Twist s230u will Window 10 be out of the question

When I bought my twist I upgraded too:
- 8 Gig ram
- i7 processor
- Windows 8
However since the product is discontinued will I loose out on a free upgrade to Window 10?
Would love to get some feedback here?

I installed the Windows 10 upgrade via Windows Update today on my ThinkPad Twist s230u. I did run into two problems... The installation failed with an error code of 80240020. This error means that the installation folder hasn't finished downloading or is corrupted. I did a quick google search and found out how to fix the problem. Here are two articles that show how to force Windows Update to redownload the upgrade and start over... Once the update was complete, I noticed that a few icons were missing from my desktop, like Bitdefender. So I downloaded the current version of Bitdefender Internet Security 2015 and installed it. After installation, I rebooted my machine and I could no longer access the Internet via wireless. Did another google search, on another machine, and found an article that explained that I should turn Stealth Mode to Off. Went into Protection -> Firewall -> Adapters and set Stealth Mode to Off. Low and behold, the Internet started working again. So far I haven't run into any other problems. I'll post again if I see any other issues. -Myles

I want to upgrade the 500gb HDD to an SSD on an Thinkpad Twist S230u with windows 8 but don't want to lose the data and programs installed on the drive and have to start over. I tried to clone it but no software could do it. I tried acronis and EasyToDo. I was able to clone it with a duplicator but it wasn't bootable. Am I to assume that what I need to do is the following - 1- Create the recovery media on a 32gb usb stick. 2- back up the drive using Acronis (or other) 3- Physically replace the drive 4- boot to the USB Recovery Media and bring the system back to it's original state out of the box but with the SSD Drive. 5- Use Acronis (or other) to restore back up made of the 500gb prior to removal. Before you start cloning your HDD with acronis, you have to prepare the SSD:
at first: connect your SSD with USB to your notebook and
1. Start CMD.EXE as Admin
2. type: "diskpart"
3. type: "select disk x " x = Letter of your SSD
4. type: "list partition" the drive should be unformatted
5. type: "create partition primary align=1024"
6. type: "active"
7. type: "format fs=ntfs" --> wait some minutes
8. type: "assign letter=x" --> For example "x"
9. type: "exit"
Start acronis true image 2013 (trial version)
select "Backup" without empty sectors
you can select any partitions, so also the the invisible lenovo backup paritions
The Backup can be "Restore"-d to the SSD, incl. GPT (MBR like in UEFI Systems)
After all, the SSD is ready to use. Booting on USB gives here a blue screen. I tought it was my fault. It isnt. You can build in the SSD into your SATA Port and Windows 8 will boot very well.

Any idea when we will see units new out of the box without a scratch? I was out at Apple to pick up my iPhone 5 in black on Oct 12th. I opened the box in front of an Apple technician and there was a scratch on the edge. So I told her I didn't want a scratched iPhone. So she returned and brought out another phone. Well, she couldn't get it to a accept the new iPhone because there's a 24hr waiting period when you make a return. This is Verizon's policy, but of course we didn't find out until 2.5hrs later.
So she says you'll have to return but we will hold this phone for you. I was disappointed after being there for a total of 3.5hrs and no iPhone. I returned on Saturday hoping the next iPhone didn't have a scratch. I opened the box and there was a scratch! I live 40 minutes from these store, so it's not close.
I have an iPhone 4 that's in excellent condition! I don't want a new iPhone 5 with a scratch, unless its a scratch caused by me.

We're users here. Why would you ask a question here that no one can answer? Are you impaired in some way intellectually?

I've had a look at the mavericks spec and it looks like I can't upgrade directly to that. Any one know what I can upgrade to - if anything? My mac has 3.5GB and is running OSX 10.5.8. Thanks for your help.

Yes. Mavericks is out of the questions seeing as how anything beyond 10.6.8 requires an Intel processor which your G5 Mac doesn't have.

I have erased all the hard drive for some reason and I don't have anymore the windows version of my laptop,the question is below!

I like to know if somebody has a laptop with windows 8.1 installed and has a recovery partition in the case of reinstalling windows 8.1. somebody has erased all harddisk with low level format for some reason.
now this man has no more 8.1 to reinstall it. I have my self the dvd of this version of windows 8.1 or suppose the trial version ,
if I install the windows from my dvd (or the trial version )and activate it with his product key which is on his laptop voor his 8.1 version.
is this action illegal or not ? if this action is illegal i like to know why?

If a proper license is held for the product, MS do say that you can use any legitimately-acquired media to re-install.
If the computer originally shipped with a manufacturer-supplied copy of Windows (OEM), then only the media from the OEM should be used. This might require him to purchase a set of recovery discs or USB from the OEM.
It may be possible to retrieve/download a copy of Windows 8.0 or 8.1 from the MS website, with only a product key, but, it is common for modern computers sold now, that there is no visible product key (instead, the key is stored in firmware)

Just wondering if anyone new if and or why windows 8 on the twist does not come with hyper v. Does the twist not support it?

You need Windows 8 Pro 64 bit to get Hyper-V.

Twist S230u with Windows 8 continues to have innumerable problems

First - let me tell all the readers that Lenovo Twistpad with Windows 8 is a marriage gone seriously wrong. The usability of this laptop/notebook is so bad that it horribly affects my productivity. The touch is almost useless and many many other issues.
However, the issue at hand that need to solve urgently are two
1) The search panel slides right in when I am typing regularly and the search field grabs the focus obstructing my work. This happens only on certain keystrokes. Praticularly with keys like 'i' 'o' '9' , '0' etc. I am not able to figure out why this happens and how to stop it. I have restarted my computer several time but could not help it.
Please help me with this issue. It is so serious that cannot even type a url in the browser url bar in a simple manner, I have to hit escape multiple times or manullay bring the cursor using the mouse after every few letters I type.
2) Many a time, the screen shows the caps lock on or off icon depending on it's state. It doesn't disappear then until I restart my computer. It obstructs normal reading.
Gosh.. I am sick and tired of this computer. Please help.

If I configure a buffered pattern input and a buffered pattern output on the 6534 to both operate from the internal clock, will data be transferred out on the same rising edge as data is transfered in or are there two separate oscillators?

Basically, I want to perform a buffered pattern output synchronously with a buffered pattern input. If I configure the two groups to be internally timed from the same frequency, will the data in be transferred on the same edge as the data out or will the two groups use different oscillators?

Hi Joseph,
There are two clocking structures on the 653x boards, one for each group. This means, even if you specify the exact same frequency for both there is no guarantees that they will be synchronized exactly.
The workaround for synchronizing both groups is to have 1 group clocked internally and 1 group to be clocked externally. Then route the Req line from the internally clocked group to the Req line of the externally clocked group.

Will Windows 64bit OS Runj On The Atom?

I see files listed in the files update section for the NB205-N311/W that are for Windows 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows. Does that mean that the 64bit versions of XP, Vista, and Windows 7 will install on the NB205-N311/W?

I know Toshiba US is listing 64bit drivers in their download section, but the ATOM CPU is a 32bit processor it can not run the 64bit OS. Now with or NB200/NB205s we do get Hyper-threading : )

Will Windows 7 via Bootcamp decrease the battery life or speed when running OSX?

I know that when Windows 7 is running my battery life will decrease dramatically, but I am curious is I need to worry about battery life when running OSX, or even the speed of my notebook.

No need to worry, Bootcamp is a separate bootable partition and OS X isn't even running, the two operating systems have nothing to do with each other.
Now if you run Windows in OS X using virtual machine software, it's very much possible the extra CPU load could shorten the battery life as your running two operating systems at once and virtual machine software in addition to other software running.
However it's much safer, easier and more convenient than the hassles of Bootcamp and handling malware infections there, as OS X is always in control of the hardware.

When will firefox be coming out with the complete 5.0 version that is compatible with McAfee site advisor? As I understand it is beta now.

McAfee told me the current 5.0 version is a beta version, which is why Site advisor will not work with it. They also told me they are not updating site advisor anytime soon. So when will Firefox be updated to a complete and compatible version?

Due to security vulnerabilities, rolling back to Firefox 4.0.1 is not recommended. Firefox 3.6.18 would be the safer choice.
Here's the process to roll back:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
Close Firefox 5.
You could install Firefox 3.6 over it (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.

A few days ago, my computer crashed, and being the Deadmau5 fan that I am, I can't survive without my concert DVDs. So I deleted all my photography apps (using the iPhone, of course) to make room for a concert movie. I didn't delete any music because by the time I deleted a few apps I had enough room. Before buying the film that was 3.6 gb, i had 5.5gb free. So I bought the film, and the phone automatically and by itself deleted 5 gigs of music that was ripped from CDs that no longer play. Need that music for my job (i know it sounds weird but trust me). Please help me I'm on my knees

If you lost your device a month ago, did you have Find My iPhone active on it before it was lost? If so, then you needed to log into www.icloud.com with your information and try to locate the device. I'm not sure about where you are receiving these emails from, but can you see the device in iCloud? If you are using another device, did you cancel the service on your other device? If so, that could be part of the problem of why you are having difficulty locating yours. To locate the device, it has to be powered on, it has to have Find My iPhone activated before it was lost/stolen, and it has to have an active internet connection. If any of that is interrupted, then it will not work.
Apple does not locate devices, so there really isn't any customer service for Find My iPhone. Not sure what you are asking about that. The Find My iPhone app on the girlfriend's phone is just another avenue for you to get into your iCloud account to try and locate the device. If it does not show up in Find My iPhone, then the device either did not have Find My iPhone active before you lost it, it is powered off, or, in case you did not have a passcode on the device, it has been erased.

AEBS + Hard drive out of the question?

Does the release of Time Capsule mean that in order for leopard users who use a macbook pro, macbook, or now macbook air, will have to buy Time Capsule in order to use Time Machine wirelessly? Or will Apple update the software to allow those who were duped into buying leopard thinking they would be able to use TM without being tethered to the hard drive by a cable? TM was one of the main reasons I bought leopard, and now in order to use it, I'll need to invest another $300+? I dont think so.

There are hacks you can try online. But then again, the safety of them is unknown. It has been rumored that 10.5.2 will fix this problem but some of the newest seeds don't show wireless backup via Time Machine as a feature. However, it's also a mystery of how Time Capsule will work without a modification to Time Machine to back up wirelessly.
