Tweaking jumper on motherboard

how do you tweak the jumper on a ibook g4 motherboard running 10.3.9. i wish to do this because i need to reset the firmware password

Essentially you have a computer with a secure password
set in firmware, no jumper would be likely a cure for this.
And both of these similar posts on this issue would require
the same answer; to attempt to see if a reset of the firmware
could be done so access to the system is possible.
In some computers, the physical access to the hardware,
the RAM, and the computer's internals, could allow one
to dump a firmware password. In some models, removal
of the RAM, was said to enable the owner an avenue to
reset the firmware password; but that path may have been
merely hearsay. I haven't the time now to research that one.
There was said to be a way to reset a firmware security
password via the Single-user mode and keying in the
correct word or letter sequences, and making that do it.
Then, restarting the computer with Single-User disabled.
Though I may be incorrect about this, I suggest it is possibly
an angle to at least look into. A general search on the topic:
' Mac OS X firmware reset in Single User mode ' - google:
[link|http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=MacOS+X+firmware+reset+in+Single+User+mode&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=Mac+OS+X+firm ware+reset+in+Single+Usermode&fp=OlAWEoQSgPM]
There are a few evidently possible leads in the search page.
Hopefully this is the path to clearing the previous password
security in firmware in the computer.
Good luck & happy computing!

Compaq Presario sr5703wm, Windows Vista 32-bit,

Checked monitor on another computer-OK. When computer turned on all fans running CD/DVD light blinks momentarily, hard drive spins up. Attempted to do recovery using disc and CD/DVD drive does not run. Have tried reset Bios with no resolution.
    HELP PLEASE!  Thank you

    Hello,
I understand that your pc will not boot but you do hear the fans and also see lights on the cd/dvd drive blinking momentarily. I appreciate you already testing out the monitor to confirm it works with another pc.
When you attempted to run the recovery using the disc did the monitor show any images?
You also mentioned resetting the bios. Did the bios menu physically show up on the monitor or could you not see it on the screen? Also take a look at your keyboard and see if there lights that flash in somewhat of a pattern. (ie. caps lock, num lock)
I am thinking there might be an issue with the graphics card which I’m, showing is integrated to the motherboard.
I have inserted a link that will provide you with more steps you try.
I recommend you start with step 5 because the majority of the steps above you have already done. (See below)
Step 5: Reseat loose internal components
If the computer case was recently serviced or moved, a card, cable, memory module, or processor may have become loose. When this happens, the computer might make a beeping sound when turned on. Use the following steps to check for loose components:

  • Remove 'Micron Firmware Update' from BIOS

Hi, I have a 'Micron Firmware Update' listed in the bios boot options, how can I remove this from the list? I have a Ivy Bridge desktop PC with a 512gb MX100.I have previously updated the MX100 firmware. The  'Micron Firmware Update' remains as an option when all drives are disconnected. Thanks.

Yep, tried lots of stuff. SSD = CT512MX100SSD FW:MU01 on label, updated to MU02.
Motherboard = Gigabyte Sniper M3. The MX100 had caused some BSOD errors.
One that stopped windows from booting and caused a boot loop to 'Micron Firmware Update'. eg.
    Boot
Micron Storage Executive.. Loading.. fdisk device has more than 2^32 sectors, cant use all of them.
Invalid firmware directory specified with -i option.
Reboot. Here is a list of what I tried to (A) get windows to boot and (B) remove 'Micron Firmware Update' from the bios.(not necessarily in order). Disconnected all drives from motherboard.
    Format c: /FS:fat32 /v:system /q
    bootrec /fixboot
    bcdboot D:/windows /l en-us /s C: /f ALL
    bcdedit /enum firmware
    bcdedit /import
EasyBCD to check and read boot config on EFI System partition.
    scandisk
    SFC /scannow
Realise it would be quicker to reinstall Windows.
    Diskpart clean
Reinstalled Windows in MBR mode (not UEFI mode).
Reset motherboard firmware to optimised defaults.
Loaded known good custom motherboard settings from backup.
Cleared CMOS with jumper on motherboard.
    Removed motherboard battery overnight.
Flashed motherboard firmware with 'Q-Flash' embedded flash utility. Flash in DOS mode with efiflash.exe bios.bin /c
Its always the last thing you try that fixes the problem.

  • USRP N200 , GPSDO toolkit , Magnitude and "Phase" !!

I need to run a simple experiment using two USRP N200 adjunct with labview program to receive magnitude and phase of the received signal ?  Is it possible ? and how much is that received phase value reliable since i checked the magnitude value calulating it manually which is OK !!
Also Has anyone incorpated GPSDO toolkit with USRPs ? does that help in synchronising two USRP ? It would be a great help if some one has the labview VI to check to check the GPSDO toolkit is working well with USRP or not ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well, I figured out the problem related to magnitude and phase and thanks for previous suggestions. But, Now have problem synchronising two N200 USRP and the labview program is working intermittently and then shows some error. Much detailed description is scripted below.
I have been trying to synchronize two N200 USRP (Receiver and Transmitter) using GPSDO toolkit + GPS antenna. I am using niUSRP EX PSK TX and niUSRP EX PSK Rx example file (Labview 2011) at the transmitter and receiver end. I have been using following step:
    1. Used the aforementioned labview example files without any modification as step no 2 of Instructions provided in ( https://www.ettus.com/content/files/gpsdo-kit_4.pdf ) clearly mentions that changing J510 jumper on motherboard from 1-2 to 2-3 switches external 10 MHz Ref Clock to GPSDO’s 10 MHz Ref Clock. I assume that the hardware change made in the Ettus’ N200 USRP box while installing the GPSDO toolkit is enough to let the Labview program to know about where its reference clock signal is coming from.
    2. I made some modification to the labview file (both TX and Rx) by adding a property node which selects “Reference Frequency Source” and added a controller which selects it as internal as shown in the attachment_freq.
    3. Similar to (2), I made some modification to the labview file ( both TX and RX ), this time around by adding a property node which selects “Time base clock Source” and added a controller which selects it  as internal as shown in attachment_time.
à Point to be noted while performing this entire step (1, 2 and 3) was:
"The labview program works perfectly fine when no GPS antenna is connected to the GPSDO output of the N200 USRP. As soon as I connect the antenna to the USRPs, it throws error as shown in attachment_error"
So, my questions are directed towards these are:
[A]. What does the error actually mean?
[B]. What has the error to do with connection or disconnection of the GPS antenna to GPSDO tool-kit?
[C]. My objective is just to update both devices that the Ref-clock signal is coming from the same source ( as a mode for synchronizing both devices). I am using Ettus’ GPSDO clock with GPS antenna for that purpose. Since, my modification in program in step2 and step3 doesn’t work well. I would want to know how you incorporate that with labview. Is not there any example VI in labview that uses previously mentioned product to synchronize?
[D].What does the labview program takes as a Ref-Clock source as default ?

  • Connecting front USB1 to USB2

I have a new case with usb front connectors.
I want to connect the usb on the case to the USB2 jumper on the motherboard.
I have 8 wires on the case.  The USB2 jumper has a 10 pin connector.
Can it be done?  I am missing one ground connector if I want to use the jumper.
    Motherboard
    MSI K7Turbo (MS-6330)

    VCC 1 RED  - VCC 1
    DATA -1 YELLOW  -  USBD3- 3
    GND 1 BLACK  - GND 4 or 2 (it's the same)
    DATA 1 GREEN - USBD3+ 5
If you have two USB ports, just do the same on pin 6 ~ 10. Whichever GND pin left out doesn't matter, as long as you plug the GND pin to either Pin 2 or 4 (or pin 7 or 9 for 2nd USB port).

  • A75MA-P35 C6 Mode Problem

    Hi,
Just purchased a A75MA-P35 and amd 3500 Lano cpu and 8GB Corsair ram
And have a problem with my A75MA-P35 -( Problem when enabling C6 Mode in bios.)
Motherboard already had latest bios 1.2.
MSI Install CD was full of errors when i tried to install drivers,(totally corrupted,,(screwed) and lots of scratches on the surface.
I just downloaded from the internet drivers needed but still a pain.
When i enable c6 mode in bios and save and exit, Win7 starts after a few seconds, the computer Reboot's  and Reboots, etc.
As soon as i disable C6 Mode, computer start's fine.
is there a Problem with the bios and C6 Mode
Also CPU temperature in win7 reports 8c , i think is a bit on the cool side, is generally not a problem, but CPU fan never changes speed in windows.
If i run a game or something then the CPU is in fact red hot, simply because the temps being reported in win7 are only 8c and the computer mobo thinks the fan speed
doesn't need to go any faster.
I have the fan speed set to increase when the CPU hits 40c , the lowest temp setting in bios but the CPU fan  never changes speed.
Don't know if its just my motherboard or a general problem with this mother :bonk:board.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated..
    Many Tks..

Ok svet tested beta bios E7697AMS.14A
Sorry to tell you that Reboot Loop error when starting win7 is still there in Bios test E7697AMS.14A
Tested with C6Mode enabled (Reboots when starting win7)
Tested with C6Mode Disabled (Reboots when starting win7)
Tested with svm Disabled ( Reboots when starting win7)
Tested with cool and quiet Disabled (Reboots when starting win7)
Windows 7x64 Reboots after about 3 seconds when you see the win7 flashing icon in center of screen
and will continue to repeat Reboot etc.
So it looks like bios E7697AMS.14A is worse than the Latest Official Bios 7697v12.
We tried svet, i will pop back here every day to see if we can get a fix.
    Many tks svet..
The Test bios E7697AMS.14A has been installed correctly in dos mode , bios reset with jumper on motherboard before testing E7697AMS.14A.

  • K9A Platinum and no power

Disclaimer: This is my first build.
I believe I have everything hooked up correctly, but when I hit the power switch on the case I get nothing to the motherboard.  The PSU doesn't even come on.  I went to the PSU's site and looked how to test the PSU and it does work.  I have plugged the PS lead from the case into the motherboad every which way I can.  So far nothing.
What should I do?  Is there something I'm missing.
    Thanks
    Bruce

all right Guys, thanks for the input and advice.
I checked the motherboard in these various fashions. (thanks for the book idea and the GC hanging off!)
    1.  No CPU or Graphics card
    2.  With CPU, Heatsink, no Graphics card
    3.  With the CPU, Heatsink, and Graphics card.
I used the small screwdriver to try and jump the motherboard, but to no avail for any of the options.
I should have preferenced that I've installed several video cards, network cards, hard drives, replaced a CPU and more ram then I can remember.  I've just never built one from scratch, including plugging in everything to a motherboard (USB connectors, DVD Drive, and the various fan and case connectors. )
I'm guessing this means the Motherboard is dead and I should send in for a replacement?
    1. It's obvious: without a cpu, nothing will work;
    2. Obvious as well: no ram;
    3. No ram again.
did you install ram when using the setup under 2 and 3?
Then, again about the psu-connectors, how many connectors do you connect to the motherboard? There must be one 20 / 24-pin connector (large one) and one squared 4-pin connector near the cpu. You need those both!

  • Intel D865PERL Motherboard

    Hello all,
I have installed Windows 7 on a P4, 3.2 GHz, machine with an Intel D865PERL motherboard.  Intel does not provide Win7 drivers for this chipset.  The install went fine but there is an irritating little quirk at boot.  The machine goes through POST and then switches to the "Starting Windows" screen where it proceeds to hang.  I power down, and enter the BIOS.  I exit the BIOS and then it boots.  I have tweaked just about every setting in the BIOS and that has no effect.   After the machine is in the powered off state for about 30 minutes, it returns to its hang on boot behavior.
There is an event log in the BIOS that shows a "keyboard not found"  error at every boot attempt (whether successful or not)  I have a USB keyboard on the system and even tried switching with a brand new keyboard....no effect.
I am pretty sure is has to do with the chipset drivers.  Currently it has Microsofts drivers loaded for the motherboard and Device Manager shows everybody is a happy camper...
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks All!
    Steve

I'm not an IT expert.  But I am still using the two P4 computers that I built back in 2004-2005.     As of Win7 Service Pack 1, Win7 will run just fine on an Intel D865PERL and D865PERLL.   There are now Win7 drivers for
the sound, but if you want high fidelity or better sound for games, you should get a sound card that has full features under Win7.
With an upgraded video card, expect Aero to run but you'll get Win7 Exp scores in the low 3s, like 3.2 or so, and video will naturally be the lowest score.     I have 4GB RAM on each board.  The CPUs I have run Win7 with are:
3.2GHz 800MHz Northwood,  3.0GHz 800 FSB Northwood,  2.6GHz 800FSB Northwood, and  Prescott 2.9GHz Celeron D (socket 478, 500 MHz FSB).    The Celeron gets marginally faster Win7 Exp scores for processor speed.
The hyperthreading with the full P4s helps with throughput, but ALL of these P4-era CPUs have bottlenecks.  During certain tasks, if you watch the CPU usage, they are running at 80% - 100% usage.  Sometimes they hit the 100% usage and pause the whole
system, but don't crash.  They just finish what they're doing and then take off again, much like a car engine bouncing off the rev limiter.
You can tell that Win7 was written for dual-core CPUs or better.  On a P4 or a P4-based Celeron, you'll see it load up the CPU to 85%-100% and then take a pause, like it expected to have another core there to hand stuff off to, but there ain't one,
    LoL.
The Win7 OS taxes the CPU and graphics more than WinXP did, but the drivers seem better written and overall, these machines run far smoother and less "notchy" than they did on WinXP.    Except for that aforementioned hits-the-rev-limiter 100%
usage bottleneck issue, I like them better as Win7 machines than as patched and patched and cobbled and pieced and updated WinXP machines.     I haven't bothered to try to uninstall features or cut background programs or in any way optimize
these systems.   I set them up as Win7 machines to teach senior citizens and kids how to type and to use a computer, and they run Win7 and Office 2007/2010 and burn DVDs and do all that without problems.
Hard disks:   I've Googled that and found several posts that say up to 1TB is recognized without partitioning.   With WinXP Media Edition, the OS was apparently  the limitation b/c I had a 500GB HD and WinXP only saw it as a 200-or-300-something.
SATA3 or SATA2 is backward compatible with SATA1.  It just slows down to the older slower standard.  I'm not sure what will happen if you try to use an SDD or a new advanced-format HDD that uses the 4k sectors and you have to run a translator or
at least the HD does, on an older PC.   Be careful what kind of HD you buy, because the new drives on store shelves are soon going to be all of the advanced format type.
You'll have to run Win7 32bit on these old computers.   3GB or 4GB RAM as matched pairs of PC-3200  DDR400 running in dual channel mode is the way to go.   Even though 32bit can't use all 4GB, it can use 3.4GB or something, and having
matched sticks in dual channel will aid efficiency some.   With people dumping these older PCs, it's not as expensive as it used to be to get 1GB ddr400 modules, and 512K ones go for peanuts.    These boards can run memory bus at any
of PC2100, 2700, or 3200, independent of the CPU's FSB, but why run old slow 2100 or 2700 RAM and bottleneck your old system even more?
I haven't tried to get RAID to work.  I've never owned two matching hard drives, haha.  So, you're on your own there.    Regardless of whether or not Intel supports these boards, you can run Win7 32 bit on them, if you have enough
RAM and a good fast video card.
BIOS:   One board has P19 and the other P21.  Update your BIOS to one of the later ones.  Some of these boards are having probs with failing capacitors, so I bought a used PERLL to replace my dead board.  It came with either P08
or P09 BIOS (I forget) and I put the 3.0GHz 800FSB Northwood on it.   It booted up and ID'd the CPU fine, but wouldn't save CMOS settings and that problem persisted even after I'd done a battery pull, CMOS jumper reset, left the board sit a day with
no battery, installed a brand new battery, etc.     I downloaded BIOS P21, used the executable flash version that INTEL made for WinXP, and the BIOS successfully flashed to P21, from within Win7,
for you people who live dangerously.    It had some kind of reboot glitch and I think I had to do a hard shutdown and then reboot it before the board would boot into Windows.   It has P21 now, and will save all CMOS settings, and runs
great.       All of my D865PERL-series boards are Prescott-ready.  I have one green board, and two black D856PERLL boards that have firewire and gigabit LAN and USB2.    All the built-in stuff works in Win7.
Sound is not the same quality as WinXP's, but maybe there's a driver fix for that.
I am running 32bit Win7 Home Premium.    I have also tried Win7 Pro and Win7 Ultimate and they will also install.
    Specs:
    D685PERL (green)  and D865PERLL
    Northwood 800Mhz FSB CPUs (3.2, 3.0, 2.6 GHz)
    4GB RAM as 4 matched Crucial PC3200  DDR400 sticks running dual channel (2x1GB + 2x512MB pc3200 ddr400 also works)
    ZOTAC AGP GeForce 6200A,  512MB  64bit DDR2
    Linksys WMP54G wireless and/or  D-Link DFE-530TX+ 10/100 ethernet
on the green D865PERL:   2-port firewire PCI card and 4-port Belkin USB2 card (not needed on the D865PERLL boards)
various WD and Seagate SATA and PATA HDs, none of which are "advanced format" (all are still the 512 byte sectors) but the newest drive is a Seagate 160GB SATA3  ST3160316AS 7200RPM  8MB cache.  So, there's a SATA3 success story for you.
old PCI video:  I have a PNY Verto nvidia PCI card, 32MB, and I think it's a GeForce2 MX 400 AGP 4x.  I'm not going to go look it up.  Anyway, Win7 couldn't find a driver and the  PNY site is apparently no longer offering any support
for it because it's too old.   I had the original install disk, and I installed the WinXP driver for it, and that works in Win7.   (I had that card lying around so I decided to try it just for curiosity.)  So, even "unsupported" hardware
may work in 7, but you may have to do some research and gruntwork to drag old hardware into the current OS(s).
I bought a secondhand HP 8200 Elite i5-2500 PC for my personal machine.   I was pretty content with my old P4s until I got the i5 PC, but dealing with failed capacitors, paying $30 for only 2GB RAM, uncertainty about how the new SSDs and advanced-format
HDs would work with the older controllers and BIOSs, and getting into the stage where I was having to swap parts around and deal w/ failing HDs, etc.   plus that "rev limiter" issue made me want something newer.     I'll do my
next new build sometime in 2Q13 after I see what new designs Intel is rumored to be rolling out.     I bought my SFF HP 8200 for only $275 w/ the i5-2500, just 2GB as 1 stick RAM, and only an 8oGB HD (that can be redeployed to one of the
    P4s , lol).    BUT, it's under $40 to upgrade to a full
8GB of Crucial RAM for it, and I already have a 265GB SSD and a 500 GB SATA3 HD to go in there.  So for that low of a price, why would you not move to the i5 second generation Sandy Bridge and turn the P4s
into Linux boxes or something.     Linux is what I am going to do with my D875 motherboard and its 4GB RAM.   Win7 runs pretty well, but the P4s are finally start to show their age, even to us Office-workers who do not game.
With XP, you don't notice it so much.
I even have a MSI BX Master 440BX slot 1 P3 board with a 1GHz socket 370 P3 133MHz FSB CPU in an Abit SlotKet, and a full 1GB of RAM, and Win7 32bit will install on it.  But it's really an XP machine, teehee.
eta:    I have all IDE CD and DVDRW drives on these machines.   And have used a mix of SATA and IDE hard drives at the same time, or 2 SATA HDs and two IDE HDs and 3-4 IDE CD/DVD RWs with a Promist ATA 100 PCI card.  These boards
are fussy about PCI cards and what has to share an interrupt with what, but they run a mix of drive types with no problem if you have a large enough power supply.    Too small of a power supply is going to cause you probs, too.   I
have 350W and 450W power supplies from PC  Power and Cooling (back when PCPC was still somebody) and one 450W Antec that has blue LED lights in it.      If you're trying to load up with RAM and drives and you have a 200 or 250W
power supply, you need a larger power supply.

The excel performance proof the brand new 960 graphics card comes with good a high Cost/Performance Value.
Now, check out this test benchmark score of the renowned game “The Crew”.
The game presents an ultra-quality display, 60 Frames Per Second (FPS)
    FPS: Average frames is at:
    Frames: 3859 - Time: 76828ms - Avg: 50.229 - Min: 43 - Max: 56
The comments of the game for your reference:
There are many types of missions that can be chosen from the America’s map.
Street racing, high-speed collision, breakaway from police, sky jumps, zigzagging, etc… make the game quite dynamic.
Now, when it comes to multi-player matches, the performance has exceeded expectations. Perhaps, it is the killer Ethernet that’s working the magic. Thus, this game is highly recommended if you have the right rig.
The downside is that the display intricacy is not as refined as GTA V and in addition, the game FPS is limited at 60 FPS. However, the overall gaming flow and performance is better than good.
The user's comment for using MSI Gaming 5 motherboard and 960 graphics card:
(The following commends are translated from user’s article, does not represent the viewpoint of MSI) ^^
Recently, MSI GTX 960 just launched so the initial price tag is still adjustable.
According to the current product line, it seems like this GPU is going to replace 750Ti. So once all the stocks (750Ti) at the store empties, we are most likely to see a price drop on GTX960.
Once the price hits the sweet spot, it’s time to try out GTX960 SLI’s performance.
The CP value on MSI GTX960 and GAMING 5 MB is pretty high. But the XSplit software that comes with the product is a bit annoying since the authentication steps are divided into 2 parts to go through for using it.
    Enough said, anyways, GAME ON!

NVIDIA 960 card  + GAMING 5 motherboard = best bundle for budget gaming!
it would be nice to see more testing of hardware-demanding games!

  • A Motherboard that doesn't POWER UP?? Please Help Me :(

Ok! Hi, this is my first post, but I ain't an MSI new customer. I've built about 5 computers using MSI products, including my
own... Let's get to the topic since I've got limited time and I'm at work.
I know everybody needs to know the FULL system specs, so here they go first...
    [THE FOLLOWING SYSTEM IS WATERCOOLED]
CASE - Thermaltake XaserV Series Damier V5000A
MOTHERBOARD - 865PE Neo2-PFS (Platinum Edition) (BIOS A30, the latest)
CPU - Pentium 4 3.0GHz (800MHz) (HT), the one with more capacitors at the bottom. (VERY STABLE) (NOT RUNNING OVERCLOCKED)
    RAM - Corsair XMS 1GB (2x512) PC3200 "TWINX1024-3200XLPT", running at 2-2-2-5, 2.75V, and dual channel (1 & 3) (NOT OVERCLOCKED)
VIDEO - MSI GeForceFX 5900XT 128MB DDR AGP 8X (NOT RUNNING OVERCLOCKED)
PSU - Antec TruePower 430W (Is that the right name?
HD1 - Western Digital Raptor 10K RPM, SATA, On "Master SATA channel" (36.7GB)
HD2 - Seagate Barracuda 7200 7.2K RPM, SATA, On "Secondary SATA channel" (80.0GB)
OSD1 - NEC DVD-RW, R9, (ND-3520A - updated firmware for dual layer in +DL and -DL disks. PRIMARY MASTER
OSD2 - MSI DVD-ROM, no need to get in details. PRIMARY SECONDARY
    PCIs -
3Com Ethernet - No need for details right?
    Creative SoundBlaster Audigy2 ZS
WinFast DVR PCI Video Capture Card (Can't remember the DETAILED name)
    >> Zalman Reserator 1 VGA Cooler", using the provided CPU mount for the Pentium 4
    >> Zalman ZM-GWB1 VGA Cooler COOLS BOTH THE GPU and the North Bridge, hard to install but it WORKS!
    >> (2) Zalman ZM-2HC2 NP cool down the hard drives and reduce their noise
    Temperatures:
CPU (18C idle, 40 UNDER HEAVY USE)
GPU (20C idle, 43 UNDER HEAVY USE)
North Bridge (24C idle, 40 UNDER HEAVY USE)
Where HEAVY USE means '3 hours straight 3D GAMING' (taken at the end of the hour)
That being said... this is my problem:
I was using the computer 2 weeks ago, I was in the middle of a game when the sound became choppy. Closed the game, returned
to desktop (BTW: Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2, ALL UPDATES).
The PC was SLOW... The MINIMIZING and MAXIMIZING ANIMATIONS were being RENDERED FRAME BY FRAME!!!!
    What the heck is wrong???
    Decided to restart...
    Shutting down...
Windows closed itself, left the wallpaper only and stayed there...
    Mmmm...
Pressed the RESET button... NOTHING HAPPENED!!!!!!! WHAT????????????????
    RESET BUTTON ALWAYS WORKS!
Held the POWER button... Computer didn't go off..
Oh no.. something's odd.. Shut the computer off by switching off the PSU.
Turned it back on, pressed the power button... NOTHING.
ATTENTION! Current is being drawn thru the MOBO since the Ethernet's card LIGHT IS ON (constantly GREEN).
Started messing with it.. Cleared CMOS.. Nothing... Took battery out... Nothing.
    That's odd.
Took all the PCIs out, disconnected hard disks (both power and data cables), NOTHING!!!
Left the RAM, THE AGP CARD, and the CPU... Hit the button, NOTHING.
    Why is it that!!!
Took ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the parts out, sat it on the living's room table... connected the basics. (RAM, AGP, CPU) Jumped the "power button" with a screwdriver... it went on.
Connected the power button... it worked.
Then I assembled the computer again... works like a charm.
UNTIL LAST NIGHT... Same symptoms... slow rendering of 2D animations... tried to restart... nothing happened.
    Computer didn't go back on...
I just don't feel like taking everything out again because I dont' think that is the PROBLEM, nor is HEAT because I let it sit OVERNIGTH before trying to turn it back on and even then it wouldn't go on.
ANY IDEAS ANYBODY? Could HEAT be an issue? Could the "coolCore" chipset be telling the MOBO to SHUT DOWN due to something?
I consider myself an EXTREMELY advance PC USER and technician, All I do is out of experience, and I'm only 19.
Sorry for such a sloppy post but I'm in the office and my lunch time is over...
I will be replying any questions later on, YOUR HELP IS DEEPLY APPRECIATED!!!
    Thank you!!

    Yep, I edited those.
Let me tell you that I have NOTHING to borrow or test with. I'm pretty much all by myself on this. Not even another PSU.
If the CPU is cooked, it wouldn't have powered up the first time this happened right? What I'm saying is...
This happened to me a few weeks ago... Taking evertyhign out got it fixed and got the computer back on...
Therefore, no component can be burnt since the computer worked before!
I have a feeling it's the board and let me say what...
I got it wet the first day I installed the water cooling system. :( Sorry!!!
I accidentally powered it up... Of course nothign blew up, it just didnt' boot. I had to let it dry for 48 hours and I even used a hairdryer to help out. Only then, I could put everything back in the computer and turn it on. That worked.
    Maybe it's wet again?
A water leak in the system?
    Something ODD:
You know like when you turn the power supply off and hit the POWER button in the case EVERYTHING goes ON for a fraction of a second and then dies.. Well if I do it, nothign happens! Only after a couple seconds later will the power be drained by itself. Weird.
I have tried to unplug everything one thing at the time and try to turn it on everytime I disconnected something. Nothing helped.
I'm pissed because I think I have a good system... And THIS computer behavior is something I have never seen in my life.
I DO NOT want to think water is the problem...
How will a computer react if it gets WET while it's on?? Blow up? Shut down automatically? Keep working until it's turned off?
    This is juuuuust weird.

  • Spry Menu Bar jumps off screen-right in CS6

Frustrating little glitch I'm experiencing.  When in a NON-LIVE mode in CS6, I have a Spry Menu Bar that I've placed, customized and is functioning properly.  It is precisely in the right location in BOTH live mode and in a browser preview, however, when I am editing the site the menu bar jumps off screen right to where I have to scroll right to locate it.  The only thing that pops it back in to place is by tweaking a setting like "Float" from right to left then back to right.  But once I begin to edit the site again it will jump off the screen.  This isn't a massive deal since it remains in place in live and preview modes, it's just annoying for layout purposes while I'm editing.  It sort of screws up the aesthetic of the layout.  Has anyone found the same problem?  Below is my layout.css and my Spry Menu css.

  • MSI 970a-g46 motherboard starts up but doesn't display anything.

Hello, I'm having problems with a new motherboard I got from Amazon, specifically the 970a-g46. The following are my specs in use with this motherboard:
    CPU: AMD Phenom 2 x4 965
    GPU: nVidia GeForce 560 GTX
Ram: 8gb Kingston HyperX Fury 1866mhz.
    PSU: Corsair 650TX (650 Watts)
Compatability-wise, everything checks out so I wasn't expecting problems at first. All the other parts excluding the ram I've used before. Here's exactly what happens:
I power up the computer after everything is installed and connected. The 4 phase LEDs turn on which tell me the CPU is powered up and working (so I assume). I don't get any beeps or buzzs mainly because I don't see any speaker/buzzer on this board. The monitor blinks and while it is connected to my GPU, it doesn't display anything, it's just a black screen. I can leave it on for a few minutes and I'll still not see anything happen. An important observation here is that my keyboard which has LEDs will turn on after a short period of time in boot-up (with my older set-up that is). This does not happen ever regardless of how long I leave my computer on on this new mobo.
I've gone over and checked/tested numerous things:
    * The PCI-E and ATX cables for the GPU, motherboard and CPU are all connected and secured (I've tried both 4-pin and 8-pin connections for the CPU, neither help).
    * I've tried jumping the CMOS multiple times to no avail.
    * I tested the ram on another computer and it worked just fine on that one.
    * I've tested the motherboard without a GPU and it still does nothing (though I think that's because this motherboard doesnt have its own integrated GPU for some reason).
So far the only possible reasons why my computer is not working is because of my PSU (very unlikely as it's only a year old and it's a Corsair, which I've heard is very reliable in the long-run), GPU (It is quite a few years old but even without the GPU my computer still doesn't go past boot-up), CPU (possible due to its age and how many freaking time I've reseated it (probably around 8 times) so I wouldn't doubt it, but before I put it into this motherboard I did check its pins and they were all there and placed nice and smoothly into the socket.) and finally the motherboard (it's possible that this is just a defected motherboard and giving me a super hard time which would be a first in all the years I"ve spent computer building).
The best case scenario of course is me giving some kind of oversight to how I transferred over the parts and connectors. I might've missed something obvious to please any advice/insight on how I can solve this problem would be greatly appreciated
EDIT: Some other things I did but forgot to mention:
    * Checked ground nut things and ensured they matched the specifications of the motherboard ATX; only 6 are under the board and each one is aligned up with the holes on the board as designed.
    * Tried booting up without powering the CPU. Only one phase LED light came on, still the same problem (for an obvious reason this time now).
    * Re-seated GPU multiple times, re-connected cables multiple times.
What I have NOT done is re-seat the CPU because I am almost out of acetone so I would need to get another supply of that which won't be until tomorrow. I also have not re-seated everything back on my older motherboard to check if it still works. Tomorrow I'll most likely do that and if I find that the old motherboard works flawlessly then that tells me that the new motherboard I got is either defected or there's some compatability issue I"m missed out on.
EDIT 2: Just found a speaker and plugged it into the motherboard. Booted it up and I got no beeps whatsoever. So this mobo is giving me no video activity (there is a signal it's just blank), and no beeps from the motherboard. I have no idea what that could mean at this point.
EDIT 3: I decided to test a few things with the new speaker I just got. First I removed ram and tried running, I got 3 beeps which I assume is the beep sequence of faulty/no ram. Removed the power to CPU and the GPU itself individually, gave no beeps this time.

What's the serial number of your MB? Needed to determine what BIOS may be on the MB. Exactly which version of the CPU is it? There were several different 965 CPUs and they required different BIOS versions, 1.2, 1.9,2.2 depending on which CPU you actually have.
Also another problem may be that native memory supported by your CPU is DDR3-1333, not 1866
None of the supported CPUs have integrated graphics, any MB graphics would be in the chipset, not CPU. Examples would be 785G, 880G
Thank you very much rhradacut! The problem was that the mobo for whatever reason was forcing 1866mhz on my CPU when it only supported up to 1600mhz. I had to install a spare ddr3 module to downclock it so that I could access the BIOS and manually set the DRAM timing to 1600mhz for it to work. That's a very strange problem that I figured would've been auto-resolved by the hardware, and would also be a big problem if I didn't have any spare DDR3 ram to work with.
Once again thanks for helping out on solving my problem.

  • Powerbook crashes at least once a day; time to jump ship?

Hi, my powerbook has been crashing a lot lately, and it's scaring me a bit. I replaced the hard drive in December because it failed, and I've been using a new HD for about 4 months. This problem only showed up in the last few days. It's strange, the screen just goes black and I can't get it to wake up again, but it responds to a manual restart. This is an error report from the latest crash.

    Hi Wei343, sorry Bgreg,
never mind the light sensors for the time being. I would urge you to try someting else 1st. I didn't put it in my last entry, because your crash report didn't mention anything about the lower memory slot. Is there supposed to be an SODIMM in the lower slot of your machine? Then I'd rather call it the lower sl*t, forgive my language.
The crash report you have shown us more recently tells us lower slot memory has failed.
As mentioned elsewhere in this forum, a PB 1.67GHz 15" ALU which I have recently repaired acted up in the same way- no startup chimes and frequent very serious kernel panics after which it would only start up after resetting the PMU. Sounds familiar?
What I would want you to try is simply remove the RAM from the lower slot and restart. If the system is acting normally after that, startup chimes and all, you are having the same problem as I had.
On this forum (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1951188&tstart=0) and via rumours, I found out that with some models, the memory controller chip is faulty, and sometimes does not or only recognises some of the memory in the lower slot, thus causing kernel panics if. Sounds reasonable: the machine loses RAM it wants to read from in order to keep the system running, but there is nothing to read from! Leaving this slot empty will be the cheapest workaround, if you can live with less memory as I can. My machine has been rock stable even running at 100% CPU usage. Just go easy on multi-tasking. Otherwise you will need to repair or replace the motherboard- or patiently run tests with other RAM in the lower slot: I've been told sometimes some rare SODIMMS will work.
Sorry if this seems a bit outlandish, but it solved the problem with my PB!
Good luck and keep us posted.
