Twist WWAN Upgrade - add GPS capability??

I've confirmed with technical support that the S230u twist can include a WWAN.
(Available-- But I can not find this WWAN option while configuring/ordering your unit build.)
I've tracked down the part number from tech support... 04W3786.
I've read the forum thread on upgrading the WWAN on Thinkpad,  but support told me I would have to send my unit to Lenovo for the upgrade.
Is this a user serviceable part?
Will this WWAN upgrade my Twist unit to include GPS capabilities,  as referenced on this page?
http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/thinkpad/
Thanks for any information..    Support transfers me to "Sales"   and then sales transfers me back to "Tech support" and I'm already feeling frustration over a fairly simple question.

Hi, westmichigan
According to this page for the Twist, the WWAN card can be replaced by a user. As for this adding GPS capabilities, I think that this would help and make it GPS-capable, but I cannot say for sure. The card can be replaced by as user, however, using the steps here in the Hardware Maintenance Manual (pg. 63)
Hope it helps,
Adam

    Hi,
You can order the module but make sure the motherboard is WWAN capable (has the slot for it). The antennas should be already there.

  • Apple: Please add GPS and non-Nike workout apps to Nano

    Apple,
I've bought three earlier incarnations of the Nano, but stopped upgrading after the 4th gen, when the product lost versatility. Among other things, please consider adding GPS capability and the ability to load non-Nike workout apps such as Runkeeper and Edomondo to the Nano. 64 GB would be nice too.
    Thanks.

To do what you want the Nano would be the size of an ...iPod Touch. Maybe in 3 to 4 years they could get a functional one down to that size.
The 6th Generation Nano added a much smaller form factor, a touch screen and a clip. The 7th Generation added Bluetooth (a welcome addition for me), added back video and still has built in Nike +.
The iPod Touch is lighter and a bit smaller than the iPhone, you might give it a look. There would be no way to squeeze the features you want into the Nano form factor due to the size of battery you would need.
But you can tell Apple what you are dreaming of: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodnano.html

  • I have an Ipad2 with Wi-Fi, is there anyway to add 3G capability to my Ipad2?

I have an Ipad2 with Wi-FI is there any way to upgrade the system to add 3G capability?

Sorry, no it is not possible. The iPad 2 does not have cellular chip or even a sim slot.
You probably wouldn't loose much to sell your WiFi model and get a 3G model.

  • Is it possible to upgrade/add a graphics card to a Pavilion dv7-7000 laptop?

I've been doing a lot of research lately, to mostly no avail, about whether or not my HP Pavilion dv7-7025dx laptop can have a dedicated GPU added to it, as currently it only has the integrated Intel HD 4000 Mobile graphics card.
Mostly I've come across the unfortunate agreement that most laptops cannot have their graphics cards upgraded/swapped out, since the graphics card is soldered on to the motherboard. However, after talking to an HP "support representative", they said they believed it was possible to add a graphics card, as long as it is compatible with the HM77 45W UMA Motherboard my computer has.
Furthermore, after finding the maitenence and service manual online for my computer ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf ) it says that it could have come with switchable graphics, specifically the Nvidia Geforce 630M or 650M.
So I am wondering, is it really at all possible to add a dedicated graphics card, either by having switchable graphics or something else? Or am I stuck with the integrated Intel HD graphics?
If I can upgrade/add a new card, where would I be able to find/buy a compatible one, and would I be able to install it myself or would I need to go to a local computer repair?

    Hi,
You can't add a dedicated graphics card to the system like this. The vga is soldered to the board so no way you can just plug it in like on a desktop. However, you can buy a new motherboard with the dedicated graphics card on it. It also requires a new heat sink.
    Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf
You need a 682040-001 board plus 682061-001 heat sink to have a dedicated graphics card on your laptop. Have a look on ebay for the part numbers.

    You're very welcome.
I am not a PC repair tech by trade or training.
Other than the replacement motherboard, and fan and heatsink combination, I wouldn't know if any other parts are required.
The parts you need are listed in chapter 3 of the service manual with the part numbers.
I also don't know if the boards come with the windows 8 product key included in the BIOS.
There may be multiple motherboards listed, so make sure you get the right one.
Same for the fan and heatsink.

  • Aperture cannot add GPS data to multiple images at the same time

I am new to Aperture and have been using it for a week or so now. Today I tried to add GPS data to a number of images and found out, it appears Aperture can only add GPS data to one image at the time. When I select multiple images to add the GPS data to, it just doesn't do anything. It leaves the GPS data blank.
    Here is what I do:
From the Info-tab I select "GPS" from the drop down menu
At the bottom of the info tab I show the map
In the map's search box I enter the location I want to assign to the photo(s)
From the resulting drop down menu I select the locatiion I want and press the "assign to location" button
As long as I choose only a single image, this works fine and the GPS Data is added. Not so when I select more than a single image. After pressing the "assign to location" button it seems as if the GPS data is added (there is no message indicating otherwise), but the GPS data in the selected images is blank.
What am I doing wrong ?
    Additional info
I have been testing this a bit more and the behavior is even more strange: When you select multiple images in Aperture, they get a thin white border, except the one that you touch last (normally the last image of the selection) that will have a thicker border around it. It appears that, when selecting multiple images, the GPS data is ONLY assigned to the photo in the selected setthat has the thicker border (?????)

Rereading your post, I think the problem is, that you are assigning the location from the Info panel and not from the Metadata menu. The Info panel and the Metadata menu ar behaving differently.
The Info panel will always only affect the primary selection, but the Metadata menu will work on all selected images (unless "Primary only" is checked). So , if you want to assign your location to multiple images, use "Metadata > Assign location" instead of the little map in the "Info" panel.
Or use the "Places" view. Then you can drag all images at once to the same pin on the map.

  • How to add GPS to an ipad2 with only wifi

How to add GPS to wifi only iPad

    From another discussion https://discussions.apple.com/message/20077221#20077221
"Location services depend on a database of Wi-Fi access points with known geographical positions. If the device is not within range of at least one of those access points, it can't be located." - Linc Davis
So if your iPad is near a WiFi access point with a known geographical position, you already have reasonable GPS-based location knowledge on your iPad.

  • Add gps information

I know the all new Photos is not a Pro app like Aperture. But in Aperture it was possible to add gps information to photos quite easily. I was able to track my GPS with an App on the iPhone, export the data to an gpsx file, import that to Aperture and then drag the first photo to the route and all other photos where placed accordingly to the time they where made on the route.
Is there anything similar possible with the new photos? Do I need to use another app for this in the future?

    No.
    Yes.

  • Is there a way to add GPS location after importing to Photos?

I would like to add GPS location data to photos I take with my DLSR.  In the past I was able to copy location data from a photo taken on my iPhone I take and copy it to all my DLSR photos.
Can this be done in Photos?

I actually bought Greenfinder and vCaddy (Golf GPS apps both in app store) and did extensive testing yesterday. You can see my full review here.
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=6056655&postcount=20
Bottom line - Could be a great alternative to a SkyCaddy or similar device

  • Gen I AT&T and wifi gps capable?

Is the gen 1 iPad with AT&T cell and wifi gps capable when out of cell range, as off shor fishing? (85 miles)

Yes, for the iPads with built-in GPS (i.e the cellular models) you don't need to be online to be able to use the GPS function. If you want to use a mapping app then you will need one which has the maps built-in to the app.

  • Add gps information to photo using Photos

With the latest Photos App, I didn't find a way to manually add GPS information to a Photo.  I am talking about Photos APP on OS X Yosemite.  Not iPhoto.

Sorry, but the Photos.app does not (yet) support this feature.
Use iPhoto, or any other app that you have. I make sure, that all photos have GPS tags before I import them to Photos.
Send feedback to Apple with a feature request.   Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback
For the time being, use iPhoto for the geotagging and import the tagged photos to Photos.
If you are comfortable with the Terminal use the free exiftool:

How can I add gps information into my pictures?
I understand Photos doens't have this feature.
Só how could I do it with an external application. Is it possible? Can I even use iPhoto with the same library (since they share stuff) to do it?

Photos does not support to add location information yet.
Add the GPS before you import the photos to Photos. I hope this will change with the next release.
You could ,for example, first import to iPhoto, add the locations, batch change the titles and captions, do all the things that are not yet supported in the new Photos, then export the photos from iPhoto and import them to Photos.
Or use the free exiftool, if you like the Terminal.
