TV Safe Area...Please Help!
I have an older TV and I burned a DVD using iDVD. However, whn I played it on my television the movie was too big for the screen. I fixed the menu so it would fit within the screen and TV Safe Area. But, I don't know how to do the same for the actual movie.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi b
Your observation is correct BUT - no two TVs views the same. TV safe is as good an approx can be.
AND it applies only to text.
To change size of the actual movie (and the DVD presentation menus) You need:
• a third party plug-in - or
• use another program else iMovie where You can resize and fill boarder with black.
The program I use is FinalCut Express - here You can re-size and rotate (parts of a degree to full spinn)
to Your hearts enjoyment - But a rather hefty price and some learning and new thinking.

Macbook Pro 15" will only boot up in Safe Mode - Please help!
My Macbook Pro will not boot up normally. It goes past the screen with the apple and the wheel and then just stays white. Also on the screen there are little rectangular blocks going across diagonally. In Safe Mode, it boots up but with little square blocks going across the screen. Can anyone help please?
Firstly, see this article: Mac OS X- What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? and this one: Gray screen appears during startup.
Secondly, try the following:
Delete caches to resolve some startup problems:
Boot into single-user mode. After startup is completed you will be in command line mode and should see a prompt with a cursor positioned after it. At the prompt enter the following then press RETURN after each commandline:
/sbin/fsck -fy
If you receive a message that says "***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****" then re-run the command until you receive a message that says "** The volume (name_of_volume) appears to be OK." If you re-run the command more than seven times and do not get the OK message, then the drive cannot be repaired this way.
If you were successful then enter:
/sbin/mount -uw /
rm -rf /System/Library/Caches/*
rm -rf /Library/Caches/*
reboot
I suggest you print out the above to be sure you do not make any errors when entering the commands. When in single-user mode you have 'root' access, so it's important that you not make any mistakes.
Lastly, reinstall Snow Leopard if the above doesn't help. This will not erase the drive. -
Can only start up in Safe Mode, please help!
Hi friends, I need your help!
I woke up this morning and my iMac G5 (w/ Leopard) was frozen. I restarted it manually, but it would freeze on a blue screen without loading the OS. It can start up fine in safe mode, but that's it! I've tried repairing permissions and zapping the PRAM - any other ideas?
What can I do in Safe Mode that might fix my comp? I haven't recently installed any applications, and I have all "open at login" items turned off.
Thanks for your help!
EllisAre you able to start with your install disc? If so, use Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
You might also try running Preferential Treatment to see if you have corrupt preferences.
Please let us know how you get on, -

Help
I upgrated my computer to OS X Mountain Lion last night and since then my computer keeps restarting over and over again. The only way I can use it is by being in Safe Mode. Can you please tell me what I need to do so my computer works perfectly again.
Thank youIf you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
View ▹ Show Log List from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports. -
Somebody who knows Safari and Google Safe Browsing please help me!!!!
In Safari under the security preferences I get this message under the "Warn when visiting a fraudulent website" ( it is selected to be on )
The Google Safe Browsing Service is Unavailable.
I repaired permissions from start up disc and all that. I logged into my other accounts, and this message isn't in safari on one of them. On mine is says that google safe search hasn't updated in 3 days. My girls says 10 days. My other account is fine.
Everything is updated to the newest updates.
What do I do??The blacklists from Google’s Safe Browsing Initiative (where Safari checks for 'fraudulent websites') are contained in a database cache file called SafeBrowsing.db - the file was created when you first launched Safari 3.2, and if you have the browser open, the file is modified approximately every 30 minutes.
In other words it is part of Safari's (version 3.2 onwards) new anti-phishing security feature.
As an alternative to turning off 'Warn when visiting a fraudulent website', which will lose you that important security feature, you should delete that database file, (but first close Safari):
Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari (this is a folder)/SafeBrowsing.db
It will be recreated next time you open Safari, and will then start again collecting details of dodgy websites.
If you are interested:
How the Anti-Phishing feature of Safari 3.2 works:
http://www.macworld.com/article/137094/2008/11/safarisafebrowsing.html
Some users have mentioned that the latest security updates 2009-001 and 002 cured the problem. You must also update to OS 10.5.7. -
Is interrupted status safe? please help.
I have read the section about interrupts in the Java Tutorial and the API documentation about the interrupt() method but I was unable to find the answer to this question.
I have two threads: thread1 and thread2
The run() method for thread1 is:
public void run() {
while(true) {
System.out.println("Hello");
if (Thread.currentThread().isInterrupted()) {
break;
System.out.println("Thread 1 ending");
}In each iteration, thread1 checks its interrupted status.
To stop the thread1, the thread2 executes the following:
thread1.interrupt();The methods interrupt() and isInterrupted() both access the interrupted status of thread1. Therefore the interrupted status of thread1 is a shared variable used by two threads. Is there any risk of inconsistency on the interrupted status caused by the concurrent access?
In other words:
I'm worried about the concurrent acces on the interrupted status variable.
Do the interrupt() and isInterrupted() methods take care of the synchronization on the interrupted status variable or should I use some synchronization mechanism?
Thank you very much for the help.the only thing i'd point out, is that you need to be careful which method you use to test the interrupt status. the isInterrupted() method checks the status and leaves the status alone, whereas the interrupted() method checks the status and then clears it. make sure you are using the version which has the behavior you desire.
other than that, i can't think of any other "idioms". i guess i will mention that generally you want to use wait/notify to coordinate threads ("normal" communication). interrupt should generally only be used be used when you want to stop the progress of a thread (abnormal communication, e.g. due to a problem). -

Some Solutions for Resetting Forgotten Security Questions: Apple Support Communities -
Hi Folks, Please help me in if this business scenario does feasible to implement !
Hi All , We have requirement in making available of all workflow notification to a another application ( which is a NON-ORACLE application ).
They ( owner of the non-oracle application ) are ready develop a page which can show their respective transaction type open notification on their end.
It is something like they shall open their page , search for the open notification ( of their respective Transaction Type ) and select all and approve in a single shot. ( This is the requirement ).
We proposed to use DBLinks, where they can create a DB link to Our Database and call SQL query to fetch all open notifications. And to Call the Notification Respond method like
SELECT wf_notification.respond ('7382356',NULL,'TESTER') FROM dual@DBLINK; ( Example ).
Here are my concerns are , please help me get more details on these ...
1. Does this approach works ? (As per my survey with Oracle Workflow DEv/Admin Guide it works ) Please guide me if not
2. If so , How they can access the notifications ?
3. Which workflow method they need to call ?
4. What the workflow tables they need to access ?
5. How we can give them the API or package which would be helpful for them ?
6. Any other guide lines for me would be really helpful thanks .!
Regards

Can anyone advise me? On my mac mail program today, I saw an email in my inbox from an old contact, with just a link in the body, and rightly assumed it was spam or a virus. I clicked on the email to delete it but did not click on the link. Of course, shortly after I received an email from myself with a suspicious looking link in the body.
Has my account been compromised? I have changed my password and security questions. No one I know has received any odd emails from me and there's nothing in my sent box. What could this be? What can I do to be safe?
Please help!Don't worry about it. It's a common spammer's trick to make an email appear to come from the person it's been sent to, to to get round any spam filters. It's another common trick to forge someone's email address as the 'From' address on a whole bunch of spam messages - if they do it to you you will get a lot of bounced messages where the address they've sent to isn't valid. This is infuriating but usually stops after a bit as they move onto another victim.
There's no likelihood you've been hacked; just delete and ignore. -
Some queries about my new ipod! PLEASE HELP!
hey guys,
before you say, i have searched the forums far and wide, and am not satisfied with what i've found, so that's why i am posting these questions! lol.
anyway, here they are; please help if you're in the know!
(1) I notice that i can feel the disk in the iPod spinning almost the whole time while watching videos. it is not a very loud noise, but it is enough to hear it slightly, and to feel vibrations. is this normal?
(2) I notice that after watching short videos, the battery life plummets, only to regain when listening to music. i take it this is just an inaccuracy with the meter, and is normal?
(3) just out of interest, how long can you run your ipod (a) playing songs, and (b) playing videos? i have a 30GB and i would be interested in comparing to others.
also, is the BTI external battery II a good option for when i need to watch vids for longer? are there any negative side-effects to the iPod because of it?
thanks alot,
oli.Let's see:
1. What you're hearing/feeling is the hard disk spinning. It's normal. Moving video takes a lot more than moving music, so to stream it out means the disk has to keep spinning. A song file can be moved to the iPod's memory buffer and played from there, using a lot less disk action.
2. The battery estimate is switching to reflect the current task. When you watch videos, it estimates how much time you have left to watch them, and when you go to music, it adjusts the estimate back.
3. I haven't had the iPod video long enough to get an idea of how long the battery lasts for music and video, but it hasn't let me down yet. I hook it up to my Mac each night and run it through the day, and it hasn't ran all the way down during normal use. I haven't run too many videos through it yet, but short films didn't drain it.
I have a Belkin external battery pack that should work well during a 8-hour trip later this month. Estimates like 6 hours of video use, but it takes AA batteries, so an extra set of batteries is all I need. Doesn't harm or affect the iPod, but it bypasses the internal battery system, so you can't charge the iPod from it.
The BTI rechargeable battery should give you more play time, and may charge the iPod as well, but you can't stick batteries from anywhere in it.
Hope that helps,
Richard

Al.The MBA seems to cause several problems to several users on boot ups
On start up my MBA would not boot up the apple logo came on but only a blank screen appeared no fan i followed several start up recommendations but to no avail so I took the MBA to the nearest Apple repair centre again the same symptoms on start up ......very sorry sir you need a new mother board that will be $500 not feeling confidant in the product declined and was going to put it on ebay for spares.
On return home I pressed the start up button and it started normally everything was working fine i decided to reinstall all the software what has caused the problem I have no idea but it is after several attempted reboots it finally started on its own so don't give up if you have this problem it may come to life
