Twilight Zone - Pages

I'm in the Twilight Zone. Can't open Pages docs, prompt says I need an update.
Go to App Store, no Update shown as needed. Try to obtain one via the store without paying $19.95 again and told "not going to happen." Stuck in the wheel going round and round.
Using 10.10.1
What's the solution?

Use Microsoft Word. Really. Unlike Pages, it just works. Want facing pages? Word has that feature. Pages doesn't. Want mail merge? Ditto. Want the ability to link text boxes: yep, you can do it in Word, not Pages. How many words in your doc? How many pages, and what page are you on? Glance down to the status bar in Word, there it is. In Pages? There is no status bar! If you view the little bubble with the word count, it actually hovers over part of your text! And on and on and on. I really cannot fathom what Apple was trying to do with its destruction of Pages, but the entire 5.x experience has been, as one early reviewer put it, and "unmitigated disaster."

  • Canon i9900 via Firewire in the Twilight Zone

    My Mac cannot find my Canon i9900, connected via Firewire. It worked fine before I upgraded. After the upgrade, all of the printers were no longer available. I only have this one printer physically available to me at the moment to reconnect, and only a Firewire cable so I can't see if it works via USB.
    I have:
    --checked to see if the driver is installed. It appears to be.
    --checked to see if the System Profiler shows the Firewire connection to the printer, and it does.
    --reset my printer system.
    I tried to go to the Canon web site to download and reinstall the driver, but their website is having issues right now and I can't get to the download page. Their tech support, is of course, closed. But I think the driver for this printer is supposed to be included.
    Any ideas?

    By reading through the lines on some threads WAAAY down below (pages 30 - 35) I figured this out.
    I needed to reinstall the Canon 10.4 driver so that the Canon Firewire driver would be reinstalled. As soon as I did this, I saw the Canon Firewire option show up, and there was my printer!
    Since the Canon Americas web site wasn't working for me, I downloaded and installed the driver for the i9150 from the Oceania site. That did the trick.

    hi all
    i have the case of files designators (nef, pds etc) that either appera of disapear when importin from cameras, harddrives etc,.  between pse 9.02 and organizer9.
    i have turned the file-type designator in the prefs file on a off, off an on, finder osx10.6.8,
    every combination with restarts of computer.
    then, sometime i have to put in the program identifyer my self so the organizer can read the file when importin from harddrive.

    uninstalled everything. reinstalled everything.  removed preferences. extentions turned on. extentions turned off. 
    final result --- works (sort of)
    1.  when i open a raw nef file in orgnaizer 9.02, i have to save the original as a nef file.
    2.  after the nef file is saved, i can then "save-as" the pix and i can get the extentions to change if i check the "save as version". 
    3.  i then uncheck the "save as version box" and from then on the extentions chnage as they should.

  • Logic in the Twilight Zone

    This afternoon I started everything up, to return to a track: the last one of a project. First off, I was writing an email,while Logic launched the song, the song opens and I start playing it, still writing the email. Suddenly, Logic quits: oh, well, I thought; sent the email and relaunched. This time when getting to the stage of loading an East West Platinum Pro patch, Logic crashes again. This repeatedly happened, same place each time, so I went back to basics and started up a vanilla autoload: fine. Then I tried one of my own templates from the dock, where I keep them: that opened, but immediately disappeared! No "Logic unexpectedly quit", etc. Just poof! vanished. I tried several other custom templates, and they all performed this disappearing act. So, I'm getting really panicky: I have to finish this album before the studio is relocated. I decide to post the problem on this forum: Safari repeatedly crashes.
    I check all the usual suspects: no problems anywhere. I then decide to open the vanilla song again and try opening one of my templates from that. It works. I save it, and then try opening it from the dock: it works fine again, and so do all the others, plus the problem song.
    What was that all about? I'm running 7.2.2, and until then it had been more or less fine, but that was a bit alarming. Has anyone any ideas, and should I take any other measures? There was also a bit more fan activity when all this was happening.
    It felt like the whole thing was on the edge of collapse.

    From my PC days, I learned that once you have an application crashing, it can leave the computer in a little bit of a flaky state, so I got into the habit of saving copies of anything important, and restarting.
    Generally these days OS's are much better at protecting themselves from application crashes, but sometimes things can go screwy. It sounds like Logic crashed and caused the computer, the audio or MIDI subsystem and anything else Logic uses from the OS to go flaky.
    In this case, I would have done a restart to cause any aberrant behaviour to calm down, but it seems like it recovered on its own. (I'd still restart though).
    Normally an application will crash cleanly and can simply be restarted, but sometimes...

  • L775S7248 W7 stuck in recovery disk twilight zone,

     everyday is something new. HD failed last Oct, Toshiba covered it, lasted maybe 6 months and out of coverage, Buy new WD hard drive and thought I'd make a clean start without Toshibas karma and installed windows 7 SP1 from an .ISO file. input windows key but it says it's incorrect (re-input it exactly and still says the same thing) every  adaptor  for internet access has no drivers loaded or available, and the recommendation is go to the manufacturer web site and downlaod them (wtf, if I could do that I wouldn't have this problem would I)  so I fool around and decide to use the 5 disk recovery set I made, #1 and 2 disk take quite awhile the #3 short cycles and asks for next disk, #4 lasts 30 seconds and asks for next, #5 lasts 30 seconds and asks for next disk ... wtf? Theres only 5, now it's stuck on recovery regardless of what disk, if any, is in the drive. I'd like to thank Toshiba for their outstanding product (it really stands out) and their support site that even with the model number input the driver/updates are for multiple OS systems and models and the results do not specify what they are for, this laptop has enough internal quirks without being fed drivers/update for the incorrect OS/model. If someone can actually help it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

    I'm sorry to hear about the problems. The support site lists all possible drivers. You still have to choose the appropriate one.
    I'd recommend you try the discs again. If they still behave the same, there's obviously some problem. You could try ordering replacement recovery media or there could be some other problem that could require servicing.

  • TWILIGHT ZONE in my User folder

    After working with 50 GB of footage in Imovie, I emptied the Imovie trash. But it still says ( even after restarting it ) that it still contains the 50 GB on my hard disk ( resulting that I only have 2 GB to work with )!
    After some searching, I found that my Users folder is holding the 50 GB. But when I open the folder, there's nothing of the footage nor any other quicktime related files.
    How can I get back my 50 GB?! Do I need to go back to the store for repairs???

    Are you done doing all the video editing? If so, you probably need to delete your iMovie project (probably in your Movies folder). This is where the whole project is stored. Editing and putting files in iMovie's trash it doesn't make your project any smaller (iMovie is non-distructive), so you'll have to delete the project itself. But, I'm no iMovie expert, you might want to search through the iMovie forum to see if anyone else has posted a similar question.
    If you still can't figure out what's taking up so much hard drive space, you might use a utility like WhatSize to go through your MacBook. It will sort everything by size for you.

    Ever since the OTN conversion to SSO, I get these marketing emails from oracle and they're apparently using my OTN account --- HOWEVER, the name on these emails is "Kelly Summers"! That's not me and my OTN preferences don't include 'subscribing' to these emails.
    Can someone straighten out my account?
    btw -- this is a funny way of asking for account maintenance / support. There REALLY should be a direct method -- like, oh, e-mail?

  • Twilight zone problem - missing media file

    I'm really at a loss on this one: I have a DV Quicktime file I captured using the DV - NTSC 48khz preset. The file is online in the FCP browser. I can open it and scroll through the entire tape - it's all there. When I right-click on the file and look at the 'Item Properties' it names the correct path for the file location (i.e. in the Capture Scratch folder on my RAID). When I go into the Finder and open that folder (the one where the Quicktime movie file should be, then one where FCP claims it currently is) the file is not there. The Finder lists the contents of the folder as "O items". However, if I check the size of the folder, it claims it's 12.37 GB - the same size as the Quicktime movie file. All signs point to the Quicktime movie file being in this folder, but it's not there.
    I used the Finder to search my computer for it and found nothing - yet it's online in FCP. I used the Media Manager in FCP to move it to another location. It did so and re-linked in FCP just fine, but when I checked the folder in the Finder - same thing, the file is not there...there's nothing there, yet the folder contents are 12.37GB.
    Really bizarre. I can always recapture and (I think) solve the problem that way, but I'd like to know what's going on here. Any suggestions?
    EDIT: I also searched for the same files using an Invisible Files filter and it did not find it.

    You should try to list the files with Terminal:
    Open Terminal
    1. Type cd then drag the folder into the window, then do Enter.
    This will go this folder.
    2. Type *ls -al* then Enter.
    This will list all files in this folder, even invisible ones.

  • Why can't I open documents from Pages ?

    I downloaded the new Pages software, but can't seem to open any documents previously created - still is telling me I have to download pages?? Help

    The best advice is to exclusively use Pages ’09 if it was installed prior to the Pages v5 upgrade downgrade. The older Pages will be found in /Application/iWork '09. Any double-click on a Pages document will invoke Pages v5.
    I would bet that you had Pages ’08 or ’09 previously installed (now moved to /Applications/iWork '0?). Pages v5(.2) dropped support for Pages '08 and RTF documents. Pages v5(.2) document architecture is incompatible with Pages '09 while still retaining the .pages extension — just to keep you guessing.
    If you attempt to open this new document architecture in the older Pages application, it will not tell you about this incompatibility, and just remind you to that you need the new Pages version. It is too stupid to notice that the latest Pages v5 application is installed. If you open a Pages ’09 created document with that application, you will get the same warning, because Apple thinks you should use Pages v5(.2) instead.
    Pages v5(.2) will be all too glad to open a Pages ’09 document without any acknowledgement that you are entering the Twilight Zone, and that this document has quietly been transformed into a Pages v5 document architecture — no longer compatible with Pages ’09. Although there is an Export > Pages ’09 feature, the significant differences in application feature support means that you likely will not get a 1:1 correlation export compatibility with Pages ’09.

  • How to create a Payment Form for access to multiple secure zones

    I'm trying to create a Payment Form that allows the user to select from a dropdown of videos, each of which represents a secure zone page with an embedded video.
    What I can't figure out -- and tech chat can't help -- is how to redirect the user to the correct secure zone for the video they purchased.
    Videos are are streaming, vimeo embeds, not downloads.
    Anyone know how to do this? Can post link to test form if you need it.

    This can be done for already available list. Have a look at the following steps:
    Create an Empty SharePoint Project, then right click the project, add SharePoint “Layouts” Mapped Folder.
    Right click the project name, add New item Application Page, then add the custom code there.
    Under Features, add a feature, right click the added feature then add an event receiver, override the FeatureActivated method to set the new edit/new form as the default form.
    How to set new form as default form:

  • How to create raw partition in a local zone?

    I tried to search for an answer for my question, but I spent a week and still no luck.
    What I am trying to do is to create raw partitions for Sybase in a local zone. I tried to add device and set match to the block and raw device.
    However, when I tried to do "format", I got core dumped. When I did zpool create, I got permission denied. Any advice?

    You can't manipulate pools directly in a non-global zone. I'm not sure if you can run 'format'. You can use at least a limited amount of globbing. You might want to put a '*' at the end of your matched device name.
    You can hand off a raw partition via 'match' and put it under UFS control, or with recent versions of Solaris Express, you can delegate a portion of a ZFS filesystem to the zone.

    Especially the section on using ZFS in a zone (page 171). Note the guide is for the most recent version of ZFS in OpenSolaris. Versions available in Solaris 10 may not have all the same features.

    Hi, So i have just made the log in page for a basebase ball team. When i go Log in - http://redfernredsox.businesscatalyst.com/log-in.html ( Enter any username or password still does it)
    I enter The Username and Password - then when i press log in this comes up - https://redfernredsox.worldsecuresystems.com/ZoneProcess.aspx?ZoneID=141&Referrer=http%3a% 2f%2fredfernredsox.businesscatalyst.com&OID=5558009&OTYPE=1 . I have not changed any infomation from the secure zone HTML block from the add secure zone page in BC. This alsos happens on the Rego page when they submit the form.

    For the username that you are using to login, have you made sure that user is subscribed to your secure zone?  Find the customer record associated with that username in the BC Admin area at CRM > Customers and search for that customer.  When you are on their customer record, goto the Subscriptions tab and make sure they are subscribed to that secure zone. 
    If that's ok-- goto your secure zone settings at Site Manager > Secure Zones and choose your secure zone and click the Details tab. Make sure the page you are using for the "Landing page" is also set as a secure page.  Goto the "Secured Content" tab and make sure that the page you are using as the landing page is on the right side of that list-- if it's not there you can move it from the left to the right to make it secure.

    How do I associate a zone to a single (global zone) project?
    I had an ugly solution but guessed I missed the better way.
    The following are a list of fantasy commands that I wish were there!
    Doing this from zonecfg would be ideal,
      zonecfg -z workzone1
      zonecfg:workzone1> set project=workproj1Or maybe via it's pool,
      poolcfg -dc 'modify pool workpool1 ( string pool.project = "workproj1" )'Or the opposite of poolbind,

    I've just visited your zones page. It's great !
    One small thing that could be added to the "Disk Size Resource Control Intro" : you can also limit the disk usage of a zone by creating a file in the global zone (with mkfile for example), lofi mount that and then put the zone root on that file. It's described on docs.sun.com.
    I don't know about the performance of this; it's probably the least recommended option, but it's quickest to set up if you don't have a slice dedicated for this.

  • Custom confirmation web form page

    I have built a custom registration web form that works with a secure zone and when a subscriber registers and hits submit I would like it to either 1.) redirect directly to the page in the secure zone or if that is not possible, 2.) link to a log in page that directs to the secure zone page instead of hitting submit and going to the default confirmation page.
    I also saw a similar question (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4536842#4536842), but could not get the new redirect ID correctly.

    You need to add "&PageID=/video-confirmation" to your form's ACTION attribute.  Add it to the end of what was there originally, and yes, you need to leave that string of code after the URL in there.  There's important information being passed from the form to BC letting them know where to sign you in, etc.
    If you need to redo it, just insert your form into your page fresh and then add "&PageID=/video-confirmation" to the end of the form's action attribute.  You are passing your URL to the "WebFormID" parameter which should actually be the numerical ID of your form which is why you are probably getting 404 (not found) errors.  Also, make sure that your destination page at "/video-confirmation" is resolving normally as well.
