Tvtime gets dim on openbox

I'm done with gnome-shell so I switched to openbox and now I experience a strange phenomena.
After 10-15 sec tvtime and just this only window gets dim as if a gremlin would have decreased brightness. Restarting tvtime repeats the events.
Any idea? I'm totally clueless. Anyway, I use cairo-compmgr 1:git20111002-1 in case it has any impact on this bug. Could it be a package missing since I removed some with gnome-shell e.g. consolekit. Then I didn't understand why slim couldn't launch openbox.

Well, I've found the problem, it's the freeze plugin. Seems cairo thinks tvtime is an onscured window. Pfff.
I'll check this package from AUR as it seems there's a newer version.
How can I check whether there is a newer version or not on git?

Screen gets dim

After not touching my mouse or keyboard for two minutes then screen gets dim. Then when I touch the mouse or keyboard again the screen goes back to normal brightness.
Is there a setting I can change to make the brightness stay the same. I looked in the preferences for energy saver and desktop & screen saver, but couldn't find anything.

I"m not sure that you can turn off that option. That very well maybe something related to the Energy Star rating. I just don't know. I've never played with the settings.
Is there a reason that it's a bother? Are you reading text as the screen dims? You might want to use something like Jiggler to keep you cursor moving while you're doing whatever and keep your screen "live."

It sounds like your sleep timers are set to too low of a value. Go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver and set both timers to longer times. The computer sleep timer should be a longer time than the display sleep timer.

Get notifications in openbox?

hello everybody, i've installed openbox in my arch box and i've been configuring for a few days, but something i don't really know is.. can i get notifications like the song that starts playing in rhythmbox,new message from emesene, etc...
can i get this notifications in openbox?

Did you activate the notify plugins on both programs? Don't forget that you don't have osd notifications but the old ones, using libnotify.

Messages Don't Delete - the just get "dimmed"

I am now trying to use Mac Mail after like 15 years of Eudora in Windows. I have also switched my primary e-mail account from POP to IMAP in order to make it work better with my iPhone.
The transition is going reasonably smoothly, though it appears I have a l lot to learn, either about how IMAP works or about how MacMail works. For example, MacMail seems to keep creating e-mail boxes like "sent" and "deleted messages" and "drafts" in a way that I have yet to fully comprehend.
But the issue I'm writing about now is the weird way that MacMail deletes -- or doesn't delete messages.
For example: I'm done looking at a message that lives only in my "inbox." I delete the message. For a moment, it has disappeared. But then a moment later it reappears in the inbox, only the message header is dimmed. And then the next time I look, I see that the headers and messages are fully restored, like I had never deleted them at all.
This is getting a tad infuriating, my inbox is now filling up with messages that I have deleted. *** is going on here?
Why can't I just click "delete" on a message, and have it go away?

I think I just answered my own question.
I had changed one of the settings under the "general" preferences tab to "move deleted messages to the trash mailbox." I unchecked that selection and now when I delete a message, it's gone.
But, suppose I WANT to keep deleted messages in a "trash" folder, at least until the next time I close/reopen the mail program (that's how it worked with Eudora). Why does a message that I've relegated to the "trash" folder still show up in my inbox??

Urxvt won't get transparent with openbox, rgba and xcompmgr

Yesterday I had a nice working openbox setup with real transparency in urxvt using
Urxvt*background: rgba:0000/0000/0000/bbbb
in ~/.Xdefaults.
Then I did some fiddling around with vga boot options to get a nicer console, and realized the terminals in openbox was not transparent anymore. I thought of it as a framebuffer issue with the nvidia driver, and set everything back to normal again. That did nothing however, the urxvt was still not transparent.
Reinstalled arch this morning for the sake of it, but I still can't get urxvt transparent with xcompmgr. Compositing seems to work with drop shadows and transset, but not when using rgba for urxvt.
Any ideas what I've done wrong?
My Xorg.0.log shows no errors.

My screen gets dim and the brightness control buttons don't work

My screen is frequently dim. The brightness control buttons display that they are working, but the brightness doesn't actually change. Any ideas why and what I can do?

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually, I had tried that but still had to go into preferences any time I wanted it brighter. After I posted, I found a thread using some different keywords and found that people were having the same problem with OS versions up to 10.7.2 but solved it with the latest update (10.7.3). I just installed it and now seem to be able to adjust the brightness with my keyboard no problem. I appreciate your reply anyway!

Gnome-system-monitor not getting decorated properly (openbox)

If I run gnome-system-monitor it doesn't get decorated properly.

It just draws the titlebar as omni-transparent, takes whatever is beneath it at the moment it spawns and just gets garbled as soon as I move it.

gnome-system-monitor uses libgnomesu for this. It's a library that does the same things as sudo does.

Some of my macbook pro keys are getting dim, how can i fix these select keys because it is not the whole keyboard?

It is mainly the "i, o, p, k, and l" keys.

Get rid of tiny border in openbox

Hey there all,
if i undecorate a window openbox, there is still a tiny line around it.
in fluxbox, the toggle decor will remove it. undecorate gets close in openbox, but not all the way gone.
any ideas?

For future reference, you can disable this 1 pixel border by doing either of the following:
1. Run obconf, then go to the Appearance tab and untick the Windows retain a border when undecorated option.
2. Edit ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml and change <keepBorder>yes</keepBorder> to <keepBorder>no</keepBorder>

I tried to update my ipod 4th gen. but when I came to see how much charge the screen was red and it wasnt charged and i cant use my ipod. the screen turned blue also one time, and now the apple logo comes up and its bright then dim and it stays there help

I tried to update my iPod 4th generation while it was charging and when I came back to check on it the screen was red and it wouldnt go off, and my ipod wasnt charging like it was supposed to. I found out how to get the color of the screen off but my ipod always has the low battery thing and when I charge it sometimes the screen turns blue or the apple logo comes up bright and then it gets dim and stays there. My ipod wont turn on, and I really want it to work again. Help me please! Also, I noticed my ipod battery hasnt been lasting long as it should efore this happened.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Imac screen dims and two browser windows flicker.

Not sure how to explain this, but when I have two browser windows open, at random, they start to flicker and the whole screen gets dim.

I just noticed that when it happens, the mouse pointer stays with the hand icon.
Then when I move it to a window, that window goes dim.

Flat Panel Monitor Dimming

I have an iMac G4 Flat Panel monitor that keeps dimming itself to the lowest setting. This seems to happen when it goes to sleep. When the user awakens the iMac it stays dim and we have to go into System Preferences and choose monitor and then slide the brightness bar to the right.
Any ideas on how to stop it from getting Dim so many times during the day?

Try zapping the PRAM. The other option is to trash the file: Macintosh HD > Users > <your username> > Library > Preferences > com.apple.systempreferences.plist . This will clear your preferences but often solves issues regarding preferences as the system re-generates a new plist file. The best thing to do is just move the file to the trash and not delete it. If it doesn't clear your fault you can restore all your preferences by dragging it back.

The troubleshooting steps detailed below can help stabilize your iPhone.
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary.
