TV tuner Card for 400 Mhz G4

I'm turning a G4 400 (600megs of ram) I just bought for $100 into a home entertainment system. I'm looking for the cheapest way (under $50) to get the cable onto my system so I can watch it.
I don't really need to be able to record to the hard drive and I've read that the MPEG2 and 4 encoding is processor intensive so this may not work with my slow processor. My cable box just has a composite video output, no RCA or S-video.
This experiment is a precursor for a mac mini system and so far I'm impressed by the old G4s performance. I just added a nice 22 inch Viewsonic LCD ($329 @ costco) to it and it works like a champ. I can rip a DVD with DVDshrink and listen to music at the same time without any fuss. (Talking on skype and watching a DVD is not so good)

Hi Dj,
A lot of older PCI tuners were based on a chipset called the Brooktree 848 or 878 (bt848/bt878). There is a driver/viewer for OS X called "iTV" ( from http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Drivers/iTV.shtml ). There is a short list of cards it has been tested with at http://home.versanet.de/~athiede/itv_doc.html - but it may work with others.
I never got it to work with my G4, but that was a few years ago, and development seems to have moved forward since then.

  • TV tuner Card for Mac with Component input

Hey everyone, I was hoping someone could help me find a good TV Tuner card for my MacBook. I found a few potentials, however I've yet to find one with Component input that would allow me to play my XBox 360 at a resolution of 1050p. This is the resolution of my stand-alone monitor, and with S-Video the resolution would drop into the 400's. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Sean

Does this work with a Mac? Looks like from the screenshots this is only compatible with Vista
I'm also looking for something that also has a coaxle input along with the component input, so that I can watch TV!

  • TV Tuner card for MAC

Can anyone suggest the right tuner card for my iMac that will allow me to access my fios TV service on my computer?
    Thanks!

Are you looking for a tuner that lets you watch local programming without a cable box? Or are you wanting to watch all the channels that you are subscribed to?
If you are just wanting local channels. Then Items like these are likely what you are looking for.
If you want all the channels the Verizon provides, you will need to connect a STB to your computer. You will need something like this to link a STB to your computer.

  • Tv tuner card for imac 400mhz powerpc g3

tv tuner card for imac 400mhz powerpc g3 - 256ram - I'm running os x 10.3.9. Does anyone know of a tv tuner card or device that I can use to watch tv on my imac?

Unfortunately most of these TV devices require USB2 bandwidth so are not suitable for the iMac G3.
The Firewire versions (EyeTV 310, 410 and 610 depending on input type) are the only options.
The EyeTV 250 is an analogue only Tuner that does work on USB1.1 but in a low quality mode only.

  • Which TV-tuner card for MEGA 180

    Hello,
Just wondering which is the best tv-tuner card for the MEGA 180 which still enables the use of the original remote control.
I know the MS-8606-040 provides this but seems rather basic, the other model (MS-8606-010, TV@anywhere card) comes with its own remote control but can you use the one provided with the 180?
Any other makes which do the job?
    Thanks

The reason for this is the Microsoft requirement that any recording does not use more than 50% of the CPU processing time, hence I think you will find that all have a hardware MPEG2 encoder built in (that's why they are mostly the PVR versions).

  • USB TV Tuner Card for Macbook Air

    Dear all,
Hello! i'm using a Macbook Air (mid-2012) 11.6". i'm in need of a USB tv tuner card. Which brand i should choose?
Please note that, Gadmei is the most available brand in our country. is it possible to use this brand of tv tuner (USB) with Macbook air? OS is- MacOSX 10.9.2 (mavericks). Please suggest.
Also plz tell me is there any way to use Gadmei or RealMedia TV tuner with mac without official mac driver? (i mean using EyeTV or such third-party TV app)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Best Graphics and Tuner Card for 865 Pro with XP MCE (Maybe Vista?)

    Hi all,
I'm looking at rebuilding my 865 Pro
I haven't upgraded the graphics so what do people recommend as the best AGP card for the 865 Pro
I have the MSI tuner but I am looking a ditching instant on for MCE would like to get a idea for digital tuning card (I'm in the UK). Would anybody recommend using a combined AGP/Tuner card like the ATI All in Wonder cards or using a USB Tuner?
I am thinking I will have to stick with XP because of driver support. I have dual boot to Vista at the moment but the wifi doesn't work.
    Idea and Suggestions welcome
    Danny

    Thanks for the reply Stu.
I tried installing the XP wi-fi driver in Vista and I couldn't get it to work. I didn't try harder as the Mega 865 Pro is not supposed to be Vista compatible.
Is there a 3rd party driver I should try?
The reason I would like to upgrade the graphics is to have the option to play some games and I am beginning to find limitation with the on board graphics. I tried to check out second life on the mega the other week and it wouldn't set up because the graphics wasn't up to it.
I have tried installing a dedicated APG card before - the Gigabyte nVidia Geforce 6600 with heatpipe passive cooling.
It is a great card but I found every now and then the PC would crash with it running. It is a very tight fit with the TV tuner card and the airflow wasn't good.
So I am looking at using a small APG card or replacing the tuner. That’s why a combined card seemed to make sense and would free up the PCI slot.
As power is a problem for some graphics cards is upgrading the PSU an option?
    Thanks
    Danny

  • TV Tuner Card for MEGA PC

    Hi All!
Recently I've added a TV tuner Card (MS-8606) to my MEGA PC 651. This card is not TV@nywhere, but very similar one. It is the "optional TV tuner card" MSI talks about in the description of MEGA PCs. The card does not have FM tuner, as MEGA PC already have one on the motherboard.
I've installed the card and the standard MSI software (drivers, MSIPVS, Cinema , WinSchedule and other stuff) from the supplied CD with minimum difficulties. (The drivers on CD are version 2.79.1.64) The good things is that the software finds channels, there is picture, even the remote works
However, there is an annoying problem -- sound disappears each 2-15 seconds. That is sound works for, say, 20 seconds, then stops for 2 seconds, then works again for 5 seconds, then stops and so on. Did anybody encounter such a problem?

    Probably not anymore
It was just a TV@nywhere Master, but without the FM radio tuner.

  • Best graphic/tuner cards for 865

hi everyone out there, just need a quick answer, really nothing too complicated
firstly i have a mega 865 and have installed windows media center 2005 on it (all is well )
but now i want to connect it to my plasma screen that is hd ready
i play games like doom 3 and also want to watch my downloaded movies via the mega
which graphic card would you kind people recommend as there are hundreds out there and a bit confused
also i want to record tv on to the mega from my sky box (digital )and from my aerial (analogue ) can you recomend a good tv tuner card
    ps
if there is one that does both maybe  that would be better
    cheers everyone
    ps ps
on a tangent, i know this might sound daft but what is the difference between a full sized g card and a express g card and which one would be best in the mega 865
    nidge

This is the same question I posted a few weeks ago. Someone recommended me the radeon 9600xt so I bought the gfx card that appears on my signature. You need to add a little fan besides the card (and the radio module) to extract hot air, as the card completely blocks the airflow. The card works really fine!!
Express card? Do you mean PCI Express? That is a new type of expansion slot and, of course, it's not compatible with AGP cards so, if your mobo have a pci express slot (and not an agp one), you have to buy a pci express card. That isn't the case of our Megas (only have one AGP slot and one old PCI)
And the difference between full an half size is, of couse, how large is the card. The more little, the better airflow. Not sure but, in addition, I think that full size cards don't fit inside Megas.

  • Redeem i tunes card for my daughter

My daughter has an itunes gift card which she goty for her birthday. She also recieved an Ipod shuffle. She is only 8 years old. I havwe synced the Ipod with my own apple ID and Itunes. If and when she wants to purchase something using her gift card, will all of the credit automatically transfer to my own I tunes account? If so am I able to seperate any cedit associated with her card from my own purchases.

Would that involve creating a new user account,
That would be done by creating a new iTunes account with the gift card.

How do I use visa gift card to buy itune gift card and is the card instant or do you have to wait for it

    Hello Millie,
Thank you for the question.  There are a few options for iTunes Store Gift Cards.  You can purchase a physical Gift Card that can be mailed as well as email an iTunes Gift.  You can find more information at the following link:

  • TV tuner card for G4 digital audio?

Hi everyone or anyone, I just want a simple PCI card that I can screw my cable into and watch TV on my monitor at a max of 1080i. Seems everything I google is a PC (Windows) card. Isn't there an inexpensive quality card out there that is made for a Mac or are all those PC cards compatible? Any suggestions would be really helpful. I thank you all in advance for any answer to this non-major question.

    OK-
I take it back. There are (apparently) some PC cards that can work on a Mac.

  • B320 - No inbuilt TV tuner (Onekey TV) card for my model

Dear all, Recently I bought Ideacenter B320 desktop for home use. Later I realized there is a Onekey TV facility not available in my model. How to install inbuilt TV tuner card for this model. Do lenova have any part number compatible to this model ? Please suggest. I tried calling local support center but then don't have any idea. They recommend external TV tuner card which I don't want as PC need to be switched on for USB based external TV tuner card.
I am ready to buy new part to leverage the TV functionality of this model. Please advise

I was sold similarly for B540 saying TV tuner was part of the system.  I raised an objection with my retailer and then with the lenovo rep.  they then settled the matter by providing an external tv tuner card free.  am yet to install,
