 USA
    HD split
    And of course Adobe PE4
    Thank you.

Thank you Paul for the reply I appreciate that. I have some projects that I saved to my hard drive from PE4 saved as 1280x720. Would I be able to import them into Ulead and save at that resolution? Reason I ask is my BD player has a source direct choice when outputting.

  • Discussions and iPhoto 08 access plus question

I haven't been able to access the iPhoto 08 discussion but receive the following message:
"Error An error in the system has occurred. Please contact the system administrator if the problem persists. Useful links : Forum Home -- browse the forums here. Search Forums -- visit the search page to query all forum content."
As you see, I have been able to access this discussion!
Question: I think may be answerable with this group, too: Can you make/have sub-albums under an Album? If so, how is it done?
    Thanks.

The iPhoto '08 forum is sick right now - I'm sure it will be back soon
You can not make sub albums but you can make folder and place albums in them - so you might have a vacation folder with Italy, Spain, Montana, etc albums in it

  • I have a 5G, just bought my wife the nano and Nike Plus (question)

I have a 5g and registered my iPod on my computer... Today, I purchased a nano and the nike plus for my wife.... Can she establish her account at nike plus? If she wants to use any of my songs do I have to put my seting in itunes to manual?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have exactly the same configuration as you.
My main iPod is an 80gb 5G which I simply sync
    everything on my Mac with.
I also have a 4gb Nano for running with the Nike+
I simply connected the Nano to the Mac also. You can
then configure as manual or automatic to sync.
Depends on how you want to run things. I have a
specific playlist for the Nano which I use and I
just setup the sync to only do that one playlist (or
    others). Works like a dream.
Configured like this the Mac (or PC if you have one)
will sync each iPod seperately depending on the sync
rules you set. The Nano will also sync with the
Nike+ website as well but be sure to have the latest
Nano software and set your wifes Nike+ account in the
    Nano preferences.
    Regards And Merry Christmas
    NIALL 8-)
    1. The nano is in the box yet so I don't know what software version it came with... What is the latest nano software?
I want to make this as UNcomplicated as I can... Can I set the 2 ipods to manual and then she can create her own playlist of songs and put them into her nano?

  • Ipod plus question

    Hi
I have the original ipod touch and bought a ipod plus. It says when you plug into the ipod this accessory is not supported by ipod. Are there any downloads or am i stuck

Can't you click a little checkbox to tell iTunes NOT to tell you again about the update?
If your iPod works fine the way it is and your iTunes works fine the way it is, there is absolutely no reason to update either if you don't want to.
