TwinGig converter + GLC-LX-SM

Hello everyone
I have one short question As in topic
If this will work? On compatibility matrix (twingig and sfps) I didn't found this GLC-LX-SM
We already got this and We want to use them with 3750-E switches, We have to use single mode
Next week I wil be on site but I want to be sure to order new one (or replace) or this combinantion will work?
Thanks for help
Best regards
Pawel

I can't imagine that it wouldn't - its twin the GLC-LH-SM is listed on the 3750-E data sheet.
I would say the lack of seeing it explicitly on the compatibility matrix is a documentation oversight.

  • 6500 support of TwinGig

                       Did any of the 6500 models ever come out with support of the TwinGig converters? Last time I read about this they did not support it but that was years ago. If it does support it know please reference it. Thanks

    Hello,
    The 6500 don't support Twingig converters.
    The 6500 can not support Twingig converter due to architectural differences.
    Below are the docs for the compatibility matrix:

  • Gigabit interface converter

    I?m using a Cisco Gigabit Interface converter (GLC-LH-SM) in my router 3845. Is that possible to use commmand "speed" in that interface to connect to a fastethernet port? Does it om?nly work at 1 Gbps?

    Hi
    AFAIK it works only at 1Gbps speed.

  • Connecting 2 switches with Fiber

    Hi,
    I have a basic question regarding two 3750G switches I would like to connect using fiber.
    I have the 2 Twingig modules converter available for each switch.
    I need to know my requirement to connect these two switch by their uplink.
    I have already on my list:
    1 SFP module (GLC-SX-MM) the question is how many SFP modules will I need to connect these 2 switches as each switch has 2 Twingig port (hence 4 SFP ports available). since each Twing Gig port has 2 SFP module.should I use 1 Twin Gig module and ordre 2 SFP modules (GLC-SX-MM) for each switch (hence 4 GLC-SX-MM )for the connection to work ?
    Thanks for your guidance and related documentation you'll be giving.

    According to the following Cisco document, the Twingig converter module can be used with up to 2 SFPs; which would seem to indicate the use of 1 SFP in a Twingig converter module is supported.
    <http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750e_3560e/hardware/install/notes/1757202.html>
    You could install 2 SFPs per switch and run EtherChannel to gain additional uplink bandwidth.

    Hi Antony,
    You can cofigure a seperate SVI and configure that SVI with the ip address in same subnet which you will be configuring on the lan interface of your router.
    Once done you can configure any layer 2 port on your 4k switch with that vlan for which you have configure SVI.
    Some thing like this on your on 4k switch
    interface Vlan 7
    description Router
    ip address x.x.x.x x.x.x.x
    interface fa4/20 <====any interface type/num
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan 7
    Connect your fa4/20 to your lan interface of your router and assign an ip address in same subnet which is configured on SVI of vlan 7.
    HTH, if yes please rate the post.

    I have updated the s/w to 12.2(53) SG1 with no luck.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Nicos,
    I have exactly the same issue with LMS 3.2 CiscoView under Windows 2003 and catalyst switch 4506-E.
    4506-E are in IOS 12.2(53)SG2.
    I installed latest 4500IOS V 19.0 ciscoview device package without success.
    Did you fix your problem ?

  • 4900M does it work with X2 and SFP mixed together?

    I would like to build 4900M with the following interfaces.
    11 x 10G X2
    11 x SFP MultiMode.
    Is possible to populate above mix and match for 4900?
    4900M have two slots,
    1st slot -> 8 ports 10G line card
    2nd slot -> 8 ports 10G line card
    Another question is is okay to mix X2 and Cisco TwinGig Converter together at 8-Port (2:1) 10 Gigabit Ethernet (X2) Half Card ?
    Thank you in advance,
    John

    Hi,
    X2 is supported on 4900m switches. Mixing should work as well because the twingig works as a 10G transceiver.

  • 3560E Switches and 10G uplink ports

    Hi!
    Thinking of 3560E switches with 2 X2 10G uplinks, I was wondering if I can use, at the same time, 1 uplink port @ 10G and the other one @ 1G, with the proper CVR-X2-SFP converter and SFP modules.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Martin.

    Believe if you use a TwinGig converter in one of the module slots, you can connect one or two gig SFP links to it while the other module slot is 10 gig.

  • X2 vs sfp , gbic ,sfp+

    Hi all ,
    what is difference between the following optical products . Which product is best .how do i campare advantagous and disadvantagous
    a) X2
    b) SFP with TwinGig Converter Module
    c) SFP/SFP +
    d) GBIC
    does all the above have two variants for single mode and multimode ?
    whats the difference between singe mode and multimode fiber ?
    Thanks

    The differences between X2, sfp, gbic, etc transceivers are typically just physical.  Which type to select relates to what has been designed in by the manufacturer to be used in the equipment platform you have selected for your network (See link to Compatibility Guide below).  Generally speaking, each transceiver style will support the various specifications for link length and fiber type.

    Singlemode fiber has a smaller optical core, enabling longer link lengths using expensive lasers.  Multimode fiber has a larger core, designed for shorter link lengths, but uses lower cost LEDs and Lasers.  The link below is a great resource for getting an understandable overview of fiber optics.

    I agree first try to negotiate the speed and s duplex settings then update follow by the links mentioend below:-

  • Catalyst 4900M and Catalyst 2960S-48FPS-L interconnection

    I have  Catalyst 4900M  as distribution level and several Catalyst 2960S-48FPS-L  as access devices.
    I am going to use "WS-X4908-10GE 8 Port 10 Gigabit Module Switch"
    With CVR-X2-SFP10G converter module I can get 10Gig on optical ports from  Catalyst 4900M side, but  Catalyst 2960S-48FPS-L support only 1 Gig optical standard on their SFP ports. Will it work (optical 10Gig<->1Gig) or any other suggestions?

    You've got an X2 port, don't you?  If you do, then why don't you purchase a TwinGig converter.
    The Cisco TwinGig Converter Module (below) converts a single 10 Gigabit Ethernet X2 interface into two Gigabit Ethernet port slots that can be populated with SFP optics, enabling customers to use Gigabit Ethernet SFPs on the same card in combination with 10 Gigabit Ethernet X2 optics.

  • How can i connect between WS−G5484 1000BASE−SX and GLC-LH-SMD ?

    Dear experts,
    My customer has 6509 A-side and B-side core switches and need to migrate only 6509 B-side to Nexus.
    I have some question below.
    1. Customer's 6509A-side has multiple WS−G5484 1000BASE−SX and WS−G5486 1000BASE−LX links and it is connected to 6509B-side.
    But customer bought only GLC-LH-SMD for Nexus migration of 6509B-side.
    I understood BLC-LH-SMD doesn't support SX type, so I am worndering how i can connect between 2 different module ?
    Or should i have GLC-SX-MMD for WS−G5484 1000BASE−SX links ?
    2. Current Rack has LC type patch pannel from B-side to Rack A side.
    But new Nexus A-side rack is located at different row and between these rack, there is only sc-type patch pannel.
    So If i want to connect from LC-type to Sc-type patch pannel, how can i connect ? do i have to use SC-LC converter ?
    3. Old 6509 links use many MMF cable, and new Nexus use SMF.
    Between same LX/LH links, if a side use MMF and another side use SMF, how can i connect each other ?
    Again new Nexus A-side rack is located at different row and between these rack, there is only sc-type patch pannel.
    Please let me know in detail, Thanks in advance, I really appreciate for your help.
    Jason.

    Hi Leo,

  • Gstreamer and glc

    A friend of mine and I want to play point and click adventure games together... but we are about 500km from each other.
    I thought, ``no problem". One of the two controls the game using glc and sends the game output (screen and audio) to the
    other via netcat.
    For this reason I wanted to feed a gstreamer pipeline with glc output. But I am missing something...
    First of all I tried with mplayer, to see if it was feasible.
    first shell, mplayer reads the stream.
    $ mkfifo mux
    $ mkfifo video
    $ mplayer -identify video
    second shell, glc converts from its internal format.
    $ glc-play mux -t -y 1 -o video
    third shell, glc starts the application and starts the screencast.
    $ glc-capture --disable-audio -s -o mux glxgears
    mplayer shows the glxgear output just fine, so using the mplayer -identify output, I made a minimal gstreamer pipeline...
    $ gst-launch-1.0 -tev filesrc location=video \
    ! videoparse height=300 width=300 framerate=30 \
    ! autovideosink
    But it does not work, the gears appear distorted and after a while disappear altogether...
    I also tried the y4mdec element instead of videoparse, but no can do.
    Do anyone has experience? Am I doing something wrong? Or it is a bug in one of the two programs?
    Thanks

    I stream stuff quite often.
    I'd use FFmpeg for that, which can output to nearly anything.
    I think you can stream through rtp for a very basic link: http://ffmpeg.org/trac/ffmpeg/wiki/Stre … tstreaming
    I personnaly use this command:
    ffmpeg \
    -f x11grab -s 1920x1080 -r 30 -show_region 1 -i :0 \
    -f pulse -ac 2 -ar 44100 -i default \
    -isync \
    -vcodec libx264 -b:v 700k -tune zerolatency -preset fast -pix_fmt yuv420p -threads 4 -fflags nobuffer -s 960x560 \
    -acodec libmp3lame -ab 192k \
    -f flv rtmp://myserver/app/live #<< Change it there, use the protocal you want. You can use "tcp://" or "udp://" here.
    I tried using GLC for the capture, with pipes like that, but it alway crashed after a while, and it eated a lot of CPU... It would be really nice if GLC could output raw videos so another program can take care of it, but I never found. I got the same mess as you. Also, you can't resize the frames, so you will probably end up using a lot of bandwidth too...
    Extra: I use nginx with the rtmp module as a server, and jwplayer as a flash player so my friends can easily play it. The only drawback so far is the latency, it has around 1.5 seconds of latency, which would work nice with a point-n-click anyway.
