TV with Media Centre

First of all i cant believe you cant talk to anyone at MSI on the phone what the hell is that all about.
I have a Mega 856 Pro PC with MS Media Centre 2005 and a Mega MSI TV Card.
when u select TV in set up on the media centre it says there isnt one, and the tv program u get with the card, starts to tune in some channels that look rubbish but u cant select anything. Can anyone help at all before i go mad.

MCE 2005 is very picky.. I just installed it on my Mega 180 2 days ago. It wouldn't work with the MSI 8606 tuner.. so I went with the AVerMedia M150 card. Its cheap (about $55 on Newegg.com).  Then, the tricky part is finding a MPEG2 decoder that will work with the Windows XP MCE 2005 operating system. I went thru almost all my programs I had and finally Cyberlink's PowerDVD 6 v1102 worked flawlessly. I have the Microsoft MCE remote ($29.99) and everything working perfect. It sure beats the original Mega remote and Media Center Deluxe III.. I love it so far.
So what you need to do is just get a compadible TV Tuner. Stick by exactly what it says on the Microsoft website, or else u will run into conflicts. Also stick with what it says on their site about video cards and DVD Decoder codecs. Those happened to be the main issues for nearly everyone I talked to.

  • MSI MEGA 180 Media Centre Full Screen Button

I have a MEGA 180 with Media Centre III and was wondering if there was a button on the remote that does full screen instead of having to start the item you wish then trying to navigate to the button and pressing ok?
This is for the sections such as MP3 mode for the visulisations or Video Clip mode for full screen home movies.
I have tried all of the buttons but none of them seem to work.
    Any help would be apprecitated
    Cheers.

That makes the MCDIII run in full screen, but the video (etc) still runs in a window inside the MCDIII App. The only ways I found were to set the settings to auto maximise the display, or to press the button to the bottom right of the picture. Also I found there was no way of getting back to menu mode without using the keyboard (unless you were prepared to navigate the buttons without seeing them!!!).
This made MCDIII totaly unsuitable as a remote controlled application, and hence I binned it. I now use MediaPortal which works well. Just need to find a better way of getting the DVD filters to work.

  • I can't syn my 2nd gen nano work with Windows XP Media Centre Edition (SP2)

I recently got a new computer with Windows XP Media Centre Edition (SP2) and a 2nd gen Nano. I have the latest version of itunes but when I plug in the Nano it won't sync.
The Nano is nowhere to be seen in itunes and shows in My Computer with an exclamation mark over it. The only thing it will do is charge.
The Nano syncs on my sisters computer which has Windows XP (SP1) and other devices work on the USB ports on my computer.
Does anyone have a clue what is wrong or what I can do.
I've had the Nano for nearly four months now and it's driving me mad!!!

    Problem solved:
I used driver guide to download usbstor.sys and usbstor.inf then placed these files in my i386 folder. Then when I restarted my PC and connected my iPod I selected the i386 folder as the location to search for drivers. After that it recognised my iPod as a storage device and installed it.

  • Media Centre and Networking with TimeCapsule

    Hi
I am looking at buying a mac mini as a desktop and also to probably use a media centre also at some point in the near future. I am also intending to get a macbook to use as a laptop / replacement for mini as and when I use it as media centre.
Given I will have 3 computers on the go if I keep my currently old Imac running, I was wondering on the best way to keep everything nicely shared. This is where I thought to use the TimeCapsule to store all the files I am likely to share across the 3 computers.
Is this a good idea or are there superior alternatives to using a TimeCapsule as a 'server'? Are there issues in programs such as iTunes on each machine mapping to 1 shared source for the file?
If this approach is a good one, is it worth my money / effort in getting the 320gb HD or even installing a 500gb 7200rpm HD in the mini if the majority of storage will take place on the TimeCapsule?
Given the sort of use I have in mind for the mini, would I notice the difference if I went for the 2.26 processer and better graphics card?
Think that is all for now, but may be back. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

which iMac do you have, how big is the drive? could you plug in an external drive & ethernet cable from the iMac direct to router? if so, this would save on the TC.

Try it with the iMac first.

You can only have 1 system which can have the iTunes library open directly at any given time. if iTunes is left open on the iMac 24/7, you can then see it as a shared library. iTunes 9 is suppose to be even better with this.
Given the sort of use I have in mind for the mini, would I notice the difference if I went for the 2.26 processer and better graphics card?
for the cost, not sure the .26 is that much of an upgrade. the graphics are NOT upgradeable, you only have the 9400.
also, with the price drop & hacks available, you could pickup an AppleTv instead. it would still talk to the old imac with the library.

  • Webcam compatability with XP Media Centre Edition 2005

Can anyone tell me which webcams are compatable with XP Media Centre Edition 2005.

Media Centre Edition is laid out so that it is really simple
and easy to play videos and listen to music. I would stick with XP
as it works and isn't anywhere near as hungry as Vista.

  • G5 as a media centre?

I"m getting a used dual 2.0ghz G5 tomorrow and am planning to use it as my media centre. I'm using my Samsung LCD 26" tv as the display and plan to network it to my imac wireless with the airport.
Is there anything else any recommends? Any pitfalls? Is Dvi to DVI the way to go?
    Thanks in advance.
    Andrew

I use my G5 as a media centre, and it's in the office.
However I use Elgato's eyeHome to stream my media to the TV in the front room via my wireless network.
This means that the G5 is not taking up space or making excessive noise.
eyeHome will work even if you don't use eyeTV (which I do).

  • How can I set up a wireless network between two Mac Mini's (media centres)?

I've just received my second mac mini (core duo, 1.83, 1 Gb ram)and want to set up a wireless network to link this with my original mac mini (PPC 1.42, 512MB) and my Belkin wireless router (g std).
I'm using both as media centres in different rooms and want to keep all my media (films, photo's, music etc.) on one mini (connected to a 640GB external drive) and access it over the wireless network. Sort of a more felxible Apple TV setup??
I've got the wireless network working no problems with both mini's connected to the internet over the network but I'm stuck at how I get the two mini's to see each other. I've tried "the Missing Manual" and these forums but no success so far.
I know it can be done but would really appreciate any suggestions/directions on what to do?
    Thanks in advance<<br>

  • My MacBook cannot resolve the alias when attempting to connect to LAN wired devices (WD Live Media Centre), and says operation can't be comp-leted because the original item can't be found.???

I have 2 WD Live Media Centre devices hard-wired on my LAN. My MacBook can find these devices on the network, but when it tries to access the USB drive which is attached to the media centres, a message says the Mac it "resolving the alias to USB drive", but then says operation can't be completed because the roiginal item (USB Drive) can't be found. My PC, which is also hard-wired on the network, has no problem accessing these USB drives. Is there some adjustment I need to make?

Well, try this (I was able to fix my with these steps):
    Go Utilities > Disk Utility
Select your Startup Disk, e.g. Macintosh HD
Then, under the First Aid Tab, click Verify Disk Permissions.
If there are errors, then click repair Disk Permissions.
After it is done, restart the computer and see if your problem is resolved.
    I hope this help.

Sadly I do not have a TV Tuner Card. I run Windows Vista Home Premium (x64). It is also a custom computer I built. But based on the replies it's suggesting I need one? That a simple USB connection between the two will not be sufficient?
I dont think that your cable box can stream contents thru its USB ports, that wont work. Also check your video card s-video plug, most likely it's video out only (for TV monitor). You need some kind of input device for your pc to be able to connect it to your cable box, either a TV tuner card, a capture card (usb or pci card) etc.

  • Front Row - Mac Mini - and PowerBook G4, Mac-Mini Multi Media centre.

I will be purchasing a HDTV is the near future and would like to buy a Mac Mini to complement it. ( then sell my DVD player )
    The big question are:
-Can I ( using Front Row ) stream AVI data (film) from my PB G4 to my Mac-Mini and watch the content on my new HDTV. ( over AirPort )
-Do I need to buy a new PB that also has Front Row ? ( I hope not )
-What type of video data can I stream ? (iTunes and iPhoto I already know about)
-What about HD DVD's when they come out. Is the drive in the Mac-Mini HD DVD compatible ?( I don't think so )
Please - If you have any other relevant points or question's about the Mac-Mini usage as a multi media centre, Post them here.
    15" PB G4 SD 1.5 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I just tried a AVI film and it work's with QT,
although a mpg film did not.
Now that I think about it, I tried a mpg plug-in for
    QT and was disappointed.
Has anyone had any success with such a plug-in ?
    Another Question:
Must then this AVI data reside in iTunes for
Front-Row to "see" it ? How does this work ?
I guess that when a Blue-Ray drive is added to Apple
products that a HD DVD will not play, or will it play
it but only burn Blue-Ray ?
When shopping for a HDTV I asked about the difference
in Blue-Ray and HD and he told me that the TV will
    play both versions.
I hope that the drive will also play both, although
the way I know Apple it will be Blue-Ray only. (
    at-least in the beginning ) Remember DVD-R
i would not worry about the blu-ray - HD-DVD thing right now. too much still in the air. once they realize consumers are too un-techie to figure it out and just continue to buy DVD's their will be a standard plus their is already other formats being developed. then if you talking about movies and such my guess is downloaded content is the way apple will go with an itunes movie store but thats my guess.
but yes, HDTV's will play either, its the player. I have a 61" samsung 720p DLP and my new mac mini looks good on it at 1280x720. front row is great. I also watched a ton of HD trailers from quicktime's website and they were amazing.
and from what i have seen from front row it only shows content that is in itunes or iphoto not random folders but i could be wrong, still palying around with it.

  • Qosmio G20: Media Centre Receiver issue - Recovery question

As abvoe really, I usually leave my computer running overnight and yesterday I went on it to find that I had 80mb of hard drive space left (60 gig hard drive). Error messages had been popping up and a record of these was saved in the pchealth folder, under userdumps, or something like that. Anyway I deleted 58gigs worth of these userdumps but the same error message kept cropping up.
It was an error with the Media Centre Receiver, but I'm not sure entirely what this is, but it was based in the ehome folder which I think is located in the main Windows folder.
I've been into msconfig and stopped the ehhome.exe from starting at at startup but that seems to mess up the video/tv settings within Media Centre.
I recently installed codec's and a divx player to play divx movies.
I just wondered wether it would be safer to use the recovery CD and re-install windows and the software and create a restore point, then install the codecs again to see if the same problem arises, or whether anyone has had this problem and cured it.
Finally, I did actually run the recovery cd with a view to doing the above, but when the cd boots the first line in dos says something like, 'running setup for windows 98'. Surely XP is on the recovery cd and not 98?
Can anybody please confirm this for me and any answers to the above problems.
    Thanks.

    Hi Simon
Please dont panic. On recovery DVD there is definitely WXP MCE and if you see the first few words where is written Win98 that doesnt mean anything specially. If you use recovery media you will make clean OS installation.
Now to your problem: I didnt understood you right which problem you have but the fact is when you record the TV program all the night it is possible that the HDD will be full. In the best quality one hour recorded material needs about 12 GB (in my case). If it runs a few hours the HDD will be full.
It is not easy to give you any precise answers because we dont know anything about your personal settings and preinstalled software. I have also G20 and I can tell you definitely that all recorded content will not be saver under PCHEALTH folder. How it happen in your case I really dont know.
    Good luck!

  • Mac Mini v iMac as Media Centre

Quick question (sorry - being a pest today)
I already have a powerbook G4 (which I'll upgrade in a year or so) but I was all set to buy a mac mini for use as a media centre with Front Row to play my DVDs, movie files, iTunes stuff etc.
However, I'm just seeing that the iMacs are not that much more expensive plus they are higher spec.
Is there any particular reason why I should pick the mac mini over the imac as a media centre (other than that it is cheaper)?
I'm just thinking that it would be handy having the imac display on for running the main stuff in front row etc, then when I want to watch a video, I just play it on the second display attached to the iMac (ie my 32" LCD TV). I would leave th iMac running 24/7, never sleeping, with just the display sleeping, and set up EyeTV on the iMac etc.....
    Any comments?
    David

Hello again! I have an Intel iMac set-up as my "media center" now. One thing to keep in mind about the iMac is the fact that it has a built-in screen. Front Row will only display on the "main" display (the display that contains the Dock and menu bar) if you have two screens. If you want your Front Row to display on the TV, it will have be the "main" display or it will have to "mirror" the main display. For me, with the HDTV and the computer only five feet apart, it's a little annoying to see the same thing displayed on both screens at the same time (with mirroring turned on) and the audio coming out from behind the TV (where the stereo is centered). I don't really want the Dock and menubar to appear on the TV and not the iMac's screen when I'm actually using the iMac as a computer and switching the two around got a bit frustrating for me.
Both the DVD Player application and the EyeTV software can display the video on a separate screen, but Front Row has no preferences to change, so you can't tell it to display on the other screen. So, depending on your physical arrangement of the two screens, this may or may not be an issue for you.
The Mac mini would only be able to have the TV as the display. As long as you're not looking to browse the Web and do e-mail on the Mac mini, an HDTV should make a very good display for your media. Mac OS X 10.4 allows you to turn on VNC sharing so you could download some free software to remote control your Mac mini from the PowerBook when you needed to do something that the Apple remote can't control. But, you will need a keyboard and mouse to set it up the very first time.
So, if you're only looking for a media center and not a complete desktop computer, the Mac mini is a good option. The iMac should be able to handle the job well, but depending on your physical situation, you may or may not encounter some slightly annoying configurations. Since Front Row will be included for all compatible Macs when Mac OS X 10.5 ships, we might hope there'll be an update for Front Row that will allow you to select which screen Front Row displays on. But, that remains to be seen.

If syncing contacts from a Cloud service or a supported application on the computer, remove the groups there.
There is no functionality for the user to initiate sending contacts in iOS.  If the head unit support PBAP, the contacts sync automatically when connecting to the head unit.
