TV tuner for my laptop

im looking to get a tv tuner to use for my laptop. i have a cable internet connection here at home and want to use it to watch tv on my laptop. what do i need to get and how do i set it up? any help you can give would be great. Also any links to products or equipment would help out.
thanks.

Okay here goes on the 'Using a Miglia Mini on a TiBook'.
Loaded up EyeTV 1.8.4 on the Ti.
Plugged in Miglia Mini to back of Ti (i.e. USB1.1 port). EyeTv reports in a dialogue box that MM required a USB2 port. (I thought it was worth checking!)
Plugged MM in to Belkin USB2 Adaptor. Device not recognized in EyeTV or in Apple System Profiler.
Dug out Power adaptor for Belkin PC card I had to unplug the MM and use the USB2 extender cable as on my Belkin card the power adaptor plugs in between the USB ports and the MM is much wider (about twice) than a USB port.
Plugged the included omni whip aerial in. Signal level was about 38% - no channels found.
Plugged in to extendable whip from our TV upstairs - signal around 87% - very broken sound and few image updates.
Plugged in to my home Yagi (located in loft) picture and sound came in signal 100%.
Signal recorded to hard disk no snags. Play back was fine - even at same time as live tv playing (there's only one tuner though - unlike my Freeview set-top box.)
So in conclusion - it works on a Ti but you'll need a powered USB 2 cardbus adaptor and a very strong signal/high gain aerial. The mess of cables - MM/Extender Cable/Cardbus/Power Adaptor/UHF Coax is more visible on a Ti than desktop where it can all be hidden away.
Hope this helps and if anyone needs any further info - just shout. I'm just downloading EyeTV2 now to see how that it.

  • TV tuner for a laptop? What does it do, and what else is needed

I hope I am posting this in the right place...if not I am really sorry.  I am new to this whole talking to other people online thing...Heck I'm rusty at just the talking thing.  I am a stay at home Mom and have been for almost 10 years.  If you wanna talk Dora, Spongebob, Abs's and/or 123's  I am up to date on those topics...I can even hang in there if you want to talk phonics....which I think is just making them relearn baby talk all over...but just me...a whole bunch of experts say that the way I learned to read, by actually reading was so completly wrong that I am lucky I am not extinct...If i wait a year or so there will be a new best way...and hopefully that will be a lot easier.  But if you wanna talk like a grown up...it's been a LONG time since I was in the company of grown ups enough to be fluent in their language.  Sorry for sad, lame attempts at humor...nervous that the cool kids are gonna not like me...I already made a near fatal error apparently.
Anyway, sad story...skip it and lets say we covered it...The fact that is relevant here is we canceled cable to cut costs...and I am lonely and sad...as well as my kids.  Is this the answer to our prayers.  Or is this one of those things that you need one to make the new one work...but cause it's new it's a gotta have item?
What I wanna know is if I have basic wireless internet...will I be able to watch TV shows on my laptop?  Yes or no?  Simple and small words please...really...not joking much at all...your posts on here make me feel like I am a trained seal, or something as equally not smart...lol
Thanks for any help and ideas you can offer!

As GS7k said - a TV tuner will only help you if you have TV content to tune,  whether that is cable or broadcast OTA TV.  For OTA broadcast you just need to connect an antenna to your old TV.  (Or if it's an analog TV, purchase a converter box or a newer digital capable TV.)
For viewing TV shows directly on your computer - try hulu.com or the website of whatever network produces the show.  Many of them post their episodes for online streaming now.
Two things to be aware of:
    1)  Adobe Flash (used by nearly all of the legit TV streaming sites) is a major system resource hog.  You need a pretty fast computer even for standard def content.
    2)  The online streaming offerings often have WEIRD availability rules/restrictions, such as "show will be posted 8 days after it airs and kept posted for 5 weeks only".  These vary from show to show, even on the same network.

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new windows installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • I have a i tunes account but laptop is broken . how do i sync my ipod to a new laptop?

i have a i tunes account but laptop is broken . how do i sync my ipod to a new laptop?

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software to copy over. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

Hi i have just tried to update i tunes and it has crashed and uninstalled i tunes off my laptop. I have tried to install i tunes again but it wont and comes up with error messages

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • I-tunes for Windows XP Professional x64

I tried a lot to find out i-tunes for Windows XP Professional x64 bit
but i didn't get any solution for installing i-tunes in my laptop which had Windows XP Professional x64 bit.
when i asked to other person then at last i found only one reply that,
"If i want to install i-tunes in my laptop then i has to CHANGE OPERATING SYSTEM

iTunes is a 32 bit program.
The 64 bit installer has 64 bit drivers for burning and the iPhone.
If you don't have an iPhone you should be able to install the 32 bit iTunes and then download the 64 bit Gear drivers for burning from the Gear download site:
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.cfm
You may need to enable scripts if you are using Firefox with Noscript.
If you have an iphone and want to try to get the 64 bit installer to work here are some links that may help:

after restoring my new iphone 5c from icloud  itunes cannot detect it any more i phones however i tunes in another laptop can do

Is your device recognized by your computer? If yes, copy the pictures and videos as shown in this article:
Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer
If it is not recognized, try this first: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Disable autosync in iTunes, right click on it in the device list and choose "transfer purchases" to copy apps and other media bought in iTunes to your new library.
Do the same again and choose "backup", to create a manual backup without syncing.
Since your device will be erased due to the new iTunes library during the first sync, you can use this backup afterwards to restore your settings and data.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer before you start, to be able to merge calendars and contacts.

  • Tv tuner for CQ58-255SA - is one already installed?

    hello all
after much time spent looking for the answer i've had to post my question here.
does the CQ58-255SA have a tv tuner card already installed or will i need to get one?
If i do need to purchase one - can anyone reccomend one please?
(I have installed Media Portal which looks very promising but as it can't locate anything, i'm assuming my laptop doesn't have a built in tuner card - but it could be due to configuring media portal incorrectly!)
    thanks in advance

Here are the specs for your Compaq CQ58-255SA Notebook Computer. There is no TV tuner listed in the specs and it is unlikely that you will be able to install a TV tuner internally. Your best option is to purchase an external USB TV tuner for use in your geographic region. Please visit a local or online retailer of computer components to make your purchase.

If you want seperate accounts for managing apps and purchasing content, basically yes, you need two account and would need to repurchase. However, if you just want seperate ID for iMessgae, icloud and such, you can do that and still continue sharing the same Id for apps and itunes.

You need to talk with the tax authorities in the countries to which you traveled and that of your home country. We are all end-users liek you and not Apple agents.

  • Help with enabling TPM in Task Sequence for Dell Laptops

    Hi there,
I would appreciate some advice on creating a task sequence for Win8.1 with TPM enabling for Dell laptops; I have BitLocker set up manually with a Group policy, but want to have TPM enabled in the task sequence. I have read older posts on sites such as windows
noob, but can't see how to reference the CCTK and get TPM going for win8.1 in a SCCM2012 environment.
Obviously I haven't created this before so any help would be appreciated; I have noticed when I try to import my CCTK configurations into SCCM as it isn't a zip file I cannot do it.

Luckily Dell wrote a whitepaper about that subject, see:

I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?  Will the new one become less effective if it sits around too long?

How much capacity is remaining on your current battery?
    Check your power status
From the  menu: Hold OPTION and click System Information... èHardware è Power
Copy and Paste in your reply.
The new battery will become less effective if you store it in a hot or humid environment. It should be stored at room temperature (22 C).
    Long term storage (6 months):
Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.

  • How do I use my 8300 as a modem for my laptop

    Hi all,
I'm new to this forum. This is my first post...
I'm trying to set up my 8300 smartphone to be used as a tethered modem for my laptop to be able to get the full internet content anywhere with in cell coverage.
    Question 1:
I got instructions from the 'BlackBerry HELP' icon on the phone (my question was: how do i use my device as a modem) which seemed very complete. The modem is dial-up and when I try to connect I get Error 718 (basically a timeout error).
    Can anyone help?
    Question 2:
Since this uses dial-up, would I be using my cell phone minutes?
    Thank you, Lar

    hello,
first thing is to look on the forum if people have already solved your issue. In this case, the tethering subject is quite frequent. You will certainly find your answer among these discussions :

  • How do I use my airport express as my default audio for a laptop?

I can stream music from iTunes to our airport exoress no problem, but I'd like to be able to use the speakers connected to our Airport Express as the default audio output for my MacBook Pro - i.e for all sounds, aps, etc.  This would allow me to wirelessly stream music or any other audio (not just iTunes) and then have it played through the speakers.  I've googled and looked here, but cannot seem to find a clear cut answer that isn't two plus years old in all the clutter.
    Thank you in advance.
(PS - I'm working on a MacBook Pro with the latest and currently up to date OS X 10.7.2)

Update: An Apple rep called me today to update the status of my return. I was told that the replacements for the BLACK iPad 2's was still another 3 weeks out (at least) so they offered me a brand new WHITE 16GB iPad 2. I could have that or continue waiting. I opted to go ahead and accept the offer of a new white one. Worst case scenario if I don't like the white one I have buddy that just bought a 16GB black one that he would be willing to swap it.
