'twitter' in film on television monitor
Dear All,
I'm getting close to completing a film made with stills and voice-over. The stills are black-and-white 35mm images, imported into FCE 2 as TIFFs. I exported to QuickTime as DV-PAL and burnt a disc using iDVD. When I showed the film on my domestic television, it had a nasty case of 'twitter'. I asked an editor friend for advice and he told me to try deinterlacing the images. I did this in FCE using the 'deinterlace' command under Video>Filters. Is this insufficient? Should I deinterlace all the images in Photoshop and re-import?
Your expert advice eagerly sought ...
Thanks in advance,
Roger
Dear Michel,
A long time since my last post, and I don't know if you'll be reading this - but I've managed to solve the problem; I'm sure that your advice helped. So I'm marking this as solved for now. But mainly wanted to thank you for helping. Merci!

What kind of cord do I buy to hook up my MacPro to my television monitor? And where does it plug in?
Thanks, Matt. I have a laptop, so it looks like I need a mini-DP to HDMI adaptor that supports sound and a plain HDMI cable. Do I have that right???

P.S. You're corresponding w an idiot writer here who only uses word processing, but it is SOOO much easier to do the few things I need to do on the Internet w my MAC. Editing using a firewire external hard drive and a NTSC television monitor
I have Final Cut Express 2 and use it with a firewire external hard drive and a NTSC television monitor.
I have started to use iMovie with this same set up. I save my iMovie projects to an external hard drive and also have my miniDV deck connected via firewire with the composite outputs going into a 27 inch television so that I can get a better idea of what my colors and title safe framing, etc. look like.
I have had some minor problems with this set up. Like stuttering video, audio tracks playing back when thay are "unchecked" and the "unexpectedly quit" deal.
Thanks in advance!!!
FrankiM uses a lot of harddrive space on the "start up"/internal disk, even when the project itself is located on some external drive.. make sure, you have at last 10 - 15GB free...

Shadowy jerky effect on slo-mo shots when played back on television monitor
Has anybody else noticed this problem?
When playing back a movie edited in imovie 4 on a DVD-R through a television monitor all the slo-mo shots have a shadowy jerky effect on them. They don't play smoothly as they do when the same DVD-R is played back on my computer monitor.
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated. It ruins the whole effect of the slo-mo.
Emac 1.25GHz PowerPC G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)Did iMovie prompt you to render the project when sending to iDVD. Slo-mo needs the deinterlacing that process does -- otherwise the output is jerky on a TV.
See also a related iMovie 4-6 bug you should be aware of:

And besides, you get better quality slo-mo with 3rd party apps:

DVI- HDMI discoloration on HDTV (as second monitor)
Hello all.
I have been having some issues when using my Philips CRT 30" 1080i HDTV as a second monitor via a DVI->HDMI cable. There seems to be a discoloration that occurs (my best guess being a "green" discoloration) that occurs in the top left corner of the screen. It is made all the more apparent when you then unplug, and a purple haze is left in the corner of the "blue" video input channel. (i imagine the green discoloration on the blue channel yields purple).
From what I can tell, this problem does not occur on any other video input (say, a Wii on the composite channel, or an XBOX on the component, etc).
I had heard rumblings that it could be, in order of bad to worst: a bad HDMI cable, a bad HDMI input on the television, or the television going bad period.
Wanted to know if any of you have had or heard of similar experiences. Need to decide soon if I'm going to had to just buy a new HDMI cable, or if I need to buy a new television/monitor for a job coming up.
Thanks in advance!
Brian

The set itself has a demagnetizer, but sometimes the magnetism is too strong for the built-in demagnetizer to overcome. Dual 17'' Displays and an NTSC Monitor for Video Editing
I am trying to hook up two 17'' apple monitors and an NTSC television monitor for video editing, but all I have on the back of my G5 tower is one ADC plug and one DVI plug. Any advice on how to make this work would be greatly appreciated.
If you run in anything other than the LCD's native resolution your graphics card will be resampling the image. This inevitably distorts the image as pixels must be discarded to create the display. Typically this softens the image.
Cheers,
Neale

External monitor - no sound needed, just picture
I am a composer. I want to take a quicktime file and send the output onto an external television monitor. I do not need sound, just picture. I'm running two monitors already for my desktop, a 23" and a 19". Is there any inexpensive method to get that done?
I'm assuming the outputs on you graphics card are used. If size doesn't matter, you can try a USB monitor. It is the cheapest way without adding another card.

Monitoring Question for 16:9 format
I have it set up right now so that i go from the computer to my canon XL1 through a firewire cable and then out to a tv via RCA. I was wondering if there is a way that i can get the 16:9 look on the monitor. It seems that when it goes back into the XL1 it squishes it again. Is there a way around this. Also I don't want to use my XL1 as a permanent monitoring device is there something cheaper than a miniDV VCR that i could get to use for monitoring. thanks.
right off the kenstone site.
"Why Does Anamorphic Video looked Squished on my NTSC Monitor?
It's supposed to look like that! Although it seems like it shouldn't, think about what is really going on with the frame. While monitoring NTSC video output from Final Cut Pro, we are viewing only what is coming out of Firewire. Recall that the 16:9 anamorphic effect was created when a widescreen 16:9 frame was forced into the same space as normal frame. This information shows up in the monitor with a horizontally squeezed distortion because that is exactly what was recorded on the original 720 x 480 frame,
A 16:9 Letterbox image as viewed on a Pro Monitor or in many Camcorder's Viewfinders
OR what it will look like on a Consumer TV after you distort and render
your entire Nested Sequence to adjust for the offset
Can I view Anamorphic Video in 16:9 on my NTSC Monitor?
Typically, it is not possible to view Anamorphic Video on a standard NTSC Television monitor. However, with more expensive, professional NTSC monitors (and in the future, with Consumer Widescreen Television sets, which are now available in Japan) there is a 16:9 feature that will resize the Anamorphic frame on the fly, lending it the proper dimensions of the widescreen format. For Example, with my Sony PVM-20M2U, I have such a button so I can see my 16:9 footage as I edit. If you deal with a lot of 16:9 footage, it might be advisable to purchase such a monitor."

Creating Graphics destined for Web & Television
I am having issues with creating graphics for a video destined for both web and tv.
Because I am going to DVD, the video needs to be interlaced (I will get best quality on my interlaced video assets). I created interlaced graphics and everything is great. Now, in order to deliver this video to the web, I must de-interlace the video. The problem with de-interlacing is that the video looks fine, but the graphics get ugly stairstepping on them.
What is the best way to get smooth clean graphics when the video is destined for both web and television? The biggest issue is that I must create the video as interlaced because I am working with multiple interlaced source materials. The video is then going to DVD as well as web. It makes sense for me to have the final video be interlaced so I can preserve the full quality of my source materials and get smooth movement on a television monitor.
How do I then deliver this video to the web with clean graphics? I must deinterlace for the web and I am losing half the resolution of my video. The deinterlacing makes my graphics stairsteppy and ugly.
Anybody have a suggestion? -
Freeze frame and video monitor
i played the timeline sequence and watched on a video monitor where some freeze frame pictures made from clips (moving images) vibrate. is there method to change ways in which i make freeze frame so that it does not vibrate/shake when viewed through a television monitor?
Hey
Your going to want to add the filter called de-interlace. Click on the freeze frame in your timeline then got to effects, video filters, video, then de-interlace. That should do it -
Coffee on monitor, can it damage it?
Hi, I was drinking coffee today when I accidentally coughed and sprayed coffee all over the front of the monitor as well as the stand. I cleaned it down with some water and dried it with a cloth. But do you think that I did some sort of damage to the monitor?
Thanks for the response. Everything seems to be working fine. When the monitors off I do notice a slight film over the monitor. I'm not sure if it was there before the coffee got on the monitor, if it was I never noticed it. What would be the best liquid for cleaning my monitor? I put some water on one of my t-shirts and basically cleaned it down that way. Would water be the best way to remove the film or is something else recommended? I made some progress but I still notice it a bit. What do you guys use to clean down your display? Any info is greatly appreciated
