TV (video) output from new nano looks very good!

Just a comment for those who may be wondering how the video quality on the new iPod nano looks when output to a TV. I have one of the old iPod AV docks with the s-video port and the new nano seems to work fine with that combination (using a standard s-video cable between the dock and the TV). Thus far I'm really impressed with the video quality, I can't see a single problem, the color is good, the quality and sharpness is as good as I've seen from any iTunes Store content, and as far as I can tell the frame rate is fine (no stuttering, skipped frames, or problems with audio sync). I'm amazed that such high quality video can come from such a small device. If it continues to look this good (after viewing more content and after more testing) then I think Apple may have "hit one out of the park." This thing could turn out to be the most popular iPod yet (if you have any interested in video and still want a small device).

I just found out that the video out (TV) on the new nano supports video playlists so you can create playlists for back-to-back display on the TV. Not even the AppleTV will do that (even though the latter has been a highly requested feature for the AppleTV since day one). In fact, if you can do without the on-TV menus you may find that the nano is a better video output device than is the AppleTV (that is, the menus system on the nano doesn't appear on the TV output).
Also, I just competed a few hours of video playback to my big-screen TV from the nano and I'm still impressed. No video problems at all, looks very good considering the quality limitation from the content that is currently on the iTunes Store (limited to standard definition, no HD movies, HD TV, or HD music videos as yet).

  • Video output from iPod Touch (2nd gen) via AV Component Cable (no audio)

Hi, I'm trying to output a video from my iPod Touch (2nd gen) to my TV via a AV Component Cable.
Unfortunately the audio doesn't work, I'm sure they are all connected into the right places.
The video works, but I get no audio. (And no subtitles when closed caption is on)
Here is a link to an image of the TV connections from ImageShack:
    http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/7280/img0204y.jpg
At the top left of the image, are what I assume to be the red and white audio ports, highlighted in red.
I plugged in the red and white audio connectors into those ports.
And towards the bottom are three ports, green, blue and red, also highlighted in red.
I plugged in the green, blue and red connectors into those ports.
I changed the input of the TV to Input 2, I see the video for the movie I'm watching on the TV but no audio. I tried multiple movies.
I've also tried changing the video output from PAL to NTSC and back again, turning Widescreen on and off and turning Closed Captions on and off. I also tried plugging in the red and white audio connectors into the row of ports just below the green/blue/red row, to see if that made any difference, and it didn't.
I tapped the bottom left button of the iPod Touch when plugged in to the TV and playing video and it came up with an option that was selected called ~"Audio Source: English (Stereo)"
    Any idea's? Thanks.

  • Video out from iPod Classic looks "squished" on my TV

I have a new iPod Classic which replaced a 5G video iPod. I have edited my photos in iPhoto to the 16:9 ratio to watch slideshows from my iPod on my 16:9 plasma TV using an iPod dock from Apple. Now when I hook up my new iPod to the same TV, using the same dock, the video output now looks "squished", and there are black bars above and below the image. When I watch the same slideshow on another TV using my Apple TV, the images look fine, and fill up the entire screen. Any idea why? Do I need a new dock?

And your TV is set to "Full" or the like? I'm used to Sony HDTVs, so I don't know what the setting would be on your TV, but the largest Widescreen setting.
That's the only thing I can think of, especially since you said when you tested it on another TV it worked. So it must be your TV and neither the iPod nor the cable. The way the iPod and cable work together really shouldn't change from TV to TV unless the TV itself has an issue.

  • HOW DO YOU LIKE THE VIDEO ON THE NEW NANO

My brother wants to get me something really good for Christmas and I was thinking about a new nano. Believe it or not I still have the original mini (the battery is long dead, but I use it in my car so it doesn't matter as it charges from the connection). I want it for the video capabilities but want to hear from folks first.
    Thanks.

If you are looking for a video camera that can shoot in low light, zoom, produce a quality image that looks great on your 120" Plasma TV, etc., this is the wrong choice.
If you are looking for an MP3 player that you can take out in good light and shoot some quick videos for posting on YouTube or sending to your friends this would be the right choice.

  • Poor iPhone video output from QT Pro

I am creating videos for my website using the File > Export for Web option in QuickTime Pro.
My problem is with the generated file for the iPhone "myfile-iPhone-cell.3gp". The video generated for the iPhone is very poor quality - it is very pixelated when streamed over the internet. I believe this is due to the fact that it is generated by QuickTime Pro at 176x109px, which is about 1/2 the size of the iPhone's actual screen. So, when it gets to the iPhone, it has to be "enlarged" and then gets grainy. If I stream a large dimension MP4 file, like 640x480px (from another software converter) into my iPhone, it looks really great.
So, I'm wondering why the programmers at Apple, who have direct access to the hardware and software, chose to output the iPhone-cell.3gp file at such a small dimension? Is there a way to correct this or am I stuck with what I get? I feel the video quality is not good enough to put on our corporate website.
Any advice on this is appreciated. Thanks.

The cell type movies are meant for ten-year old Nokias.
I feel the video quality is not good enough to put on our corporate website.
Then don't post it. Or enlarge it.
Use a larger export size. The iPhone type. It's for the iPhone: myfile-iPhone.m4v
It's not difficult to figure that out. And you seem to know the answer:
If I stream a large dimension MP4 file, like 640x480px (from another software converter) into my iPhone, it looks really great.
And why not try them all. Why not try? Why so helpless?

  • No digital video output from XVR-300 in Ultra-45

I am switching from solaris 10/x86 to sparc. I have a new Ultra-45 with XVR-300 graphics adapter. It's running Solaris 10u4. The system was ordered as a standard configuration from the catalog.
The XVR-300 graphics adapter currently produces no digital output. My Sun A1240P0 24" monitor reports no signal on the DVI input. That is, there is no digital output at power on (boot ROM), during Solaris boot (terminal), nor after Solaris finishes booting (X).
The graphics adaptor uses a connector with two video outputs, and comes with a splitter cable with two DVI output connectors. I get no video output on either. The DVI cable I am using is the one that works when connected to the graphics adaptor on the old system.
I added a VGA adapter plug to connector 1 of the splitter cable, and was able to get an analog signal to drive the display via the VGA input connector.
The manuals for the Ultra-45 and for the XVR-300 make no mention of analog vs digital output. They both just say to connect the adapter to the monitor.
Since I can get analog output from the SVR-300, the card is basically working. The DVI cable and the monitor's DVI input work with another system. The only variables are the digital output from the XVR-300 and the splitter cable. (The splitter cable's analog signals work.)
How can I activate digital output and make it the default?

  • HELP !! --- Three Video Outputs from FM2-A55M-E35

I have put together a PC using FM2-A55M-E35 and A55 AMD  CPU Chip set from Newegg.com a few weeks ago.  I got a pleasant surprised that the HDMI, RGB and DVI-i, each connecting to one monitor, can project to each monitors as a distinct screen.    Under the screen property, ,I can have a full three monitors setup showing monitor 1, 2, and 3.    It works nicely.
Last night, the harddisk crashed (shouldn't have used a used harddisk).     So I re-build the system from scratch.
However,   when I load the driver CD that came with the motherboard, the driver program does not recognize any Video section at all.    Whatever happen to the BIOS, it looks like from within Windows 7 the program does not understand the video any more.   The motherboard basically has a SVGA output via HDMI and DVI. both showing the same content.    When I go into the display property under Widnows, I can only see ONE monitor.   It also shows SVGA, not the powerful video that the motherboard-CPU combo can do.
When I was in the BIOS, I restored the setting to default but it did not fix anything.   The goal is to allow the video feature be restored to working with three distinct outputs.
I toggled the video setting from one to the other, it did not fix anything.
I am asking for HELP!.      Worse yet, this is my work computer and I really need to have it fixed ASAP.
    Tony

More information on the Video Card integration problem, but no success yet.
I plugged in the second monitor; an Acer AL2223W LCD connected to one of the ports on the EVGA GeForce GT 610 card, to see if it would be recognized. It displays "No Signal" when turned on.
Did a search on the computer and found the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. That had a place to search for video equipment and the only thing it would find is the Samsung 213T.
I verified that the fan on the card is running so the card is getting power via the PCI-E slot.
The 2 outputs on the video card and the receptacle on the Acer are DVI-I dual link configuration with 24 pins + 4 pins at the flat pin for analog signals. The Samsung has a DVI-D dual link receptacle (24 pins).
The cable is DVI-D Single Link (18 pins + the flat pin). When I get another cable it will be DVI-D Dual Link.
It seems that the  EVGA GeForce GT 610 video card is not being recognized by the mother board or not putting out a signal.
There was no driver disk with either the video card or the computer.
Power supply is 430 Watts and the card specs say the PS should be at least 300 Watts.
Do I need to do something with the BIOS or get a driver or setup disk for the board or card or do something with a jumper on the MB?
Do I need to get the DVI-D Dual Link cable to get the signal from the Video Card to the Monitor?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • Video output from iphone4 to TV

    Hey you guys!
Just wanted to know, If i have my iphone pluged in to my TV via the
RGB (video) + L/R (Audio) cables i got from the Apple store, Can i acctually use my TV as the monitor instead of the iphone4 itself ?
The reason i ask is, I can already watch movies from my iphone4 on my TV. but can i do anything else ? like play a game or browse the web with Safari ?
And if so, can you give me some tips please ?
    Thanks

So how does Steve Jobs do it at those Apple events he holds?
He has a special iPhone. (Apple does favors for him.) Since that phone is always used with a cable connected, it doesn't need a battery, so has space available to add extra circuitry for digital video output. Most customers would rather have a phone with a battery.

  • Video output from ATV is "blurry"

Here's a strange one. I have an ATV connected to a Sony Bravia W series 1080p TV via component video .
The output from my ATV is "blurry" on the screen, but otherwise functions fine.
When I power off the ATV and back on (remove the power cord), the picture is fine, until it goes into sleep mode, then the next time it wakes up the picture is blurry again...
I am at a loss what to do (it wasnt doing this via the HDMI connection to the TV - unfortunately though I have run out of HDMI connections to the TV).
    cheers
    steve

Hi Winston, thanks for the reply.
I'm currently running 720p resolution, but this issue occurs no matter what resolution I set the ATV to.
I'm sure it's not a protected content issue because it does work fine on all my content at times...then at other times I experience the bluriiness on the same content.
When the blurrines occurs, it's not just the content but all of the ATV menu's themselves have the same issue.
    cheers

  • Video Output from compressor is still fuzzy and delayed on my site

My web video output is choppy and pixelated and I'm shooting on an excellent HD camera 1080i
I setup compressor for HD 564X960 and the output is 78Mb (this is a 1 minute and 32 seconds video)
I then us flash to convert it to a Flash 8 high quality flv
the result is crap. Its blurred and choppy on my site. I just watched the HD presentation on the new SDK for iPhone and the window was huge and the quality was fantastic?

Ok, a number of problems here.
First are you using Compressor to compress your video, then Flash to compress it again to a FLV? If so, that is causing a lot of your problems right there. You are double compressing a video (never a good idea). Take you uncompressed video file into Flash and create your FLV.
Second, you are using Flash to compress your video. Flash is horrible at compression. Sorenson Squeeze will produce much better results. Or if you are creating H.264 files, just use Compressor to create a H.264 file and then change the extension to .flv
Finally, if the quality is bad then you might need to increase the bitrate. What did you set your bitrate to?

  • No video mirroring AppleTV ver 2 or 3 from new Macbook Air (very latest)

I have both a 2nd gen and 3rd gen apple TV and a brand new Macbook Air with Mountain Lion plus all updates installed on all devices. I can see both Apple TVs in myAirplay menu and can select either one. In both cases the sound works but the TV video goes blank and then later returns to the screensaver while the sound continues to stream. I have tried every possible resolution setting and nothing seems to work. The Apple TVs have hardwired ethernet and the Macbook Air is using wireless through my Airport Extreme (less than six months old).
Any ideas on what the problem is or how to resolve?

I'm in a similar boat to you, wondering whether I should replace my 2006 MBP 2.4 C2D 4Gb/160Gb with the top spec 13" MBA, or wait unti the next MBP refresh at the end of the year / begining of 2012.
FWIW, I think for your needs a MBA would probably do the job quite admirably... it should be able to handle rippng and Handbrake with no problems (faster than your current set up, but not as fast as a MBP).
I guess the real test is how well it can handle HD editing. I'm sure it will be fine for the occasional use, but then again a MBP would be better.
Personally though, I think you'd probably get more use and life out of a MBP. Mine is still going strong and it is more than adequate for my daily uses, but it's time for a change anyway.

  • No video output from MacBook Air micro DVI to Polaroid HDTV via DVI to HDMI

Grrr! What's going on? The Apple online store finally sent me a micro DVI to DVI adapter and a DVI to HDMI adapter cable as well as headphone output to RCA adapter cables (for separate audio, since DVI will not transmit audio) and I hooked it up and - NOTHING! When I initialize the appropriate input setting on the Polaroid 27"HDTV the MacBook Air seems to get some sort of query signal as its screen flickers for a moment and turns to a grey screen for a couple seconds but then, that's it! Nothing! The Polaroid's screensaver remains and no signal, audio or video, is transmitted. Now, the micro DVI to DVI adapter is Apple proprietary so I don't think it is a DRM related issue where the chip might block the video signal coming out of the MacBook Air. The longer, DVI to HDMI adapter cable is by Belkin. Am I overlooking something? Could the new 27" Polaroid HDTV not be compatible with DRM protocol? I don't think so since all digital TVs equipped with an HDMI input are supposed to have DRM compatibility built in. What gives?

Well, BSteely, where to begin? After my extensive discussions with more than one support engineer at Apple in Toronto as well as in Austin an interesting picture is emerging. Seems that I'd omitted a few things: First, I was not trying to display HD content but rather standard definition content. Second, I made the mistake hoping for an elegant and easy solution in hookup via HDMI (new flatscreens don't even have a DVI port anymore) - bad mistake! As one of the technicians put it, HDMI is an "unsettled" platform when it comes to HDCP, currently in version 1.4 , meaning, I should have tried VGA instead, a "settled" platform after all. Now, whether this will work remains to be seen because I don't have a micro DVI to VGA adapter yet but suffice to say that in essence I've been getting the message from Apple that, yes, the MacBook Air will - in the near future - support HDCP, but for now it does not contain the necessary software simply because HDMI is in its forth incarnation; plus, as they put it, Apple can't be responsible for testing compatibility with every single HD television set on the market - while it is true that there are thousands in existence, at the same time there are only four versions of HDMI with different HDCP specs! So, while I may be partially answering my own query here, it seems that Apple at this point is not particularly eager to make this software available because they rather would like to sell their new displays with the micro DVI ports instead of us endusers being able to hook the computer video signal up to just ANY monitor or TV. In the end, it is my hope that they will reconsider and not forget who their customers are, maybe after the Christmas season....

  • AirPlay fails on embeded youtube video (livestream) from New iPad to Latest gen AppleTV.

    Hello,
I just purchased a new Apple Tv (03/24/2014) and tried to airplay an embeded youtube video from Safari and Chrome on my iPad and received an error. Airplay is working fine from the youtube app, and other apps as well. I've done some poking around and wasn't able to find any concrete answers as to why it's not working. Apparently this used to work prior to sometime in August (not sure exactly when) of 2013. Any helo would be much appreciated are this is one of the main reasons I purchased the Apple Tv.

    Hi IntroMike.
Take a look at this URL in the XBMC forum.
    http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=179961&page=36
This discusses the issue you are seeing. It seems to be specific to the Youtube app and some embeded videos.
There is no known solution at this time apparently.

  • Video Output from 15in MBP

    Hi All,
I am looking for a way to output video from my 15in MBP to a ViewCast GoStream(has component and s-video inputs). Currently, the only solution I have found is the Matrox MXO, which would work, but before I go and spend a whole grand to buy it, I was wondering if there were any cheaper alternatives.
    Thanks in advance!
    Matrox MXO - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/434990-REG/MatroxMXON_MXO_External_HDand.html

    Hi -
Is your 15" MBP old enough to have an express34 card slot?
If so, take a look at the Matrox Mini, or a more ruggedized version, the Matrox LE:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/618347-REG/MatroxMXO2_MINIL.html
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/650569-REG/MatroxMXO2LE_NL.html
If you have a current MBP, then your options are limited - which is why many lament the passing of the express34 card slot.
    Hope this helps
