TV won't play audio

I have all my cables hooked up. My mini-dvi to HDMI and my audio cord. They are all in the correct spots. I am getting video but no audio. Are there different types of audio cords? I have a mid 2007 Macbook if that helps. Or would I have to hook up the audio cord to separate speakers?

When you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs.
The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. Check your TV manual though to see if it might have audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.

IOS 6.0.1 Safari won't play audio files. Error: "Cannot play audio file."

I recently updated my iPad to iOS 6.0.1, now Safari won't play audio files in any format. Error: "Cannot play audio file." Previously, it worked fine. I tried downloading and using GoogleChrome and Opera Mini, and these also won't play audio. What's up??

Solved the problem. It seems that once iOS 6.0.1 installed, it caused all of my browsers to mishandle audio files. When I reset the iPad, that cleared up the problem.
Before upgrading to iOS 6, my browsers would "autoplay" the sound files. After iOS 6, "autoplay" is disabled so you have to manually click play to play them.
Nonetheless, everything is working fine again except for "autoplay," which I can live with.

Elements 11 won't play audio mp3 from within slide show

I've created a slide show and have attempted to insert an audio mp3 file. Audio file shows that it has been added to slide show but it wil not play.
I've added the mp3 multiple ways, by using the add media -- audio from element organizer as well as by add media ---audio from file but it won't play
MP3 plays fine when I click on it from the organizer.
I've tested the mp3's that came with elements 11 and they play fine. What's the deal?

Is it from within the iTunes library? Try deleting album art and then adding the track again.

ITunes won't play audio with mp4 or mov video

I have wasted many frustrating hours now trying to get iTunes to play mp4 and mov videos but can't get any sound. A few months back it was working fine. Tried ALL the suggested fixes like uninstalling, updating and checking all the MIME/File boxes. When I went back to QT 7.5 and played the files independently of iTunes everything was fine. Quicktime 7.6, 7.67 & 7.7.1 do not play the audio independently or under iTunes and of course iTunes won't play video with QT less than 7.7.1. The same mp4 videos uploaded to my iPOD work fine. I currently have iTunes 10.5.3.3 installed on a Windows XP SP3 on an e-machines pc. Ideas please!!

I got this problem as well. Seems as soon as I moved to version 7.6 it stopped playing my video audio. My music plays fine, but my video audio is non-existant. It's not the file itself because I can play off my iPod (though not off my iPod through iTunes) just fine. I've done all the suggestions above and NOTHING has worked. Is there anything else we can find???

MacBook won't play audio/video

My MacBook won't play any audio or video. It also won't open iMovie and when I try to open a photo in iPhoto/Preview, it goes blank. I have tried updating it, reinstalling the flash, using firefox/google chrome etc. I have no idea what is causing this. Is there a way to fix it without having to actually take it into the Apple store? I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks in advance!

QuickTime 7 Audio Issue (Won't play audio in certain video clips)

I'm having a problem getting audio to play with clips in QuickTime 7, and it doesn't play at all in iDVD when I drag a clip in to burn a DVD. I'm also having problems getting Final Cut Pro to play audio from time to time. Is this being caused by a recent Apple security update or is there something else going on?

I have downloaded another persons inquiry because it is exactly the problem I am having. Here is his post
"I make movies of cells and convert them to quick time and insert them into powerpoint for presentations for conferences. I never had a problem with this until I upgraded to office 2004 and now many (but not all) of my movies won't play. They seem to be there but when I click play they go white as though there is only the first image. I had saved them as cinepak and or jpeg A usually with image J or older ones from the original NIH image and I can't figure out what the problem is. I even upgraded to quicktime pro to resave them as self contained but still they don't work when I insert them. I can play them all with quicktime player and when I make new ones now in image j I save them as video and that seems to work but it would be very difficult to go back and do that with everything. Does anyone know why or how to fix this?"
My additional comments would be I used the Sample_iTunes.mov from QT and it plays like a champ in PPT. My movies are all from 2004. When I save them in the QT 7.1.3 it doesn't seem to make any difference. The older movies insert into PPT as a QT icon with 4 color quadriant. Everything including .swf are now working in QT. Thanks for your help. When I go back to 7.0.3 they work but then I can't play my videos in iTunes unless I do an erase and a reinstall to get rid of the updated iTunes. Thanks

80G won't play audio books or restore

I’m the owner of a week old 80G iPod which seemed ok till today. New up to date Win iTunes. Now I try to listen to any audio book that worked yesterday. The iPod seems to go into a auto reset operation, with the apple symbol showing, then returns to the select operation mode. I’ve tried listening more than a dozen times to several different audio books with the same results. All musical MP3s play fine. I tried manual reset with no positive results.
I tried RESTORE but constantly get a error message that it can’t connect to the server because I need to be connected to the internet??????????? I connect to the Apple store and other sites with no problem. I went to MY computer and tried a quick format and it did nothing, I probably should be grateful!
I just installed another 390Meg book which installed fine but again won’t play. It will not eject using iTunes or My computer saying it’s in use??????? I've shut it off for various times with the same results.
HELP I need some direction before I zap it totally. TYIA VIC

Captured video won't play audio

Hi, I hope someone can help! I'm very new to FCE4. When I capture digital video the audio won't play back in either the viewer or time line. The audio has captured though as I can play the clips in quick time or ITunes. Is there a setting for this or do you think it's a fault?

Make sure you have Canvas Playback enabled. From the FCE menu bar, select View>Video Out>Canvas Playback.

Hp Pavilion dv7 won't play audio through HDMI

Hi i recently noticed my Pavilion dv7 entertainment notebook won't play sound through the tv anymore. The picture is on the tv but sound is running through the laptop speakers? I never had a problem with this until now. When i open up the sound options, the ATI HDMI output says it's not connected and so it wont let me select it, but it is connected? Please help?

Try using Recovery Manager to reinstall your AMD Graphics Driver package as this will also reinstall the AMD HDMI Audio driver- the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the relevant document on the link below.
Recovery Manager - Windows 8.
Recovery Manager - Windows 7
Recovery Manager - Windows Vista
After the reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.

FCO 10.2 won't play audio. Was fine in 10.1.4, projects open fine, the meter shows it playing, made all correct connections in Inspector, but no sound to system?

Since upgrading to FCP 10.2 from 10.1.4, I'm now not able to get sound even though it shows it's playing in the meter. The clip is a .wav 48k, I have highlighted the audio, gone into the Inspector, chosen Audio, in Pan Mode I've chosen Stereo Left/Right and made sure Stereo is selected on the file in the Channel Configuration. Solo does not help nor is skimming available.
All other audio apps are fine including Quicktime.
Also, I triedstarting a new Project and Importing audio, but the same result. Please let me know what I'm missing.
Is there a way to rollback to 10.1.4 to finish this project?

In reading through the posts, I see you have had answers to many issues so perhaps you help with this :
In 10.1.4, I had used an FX Factory effect for scrolling credits and now it won't play back on 10.2. If I highlight the clip, I have the ability to edit the text, but it won't play- any help is appreciated.
Is there a way to rollback to 10.1.4 to finish this project?

IMAC won't play audio CD's

iMAC MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-875 won;t read audio CD's. Reads DVD's and data CD's fine, but won't read/play audio CD's. Insert an audio CD, whirls around a bit then spits it back out after about 10 seconds.

I had just cleaned out the garage, closets, etc and have a mountain of CD's ready to convert to MP3's. It's incredibly frustrating to say the least. Anyone know what they charge at the Apple store? Do they charge just to diagnose the problem?

I think both of these sites have apps. That will fix a lot.
Generally, streaming video is often encoded with Flash. Flash and Apple have not and will never play well together so it's not supported.
For your needs, the CNN app (which I'm sure they have) and the youtube app will be your easiest thing to get and use.

IMovie insertion of music won't play audio

I am trying to insert music into my imovie project and I can't hear the audio. All the other tracts that I inserted are playing fine but not this one. Any other songs
I try to insert won't pay either? I checked to see if things were muted but it doesn't seem like they are. Any ideas?

Okay, mine now works here is what I did.
plug in the iPhone, iPad etc
in iTunes select the phone or iPad
Under Summary uncheck "Sync with this....."
Under "Music" uncheck the "Sync Music"
Sync
Let it remove all the songs, dont worry it will come back no problems.
Once that is all done all the music on the phone or ipad should be gone.
Now check them both back on, sync, and everything should copy back onto it.
Working now !!!!!

Windows 7 on dial-up won't play audio files

My brand new Compaq Presario CQ5320F running Windows 7 (64 bit) connecting to the internet with dial-up will not play many archived audio shows I like to listen to. Different sites have different set ups. The only sites that play properly have a STREAM button. Other sites just have a link to click. Some of these will only play after the whole show has 'downloaded' which does not work for me (I need to listen to the beginning of the show to know if I even want to hear it). Others sites with a link to click never seem to get connected as 'connecting' keeps displaying and nothing ever happens (even if I wait forever). This is all using Windows Media Player that came with the computer. On my old computer running ME I often went to the properties tab of an audio link and then pasted this in the media player. I decided to try this with my new computer but I can not find a place to put a URL address in this new version of WMP. Plus I am unable to fast forward a show with this new version (which I currently am inclined to think s....ks). Since I am using dial-up would I be better off removing this new version and replacing it with an old one, or is there some way to get it to work?

So the Bootcamp 4.0 drivers won't work with my 2008 iMac? I'm running 3.3 then, and the problem persists.
I've just tried uninstalling the RealTek drivers; Windows seems to auto-install a "High Definition Audio Device" that DOES play sounds through the headphones... albeit incredibly quietly. Barely perceptible at full volume. I've tried to install the Cirrus drivers from the 4.0 Bootcamp disk; they claim to install correctly (in less than a second, which makes me skeptical), but they still don't appear.
It seems I can have Realtek and no headphones, or no Realtek and minimal sound...

IPhone 5 won't play audio over Bluetooth in 2012 Lexus GX 460

My iPhone 5 can connect via Bluetooth to my 2012 Lexus GX460. I can make and receive calls over car speaker/Bluetooth.
However, when I attempt to connect and play music, it says Bluetooth connection failed -- Please see portable player settings.
Are there new settings on the iPhone to have the audio played over Bluetooth?
My iPhone 4S and 4 worked perfectly. Now, the iPhone 5 has issues.
I have tried this:
1. Removed the phone from the GX 460
2. Added the phone back using password
3. Says it is connected and I can make/receive calls
Since the audio did not work, I tried:
1. Turned off Bluetooth on the iPhone
2. Turned off the iPhone
3. Removed the phone from the GX 460
4. Turned off the GX 460
5. Started the GX 460
6. Turned on the iPhone
7. Turned on Bluetooth
8. Paired the phone with the GX 460
9. Calls can be made/received, but audio still does not connect
Lexus has not returned any calls/messages on this one -- hoping someone may have an answer.

Had this problem in my 2012 IS F. Fixed it by going to 'SETUP' -> 'Audio' -> BLuetooth settings. Deleted the existing pairings and then repaired my phone. Bingo!
