[TV@Plus] Sound Card

1. I just installed a TV@nywhere because I wanted to transfer my VHS tapes to vcd/dvd. However, only the video can be seen but there's no sound whatsoever. I read all the problems that were similar to mine and tried all sorts of solution to fix this, but to no avail.
I just realized that one of the system requirements is a sound card....which I don't have .....a dumb mistake-don't mention it coz I'm fully aware ....(well, I decided to buy it right away since it had a good price and it has all the features that I wanted)
So my question is would the tv card's audio work w/o the sound card and just use the onboard sound chip?
2. Ok, so if I really need to buy a sound card. How could I attach my VHS' audio connectors to the line in? I've been browsing at some sound cards and all I can see at the back are the smaller line in for microphone/headphone. Is there some kind of adapter that I need to use?

don't worry, onboard sound is classed as a "sound card" as you can consider the sound card integrated into the mainboard
how are you connecting your VHS video to the card? i think using s-video or composite would give best results, so you need to connect the audio-input and video-input to the TV card - i understand there is a seperate "break-out" box included with card to do that
EDIT: i meant this, the "AV Cable":

I connected my Creative Inspire P7800 90 Watts 7.1 Speaker with the Sound Blaster Auidiogy on board sound card. I can run the "Test Speaker" program and get sounds from each speaker, but I can not get sound when I play a CD or music file from the desktop. What am I doing wrong?

If you are getting sound when you are "testing" but not when trying to play files it could be that you didn't connect your cd rom to your sound card's auxillary (for playing cd or dvd) or you have certain file types muted...for example...it is possible you have wave muted...but midi is not. check your volume control properties and see what is marked with a red X...creative is notorious for having some sources muted.
STUPID QUESTION #1, With the Diamond Plus Sound card having sound card on board the MB, where do I find the AUX of the sound card?
STUPID QUESTION #2 I recall years ago having similar issues with a sound blaster card, and yes it was related to some things being muted. Where are those volume control property settings, and what are the proper settings?

• AUDIO QUESTION: Running external sound card plus internal sound a once

Hello,
I have a question about the possibility of operating an external sound card (Line 6 tone port UX1) and operating internal audio at the same time. In system preferences, it just lets me have one or the other.
Is there a workaround or program that would allow me to do this.
It is necessary because I need a cueing output and a master output for djing with my m-audio xsession pro.
Any suggestions would be great.

• Can't find the original sound card

I have an HP Media Center m7334n desktop pc with xp multimedia. It came with a Realtec sound card, and I installed a second C Media sound card to use with an external interface. It was set up so that the Realtec handled all sounds for the pc such as watching video or listening to audio, and the second sound card worked only with the selected external device.
For some reason, I no longer have sound for audio or video through the Realtec. The C Media card still works fine with th external device, but I get no audio through the PC speakers. I have tried plugging the PC speakers into a different PC and they work fine. I have also tried plugging different speakers into the HP pc, but still have no audio. Also, I can't 'see' the Realtec card when I go to Device Manager. I have tried resetting On-board Audio to Automatic in BIOS, but that did not help.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

I suggest reinstalling the Realtek driver. Also, check to assure that all boxes are checked correctly in the Control Panel.

• Adding (not replacing) a sound card

Every previously-owned computer included extra slots for expansion cards - not so my Pavilion HPE-112Y, Product #VT637AAR-ABA. What's worse, the sound handler is not a separate card but is built right into the motherboard - and that device is acting up. I still can play audio files via Windows Media Player, Quicktime, or other programs, but the sound device apparently is not correctly reporting the file type to other programs. This has sabotaged my ability to load sound into Poser 8, which I otherwise could do.
With the help of Poser support staff, I have ruled out all other possibilities (I just downloaded and installed the latest codec pack for Windows 7, which ruled out the last alternative cause. I am NOT missing codecs).
Replacing the soldered-in sound device is out of the question, so how do I add a sound card?
This question was solved.
View Solution.

Milt, any of the Creative Labs Soundblasters should work fine. They are rated highly. However, I have continued to use my integrated sound because drivers for the Soundblaster have been known to cause problems. This is the case with any sound drivers, however. If this is the only way that you can use Poser, give it go.
Good luck!

• HELP....need a good sound card that works with Windows 7 64 bit

I've searched the internet and I'm seeing that folks are struggling with getting sound cards to work with Windows 7 (particularly the 64 bit systems). I know there are stability issues with the 64 bit system but I'm looking to install a decent sound card to improve stereo sound from my HP Pavilion (h8-1260t). The onboard sound is OK, but I'm looking for higher fidelity and the shortcomings of the stock sound chip is noticeable when played through my hi fi system. Don't really need 'surround sound' (I'm not a gamer) but I'm assuming any card that comes with this feature will also produce a quality stereo signal. I also like to archive music from steaming sources and have found a significant loss of sound quality once the track is saved. I'm assuming a good sound card will help with this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Spauld, welcome to the forum.
I suggest finding a sound card that you like and contacting the manufacturer's Customer Service to assure its compatibility with Win7 64-bit. They are the experts on their products. While I am not a fan of dedicated sound cards because their drivers are conflict prone, I would buy a Creative Soundblaster. They have been proven over time.

• USB Sound Card won't Show in Sys. Pref. Sound Pane

Hi, This has problem has happened occurred recently. I bought a USB Sound Card and it was working fine. I also have a USB Microphone that was working fine. (I am a DJ) I have a USB MIDI Turntable also, it works. One thing I could not get to work at all; MIDI I/O to USB adapter.
Everything has been working, except the MIDI I/O to USB adapter. All of a sudden everything stopped working except my turntable. It all shows up in System Profiler, but not in the Sound Preference Pane in System Preferences. I don't know why they stop working all of a sudden.
Plus one thing that I have had problems with. MIDI I/O to USB adapter does not work with any program. I bought it, it is plug and play, and it shows up in System Profiler. But it won't show up in the Audio Midi Setup.
Any Suggestions?

UPDATE: I got the MIDI I/O to USB adapter working. Now I just need to get the USB Microphone and USB Sound Card to work.

• Sound card Installer will not launch

Hello folks,
I've downloaded & tried to install a Roland UA-1EX USB sound card driver for OS 9 and the installer will not launch.
I already use the unit with OSX.
Usually these are VISE installers with a blue icon but this one decompresses into a white generic document.
I have had exchanges with technical support & whilst being helpful he swears the file is ok.
I used Filetyper to look at the file to see if I could correct the filetype & tried comparing to other similar installers but with no success.
I have a ResEdit to but don't know how to use it.
I went to the ftp site & downloaded it from there as opposed to the support site, still no joy.
I've tried different ways of decompressing & checked on my other computers but I can't get it to launch.
I get the feeling he is not actually loading it up on an OS machine but I haven't come out & said it...
Can anyone help?
here's a screenshot of the windows...

Cheers,
Steve

I found that download off a link on this page:
http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=743
It is full of warnings that it cannot be used or installed under Classic.
I must also give you the usual warning that any Mac software (Applications and some other files) unpacked on a PC will be damaged beyond repair. Final unpacking MUST be done on a Mac.
When I unpack the .sit file, I get an Installer vise 3.6 Lite Installer file, plus the other files shown in your windows. They do not have blank Icons.
Have you tried rebuilding the OS 9 Desktop File lately ? (Hold down Command and Option when the Finder is starting up.) This sometimes solves such problems.

• Not finding Sound card

I have just bought a P6206 desktop with Windows7 installed. It has the integrated Realtek sound chip
The sound works with no problems, in that I get system sounds, it plays CDs and DVDs. Skype and Messenger work , and I can play sounds from the internet.
However, I have installed several amateur radio digital programs and the sound doesn't work. They show these error messages:
Digipan. Sound card is already in use or does not exist.
MMSSTV. Can't open sound card (-1)
fldigi. E: init_stream: Could not find device "", using default device. (Drive E is my DVD drive, my hard drive is drive C)
I'm not running Media Player, or any sound programs.
They worked on my old computer which ran XP.
Please can anyone help with some advice?
Many thanks
Keith

I know it is difficult not to compare Win7 to XP, but there is a major difference. Many programs that run great with XP, may not work at all with Win7. I would try updating the sound driver. You may have to use Windows Update to find it. Hopefully, this won't effect the functions that are working properly.

• Trying to get my sound card to work with ArchLinux

Okay, let me tell you my problem. I'm still somewhat of a noob when it comes to linux so don't be hard on me . And, yes that's half of my problem, anyways I've got a sound card called the Soundblaster X-FI USB and I've been trying it to get it to work with the alsaconf command which hasn't worked of course Let me point out that whenever I use my backup flashdrive with PuppyLinux it the Alsaconf inside of it see's the card that I'm using and automatically sets it up.. Plus whenever I type the ' cat /proc/asound/cards ' command I get this..
0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xefffc000 irq 21
1 [S51 ]: USB-Audio - SB X-Fi Surround 5.1

*(The first one being my dead onboard audio)
So please help me out here I really want to have sound again and hey maybe I'll learn something new about linux!

My card is a USB which isn't compatible with the driver that they include. So no help there ;(. I've loaded Ubuntu recently and it has worked perfectly with my soundcard (Creative X-FI USB Surround 5.1) right out of the box. I personally think there has to be a way to get it to work in Archlinux since it worked in Ubuntu...
Although. I suppose I could just use Ubuntu but I'm more of a fan of Arch. So does anyone have any idea what Ubuntu used as in drivers wise to get my card to work in linux??

• Encore 2 quits at start: cannot find sound card

My PC has a built-in sound card and seems to work fine with all the video and audio programs I have installed(i.e., ULead VideoStudio9,VideoReDo Plus, etc. I never had any other program question the sound card. Do I need to add a separate card just to run Encore or is there a workaround to this problem? Feedback is appreciated.
This is my setup:
Gateway GT5014
2.8 GHz/1GB of RAM / XP Media Center Edition V 2002 SP2

Hi Neil,
I try to run DXDiags.exe but file is not found in the system - also, did a search for the file with zero result.
The search in Help Centre yielded no list of entries for DirectX. "No search results found"" to be exact.
I have installed and reinstalled the tryout app. a few times and again today to run the test. This is what I get after the application says "a sound card cannot be found":
"Application error:
The instruction at "0x7c910de3" referenced memory at "0xfffffff8".The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program."
Do you think there is something wrong with the tryout version?
Note: I did a search for DirectX and the results show a whole list of files with "directX" in them, so I think it is installed because other programs have required the latest version to either install or run.

• Creative Labs SoundBlaster PCI128 sound-card software prob

Blast it all! Where can I find the necessary software to make my Creative Labs PCI28 sound card work? (I hope that "Blast it all!" doesn't offend... )
The background
I bought a used PC from a PC-idiot (a PC-idiot being a PC user who chucks out floppy-disk and CD-ROM software integral to the PC ? I will hazard a guess that there are a lot of these types out there!), and what's worse, the idiot had "ripped out" much of the installed software rather than uninstalling it properly, with the result that the PC ran very unstably, requiring a lengthy start-up procedure in order to compensate for the ripped-out files (start-up often crashed and had to be restarted). In the end I had to run fdisk and rebuild the software system. I took the trouble to save the installed Creative program under Program Files, not that this could be inserted into C:\Program Files of course, but in order to know what I should see when I eventually found the proper software and got it installed. But finding the proper software has proven to be a hard nut to crack, which is why I bring the problem up here...
My PC has two Creative Labs cards, a SoundBlaster PCI28 card (CT4700) and a PC-DVD Encore Dxr-3 card (CT7240). I found software for both (the latter only with the help of Creative Labs' technical staff) on Creative Labs' download site, but the driver application that eventually got my PCI28 card to work (some wouldn't even do that much) has snags to it, with the result that my sound card doesn't work properly. The problem is that the CL software download was only an update, and was also devoid of waveset files. The MIDI wavesets cannot load, so this parameter is missing from the installed sound mixer (this problem is well-known and is in fact listed in CL's Knowledgebase under the title "Error ? Can not load MIDI Wavesets, MIDI Playback has been disabled").
Unfortunately the "fix" suggested there subsumes that the user has access to the original sofware medium (floppy or CD-ROM) so that the complete program can be reinstalled. Which software I don't have, thanks to the PC-idiot from whom I bought this used PC (actually I bought it from his son). The driver-file download that works with the CT4700 (this is the only one that I found that could even come close to working), a certain e28up9x.exe, is only an update, as I said above, and although it is touted as a "stand-alone" application that works with the CT4700, as an update, it is no substitute for the original program itself (it won't stand on its own). What I need ? and cannot find ? is the original program itself.
To the matter at hand, then
In the hope that somebody out there (CL staff are more than welcome to participate!) might recognize the animal in question and can therefore point me to a relevant download, I list here the Creative folder that was installed under C:\Program Files on my harddisk before I formattted it (I will try to list the contents of this folder so that it reflects the actual hierarchy ? for example, all folders listed under a plus sign are subfolders to the main folder (or subfolder) in question):
CREATIVE
+ CTsnd
Bitmap (contains a .bmp and a .txt file)
DOSdri've (contains a lot of exe files, most beginning with "ap": apconfig, apinit, -legacy,
-load, -mixer, -test)
Help (full of ? what else? - help files)
Media (full of MS Media Player files ending in ".mid")
+ Program (the meat and potatoes full of exe files, a handful of which begin with "ct"
and end with "32" (before the ".exe" suffix): ctcd32.exe, ctmidi32.exe,
ctwav32.exe, ctwave32.exe, remote32.exe, sndole32.exe, as well as some
dll files, all ending in "32.dll"
Plugins (three dll files)
+ Product Registration (contains only the subfolder English)
English (empty)
Share DLL (contains only one file: ctres32.dll)
Yours,

Too much bass? I always end up turning mine up.
But anyway, to do this you'll want to do a little equalisation. Make sure you've got the full application suite for Vista (ie: not just the audio console on Creative's site):
http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=0493
And then go to the equaliser in the main Creative control console. You'll eventually find something like this:
[img"]http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/2720/equalizer2gk.png">
What this does is allow you to adjust the volume of specific frequencies in the music: the slider on the left adjusts the deepest frequency, and the slider on the right adjusts the highest.
The best way to do general equalisation is to do it gradually. Since you want to take out the bass a little, what you'll want to do is drag the left-most slider down to something like -5dB. Then, drag the one to the right of that down to about -4dB, then the next one to -3dB, etc. Once you hit 0dB you should be at roughly the middle of the equalizer (mid-tone frequencies).
If this sounds confusing, just drag some of the sliders up and down a bunch while music is playing and you'll immediately see what's happening.
Although there is also a bass and treble thing in Windows and such, all these do is adjust about fi've sliders at once. They can be pretty useful, but they're basically just watered-down versions of a proper equaliser. I believe the Creative software's bass/treble options also are unavailable in game mode.
Note that you can also bring out the higher frequencies by doing the same thing over on the other side; this will make your sound a lot crisper, and might even negate the need to lower the bass since you'll be able to hear that higher detail without turning the volume up so much.
Although there're endless possibilities with equalisation (EQ), the best rule of thumb for general use is to make sure the centre is at 0dB, and then adjust gradually outwards from there.

• Can two different sound cards be used in AA3 Multitrack view?

I am using Audition 3 with Windows 7 Pro on a HP laptop. I need to use the on board sound card to playback a file on one track, while using a Tascam US-122 USB card to record files on another track. It seems that when selecting a specific card in Audio Hardware in a track it changes the the card setting in all the tracks. Never had this problem in Audition 1.5.

Too often using Audition 3.0.1 one gets the "Adobe Default Windows Sound Driver" error and message "The audio input is not activated. Recording audio is not possible. Please check your input configuration." This is an indication of an Audition issue where the application tries to force a default to Adobe’s DirectSound ASIO wrapper “Audition 3.0 Windows Sound.” If you click Edit>Hardware Settings (this can crash the program) and select Audition 3.0 Windows Sound, you see that the default input selections are grayed out for both Edit and Multi-track views. The work-around is: 1) select default inputs so they’re not grayed out, then 2) select your desired driver, either the much better wrapper ASIO4all or your soundcard’s own driver. Audition 3.0.1 crashes entering Edit>Hardware Settings when it is “driver-confused.”
I observe that, when Edit>Hardware Settings works, you see a “historic” list of drivers even if not currently available (when the device is off). This condition might happen because Audition tries to use its last successful driver choice, available or not. Confused, it persists in reverting to its own Windows Sound until you perform the workaround above. More and more, users have multiple connected devices – my current DAW build has a MOTU device via FireWire plus an RME device via USB – where this issue can be so bad that Audition can not even start (showing “Running” in Task Manager but actually locked-up, consuming 50% of CPU cycles until you kill not only the application but also the process). Other software such as Audio Mulch on the same PC (XP Pro sp3) do not suffer any of this, showing all running devices’ ASIO channels available for selection anytime. Adobe needs to fix this issue.

• How much does a sound card cost and can I install it myself?

I have no sound, what do I do?

Atlasltd, welcome to the forum.
When requesting help, you should always include the make/model of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of the them.
You say that you don't have sound. Is this because you don't have a sound device or because it has malfunctioned? If it malfunctioned, you can try reinstalling the sound device driver.
You can buy a good sound card for under $100. Creative makes some good cards. Since I didn't know which computer you have, I couldn't tell you if it requires a PCI or PCI Express card.
