Twin unpowered USB hub for connecting external HDD and iphone

I have a MBA and a powered Kensington 7 port USB hub which works great when I am either at home/in the office.
Is there an unpowered twin port USB hub that would allow me to connect both my WD myv passport 320gb external HDD and 3g iphone to my MBA when i am truly on the move?
thanks in advance

Because those are both drawing power from the macbook air, it might be questionable, but any should do, but I haven't seen any 2 port hubs, only four port ones, and I tend to like Logiix, as their support is good and their products are good also, and they are fairly low profile.

  • Are the usb cables for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s interchangeable?

Can I use my usb cable provided by my ipad 2 to connect my iPhone 4s to my iMac or vice versa. I noticed the usb cable for the iPad 2 is slightly thicker. Doesn't it mean it's better or faster in terms of transmission of data? Thank you.

    Identical cables.

  • Is there any API for connecting web server and iphone apps

    Hi,
I have to retrieve data from Web Server and display in my iphone apps. I want to know that is there any API through which i can connect my apps to server and get data.
One way i know that use NSURLConnection and get XML response and prase it and use it like that.
    So anyone know this?
    Thanks.

NSURLConnection is straightforward to use. In the mobile world, and especially if you intend to use certain google APIs, I would rather tend to use JSON instead of XML. A great JSON parser for objective-c is here: http://code.google.com/p/json-framework/

  • Is it possible that iMac corrupts connected external hdd-s drive via USB?

Is it possible that iMac corrupts connected external hdd-s drive via USB? (two wd cav. green 2tb from different purchase went down in one day, both from the backside usb ports)
First one of my video storage hdd, full of files suddenly got extremely slow, and a few minutes later, it unmounted itself, but with the unmount error, but nobody even touched the cables, electricity etc. When I tried to mount it again, it did not respond, just give a periodical load light and ticking. First I thought it must be hardware failure, but since I bought a brand new drive today and it made the same problem as soon as I tried to format it. I got suspicious. The consol, said about these - i googled all but now solution so far. (WesternFresh is my drive)
Oct 23 17:10:58 xxxx fseventsd[47]: disk logger: failed to open output file /Volumes/WesternFresh/.fseventsd/636573acca1d6550 (No such file or directory). mount point /Volumes/WesternFresh/.fseventsd

    Oct 24 17:23:05 tmdc diskarbitrationd[16]: unable to probe /dev/disk1 (status code 0xFFFFFFFA).
and there was an I/O faliure not but it was on another mac - where i hoped itt will come back to live.
I think - if it is possible - that the OS maybe misunderstand something about these drives, and try to change - maybe permissions - all the time if a usb external connects...? (I am not really into it as you see )
Also about Disk Utility - it does not see any partition on the old hdd, but i shows the name of the product. If I connect the new hdd via the keyboard usb, the disk utility is able to see and format it, but the hdd will be still slow and tikking after it.
Also I tried Disk Warrior (freezd out) and Techtool Pro 6 thanks to some ol'frineds - which also not saw the old hdd, but did nothing useful with the new one.
About cav green: I have 3 of them and no error so far, and got 4 1tb cav green in 2 mybook studio II also without any problem.
Iam a bit scared, and try not to plug in any usb hdd-s now, but I have to continue work, so I need solutions.
I hope if it is not hardware failure, maybe some tricky terminal code will bring back the viability of my old hdd - and I won't have to spend a lot of money to recover data.
    strange.
    if anybody has a clue?
    update 1:
    i found this post also:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15905481#15905481
I also made the mentioned steps - but it is a bit different sice it reproduce itself and I cant use DU.

It turned out that WD is the big bad guy in this game.
According the data rescue company where I asked for an inspection, both of the drives had their reader head loose. And in the one, which was my already-in-use disk its even damaged the platters... xxxxx
So its time to pay bunch of money to recover, and take a walk to wd service to bang on the desk.
Also note - it may be somehow related to intellispeed technology - since macs not really friendly with wd-s built-in solutions.
On the other hand, with WD GP 1Tb there is no problems at all for ages.
    thanks guys, thread is closed

  • Could I use a USB hub to connection both a printer and an external hard drive to the time capsule?

I am planning on purchasing a new router.  The Time Capsule looks amazing.  However, I have Macs and PC's in my how.  So, I need to know if I can connect a printer (for all computers) and external hard drive (for the PC's) by way of a USB hub on the Time Capsule.  I've read that you can do this with the Air-Extreme.

    Couple of comments:
You will need to use a powered USB hub to connect multiple devices to the USB port on the Time Capsule
The hard drive for use with the PCs will not be compatible for use with the Time Capsule if it is currently formatted for Windows NTFS, which it likely may be if you have been using with the PCs.
Same info applies to the AirPort Extreme.
The following hard drive formats would be supported:
    Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    MS DOS FAT32

  • Is it OK to use USB 2.0 connection for Glyph external drive and Mac Pro as project drive?

Is it OK to use a USB 2.0 connection for Glyph external drive and Mac Pro as project drive? I was told by Sweetwater tech support to use Firewire, but both the FW400 and FW800 connections crash my audio interface software mixer (Presonus' "Universal Control" software).
Both Firewire connections also create a 10 second hang for each Command-Save that I do.
USB 2.0 for the external drive seems to be working so far, but is there some reason I should be wary of using this as my go-to project drive? In other words, I am imagining that there was probably some definite reason that the tech support guy mentioned not to use it. But maybe not. It's a brand new Glyph. In any event, it's nice to have the 10 second hang eliminated, and I was just looking for some advice, since digging into the Presonus software issue could take some time.

If you have a mac pro, why not stick the external HDD inside via one of your many SATA cables & have it run 9 times faster than your USB?
Or stick a HDD CADDY in your mac pro, so you can slot in a full sized 3TB HDD for recording, and when you are done, pull it out & slip it in an external enclosure if you need to take it places?

I have a Lacie External hdd and on usb 3. Now If I plug in the device it shows a message to connect to windows or mac (Parallels installed) so If I click on mac it works fine well and good but when I select connect to windows it shows a error.
The error that pops up is:
The device "Lacie Rugged USB3-FW" was unable to connect to its ideal host controller.
Please anyone could suggest what the solution could be?
    Thanks.

But my 1 tb hdd is already formatted via ex fat which can work on both mac and Windows no limitation of file size also like if we use ntfs or fat it has a restriction of 4gb file size.

  • Need help on USB hub for mac air 13 inch (2 external hardisk and Iphone)

Hello everyone, I am a new macbook air user, and currently using 2 external hardisk of 1TB and 2TB. I am looking for usb hub that support both of my external hardisk, ethernet and iphone too. The problem is, limited usb hub for mac air and bad review on balkin product, any advice for me?
One more thing, I just moved from window to mac for the first time, and bought Western Digital 2TB external hardisk, the problem is, I can't save any video/audio file that I downloaded from internet in macbook to be transfer/move to this WD 2TB external hardisk, except for back up and time machine. It refuse to except any file that I try to move in to the external hardisk Can anyone help me? compactibility problem?

First, I have not found any of my hubs to have an issue with my MBA. Just make sure that if any peripherals you attached to the hub are adequately powered. Either by having the hub independently powered, or the devices having their own power supply.
The drive problem you have may be due to the file formatting. If this drive is formatted NTFS, then in many cases you can write to it using a network protocol, but OS X can't write to it if attached directly to the computer, e.g. USB, SATA, FireWire. You will neeed to either format the drive as a HFS+ drive, or use software that enables OS X to write directly to t a NTFS formatted drive, such as NTFS-3G. DISCLAIMER: As the information you provide for your circumstances is limited, this is but one suggestion amongst many, that explain your situation.

  • My macbook freezes whenever I connect external HDD or USB pen.

My macbook freezes everytime I plug my USB pen or my external HDD, however if I reboot it and keep the USB pen/ext HD plugged it will work just fine.
Can you guys help me because it's really frustrating having to turn the computer off everytime I need to copy sth to my USB pen/Ext HDD.
    Many thanks.

    Hi fol10,
If you are having unusual USB behavior, you may want to start by resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and PRAM, as outlined in the following articles
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple-support
OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM
You may also want to see if this behavior happens with every USB port on the Mac, or just a specific one.

  • Airport Extreme + unpowered USB hub + Lacie Porsche drive = FAIL

This is more a warning than a support question: we've recently lost two (TWO!) Lacie Porsche USB2 drives by connecting them to our Airport Extreme (802.11n) via an unpowered USB hub.
The drives themselves are now unusable (their little lights light up but there's no other signs of life).
I suspect it's the fault of the drive rather than the Airport Extreme, and most people connecting HDs via unpowered hubs simply report that they don't work rather than actively up and die, but it's worth knowing that this is a risk. Hope it saves somebody else the heartache.

its commonsense and risky. tx anyway for your experience.

  • USB Hub for Mac book air

I recently got a mac book air. And the problem i have is with the USB port. Since there is only one USB port i tried using a 4-port USB hub. Which is working fine on any other Microsoft laptop. ut wen i tried to use it with my mac air it doesnt seem to be working. The funny thing is my mouse is working fine if i connect it through this hub. but my external hard drives are not registering through the hub, but they work if i direct plug it into the port of the mac air. Please help. As i really need the hub for my mac air.

I have two USB hubs without a separate power supply. One is older (USB 1.1) and will drive an external hard drive, the newer hub (2.0) is more compact and will not support an external hard disk drive. I cannot find any listing of the power properties of the hubs themselves, or other hubs for sale, and so do not know which might work better. I suspect a non-powered hub is not ideal for an external hard disk drive.
My solution is to buy a small bluetooth mouse and forget about using a USB hub for a mouse and instead use the port mostly for a USB flash drive.

  • Can I use a USB hub to connect more than 1 hard drive/flash drive device to the EA4500?

Can I use a USB hub to connect more than 1 hard drive/flash drive device to the EA4500?

That's not possible, it was designed to handle one device at a time.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • Buying a USB hub for the first time

I'm buying a USB hub to connect two printers to a PowerBook G4 and a new MacBook. I've never used a USB hub before, and I'd like to know:
    (1) What I need to watch out for (besides how much room it takes up on my crowded desk, which is a major issue), especially whether USB hubs tend to have less power than actual computer ports,
    (2) Whether there are any issues with universality because of the Intel chip in the MacBook,
    (3) Any particular recommendations? I've been looking at the Belkin 7-port high speed USB and also the Iogear USB 2.0 hub and card reader, but I don't need the card reader and I'm wondering if more is less when you buy a USB hub--i.e., there are more things that can go wrong!
Thanks for any experienced advice out there.

I agree with Ned. Definately get a hub that has its own power supply as it will save you the possible headaches later.
I have used THIS Belkin hub and it works very well and is compact also.
If THIS is the IOGEAR hub/card reader that you are considering - skip it. That is the device that has caused the ONLY kernel panic that I have had in over 2 years of using OS X.
It looks good, but feels rather cheaply made to me and have me KPs to boot. I have a bad overall opinion of that one.

  • When USB hub is connected Sat P30 doesnt boot up

I recently purchased a Toshiba P30, in the USB port I connected an USB 2.0 HUB.
This to connect, printer, scanner, external harddisk etc., etc.
When the USB HUB is pluged in the USB port, the computer will not start up.
I must first disconnect the Hub before I can push the on/off button.
Can somebody help me and tell me what I must do to be able to start the computer
with the USB HUB attached to the notebook.
    Manny thanks
    Jos

    Hello Jos
It is really not easy to say what the problem can be but in my opinion it is definitely because of HUB. You will not believe me but my colleague has Satellite P10 and two USB HUBs are connected to his unit and there is no problem at all. I dont know which one you have but if there is any possibility try to test it with other one.
    Bye

  • How do I get rid of the SPAM Popup Ad for an External HDD

A spam popup ad for an external HDD came down with supposed Lenovo system updates.  This ad pops up every few hours and I can figure out how to get rid of it.  There is a check box that says 'don't show again' but I check it and it doesn't work.  I am extreemly disappointed they have invaded my system with an ad that was part of a system update.  I have 15 thinkpad users and it hasn't happened to all of them yet but they'll be screaming at me when it does.
