TV Shows in higher resolution

Now that iTunes 7 is out and TV shows resolution went from 320 X 240 to 640 X 480, is there a way to re-download TV shows that we already bought so we can get them in the higher resolution?

As much as i would LOVE to see this feature. It won't happen. Most of the cost of the item goes back the the label/studio, with the balance going to bandwith. Apple only makes a few cents off each item sold. Now with each file size being 4x its previous version, that leaves even less of a margin. Now multiply that with the 45,000,000 videos they sold in the last year. It would be a profit loss and a server/bandwidth killer.
'Course, I'm just speculating.

Can I show a higher resolution on my laptop screen than on a connected (VGA) projector?
The projector is only 800 by 600 which screws up my desktop each time I project.
Additionally - if I use a remote desktop client for windows, the change in resolution makes the projection in windows unreadble.

Will not work, most likely for BootCamp. Windows drivers for hunderbolt will only create digital (DVI), not analog (VGA).
Run Windows in Parallels/other-VM-software where OSX runs the Thunderbolt port, or by a USB-VGA adapter.

What is the best way to save and copy high resolution slide show?

Creating and saving/burning slide shows in iMovie or iDVD does not appear to give the same high resolution as playing slide shows directly from iPhoto. Resolution is also lost when exporting the slide show to iTunes. Is there a recommended technique to preserve resolution when saving a slide show?

Click the "Export" icon on the bottom of the application window.
Click the "Custom Export..." button on the bottom left hand side of the new menu that appears at the top of the application window.
At the bottom of the next window click the "Options..." button.
Under the "Video" setting, click the "Size..." button.
Next to "Dimensions:" click the "Compressor native" drop down menu.
In there you have "1920 x 1080 HD".
There are a bunch of other options, so explore and find what works best for you.

High ram usage when loading high resolution images

I'm wondering why Firefox almost hangs my system while opening high-resolution images like this one (save your data, you have been warned):

While opening, it involves X process to use CPU and a lot of memory (it's freed shortly after loading the image). Other browsers don't do that. Moreover, other browsers don't do any problems with such images, they load it fast and efortless. I Have 2GB of RAM.

Unfortunately I was unable to generate log with nvidia-bugreport.sh. Doesn't work, strange. Here are some details of my system:

Moving high resolution images from PSE6 to Premiere Elements 4

I am trying to take a pdf map (happens to be of the San Diego Zoo) and insert it into a Premiere Elements 4 (PE4) project to show where we went in the Zoo and then show our family pictures/video in that area
So I bring the pdf map file into PSE6 and convert it to a jpeg and/or psd file so I can import it into PE4 (which cannot import a pdf). It works fine, but if I don't increase the image size in PSE6 the image becomes super blurry in PE4 when I change the scale (zoom in).
However, when I do increase the image size in PSE6 and save as either a jpeg or psd so it will be clear at 250% scale in PE4, I get this error message when I try to import it to PE4: "File video dimensions (width/height) too large."
This happens even when I leave the dimensions (8.5 X 8.176 inches) the same and just change the ppi for the higher resolution I need. It starts out as a 300 ppi image and I get the error message even if I only change it to as high as 500 ppi. (And if I go much lower than that, it's not going to help the resolution enough to be worth it in PE4).
(btw, the original pdf file is perfectly clear in PSE6 at 1000+% and the converted jpeg/psd are clear enough in PSE6 at 250%)
So, my question is:
How do I improve the picture quality in PSE6 so that it's not blurry when I export to PE4 and increase the scale, but maintain the right size that PE4 will accept?
This might be somewhat of a PSE6 question, but hopefully somebody knows the answer and can help me out! Thanks!

In an NLE, you are really only using the pixel x pixel dimensions. DPI/PPI mean nothing, except a larger file size.
You can set the PPI to 72 and be fine for TV. You might want to bump it up slightly, if you are outputting to a progressive file for display on a computer, but even then, you'll not need much.
PSD will be as clear a format, as you can get. I'd not bother with any JPG compression, as by the time that you lower the compression settings, i.e. compress less, to keep the quality, you will not have compressed all that much.
For zooming in, you do not need for the image to be much larger than the preset for your Project. The FAQ's at the top of the page have some good recs. for the exact sizing. If you will be panning, while zoomed out, you'll want just enough extra to allow for that movement.
Depending on the native resolution of your PDF's image, you should be able to get a reasonably sharp image onto the TV screen. Also, judge the final look of this image on a TV, if that is your final output, as it will appear better, than on the computer screen. I use a DVD RW for this sort of testing and just re-use the discs.
Last, do all of your re-sizing (as much as is possible) in Photoshop. The algorithms are a bit better than in an NLE. Now, for a dynamic zoom, you have no choice but to use Motion>Scale.

Resolution problems with Adobe Reader XI using high resolution screens?

Hey,
I am using the new Samsung Ativ Book 9 plus with a high resolution screen of 3200x1800 pixels. Unfortunately Adobe Reader XI shows menu bars in minimal sizes and I can't find any way to change this.
Does anybody know if there is a solution for this problem? I don't wanna change the screen resolution just for using that software.

Lion, Dell External Display, no higher resolutions !!!!!

Apologies if this is the wrong area for this to go into... but i think this is a problem with Lion rather than anything else.
Recently got a new MacBook Pro 15" (woo hoo !!!) and its running Lion.
When i go into the System Preferences > Display, the highest resolution is showing up as 1680x1050. That's fine.
Now when i plug my Dell 3007WFP external monitor into the laptop the maximum resolution that i can select is 1280x800. It recognizes the display, but just doesn't have the higher resolutions for me to be able to select.
I didn't have this problem with my old 17" MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard.
Any ideas on what the problem might be, and how i can fix it ???

Update...
Found the solution to the problem...
Basically, its nothing to do with Lion or a fault on the MacBook Pro...
All new Macbook's ship with the Thunderbolt port. So if you want to plug an external display in which is 30" or more then you need to use a Mini Display Port to Dual Link DVI adapter. I was using a Mini Display to DVI adaptar, so i was basically getting half the resolution (1280x800) !!! Now with the dual link, i have full 2560x1600 glory !!!

Update your system software to v10.6.7 and Safari 5.0.5
Click Software Update from your Apple menu (top left in your screen).
Restart your Mac after the updates are installed, try Safari.

Zoom into high resolution image

Hi,
Before starting to learn Muse, I've one big need: zooming into high-resolution images.
I want to show how high the resolution is by letting the viewer zoom in with a loupe (or just scrolling with mouse wheel). I'm not talking about of a slideshow through some crops of the main image, but of an shrink- or grow effect of the image.
Is this possible to achieve?

Replacing MacBook Pro Screen with higher resolution screen?

I bought a MacBook Pro 15" today which has the lower end screen resolution. I originally wanted the higher resolution screen but the guys in the shop said they didn't sell them in the shops, only online, but since I wanted one before I headed off to France on Monday for two months, I decided to just go for the lower resolution, which I was told would show no real visible difference.
My question is: if I wanted to, would I be able to upgrade the screen to the higher resolution screen at a later date should I decide I was sick of this resolution? I've only just started the computer for the first time now really, but have noticed that text is not as crisp as it was on my old vaio, which is disappointing, but I'm hoping I'm just being slightly OCD and the comparison will fade in time.

An independent repair shop wouldn't have access to order parts - so your only source is either an Apple Store or an AASP. If you want to try to DIY, you might be able to find the part at www.ifixit.com.

Very high resolution after update

I just finished update after 2-weeks holiday, and... X start it very high resolution: 2048x1536. I have 1024x768 in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf, log shows that this file is used. How it is possible that higher mode is initialized? I use Linux for about 10 years but it's first time I see something like this.
PS. this is probably related to xf86-video-ati update, I use Radeon 9800 Pro.

Is it possible to get high resolution stills from video using final cut pro? How do I do this? I desperately need to get printable images from video - with minimum expense!

No Danny boy - its actually a matter of understanding what resolution is - you are perpetuating a myth that confuses too many people. Every week at least I have to explain to customers the implications of incorrectly demanding images should be a certain 'dpi' setting. Some of their mistakes are costly!
The hard n fast rule is - do not use dots per inch to describe a digital image, only ever use the number of pixels.
Dots per inch are only used in setting print output using ink, from office inkjet printers to web offset lithographic machines, it means; ink dots per inch, not pixels, frames per second or pints of beer.
When one creates graphics the resolution should be 72 dpi.
It is the actual pixels that are important.
You contradict yourself in the same paragraph:
There is no setting in any software application that can set dpi to format a digital image, you can only specify the number of pixels.
Screen resolution on a CRT is effectively 72 ppi(or dpi).
Screen resolution is not 72 and not dpi - screen resolution is measured in megahertz and line pairs per millimetre, the same way as a video camera is measured. Screen resolution measures the display device and has nothing to do with the number of pixels in an image file; you are confusing these two concepts. Each model of display has a different resolving power, as do cameras; so to blandly saying all screens have the same specification is wrong.
This is why a 13 inch CRT shows exactly the same picture as a 36 inch CRT.

May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

Thanks Mario, but I tried everything there before posting my question. I may not have been clear in my question since I accidently recorded the whole question as the title and tried to edit. In brief: I have no trouble connecting with my daughter's iPad or my son's iPhone. However, his iPad is sending much higher resolution pictures and we disconnect after about a minute. Oddly, he can hear and see me while my screen first freezes, then goes black and gives me a message of "reconnecting" until it quits trying and shows the buttons to end or redial. The picture quality difference is what is leading me to believe it is bandwidth related. However, I get anywhere from 5 to 10 MB download speeds; usually closer to 10. Last summer, I had 4 granddaughters on their iPads, a grandson on his gaming device and me on cell phone or pc, all using the bandwidth at once with no complaints. If there is a way to lower his outgoing resolution, I think that would help.

Preset "High Resolution"

I haven't been able to fix a Preset "High Resolution" in the transparency section of the EPS-option dialog.
Is there a way to set that option by script?
It would be great if anyone help an idea of how to solve it.
