Twain Driver confuses with wrong scanner

I have two Brother MFC 8860DN on my network. I have had no problem scanning from my own Brother MFC. Then it had to go in for repair, and while it was away, I was printing and scanning to the other Brother printer. I am using MAC OS 10.6.x
Now it is back, I am able to print to my own Brother machine. However, when I go to scan, it will only scan from the other one. I have tried uninstalling the printer drivers (there is only one Brother printer installed currently) and even reinstalled the scanner driver from Brother's website. No matter what I do, I cannot get it to scan from my own machine.
I tried unplugging the other machine, but then I just get a message from Adobe that it cannot find the scanner.
However, when I go the System Preferences, and I go to the scan utility, Mac OS scans directly from my own scanner! Adobe does not.
Help me please!
Jonathan

I have figured it out and it isn't so easy to find! Brother has a Control Center that is installed on the computer. It looks like this:
Under the model name, on the top left, when you choose the drop down menu, you should see this:
Click on OTHER, and it will bring you to the next dialog box:
Where the IP address is specified - that needs to be changed to the correct machine. Once I did that, it scanned perfectly.
Strange because this did not affect printing. Probably because each driver is separate for each printer. But there is not multiple drivers for the same scanner.
Thanks for your help anyways.

  • Photoshop CS4 - TWAIN driver for my Epson Perfection 3200 scanner

I have been attempting to find, download and install a version of the TWAIN driver for the Epson Perfection 3200 Photo scanner.  I need a version that will work with the Mac OSX 10.6.7 operatinging system and Adobe Photoshop CS4.  I have already exhausted all efforts to get an appropriate driver from Epson and they suggested I see if Adobe didn't have one that would install into the Import/Export folder of CS4.  Can you help?

    Short answer:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405072.html
forget twain and scanning through Photoshop (keep working in Photoshop while you scan by scanning in the manufacturer's scanning app, or try VUESCAN free scanning software)
note that Ps runs in 64 bit by default and many scanner plugins conflict because they are 32bit and buggy so if your scanner pluging is 32 bit, you need to run Ps in 32 bit if you want to the TWAIN door (again, not recommended, and it's been discussed here many times, probably why your post hit air)

  • Twain Driver...for Canon Scanner

I am trying to get my Canon 8400F to work with my HP computer using Windows 8.  I've had many problems with this operating system and had to completely restore my computer a little while back.  I'm finding the issue of drivers quite problematic really...Anyway, I understand that I need a TWAIN driver....I hate having to install these driver update applications because they are of no help and one of them caused me great trouble when I updated one driver.  Can someone please help?
(My old HP laptop died last week and I really want to use my scanner)

    Hi,
Canon Scanner is from a company called Canon. The following link shows it is only compatible with Windows 7:
        http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_8400f
Please try the following setup for Windows 8:

    Good luck.

  • Scanning Documents From File Center from HP Officejet Pro 6830 Not Working with Twain Driver

I just purchased a HP Officejet Pro 6830 All-In-One printer and planned to use it to scan from Filecenter (Lucion Technologies) using TWAIN driver. The Twain driver for the HP shows up in Filecenter, but the scan produces a blank document. My previous All-In-One printer from Dell (Lexmark) scanned to this software with no issues. Are there any solutions to this issue?  Filecenter has different scan modes A and B and Transfer type (Native, Memory and File) and I tried all 6 options and none worked.

    Hi @cyclebob ,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Hi, I had updated folder on my hard drive wich was wrongly replaced with a folder from my external drive. I m not using time machine. How can i recover that updated folder? (it was done on 3-5-12)

If the folder was replaced, it was written over.
Nothing short of forensic data recovery (probably involving taking the drive apart to scan the discs seperately) is going to recover anything (if indeed even that will).

  • USB redirection with Canon scanner -- driver must be reinstalled

I am trying to get a Canon DR-M140 scanner to work through Remote Desktop USB Redirection.
When connecting the scanner through USB Redirection to a Windows Server 2012 R2 remote desktop session, the scanner device appears in the remote session's device list, but the TWAIN driver does not load. The scanner appears as an "unknown" device
and the properties dilalog shows "Device status: Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)" However, reinstalling the drivers has no effect.
    Repro steps:
    - Windows Server 2012 R2 server
    - Windows 8.1 Pro client
    - M140DRIT_V12SP1 driver package installed on both server and client
    - RemoteFX USB Redirection group policy enabled on client
    - CANON DR-M140 checked in mstsc devices tab
    - Connect to server
    - Open Devices and Printers
    - CANON DR-M140 appears in Unspecified section
    - Double-clicking for properties and clicking Hardware tab shows "Device status: Reinstall the drivers for that device. (Code 18)"
Does anyone have specific or general advice on getting this to work?

First, I would like to confirm the following questions:
    1. Is there an exclamation mark or question mark in Device Manager after plugging the scanner? If so, please let me know.
    2. Which software is used on the machine to scan file, the built-in application or Canon software? When trying to use the application to scan, is there any error information?
At this stage, please download the Canon software and install it for a test.

  • Twain Driver

Just bought a new imac running snow leopard.
Lost my Photoshop Elements 6 on my old computer, so I was trying PE8 before purchasing.
Downloaded the proper twain drive from Epson, got a competing software program to scan, but for some reason PE 8 doesn't see the twain driver as a plug -in on the pull down.
    What am I doing wrong?

I don't think you want to develop a driver for a product that already has a driver.  Instead you want to use the Twain Toolkit to interface to an existing Twain driver.  See webpage below.  I would use either C++ or C# (not VBnet).
    http://twain.org/scanner-application-developers/specification-and-tools.html
    jdweng
I have a general driver(*.inf, *.sys) and DLL to interface with device.
I want to make TWAIN driver with these existing driver/DLL so that any imaging software which provides TWAIN interface can acquire image from device using our TWAIN driver.

  • HELP! Problem using HPSCAN.exe or TWAIN driver for HP Laserjet Pro cm1415fnw using Windows 7

I have been using the HP Laserjet Pro cm1415fnw for over a year without a problem.  At the time when I first purchased the unit, I was using a Dell desktop with Windows XP and connected the printer via USB port.  I was able to print and scan from my computer, including from within applications that use TWAIN scanning driver such as Word, Acrobat, etc.
I have since upgraded to an HP slimline s5-1160 computer using Windows 7.  I installed the Laserjet software from my installation CD's without a problem.  The printer is connected to the computer by USB port.  I can continue to print without a problem.  However, I no longer am able to scan using the HP software (HPscan.exe) nor from within applications that use TWAIN scanning driver such as Word, Acrobat, etc.  When I attempt to do so, it takes a long time before it asks me what TWAIN scan driver to select.  When I select the HP cm1410 MFP series, the program either crashes or reverts to the state it was before I attempted to scan an image into a document from within the program.
I can however scan successfully using the Windows Scan and Fax wizard or if I choose "Devices and Printers" from the Start Menu and select "Start scan" from the menu after right-clicking the HP printer icon.  However this option limits my use of the scanner -- I cannot scan to a PDF nor can I scan multiple pages into an OCR application.  I'm forced to scan to either a JPG or TIF or PNG.
As for attempting to resolve this problem I have done the following with no success:
Uninstall and reinstall the full software and drivers (and using the most recent version on the HP website)
    Change USB ports and/or cables
Run the HP scan diagnostic utility, which seems to show an error at the WIA scanning step and then recommends that I uuninstall and reinstall the full software.  When I skip that and allow it to check for TWAIN scanning, it gives me a similar error, suggesting that I use the most recent version of the drivers (the driver that I am using is v 3.0 dated 11/12/2009)  Therefore in this case the HP scan diagnostic utility does NOT provide a fix for this problem other than uninstall and reinstall, which I have done several times to no avail
Contact HP support both for the computer and the multifunction printer (which as I understand are different support staff).  The printer staff claims it's a software problem and that the computer staff should be able to resolve it (something about not having "launchpad" installed properly.  When I contact the computer staff, they claim it's a printer driver issue.  So I am at a standstill
I researched the HP support forums only to find from this link - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02661093&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4089468&tmp... - that if you cannot scan from HP software that you can use the programs that rely on WIA drivers (Windows Fax and Scan) which I already know I can do but implies that HP does NOT have a solution for how to scan using their own software!
My gut tells me that this is one of those problems that many others may have but for which there is no workable solution.  It's possible that during the course of uninstalling and reinstalling the software, remnants may remain behind that prevent proper functioning of the drivers, but without knowing how to specifically "clean" those remnants before reinstalling the software, I am at a loss.  Oh and by the way, I've also tried using CCleaner and Norton Registry Cleaner in an attempt to clean those remnants, but that effort didn't help.
My question is basically this... does anyone know of a fix around this problem or must I resign myself to using the Windows Fax and Scan wizard to scan in documents and images and forget about using TWAIN programs as HP seems to be suggesting?  I would think that given that I am using an HP printer/scanner along with an HP computer with Windows 7 that this problem should NOT be a problem!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Before attempting to install the printer on my computer (HP slimline s5-1160), I had been able to successfully install the printer previously on two other computers: a Lenovo T-410 laptop (work computer using Windows XP) and an HP Pavilion Elite HPE (wife's computer using Windows 7).
On those computers, I can use the TWAIN driver from within applications without a problem, and the HPSCAN.exe file works as well.  Both computers connect to the printer wirelessly.
It is while trying to install the printer on my home computer via USB that I am having all sorts of difficulty. I have also tried to connect my s5-1160 to the printer wirelessly from my computer. I also checked the Windows Services, and all seems fine there.  I also tried switching USB ports and cables.   Again, no luck with the scanning using TWAIN driver.
One other point: when I use the original installation CD that came with the printer to install on the s5-1160, the installation seems to stop when it says "Checking requirements for installation"  That didn't happen with the two other computers.   However, that problem doesn't happen the s5-1160 when I used the more recent version of the full software from the HP website.
Let me reiterate.  I have never had any problems with printing from any computer.  The scanner works fine from my s5-1160 if I resort to using the scanner and fax wizard using the WIA drivers.  What I am unable to do is to get the scanner to work from within an application using the TWAIN driver or if I use the native HP application (hpscan.exe).  Nothing seems to happen.   Because of that I cannot scan directly into a PDF.
And the only fix that the HP scan diagnostic utility continues to recommend is that I uninstall and reinstall the software.  It shows errors in the WIA scanning step and TWAIN step.
Is it possible that because of behind-the-scenes Windows updates that my s5-1160 is receiving that a software conflict is created that prevents the TWAIN driver from functioning properly?  Other than that I am at a loss to figure out why this is happening.

  • HP All-in-One Printer: any way to install the TWAIN driver only?

    I have an HP PSC 2355 all-in-one Printer/Scanner/Copier.
The Mac OSX software/drivers are a whopping 100MB in size. I really only want to print (which is no problem without installing all of their software) and scan (which I can't seem to do without installing the software.
I can't find a TWAIN driver (which I assume is what I need to scan) by itself. And the installation software doesn't give you a TWAIN-only choice
I've installed the HP software bundle on my old PowerBook (just got a MacBook), I really don't want to litter my new computer with all their useless "features"...
While this is probably a question for HP, thought I'd post it here.

You can try a program like VueScan.

  • Re: Satellite L70-A-13E and Win 8: Twain driver for built-in webcam required

    Hi,
My application require TWAIN DRIVER for Web Camera of Satellite L70-A-13E on Windows 8.1.
Would you please tell me how can I get it?
    regards
    Nevzat

The TWAIN driver is a software.
For example you want to take a picture from built-in web camera by using your application.
Your application accesses to web camera via twain driver.
Just like printer driver. With printer driver you can send your documents to printer via printer driver.
With the TWAIN driver you can access to WEB CAM and capture the picture and save the picture image
    yo your application.
Almost all of the external web cameras have TWAIN drivers. Twain driver is become defacto.
I asked the TWAIN driver here because my note book has built-in web camera.
I may access to built-in web camera via TWAIN drivers. Is the any way you know?
I have been using these TWAIN drivers over 20 years in my application.
For getting picture from camera or from scanner.
    Best regards

  • ICA driver for Canon MX512 scanner?

I've exhausted Canon Support, trying to get a Canon PIXMA MX512 multifunction printer/scanner/fax machine to work on my father-in-law's dual 2.0 GHz processorr PowerMac C5.  They do have a printer driver, downliaded from their website, that allows it to work as a printer but the only driver for the scanner function is the TWAIN driver which only works on Intel processors.  They suggested that I try the scanner using Image Capture, but Image Capture doesn't recognize the scanner.  Canon does not have an ICA driver, and no plans to create one.  The frustration is that both the Box and the Specification sheet says that the Minimum System Requirements for the MX512 on Mac is "Mac OS 10,5,8, Intel Processor, PowerPC G5, PowerPC G4 (867 MHz or faster) 512MB." Unfortunately on their website ONLY there is an "additional disclamer" footnote 18 which reads "System requirements vary by application"... a "cop-out" which really means that all the functions may not work on your computer, which means if it doesn't work, you're stuck with it!  Even the Canon support tech was frustrated after an hour working with me and consulting his co-workers and reference sources.  So.... does anyone out there know of an ICA scanner driver, canon or 3rd party that might work for this Canon MX512?  The frustration level is high.....

I'd see if the older version of VueScan works for the MX512, it mentions the MX510...

  • Elements 10 not showing a scanned image until the twain driver is closed.

When I open up Elements 10 and scan into the Elements 10 Organizer  from the Epson Scan Twain driver (V3.04a) the image will not transfer in unless I close Epson Scan. At that time the transfer is completed and I can see the scanned photo in the Organizer screen. I have this problem on both Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit computers. I have reloaded the Epson Scan Setup twice (loads Epson twain driver). If I don't close the Epson twain screen the image won't display in Organizer at all.  Any thoughts as to why this problem requires closing Epson Scan to view the image?

I think you're running into a problem with the way Adobe has implemented scanning in the Organizer.  In your specific case, PSE is obviously not handling the return codes from the scanner correctly.  If Organizer was able to use WIA (as the Editor does) you'd have another option for scanning.
See this discussion/argument that I'm having with an Adobe representative:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/pse_organizer_need_option_to_use_wia _and_disable_twain
The Adobe rep is insisting that Organizer doesn't use TWAIN, but I'm not buying it.

  • Adobe Pro 9 and TWAIN driver

WHen scanning multiple pages from my HP Photosmart C6180 using the TWAIN driver recently installed in an Adobe update, Adobe freezes.
HP say it's an Adobe issue.  Any clues on how to sort this out?

I frequently see problems with people that scan directly into Acrobat. Of course, people with no problems have no need to post. However, I always recommend people use the software that comes with their scanner or other third party scanners (Hamrick's Vuescan comes to mind) to get their best scans. The resulting tifs or pdfs can then be imported into Acrobat.
For high quality scans, I recommend scanning to TIF, running the scan through Photoshop for tweaking, then importing into Acrobat.

  • Why doesn't Photoshop CS6 recognizes its Twain Driver

I've downloaded the Twain driver for Photoshop CS6 from Adobe and copied the Twain.plugin file to the Photoshop Plugin directory in Applications. I'm using a Mac with 10.6.8. I then restarted CS6 but there isn't a mention of 'Twain' in the Import menu? So also not my scanner. Which is an Epson Stylus SX130. Why not?

    Is your scanner driver 64-bit?

    Any advice pleeeese

    Hi Ballo,
From what you have described, it sounds like an issue with the software. I would like to try a couple of things before doing a complete uninstall and reinstall.
Can you please try to scan from Paint and let me know if it works.
Click the Windows Start icon (   ), click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Paint.
ClickFile, and then click Import From Camera or Scanner.
Make any desired setting changes, and then clickScan.
If this does not work the issue is actually with the Windows Imaging Acquisition. Please follow the instructions below.
Please go toStart buttonand click on the Search programs and files
    Type services.msc and press Enter
    Locate Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    Right click and open Properties
Stop the service from the General tab and then Start it again
Verify that the Startup type is set to Automatic rather then manual
If however, you can scan from Paint then the issue is likely with the HP software. Post back and let me know the results, if you can scan with paint I will provide you with a detailed list of instructions to successfully remove the HP software and allow for a fresh install. Please also post back with your version of Windows, thanks.
Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.
