TWAIN Sane with Canon LiDE 50

Hello!
I'm trying to use a Canon LiDE 50 scanner under OS X Mavericks 10.9 with TWAIN Sane drivers.
It worked well with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8 and now with the newly complied Sane drivers for Mavericks, Sane doesn't recognize the scanner anymore :-(
Anyone else experiences the same problem and has solved it?

Hi, same here. I was really happy to find Sane for OS X. But actually it does not work with my Canon Lide 50 and Mavericks. Before I have used the original Canon Lide 35 drivers to work with every OS X until Mavericks… But now I found a solution, just download the VueScan for the Lide 35 (which is the same Genesys hardware as the Lide 50) and it will all work. Also VueScan will work with the Scanner in Mavericks properly

  • Help with canon Lide 50 installation really stuck!

so after about two hours of trying to install my canon lide 50 again to scan some drawings I know now how bad canon is with its support with their scanner software. I have read a few very helpful sites but my problem is unsolved
this blog ( http://blog.dylanmullins.com/?p=254#comment-146) covers the problem by making two folders /Library/Application Support/Canon/ScanGear/Plugins and installing the new canon drivers there.
I did this and everything is in place correctly named but still my scanner goes unrecognized, I have the exact problem as this user.
CNYMIKE: I’ve installed the CanoScan Toolbox 5.0 for my Intel iMac but when I go into settings, the scanner doesn’t show in the dropdown because it can’t see a driver. I have the driver but do not know where to install it so that CanoScan Toolbox 5.0 can see it. Putting it in the same folder as the CanoScan Toolbox 5.0 does nothing. Neither does putting it in /library/application support/canon/ScanGear/plugins.
I installed canoscan toolbox 5.0 and this is the driver I got from canon http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0019057.asp?model=
if anyone thinks the drivers are not in the correct place or know a different driver please let me know this issue is beyond frustrating WAY TO GO CANON!

Are you connected to the scanner directly by USB or are you trying wirelessly?

  • Image Capture not working with Canon LiDE 500F

Image Capture version 6.0.424 and CanoScan LiDE 500F 11.2.5.0 does not work properly.
Regardless the resolution, the resulted file has a very small size.
As a test I scanned a 9x20cm document at different resolutions and for all resulted files 'Get Info' reported small dimensions: 69x147 pixels. It is interesting that the size of the file varies with resolution, but when opened in Preview or Acrobat Reader, the small size is used.
As for other reports, CanoScan Toolbox works properly.

    Liviu

    Hello Liviu,
There has been a couple of posts regarding the same issue with Image Capture. Have a look at this one for example.
    http://discussions.apple.com/watches!add.jspa?forumID=1344&threadID=2272250
As I stated in this thread, I do not have this problem with Image Capture and my LiDE 200 or my MP980 AIO. So there must be something with the drivers used by these older model of Canon scanners when using Image Capture.
I haven't seen anyone provide a solution as yet so you may need to escalate this to Canon if you have a need to use Image Capture.

  • Connect my MAC OS X 10.6.7 with CANON LIDE 25?

apparently there is a not so obvious problem ..i tried many times to download the driver from canon but there is a file that appears in my screen just before the installation finish that says "system/library/extensions.kext"   is improperly installed. after that i restart the computer and the driver doesnt work.
I can't understand...i am a new mac user..before changing my system into  snow leopard the scanner was working perfectly with my Mac..

    It works for me. I use canoscan toolbox ( http://www.canon.fr/Support/Consumer_Products/products/scanners/LiDE_series/Cano Scan_LiDE_25.aspx?DLtcmuri=tcm:79-741070&page=1&type=download ) .
My scanner doesn't appears in the list in preview, but when i run canoscan toolbox, I'm able to use my scanner

  • HT3258 canon lide 35

I just updated my System to OS Lion and now my older Canon Lide 35 scanner will not work.  Any solutions other than a new scanner.  The Canon site says there is not driver available.

    Hi Ruflin,
I'm in the same boat as you......10.7 Lion with Canon Lide 50......did you manage to get yours working?
I see that it is listed as:
    CanoScan:
      Product ID:          0x2213
      Vendor ID:          0x04a9  (Canon Inc.)
      Version:          3.03
      Speed:          Up to 12 Mb/sec
      Manufacturer:          Canon
      Location ID:          0xfa132000 / 7
      Current Available (mA):          500
Current Required (mA):          Unknown (Device has not been configured)
Canon told me that this scanner is too outdated for my new OS. Yet, there is nothing wrong with my scanner.
    Can anyone help me, please?
    Thanks.

  • Problems with using Canon LiDE 210 and OSX 10.7.4

I am getting nowhere with installing the Canon LiDE 210 scanner software on my 2010 MBP. All I get when I try to scan is "insufficient memory". I can scan using Image Capture and with the trial VueScan software so the problem looks as if it is something to do with the Canon software or the way that it installs on the MBP. Has anyone else had a similar problem or can anyone suggest a fix? Many thanks

Hellooo, I realise this thread is a year old and yet I'm having some real difficulty, hopefully this will fall on someones ears...
Firstly I have a mac mini bought recently and running on Mountain Lion 10.8.3 I tried downloading what is apparently the most up to date drvier and mp navigator for use with the CanoScan LiDE 210 meaning, that both the driver and mp navigator are compatible with Mountain Lion. Here is the following link I used that was forwarded to me by Canon:
    http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0100434402.html
    http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0200153502.html
I install both of the downloads, plug in the scanner, and nothing... no noise, no beep nothing to say that it is on. I try and open the scanner through system preferences-printer/scanner-canoscan icon yet I am then presented with the message; "failed to open a session on this device"
Strange, I call canon back and they do not know what else to suggest apart from all the usual trouble shooting, the type that is very patronising and annoying... did you click the icon and press scan, did you click the install button after downloading the software... the sort of thing that might otherwise result in the beating, of ones own face with the phone
At the end of this call, and after forwarding me a couple more useless links to unworkable downloads they say that it must be the product, and that I should contact the seller for a replacement.
So I do, I contact Amazon, I get my replacement and voila, exactly the same problem.
I even try getting it going using my mbp which is on snow leopard, which means I can use the installation disc that it is packed with it, it makes a noise, it sounds like its turning on but then when I click "open scanner" ... nothing, no option to scan, no acknowledgement of the device other than the icon itself in system preferences.
Does anyone have any experience of this issue, does anyone know how I might resolve it?
    Many thanks,
    Jeff

  • Scanning question with the Canon LiDE 110

Hello, I am trying to scan pictures with the Canon LIDE 110 using Photoshop Elements on a PC. The Get Photos/  from Scanner in Photoshop works great when i have the image set to save as a jpg' but when i set preferences to scan in and save the image as a TIFF, I get a message that says "Software for this Device could not be launched. The device is not connected or busy" What can I do to be able to scan in and save a TIFF?
    Thanks, Walter

    Hello wtneary.
Unfortunately, we are not familiar with some of the message you described.
However, our MP Navigator program has the ability to save images in TIFF format.  Please visit the following link to download the program:

  • Canon LiDE 60, Useless with Lion

Im on my way to the garbage dump with my Canon LiDE 60, then moving on to some other scanner aat the office supply store.
A whole night of no progress, including VueScan, the whole nine yards, yielded nothing.
Canon-shame on y'all for declining to update this driver, then fudging wy saying that its on the installation disk.  Disks will be gone for saftware soon, if not already.  Take some responsibility.

I also was looking for a working driver for ML 10.8
i bought a new canon scanner Lide 110 it's working perfect.
I tried my old scanner( Canon Lide 60) or it should work with this installed canon driver
i'am surprised my old scanner, lide 60  is working min Ml 10.8.4
photoloader does not recognise it. But Vuescan does. i use Vuescan 9.2.21
so the Lide 110 software works on 10.8 en higher for the Lide 60

  • Twain Sane Interface for Mac O SX

I installed the libusb.pkg, sane-backends.pkg and TWAIN-SANE-Interface.pkg on my IMac because I could not get my Canon CanoScan Lide 35 to work injh Mavericks with Image Capture. I then discovered that there are no drivers available from Canon that actually allow Image Capture to work my scanner and have ordered a new Epson XP-312 printer/scanner. What I would like help with is whether it is OK to leave the packages that I installed on my computer or, whether I have to find them and remove them?

    Hi Carolyn
I am not sure if these packages were drivers or not?  My scanner always worked with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then when I installed Mavericks it no longer functioned through Image Capture because there are no software updates for Mavericks for my model of scanner.
Although you say that Image Capture does not use drivers I could still use the scanner through the Canon Toolbox on my iMac but Cannon and Apple Support both said that my scanner would not work through Image Capture in Mavericks because there were no software updates available from Canon to facillitate that model.
So, I need to establish whether the packages ( I described in first post)  I installed are drivers and, if so how I go about removing them?

  • Using a Twain scanner with Yosemite

I have a Macbook running 10.6.8, and I am trialling Yosemite by running it off a USB drive, to see if I can use my peripherals, notably a Canon LIDE 70 twain scanner.
Searching on the web indicates that Yosemite doesn't support Twain (why would Apple do this???), and therefore Canon hasn't produced a driver for an OS later than Lion. But there are several suggested workarounds, which generally involve copying Twainbridge from my existing system and perhaps using SANE. For example:
Jan Elgil offers a simple installation script for Twainbridge which is supposed to work in Yosemite.
McManus suggests installing several apps to set up SANE.
So far, nothing I have done works. After trying everything, my System profiler still shows that the scanner hasn't been configured, and when I go to Printer and Scanner in the System Preferences no scanners appear when I try to add my scanner. The scanner is definitely connected, because when I restart back in Snow leopard off my HD, the scanner works OK.
I am no expert, so I'm stumped, and would appreciate if anyone has a failsafe method to get Yosemite to recognise my scanner please.
Failing that, I'd appreciate any understanding of how this works. It seems like I need several things to make the scanner work:
    the scanner to be connected
    Twainbridge
    A Canon LIDE 70 driver
SANE (is this in addition to Twainbridge or an alternative?)
Can anyone explain please what of these is required for Yosemite to recognise my scanner, or is something else required?  Thanks.

    Hi Raicya
Thanks for your interest. I downloaded a trial of version Vuescan, but this didn't help. It gave me this message:
"No scanner was found attached to your computer.  If you have one, close this tip window, exit VueScan, turn on the scanner and run VueScan again."
So this confirms that Yosemite is not recognising the scanner, but as soon as I get out of Yosemite and back into Snow Leopard the scanner works.
So the problem seems definitely to be how to get an OS to recognise a scanner. Or the more general question - what is actually required so that the OS recognises a scanner? Is it the presence of a driver in the right place, or what?

  • Can't get Canon Lide Scanner to work in PSE 10

I just belatedly upgraded to Snow Leopard... and got my PSE 6 to run without freezing by using a suggestion posted by Barbara B. ("Photoshop Elements for Snow Leopard") - deleting the Adobe Twain Driver.  My Canon Lide 80 scanner always worked smoothly in PSE 6 in Snow Leopard, but PSE 6 was crashing prior to removing the Adobe Twain plug-in.  Since I had not upgraded PSE in a while, I decided to download the trial of PSE 10 and put it through its paces before I purchased.
The first thing that I did was move the driver, ScanGear CS 7.2X into the import module as I had done in previous versions of PSE.  The next thing that I did was make sure that Rosetta was loaded onto my operating system.  I believe that with this new system Rosetta is automatically employed without having to put a check in the box as was with the case in Leopard, because there is no box to check, and the Apple care tech told me that it would run as needed.  When I boot up PSE 10, I receive the message, "One or more plug-ins is currently not available on your system...", the system info states that it failed to load and the ScanGear CS 7.2X plug-in does not show up as a choice for inporting.
This is a great scanner, so I am unwilling to dump it, PSE 6 works if worse comes to worse, but I would like to upgrade to PSE 10.  I am currently running on OS X 10.6.8.
    Does anyone have a solution?

    Barbara B. wrote:
You must go into Applications>PSE  10>optional plug-ins>ImportModules, and move the TWAIN plugin into Plug-ins>Import Modules before you can scan with any scanner. However, if you must have rosetta to scan, you will not be able to scan into PSE 8,9, or 10, no matter whether Rosetta is installed on your mac or not. There is no longer any support for Rosetta in PSE since PSE 8 came out. In that case, you can either use Scan Gear or get a newer scanner, if there's no intel-native plugin on canon's download page for your model.
Thank you for answering me so quickly, Barbara B.
It is interesting to note that there is no longer any support for Rosetta in PSE since PSE 8.  That really explains the problem.  The optics of my scanner are really good and the scanner really does work well in the "right' software.
I did as you instructed: moved the TWAIN plugin from Optional plug-in>ImportModules to Plug-ins>ImportModules, and restarted the computer.  Then I rebooted PSE 10.  The TWAIN import did not load... does not even show up in as there but unloaded.
Any ideas?  Could this be because I am using a trial version?

  • Canon lide 210 not recognized in yosemite. Latest driver downloaded

Since upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite (10.10.1) I have lost capability with my Canon Lide 210 scanner and Jam XT bluetooth wireless speaker.
I have downloaded and installed the latest Canon driver to no avail. Any ideas? Both were working great before I upgraded to Yosemite.

The scanner driver file is installed in HD > Library > Image Capture > TWAIN Data Sources. Here you will see the LiDE210.ds file. This package file contains information used by the scanner and removing the scanner entry in Print & Scan does not remove this file. You could trash this file (make sure you remove the entry from Print & Scan first) and then run the v17.7.1 scanner driver installer again.
If MP Navigator still fails it could actually be this application rather than the scanner driver at fault. Note that Image Capture uses a different driver called an ICA. So to test that the TWAIN scanner driver is okay you would need a TWAIN compatible application. And one such application is VueScan. Install this and see if you can scan without any error. If you can then it indicates the issue is with MP Navigator. If VueScan also fails then you do have a scanner driver issue.

  • Getting TWAIN SANE to work on OS X

    Hi,
I've tried a number of times over the past few months to get the TWAIN-SANE interface working on my machine, but I've never had any luck. (FYI, it's available at http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/). My scanner is a Canon N1220U, but at this point, I'm just trying to find someone who has got TWAIN-SANE to work at all. For looking into problems, the SANE site suggests to run the sane-find-scanner command to ascertain that the scanner can be found, and then the scanimage -L command. When I did this I got the following results:

  • PSE5 Scanner-Problem (Canon Lide 60)

    Harry

I have always used VueScan. Canon wants you to buy the LiDE 90 probably. Vista x64 drivers for my LiDE 70 (which I bought assuming it was current and that they would upgrade drivers) even requires modifying the Twain name for VueScan to work. And the developer (Hamrick) is very good at keeping his software updated. Canon uses its own proprietary protocols. So I don't even think it is industry standard enough for Apple to support "natively."
Vista. Yes, Canon brought out a driver for the LiDE in fall '06. SP1 is being held from full release and DVD mastering while some vendors have more time to add driver support for new hardware and systems, logicboards. Vista SP1 has been in beta since August, a public RC1 came out and two non-public updates, giving developers time to work with the new release.
But vendors aren't happy. Drivers don't make money, cost time to develop and test (it can take 1-4 months for a driver and firmware), so they don't get much thanks. Thankfully, a scanner like the LiDE series are under $100 and perform well.
I had a nice $400 laser printer for doing envelopes and a few letters, Lexmark doesn't have drivers, and neither does Vista, and my 'new' laser doesn't do envelopes as easy, but at least it was only $180 and can print 3x faster (but I waste a lot of envelopes to get one good one).
The cost of any new OS is to make older hardware and software obsolete. New software to require ever more powerful hardware. This was something IBM learned 40 yrs ago. All in the name of progress and commerce.
A new scanner vs VueScan Pro (lifetime support). And your VueScan license works with Vista and OS X.

  • Canon Lide 35 No Longer works in Snow Leopard

Here some more specific results on what happens when you try to scan with the Lide 35 in Snow Leopard.
    1) The ONLY choice is to use image capture. Canon software doesn't work
    2) Detect Multiple images is completely broken
    3) The image size is super small. )i e, the dimensions settings don't work right
    4) You have to increase the resolution to 600 to 1200 in order to "fool" Image Capture into scanning at the proper size
    5) As soon as you select Ovweview a second time, it stops working and gives you a blank scan. You have to log out and back in to get it working.
    6) The only "workaround" I've found is to scan the same dimensions every time at 1200 dpi and edit and save the photo in another app.
I realize the Canon Lide 35 is an older scanner, but please Apple, none of us want to buy a new scanner just because we upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I've spend an hour on the phone with Canon who tried to be very helpful. This happens on all my Snow Leopard Macs (I have three) and it seems clear that this is an Apple issue.

    Hi Tee,
I can confirm what you are saying. I am running MacOS 10.6.2 on MacBook Pro and when I was trying to use my Canon LiDE 35 after installing "lide35osx7721en.dmg" and also "cstbosx5013ej4.dmg" I am still getting the error message "driver not found". The same Canon LiDE 35 still works beautifully with my PowerPC G4 under 10.4.11. - I am not sure whether there is any other software? The only oddity when installing those files I noticed was that "CNQL1208_ClassicNotSeize.kext" would not load...
I have no solution to offer at this stage other than using the old Apple... Anybody any ideas??
