TV Tuner - TVAnywhere v. Hauppauge v. ATI Wonder Pro

Hello.  I am likely purchasing a Mega 180 this week primarily as a HTPC.  As with any forum there are more complaints and requests for assistance than praise.  It does seem, however, that the MSI TV tuner has several issues.  Would you recommend going with an alternative TV tuner such as the Hauppauge 250/350 or ATI Wonder Pro?  I realize I may lose remote functions with the MSI remote - but it appears as though girder may solve this?  I hope to use the mega as a PVR on a 50" Samsung DLP - any suggestions based on this set-up?  Thanks -
Jeremy

In my own case, the idea of using Mega 180 as PVR has failed. I strongly believe not because I'm stupid.
Perhaps in the US with few different standards being used the whole outlook is different, however I must admit I have not seen a single review among all those generally positive ones about Mega 180, where any testing was done for this relatively-important function.
So my recommendation would be to think twice before spending your hard-earned money on this gadget.
Another thing to warn about is severe problems with CPU temperatures, unless you are willing to "underclock" the system, or to make serious changes in the interior design.

  • ATI AIW vs ATI TV Wonder Pro

I have done searches for this before but never found anything. I used to have an All in wonder series video card but I did not like the price jump to get a newer card so I decided after much research to go with the TV Wonder Pro but there is one thing I cannot figure out to get enabled (if it is even possible!) With the AIW I could pause TV because it would always record whatever you were currently watching. With the seperate card it no longer does this feature. I used it all the time and I cannot figure out how to enable this feature.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay I installed the new mmc and catalyst drivers from ati with no luck for the "tivo" feature. (I guess I will need to call ati and hopefully get somewhere with them). But I have run into a problem. This could be a number of different things and I am slowly trying to figure it out.
Recently I had to do a repair on Windows XP on my machine. As most of you probably know when you do a repair you need to reinstall service packs. I decided to try SP2. About the same time I installed my soundblaster Audigy Card. Now when I watch TV the audio has a reverberating sound and the video will freeze after a couple of minutes, but the audio will still keep going. Most likely this is from SP2 but it could be related to my soundcard. Also when I do the PC Check it comes back saying that Directx is not installed (I have 9.0c installed from SP2) and that my capture drivers are not installed.
I have downloaded some more files from ATI and will try those tonight and if that doesn't work I will pull the sound card then as a last resort (before removing SP2) call ATI. The reason I don't want to pull SP2 is I haven't had any other problems with it. And I like the security features it incorperates into Internet Explorer.
Anyway I will post my findings when I get a chance.

  • MS-6309 V2.x problems with ATI-All in Wonder Pro AGP 2.X

I have a  MS-6309 V2.x and are trying to have my  ATI-All in Wonder Pro AGP 2.X  working on this Mainboard !  The computer crash after loging and restarts imediately  ! this repeats to the invinity !  I have the latest bios update !  Some one with the same problem please tell me about your work arround !

Ok ! I have figured out the problem largely because of your aid on this forum ! Thanks to all !
The problem is the compatibility with the CPU's !!!
Well here are all the information found on the CPU's
I have a :  Pentium III  costa rica
                   850/256/100/1.7v
                   3045A586-1116 SL4CC
The Pentium III is the big problem It crash all the time on all systems !
    and a :     Celeron
                   900/128/100/1.75v
                   Q151A233-0248 SL5LX
The celeron crash when it whant's on Windows and crash from time to time when I use certain Software on Linux system
One question does your Bios Upgrades include the microcode for these CPU or is it the Operating system (Under Windows) update.sys that does the updates !
It's not the ram responsible for the crashes but the CPU'S !

  • For All The ATI Radeon9600 Pro users only.

If you are an owner of a built by ATI Radeon 9600pro card then you should take some interest in this post.
Some of you may know of the modifications you can do to the Radeon 9500 non-pro and turning it into a 9700 Pro.  By installing the bios of a 9700 into the bios of a 9500 you will fool the computer into making it run as a 9700 pro.  The idea was that the board layout and GPU core of the 9500 and 9700 were identical to each other that the only deference was the bios.  Same micron cores, but only the 9500 was underclocked via the bios.  The quality control team at ATI would test the GPU cores for 9700 performance standards and the ones that fell slightly short were used on some OEM 9500 boards.  So doing the bios mod one would achieve, in most cases, 9700 results.  A voltage mod would remedy any GPU that couldn't handle the load.
ATI caught wind of this and soon introduced the 9600 and 9800 Radeon series.  How ever, you can still modify the 9600 to a lesser degree.  On the Built By ATI 9600 pro cards, you will notice a template for a FDD power connector.  You can attach an FDD connector to it and will achieve higher overclocking on this card.  The reason is simple, more power to the ram and GPU, the more MHz it can handle.  The default speeds of the 9600 pro are 400GPU/300RAM.  Most boards are reaching 500/345 with out the FDD mod.  With the FDD mod you can expect a minimum of 10%, but most results are higher.  The 9600 Pro uses a smaller micron core then anything out today, so there is a lot of headroom for overclocking with heat being less of an issue.  If you are brave enough to try it, I'm sure you will be impressed with your efforts.  I will post my benchtests after I deal with my MOBO issues.
P.S.  The FDD mod will only work on the revision 1 Built By ATI Radeon 9600 Pro.  These are better also because they use 2.8ns ram as compared to 3.3ns on rev. 2's.

    I'm going crazy!!!
I'm not sure if the problem is the graphics card which is the one mentioned.
Because my computer's performance is slower than ever:
    * When I restart it takes quite a while to open any aplication.
    * Video freezes during playback (playback doesn't stop, but the image does)
    * Rendering with Final Cut, Photoshop and Maya is way slower than my old Pc's.
Even when all system software is up to date nothing fixes this problems.
I tried a couple of times reinstalling the hole system but those problems remain intact.
Does anybody knows if this could be fixed with an specific codec or with a different graphic card????
Has some of this issues happened to you????

  • Upgrade SNAFU - MDD/ATI 9800 Pro/Flat Panel Display

I've been adding to my MDD and been caught overlooking the fact that my Apple ADC monitor doesn't connect to my ATI 9800 Pro. ADC, DVI, VGA .... whats next
Anyway, is there a connector or adapter I can get to 'bridge' this last hurdle?
Sometimes with Google you need to know exactly what you are looking for in order to get the right results. My results didn't produce what I was looking for.
    Thank you

Go to the Apple Store, look under "Displays". Then look for the "Apple DVI to ADC Display Adapter". Costs $99. But that's what will do it with LCD ADC displays. Dr. Bott used to make (and may still make) the DViator which accomplishes the same thing. Both have big bricks which supply the juice to your ADC monitor -- in fact the DVIator uses the PSU for a Cube.
I mention LCD monitor with ADC because both don't work the ADC CRT monitor. I know you have flat panel in the subject of your post; I mention that for other who might come across this thread.

    Hi,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Forums!
There is currently only one BEST solution for your situation available for a Mac G5 2.0 AGP. It is the The RADEON X800 XT Mac Edition with ADC and DVI Dual Link connectors. As seen here:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435317/
This gives you a Dual Link DVI connector for the 30" ACD.
The remaining ADC port can be converted to DVI output for your 20" LCD with this:
Belkin F2E9142 Apple Monitor Adapter (ADC to DVI)
    As seen here:

  • Drivers for ATI HD2600 PRO not working fine on Bootcamp

    Hi!
I´m installing Bootcamp drivers on my iMac (2.0 and upgrading to 2.1) with Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. The thing is that in the device administrator, my graphic card (ATI HD2600 Pro) is named ATI HD2600XT. Also, I can see a few lines when having a white screen on my monitor, like the refresh rate was not correctly configured.
There´s any way to fix this error by downloading any aditional driver?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi-
The 9800 Pro is plug and play in OS X.
Did the eBay seller state Mac compatibility?
As for testing, the card is installed and either provides video through the DVI and VGA ports or it does not.
There must be power connected to the 4 pin Molex connector on the top corner of the graphics card.
A reduced ROM card won't display an error screen if power is not connected. It won't display anything at all.
A full ROM version will display a default error screen.
    *Power must be connected*.
There was an individual here recently, who bought a 9800 Pro from someone on eBay who stated Mac compatibility, but sold an unflashed, vanilla PC card. There is no picture unless the card has been flashed with Mac ROM.
If power is connected to the molex connector, and all other conditions (taping, installation, cabling) are normal, I would return the card as DOA.

  • Can I add a ATI 9800 PRO AGP card?

    Hello,
I am seriously looking at this cool MEGA PC as HT add-on. I am thinking of adding a ATI 9800 PRO card. Can I do it? :O

I don't know if it will fit, but let me say this about those Flex-ATX 200W PSU's.  Don't count the smaller PSU's out.  And don't think that a higher number is better.  Because when it comes down to it,  it's about quality not quantity.
I have a Shuttle SB51G with the ACHME 200W PSU.  Just 200 little watts, but yet it runs 100% stable with the following:
    P4 3.06G @ 145FSB (3.35G)and polished/lapped heatpipe
    Kingston HyperX DDR434 (2x256) @ 2-2-3-5-8 1T
    Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB @ 441/371 and Iceberq4 Cooler
    Pioneer DVR-105 (1.33b unlocked)
    WD1200JB 120GB 8MB Buffer Drive
    Atek Pro III flash reader
2 60mm fans (from Coolermaster Dual P4 Xeon coolers)
    EL Glowing faceplate
    ANTEC Tri-Led fan for heatpipe
Round cold cathode from a cold cathode 80mm fan.

  • Confused over ATI 9800 Pro

I know this is somewhat off topic for this forum but I didn't know where else to post this question. I want to upgrade my woefully inadequate FX5200 to an ATI 9800 Pro but need dual monitor support (non gaming). I know the 9800 Pro has both a VGA connector and DVI connector but their HydroVision software is required to make a dual monitor setup work correctly. ATI's web site for Hydravision support(http://ati.com/companyinfo/glossary/hydravision/products.html) does not show support for any 9000 series ATI card. Does anyone here know if Hydravision is supported for this card?

If memory serves, the two cards are identical in hardware, the only difference being the bios. Thus, you can turn a pro into an XT with relative ease. Let me note that I have not done this, so I don't speak from specific experience.
That said, you might want to hold out for the new nvidia card if you'll be able to afford it. The reviews of the Geforce 6800 ultra show it to be close to 100% faster than current high end chips. You're reading that right--it's close to twice as fast as anything on the market right now. After seeing those numbers, I had to spend an hour crawling around on the ground trying to find my eyes.

  • ATI 9800 Pro Mac SE - Screen Artifacts and Anomalies

    Hello All,
I was lucky enough to be given a new video card this Christmas (ATI 9800 Pro Mac Special Edition). Unfortunatly I am having some serious issues.
When I frst installed the card in my G5 all seemed well, both my displays appeared to be working properly and I did not notice any problems. The next day I decided to update the ROM on the card to the latest offered by ATI; after doing this I began to notice some horrible screen artifacts and tearing.
    Examples:
    http://static.flickr.com/39/77612780675feadba0o.jpg
    http://static.flickr.com/42/7761277964b07c6811o.jpg
As you can tell from the screenshots above this is not normal.
Here are some details of my Powermac:
    Dual 2.0G5 w/ 3.5 GB of RAM
    Running 10.4.3
    Displays:
23" Apple (plastic) Cinema Display connected via ADC
    17" Sony connected via DVI
    And the ATI card:
    Chipset Model: ATY,R350
    Type: Display
    Bus: AGP
    Slot: SLOT-1
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x4e48
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    ROM Revision: 113-A14402-126
I have attempted to downgrade the firmware on the card to the previous ROM offered by ATI; no luck.
I have taken the normal troubleshooting procedures:
    - Repair permissions
    - Clean caches
    - Repair Disk
    - Reseat video card
    - Install a fresh copy of Tiger on a seperate drive
    - Install different versions of ATI's software (currently using the most up to date)
    - Remove ATI's software
    - Boot into safemode
    - Run one display at a time (first ADC then DVI)
It seems ATI support is out till 12/30; does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks for all your help....

I purchased this card on ebay as a new, unused Apple factory unit, which doesn't require the molex power drop from the superdrive. I've got a 20" aluminum cinema display and a 17" clear CRT studio display connected. My main problem is that I get random app freezing (mostly Safari, sometimes Preview, and occasionally Mail). I can browse with Firefox all day and not have a problem. Console shows nothing unusual, either.
Symptoms: cursor present and movable, but unable to click on anything, Dock icons don't display their names upon rollover, perpetual beachball in frontmost app, high-pitched screech coming from machine somewhere (unless 'Napping' is turned off in CHUD processor pref pane, then normal).
Until this evening, I was under the impression that these were freezes that required a hard restart - I had waited several hours for the symptoms to clear to no avail. Tonight I decided to try something: I pressed the power button on the 20" display, and then pressed the 'S' key to sleep the system (even though I got no feedback on screen). I waited a few seconds and then left the room for a minute or two, and when I came back, the machine was sleeping. I woke it up and found horrible corruption, which corrected itself after another sleep cycle.
I was actually preparing for an archive & install to see if maybe different drivers would be installed that alleviate the issue, but wasn't too hopeful.
    Bizarre...
Now I'm not sure what to do. I haven't been able to use Safari for several weeks due to this. I had thought that since it only seems to happen with Apple apps, that maybe it was a core OS thing that 3rd party apps weren't affected by.

I have an 845PE Max2 Fir (ms 6704 ) Win xp. Is anyone using the ati 9700 pro with this mb. if so did you have any problems with it and do you like it.  I haven't decided which card to buy yet but I surely don't like the idea of paying $4 to 500.00 bucks for the gfx which will be outdated before games are even made to utilize the features it will have.  Thanks
    Den

    I agree with Richard...
The reviews I've seen show that the Ti4200 is right up there with the FX5xxx series cards until you get to the FX5900 and atm there are no games released that take advantage of the newer cards anyway so why spend money needlessly?
SWG and Unreal2 are going to be the first two games that support DX9 anyway and both will run on a Ti card very well...
Up to you cause it's your money but I wouldn't buy something that isn't going to give you the bang for your buck...why not save a little longer and buy something worthwhile like the 9800 or 5900? You must have a couple hundred by now...by the time you save a couple more hundred you'd be able to afford something quite a bit nicer...
    Cheers!! 8)

  • K8T Neo and AGP ATI 9700 Pro...Video Problems!

This computer has been out of service for almost 6 months as I have replaced it with a new one. I grabed it today and loaded XP Pro on it without any problems. I have 2 monitors attached to the ATI 9700 Pro both running at 1600x1200. After configuring the new OS with updates and drivers I rebooted. This is where the problem surfaced.
    PROBLEM:
I get to the XP PRO Loading screen with the progress bar. After a few seconds, 2 revolutions from the progress bar, the screens go black and a few seconds after that the monitors go into standby due to the lack of a video signal.
    MORE INFO:
Several times when I tried to reboot, the PC would not display video at all and beep (the video error), 7 times (I think). Now this problem is not happening. Although I did get random characters all over the screen once.
I can boot into Safe Mode without any problems.

    NOTE:
This computer has always had problems, 99% of which were playing video games. The problems I experienced in video games were that the computer would lock-up or automatically reboot after random time intervals when playing games. The games I noticed it having the most problems with were Everquest II and World of Warcraft. I replaced this machine with a Dell and have had no problems with either application. Therefore I can rule out faulty software. At the time before replacing this machine I tested everything, Memory, Hard Drives, etc...
