Tweak specific tuning in Garage Band?

Does anyone know if it's possible to tweak tuning, NOT using the "enhance tuning" feature?
My difficulty is that the "enhance tuning" feature defaults to the nearest pitch, but where the recorded instrument is sometimes out of tune it's sometimes actually closer to a note DIFFERENT from the nearest note. (yes it was me and it was live and I'm embarrassed - !)
So I'd like to go in and tweak it a little.
C'est possible?

You need to ask this in the GarageBand forum!
You'll have to use dedicated pitch correction software to achieve what you want.

No, use a direct box, the Klark Teknik DN100 specifically.

  • Files will not open in garage band

Hey guys, I recently bought a new Macbook Pro (10.7.3) It's past it's 90 day warranty period. I just started using Garage Band to record some audio with music bed.
I opened a new project, began setting my levels and effects etc "saved it" ready to start recording. I opened my files folder for new project, clicked on the saved file, then a message came up saying "the file couldn't be opened"
I tried this a number of times, same thing happened - except twice when it did open once but then froze again.
Over all I keep getting the message "the file couldn't be opened"
Any suggestions on how to sort this? Thanks - Cheers

    Oh yes, I forgot...
My apologies for hijacking this thread.
More info:  It seems on other users of this computer (my wife's account for example) GB opens and operates fine. So it seems the problem is user specific.  I'm the admin of the computer.
Also, not sure if it's relevant, but I have a Bootcamp Windows partition as well.  Although I don't think it has anything to do with the issue at hand.
That's all the info I have.
Good Luck to all of us with this problem!

  • Import a song to Garage Band

Why (why why why) can we not import a song sent via email directly into "music", "Garage Band", etc? Or is there a way? It seems ridiculous (bordering idiotic) that this isn't built in. Apple is so wondrously intuitive in every other area this oversight is baffling. Or am I the idiot and the answer sits in front of me somewhere?
I already know how to import any given song by doing so within iTunes via the application specific upload via my desktop or laptop, but lets say I'm sitting on a desert island next to my good friend Wilson, with no access to a computer, but have (miraculously there is a wifi signal) received an email with a song I would just LOVE to edit/add to in Garage Band. How would I do that?
    Thanks for your help.

This is a poor way of doing this but the only way I found to do this is to record your music into the sampler using the microphone then record the sample. I don't like doing this because of clarity and lack of manipulating the track once created. It would be nice if GB added this feature. Also it would be cool if you could mix down the tracks into one so we could have more tracks to work with.

  • Use garage band sounds in other applications?

I've never had any need to use Garage Band, but have heard that the sounds are good... is there a way to use Garage Band sounds with a DAW, specifically, Digital Performer?
    Thanks

What do you men with sounds?
    Apple Loops
Apple Loops are just aiff file with additional metadata. You can even play them in iTunes. However I heard that DP can utilize the Tempo Match and Key Match feature.
    Plugins
GarageBand support two Plugin standards. AU Plugins and Logic-Plugins. GarageBand doesn't come with any AU-Plugins only Logic Plugins but DP doesnt support them, they are an Apple proprietary format.
    Drummer
The drummer is nothing other than a sophisticated EXS24 Sampler (a Logic Plugin), therfore no support in DP. If you have a lot of time on your hand, you can access the individual audio samples and build your own sampler that can be used in DP.
    Settings
All the other sound settings are just settings files that are only compatible inside the Apple ecosystem of audio apps (GarageBand, Logic, MainStage)
This ecosystem comes in handy when moving between those apps. Now you can create sounds and settings in Logic and use them in GarageBand or MainStage. Here is screenshot from my new GarageBand book "GarageBand X - How it Works" that illustrates that ecosystem
    Hope that helps

  • Do iMovie chapters work in iDVD after being put through Garage Band?

I built a project in iMovie with chapters defined and exported it as 780p video then dragged it to Garage Band to put music tracks to it. When I share it to iDVD will the chapters still work?

There have been several posts on this forum regarding scene selection issues / buttons that don't always link properly to their respective / appropriate chapters or scenes. Menu navigation can be problematic within iDvd'08. This is much less of an issue within Roxio Toast and DVDSP (apple's top end dvd authoring software part of FCS2).
You may want to use the iDvd feedback web form located within iDvd once the app is launched .... simply go to the menu and scroll down to provide iDvd Feedback. Apple WILL take note of requests for added features and / or an update request to resolve a specific issue. It won't happen instantly, but it will get apple's attention.
In the meantime, here's what I'd recommend that does work for me .... iM6=>iDvd'08:
Download iMovie 6 free from apple provided you already have iLife'08:

  • Garage Band 3 audio into to Imovie HD?

I am not able to export Garage Band 3 audio saved for use in a podcast into iMovie 6.0.1. I would think that this would be possible because both are part of the iLife Suite. Does anyone know any way to get Garage Band audio into an iMovie? Specifically, I am trying to get a recorded voice from Garage Band into iMovie.
    Thanks,
    Lou

Thanks for the help. Importing into iTunes worked as you suggested. I don't know what I was thinking - - when I saw import to iTunes I thought, mistakenly for some dumb reason, that my track would automatically go to the iTunes music store if I saved to iTunes. I MUST get more sleep.

  • IMovie Garage Band iTunes

Which is the best quality result for doing the above work ?
Edit in iMovie, then chapters and sound in garage band and share to iTunes in this order.
Better to share to iTunes in full quality, from iMovie, followed by dragging to garage band for chaptering and then share to iTunes the final movie from garage band ?
The normal procedure would be share to media browser in iMovie to work in garage band and finally share to iTunes from within garage band. But I don't know nothing about loss of quality. Any advice ?

Which is the best quality result for doing the above work ?
Ideally, the work flow requiring the fewest re-compressions.

Do you have specific requirements regarding the final file container?
    1) If not, then you could share your file from iMovie '08 to the Media Browser using the specific preset for your final target compression format -- e.g., iPhone, iPod, or TV. You can then open Media Browser file in GarageBand, chapter it, and Export or Share it using the "Full Quality" option. This work flow will place the chapter track, the original video, and the audio into an MOV file container which is compatible with iTunes.
    2) On the other hand, if you want the final chaptered content to be in an M4V file container, you would probably do better to export the iMovie '08 project via the "Export using QuickTime" option as a high quality/high data rate compressed file, open it in GarageBand, chapter it, and then "Send" it on to iTunes using a selected target preset. This option re-compresses the audio and video and places them in the M4V file container along with your chapter track.
Note: Different file containers have different features/capabilities. For instance, if you use an internal frame as the "Poster" frame, then an MOV file would be fine here. If, on the other hand, you want to associate an external image file as your "Poster" frame in iTunes, the you would need to use an M4V or MP4 file container.

  • I have an MPC 1000 and Garage Band

I would like to produce and sequence my tracks on my MPC 1000 and then dump them into garage band. How is this possible without using the midi feature?
Also, I  am using an m-audio mobilepre (2 ch) - I also have an mbox...which is best for use with garage band (I am new to Mac and Garage Band - former protools user on my PC)?
    OS - Lion 10.7
2 external hard drives 500g and 2 tb respectively.
Any links to youtube or pdf files would be helpful and appreciated.

Are you sequencing them as MIDI files or some other, more specific, type of file? I still have an old Korg on which I sequenced hundreds of songs, but all using the inbuilt software instead of MIDI. If you are sequencing as MIDI, I don't understand why you'd not want to import them into GB as MIDI files. But that's beside the point: if you don't want them to end up as MIDI files, you can import them as audio files. You know--L and R out of your machine, into the computer. Then, they're audio files and you no longer have any editing capability, apart from EQ and FX which apply to the whole thing. Sorry if that doesn't answer the question.

  • Ipod Garage Band does not recognise Blue Mikey..... even though it gets signal.

I just installed Garage Band on my 3rd gen iPod touch and am not getting past the '"No Audio Input" dialog. But here's the weird bit... I have a Blue Mikey mic plugged into the dock input and it is registering on the VU meter. Audio is getting into the unit - and into the application but it won't allow me to record as it doesn't 'see' a microphone plugged into the audio/headphone jack. I might try plugging something in there to fool it...
I specifically tracked down a 3rd gen model as it is the last ipod touch to allow audio recording through the doc connection. I'm figuring that the Garage Band programmers forgot that earlier models allowed dock connected microphones?
(BTW there is nothing wrong with the hardwar - I can still record using other apps.... but Garage Band would rock the free world.)

Ah really? Does it record without headphones plugged in? (I usually use it for band recording)
I have been reluctant to update to iOS5 because I was afraid it would introduce software issues with Fire (Blue's recording app). I assume they will abandon development for native Mikey software at some point.
Have you used Fire with iOS5?
I should update to iOS5, Garage band will possibly replace Fire if it works OK. Thanks for the tip!

  • Is there a USB "Mixer" that can take control of the channel levels in garage band?

Im just looking for something like a USB "Mixer" that can take control of the Channel faders in garage band. Sort of like a digital Mixer, but not for recording.

What you are looking for is called a Control Surface. M-Audio made one specifically for Garageband called the iControl but it was discontinued a few years ago. Many surfaces can work with many different DAWs but I don't know off hand any that work with Garageband.

The Apple Support documents are available in many languages. To change the language select the language icon at the bottom right of the support webpage and then select the language you want. For example, Recharger la batterie de votre iPad - Assistance Apple
I have not seen the problem that you are describing on my iPad Air and, I expect, that this scenario would be thoroughly tested by Apple before release. In addition I haven't seen reports of this occurring on this forum. The problem may be specific to your device/battery. Have you contacted Apple Support about this? See here: Contact Us

  • Trash garage band

I don't do much if anything with music. I mostly do word processing and powerpoint, etc. I do some work with photos and some home video. Is there any reason to keep Garage Band on the MAC (as to freeing up some HD space)? If I gave my MAC to someone in two years could they put it back on.

Hi and Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Yes, it is perfectly ok to trash GarageBand. No, here is no reason to keep it there if you don't work with music. Yes if you gave your Mac to someone they could put it back as long as you also passed on all software and OS restore disks.
After trashing G'geBand you might also like to do a Spotlight search for GarageBand. There are a bunch of loops which take up nearly 1GB, I found mine in HD/Library/Application Support but I've read here that they can also be found in HD/Library/Audio.
If you really want to clear some space there a variety of other things that you can do. For example on my iBook, as well as deleting GarageBand and its loops I have also trashed preloaded games and World Book, and its associated files.
I have also removed language support files using Monolingual. Do not remove any English language files, though.
OS X comes with a vast library of printer drivers, the large proportion of which will never be used by the average user.
Printer drivers are in the HD/Library/Printers folder. You can safely delete any named drivers that you don't have a printer for. For example, if you have a Canon, you can remove Epson, Lexmark, Hewlett Packard & Brother drivers. Epson alone takes up in excess of 1gb. You can even remove specific drivers from within the manufacturer's folder. For example, if you have an Epson C86 you can safely trash any other specific drivers in the Epson folder like C46, C66 etc. If, at a later date, you buy a printer whose driver you removed they can be added from your install disk, the disk that comes with the printer or downloaded.
A word of warning: More cautious heads than mine advise against messing in the HD/Library, but if you stick to the examples above, i.e. GarageBand loops, World Book and printer drivers you will be OK.
Certainly, I have had no problems with my system after removing those examples.
Check, too, in your music folder. It is possible that you have, say, 'xyz song' in the first level of your Music folder and the same song in Music/iTunes/iTunes Library. If you are sure that you do have 'xyz song' in iTunes, it is safe to delete from 'Music'. The same principle can apply to your Pictures folder and iPhoto Library, but staying with iTunes for a moment, with iTunes open select Edit in the menu bar, then 'Show duplicate songs'. You can trash duplicates if you are sure that they are true duplicates, i.e. exact name, artist and file size.
Some excellent advice has been posted by ~JB~, with corresponding words of caution.
Dr Smoke has some advice here too.
Last but by no means least, when you have finished dumping your unwanted stuff in the trash, don't forget to empty it. You haven't regained the space until you do
    Have fun!
