Twin 23" monitors or 1 24'?

I can buy twin 23" ips panel monitors for about $100 more than one 24" ips. Given your preference which would you chose to work with?
The 24' is the HP ZR24w
The 23" is the NEC EA 231WMi or maybe the Dell U2311H
Any advantages to having two monitors on one stand?
Your experiences are greatly appreciated.
Anybody have any pictures of their set up to post?

  • Twin video monitors (bug?)

Ever since I changed from Tiger to SL about 90% of my logic projects open on the right side monitor only, They used to open across both monitors every time.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

"ALSO: I read somewhere that even if you have component, it is better to use composite because you see what most people will see, since most people have composite signal consumer equipment. Using component might lead you into doing things that the NTSC composite signal won't reproduce well. Would you all agree with this???"
Bunkus. You should use the highest quality method of transfer available. Anything else is just a load of uninformed crap. If you're going with that thinking, I might as well get rid of my Mackie 824s and Sony PVM19 in favor of a crappy 15" RCA television that the "majority" of people watching my stuff are going to see. You want it to look as clean as possible in every step of the way, and if you're down-grading it while monitoring, you're just missing things.

  • Can no longer get native resolution on monitor

For the better part of a year I had two twin Viewsonic monitors set at 1440x900 with my Mac Pro (late 2011) Radeon 5770. One plugged right into the DVI, then another with an Apple Mini-DP to VGA adapter. Everything was fine, and I'm not sure what changed, but now, suddenly, I cannot find the correct resolution in Displays, and it is simply displayed as "VGA Display" and the display is blurry. I have reset the PRAM, reset the settings on the monitor, repaired disk permissions, thrown away some system prefs files I found via Google, and plugged cables in every possible combination (as I have a myriad of such cables), I even have a secondary Mini-Displayport to VGA adapter. All signs point to software. I have the latest update of Mac OS X Lion.  I have even tried SwitchResX to no avail, but to be honest, I didn't spend the hours of time it would take to study monitor technology, refresh rates, hsync, vsync, etc etc...
Can anyone help with a suggestion, I'm going bannanas over here... I have Applecare but I'm sure they'll just tell me fresh to reinstall Mac OS X. (Hrmm sounds like Windows.. Oh yeah, that reminds me... in Bootcamp the monitors work fine.)

it is simply displayed as "VGA Display"
That is how your Display Identified itself to Mac OS X. If the display only provides that as a name, and does not provide its full capabilities, Mac OS X cannot determine its true capabilities and you get an abbreviated set of resolutions to avoid damaging your display.
As you discovered, you can use a cheater program like SwitchResX.
There is nothing wrong with your Mac. That is the way it was designed.
There is nothing wrong with these Forums, either. They have always been User-to-User forums, and Apple never posts here. If you want Apple to help, you need to take your equipment to an Apple Store (free evaluation) or call AppleCare and pay their charges (which they may waive later for certain problems) if you are out of your free phone support period.

  • How to load and save custom workspaces in PE7

I've written a little utility which allows PE7 users to load and save custom workspaces. It's attached to post #1 of this thread.
    System requirements
The utility has been tested with Windows XP Pro SP3 only. It might or might not run under Vista. It will only work with PE7 installations where the executable files are in the default places.
    Installation
When you have downloaded the utility (it's only 199KB) you can run it from any convenient place in your system - it doesn't need to be installed as such.
    Usage
It's pretty self-explanatory in use but here's the manual!
    Run the downloaded utility "PE7WS.exe".
A file selection dialog appears. Choose the workspace layout file you wish to use. "LastUsed.layout" is the last used workspace (that's all you will be offered the first time you run the program). If you press Cancel at this point, the program will exit and nothing will happen.
Once you have selected the workspace, click "Open" and Premiere Elements 7 will run, using the workspace layout you chose.
After you exit from Premiere Elements 7, a workspace layout file save dialog will appear. If you made changes to the workspace during your Premiere Elements 7 session, you can now give the revised workspace a name and save it.
Do not save the workspace in a different directory from that which the dialog offers!
If you have changed an existing custom workspace, and you want to update the version previously stored, just select the name and over-write the saved workspace layout with the new one.
If you don't want to save the workspace at all, just click "Cancel" - next time you run Premiere Elements, you can choose the "LastUsed.layout" workspace to use that last used unsaved workspace in any event.
If you use the PE7WS utility to run Premiere Elements 7, and then you use the menu option "Window > Restore Workspace", then exit, you can either cancel the workspace saving stage, (which will mean that "LastUsed.layout" will contain that default workspace), or you could give that default workspace a name like "PE7 Default" so you can start a future Premiere Elements 7 session with the default workspace, even though you last used a custom workspace.
If you run Premiere Elements 7 in the usual way without using PE7WS.exe, the workspace that appears will be the last used one.
    The usual disclaimer...
The utility should be entirely safe in use, but I can't accept responsibility for any loss or damage it might cause. However, the only file manipulation is does is to workspace files in the directory that Premiere Elements 7 uses purely for the purpose - the utility doesn't go anywhere near your precious project files.

I'm finding it very handy on my particular twin 22" monitor setup to sometimes use a one-screen layout and sometimes a two screen layout. I 'discovered' that having the timeline on the second monitor enables me to tweak edits there while having the playback full size after pressing the "full screen" button on the first monitor. Where the timeline would normally be I have the history, mixer, and other windows always open. As the second monitor is also used by another PC (the one I have the net and email etc on) using "Maxivista" monitor sharing software, I revert to single screen layout when doing stuff like exporting to DVD so I can see what is going on with the render while typing stuff like this.
    Selectable workspaces are dead handy!

  • PowerMac 5.1 drag and drop not working, any suggestions?

Powers Mid 2010 5.1 running 10.10.3, drag and drop not working smoothly, won't engage to drag. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the return, well, just trying to relocate a web screen or move a saved application from the desktop into a folder. I use Final Cut Pro Ten extensively and sometimes I want to drag something off my desktop into the time line on the FCPX. When I left click and hold on the item to drag it doesn't seem to engage then when it does move it quits along the way to the drop point. I hope that makes since too you? I use a Logitech two button with a scroll wheel wired mouse and have twin 32" monitors. Thanks Latranner

  • Program opens out of range of mouse

I have a silly problem that I know someone has the answer to. I just upgraded from a twin CRT monitor setup to a single Flat 19" Wide Screen (Second monitor coming soon). When I open this one program ( SnapzPro, if that matters ) it appears just out of range. It is up in the top left corner of my monitor, and I can't bring into range with the mouse. The active area to do this is not visable. I know there must be a way to bring it into view with the keyboard, but I can't figure it out. Any assitance is greatly appreciated.
PowerMac G4 Mirror Door   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

First of all, is the offending window at the front? If it isn't, use cmd-tab to make sure the application SnapzPro is the front application, and if necessary cmd-grave accent (`) to bring the offending window to the front. If the Zoom command is still greyed out, then give up on that approach.
The VoiceOver approach is pretty simple: hit cmd-F5 to activate it, and cmd-tab to bring SnapzPro to the front. Then hold down ctrl and option and type grave accent (ctrl-opt-`). VoiceOver says "Move window"; you then use your arrow keys to shift it into the right place. Helpfully, the X and Y coordinates of the top-left-hand corner of the window are read out as you move it. When it's in the right place, hit Esc. VoiceOver says "Stop moving window"; you can then turn it off by hitting cmd-F5 again.
A third approach only works if your old monitors are still available: plug them in, fire up the app, then move the window (down and right?) until it's in what will be a reasonable place when you switch back to the new monitor.

  • How the Element panels are mapped in SpeedGrade CC

    Hi,
We've just posted some documents on our website Support page that provide details of how the Element panels are mapped in SpeedGrade CC.
    See http://www.tangentwave.co.uk/support/documents/ElementSpeedGradePanelMaps.zip
The only part that isn't covered is the Stereo3D controls.
Don't forget you can also make up a keypress map so you can also control Premier
For details on how to do this see http://www.tangentwave.co.uk/support/documents/KeypressAppQuickGuide.pdf
    Cheers,
    Chris

That is what ColorMatch2 is there for ... to match to a snapshot you've got in the snapshot listing. Check the documentation for this, as it is something that is explained there. The process is to click on the camera/snapshot icon lower right of the program monitor panel ..
... which brings up a twin-view monitor and the most recent snapshots you've made within Sg. Pick one, or navigate to a different snapshot, and using the "Reference" right-side set of three controls, choose your dark, light, & mid value. Then do the same using the left-side set of three controls from the current spot in the playhead of the footage you're grading. Sg then tries to map everything else out accordingly.

  • Does anyone know How to run twin monitors on a MacBook Pro operating on a Windows Server 2008 R2 ?

    Hi
Does anyone know How to run twin monitors on a MacBook Pro operating on a Windows Server 2008 R2 ?

I know this doesn't help you much, but, I think you have to see if your Mac pro does audio out via HDMI. I don't even know if mine does via DVI. I think it may have to do with the adapter. Try going into Audio MIDI and setting the digital out to multichannel
and using the toslink cable for now. Lemme see...apparently DVI does not carry audio at all. Hm. apparently monoprice could be helpful?  If I understand what you're saying correctly: you want to take DVI and multichannel audio via the Toslink and have it all go out over HDMI, right? Whooo..... amazon...looks like it's about $100http://www.amazon.com/Audio-SPDIF-Toslink-Converter-Adapter/dp/B0015YYOQQ
just a shot in the dark
    I'm probably wrong....or not

  • MSI R7870 TWIN FROZR 2GDS - cant detect monitor. (no signal/no video input)

I already post this before, but it seem it being blocked as I didnt have the genuine window. (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162310.msg1189334#msg1189334)
Fine by me. Now I alrdy have a genuine window and the problem still occur.
I already test both the hdmi and the dvi but the result still the same. still no signal or no video input. And I also test the desktop on other monitor and the result problem pointed at the graphic card.
And as stated in my previous topic, when I remove the graphic card can connect the monitor through the hdmi on the mother board it work fine.
Here some spec of my desktop.
    Windows7 ultimatel SP1 64bit

    samsung DVD RW drives
    1x bracuda 3T harddisk.
Hope you guys can help me solve this problem. Thank you.

as long as you take all the cables out one by one carfully without more then a few pounds of force with a slight wiggle as they come up its not that hard to do then take the whole PSU and the gpu to your friends house to see if it works
hell if you dont want to plumb the whole unit into his rig on the main 20/24 pin connector find the green cables pin and any neer by black ground cable and jump your psu with a paperclip in the wholes and just connected to your graphics card in his case and psu outside his case to only power your card and flip the power switch to turn it on quite easy (10 mins to do max)!

  • Install on twin monitors - impossible to maximise on screen 2

Just installed Premiere Elements 7 (and photoshop elements 7).
Have twin monitors and want to display on screen 2 as is bigger screen. Can move to that screen but impossible to adjust program size - drag handles do not work and maximize leaves as same size as smaller screen.
Both programs are the same. All other programs maximise to larger screen without issue so am guessing this is unique to these programs.
how do i get them to maximise to 2nd monitor?
    Thanks.

I'm only trying to use / maximise it on one screen at a time, on Monitor 1 (prime) all works fine. On monitor 2 (secondary) none of the resize or maximize functions work.
These work fine with all Office applications, Dreamweaver and all other windows programs.
As an experiment I changed the monitor order, they work as expected on the primary monitor, whichever is selected, but fail on the secondary, again whichever is expected.
The problem clearly lies with these particular bits of software.

  • 6950 Twin Frozr II OC 3 monitors

I have the 6950 Twin Frozr II OC video card on a pc build running WIN7 Pro that i was able to get 2 Samsung 3550 monitors running.  I have the 2 Samsung 3550 monitors connected to the 2 DVI ports (1 port is DVI Dual and 1 is DVI single  from what I've gathered reading from this forum). It is working great with that setup.
It dawned on me why not try to add the Samsung Sync Master from my last PC build to have 3 Monitors connected?
Now with the 3rd monitor (Samsung SnycMaster) I tried using a convertor adapter (DVI to Mini Display port) from Radio Shack ($39) that has additional ports besides the DVI a HDMI, and Display Port to convert to Mini Display Port. Which I think is overkill for 1 adapter because you can only 1 device.  After cold rebooting it sees all three monitors during boot up. After Login however the SyncMaster goes blank. In the Catalyst console it sees all three but is says 1 monitor must be disabled. In the Windows display properties it is grayed out in the resolution settings, and won't save any other changes. If I disable 1 of the other 2 monitors, It will let me modify settings for the SyncMaster monitor. But it is still only 2 monitors.
I went and purchased 2 Apple converter adapters (DVI to Mini Display Port $19/each) ). I am guessing that this is the next step to try. Bypassing 1 of the DVI ports of the video card.
So I would have 1 DVI to the Monitor and 2 Mini Display Ports to the other 2 monitors.
Is this how it should be setup for 3 monitors?
Which DVI Port on the video card should I use?
The DVI Dual or the DVI Single?

you can only use 3 if your running them as an Eyefinity display groop as one huge screen! if you want 1 with your OS and 2 extended'd screens you have to have 2 graphics cards!

  • 660 Twin Frozr III 2GB multiple VGA monitors?

Hi, I am wondering if it is possible to attach more than one VGA monitor to this graphics card.
In my previous card (570 MSI Twin Frozr) I could plug both in via DVI adapters but the second DVI port does not work on this card (I believe because it is DVI-D not DVI-I) and I cannot find a suitable adapter to make the VGA work with this port or any of the other ports on this card (display port, hdmi).
Does anyone here have any suggestions how I can plug in a second VGA monitor in to this card's ports? If not I may have to go back to my 570 which I would rather not.
    Thanks

Thanks guys, for some reason I thought it was impossible for the other ports to display non-digital signal! I'll look for a displayport to vga adapter on amazon now.
    Thanks again.

Here is an article that uses a 6870 card. Probably has the same output ports as yours.
They connected 3 monitors, all with DVI in connections.

No reason your connections shouldn't work the same.
You may have to get HDMI to VGA and/or DVI to VGA converters if your screens only have VGA in connectors.

  • Twin Monitors plugged in to an Apple Mac Laptop

    I want to buy an iBook or a PowerBook notebook / laptop but before I do I want to know if I can do the following;
    1. Plug two extra flat screen monitors via a splitter into the single monitor socket in the notebook / laptop.
I know it can be done on non Apple Mac products using a Matrox DualHead2Go external multi-display upgrade but it needs either MS Windows XP or Windows 2000, then I'm guessing it might not be possible on an Apple Mac.
Please advise ASAP as I'm ready to buy.
    Regards,
    DENBO.
    N/A     N/A

Out of the box, the iBook G4 can only mirror what's on the built-in display to a single VGA display connected with the special VGA adapter that comes with the iBook. But, the iBook's video system is not listed on Matrox's own compatibility page here. In fact, the video system in the PowerBooks isn't listed either. Also this hardware requires software drivers to be installed on the computer and they haven't written a Mac version. So, I don't think you're going to be able to use this device with a Mac.
