Two 23" displayed hooked on same G5 give different colours

I have just bought a new G5 and hooked my 23" HD Cinema display to it. I used to use it with my Powerbook, and I missed the spanning feature, so I decided to get a second one which was delivered and installed yesterday.
Immediately I noticed a difference in the colors of the two units. The older display has a whitewashed look on all colors as if the contrast is set too low.
The colorsync utility reports that the factory setting for each monitor is different. 42482EC.icc for the new one and 424832D.icc for the old one.
Does this mean that I have to live with the color difference or is it possible that the older monitor has a damaged backlight? I have two months left under guarantee for it so hopefully I will be able to get this repaired (replaced) for free.
Any ideas or suggestions?

You need to calibrate your displays. If you really want them to match, you will need to use a colorimeter with a software bundle that includes dual display matching. It's really tough to do "by eye" but you can probably get "reasonably close" by using OSX's "expert mode" calibration tool. It is completely unrealistic (unless you are Irish) to expect two displays to match "out of the box" even if they are "identical" units.

  • Two AM's with the same name but different forms causes Deployment problems

    Two Masters forms, DOC & PM are cloned except for the "where clause" in the View's query and the titles in their JSP's.
    DOC workspace has a BC project and a BC4JSP Project. The BC project comprises of the EO and VO named ComVsStaticValue. In the Edit prop-> query for the VO I have specified the "where clause" as VSSV_VS_CODE='DOCTOR'.
    In Java Webserver :-
    The JSP's are located in C:\source\Doctor\ .. and the *.xml and *.class files generated by the BC proj is in C:\source\Doctor\pol_ValueSet\..
    If I execute Doctor in JWS the records are getting filtered properly.
    PM workspace has a BC project and a BC4JSP Project. Again The BC project comprises of the EO and VO named ComVsStaticValue. In the Edit prop-> query for the VO I have specified the "where clause" as VSSV_VS_CODE='PAY_MODE'.
    In Java Webserver :-
    The JSP's are located in C:\source\PMode\ .. and the *.xml and *.class files generated by the BC proj is in C:\source\PMode\pol_ValueSet\..
    If I execute PM in JWS, the PM's JSP comes (the title is correct) but the records pertaining to DOC appears. I checked the View's xml file in C:\source\PMode\pol_ValueSet\ the "where clause" is correct. The xml & classes have the same name but their contents are different.
    I want to know whether this problem is because both have the same name for the AM and the BC4JSP's property file.
    Please clarify.

    Deploying two app modules with the same name will definitely cause problems.
    The JSPs use the information in the properties file to connect to the application module and get the data they need from the appropriate View Objects in those app modules. If you have two app modules with the same name, when a JSP tries to connect, it has no way of knowing which one of the app modules to connect to if they both have the same name.
    You could:
    1. Just use one application module that contains all the View Objects you need to access.
    or
    2. Rename one of the application modules or the package it is located in so the names are distinct. If you choose this method, you will also need to update the JSPs (specifically the 'registerApplicationFrompPopertyFile' method call), and your JSP project's appmodule property file.

  • Two CAS Servers on the same domain but different AD Sites

    I have a customer that has 1 EXCH MB server & 1 EXCH server running the Hub Transport and Client Access roles. These two servers are in the same domain and reside in AD site A. Now he wants AD Site B (also in the same domain) to have 1 EXCH MB server
    & 1 EXCH server running the HUB/CAS role. The problem is the CAS role in site A is the only one that is public interfacing. The CAS server in site B has not certificates at all, and I want all the mail to re-route to the CAS server in Site A. Does anyone
    know how I can do that???

    The CAS in the internet facing site will proxy to the CAS in the non-internet facing site. And you do have a cert on that CAS in Site B. The default built-in one. However, if you have clients in Site B, you should replace that built-in cert with one that
    is trusted by clients such as Outlook and Lync etc...It doesnt have to be a 3rd party cert, it could be on that is trusted internally.

  • What is the best way to use two external displays at the same time?

    One of my displays has HDMI, DVI, and VGA inputs. The other has VGA and DVI inputs.
    MBP, early 2011
    Mac OS X 10.6.7
    2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

    Kappy is dead on correct about Bridge Mode as a requirement for the Time Capsule.
    Do you know how to check to see if the Time Capsule is configured this way?
    Next question.....you really should not try to have two wireless networks....one Arris and another Time Capsule.....unless it is absolutely necessary. Two wireless routers in close proximity can create wireless interference effects that can cause problems with either...or both...networks.
    Best to turn off the wireless on one router to keep the chances of wireless interference between routers minimized.
    Are both the Arris and Time Capsule providing wireless signals?

  • Two hard drives with exact same files showing different sizes

    I have two WD external drives, one which I'm trying to dedicate solely to Time Machine backups.  In transferring data from the one I intend to use for that purpose to the other, I'm finding that all the files transferred but that the folders register as having different sizes (e.g. one video folder has the same number in each, but on the original disk it was 4.43 GB in total and is only 4.26 GB on the new disk).
    I've read that there could be hidden system files that didn't move, but if that's the case does it matter?  Both drives are the same model but are differently formatted.
    Thanks

    but are differently formatted.
    That could be the cause. Files are not written to a disk in bytes, they are written in blocks that are a minimum size. For instance, if the minimum block size is 1KB, the a 5 byte file will occupy 1KB on the disk. So, depending on the block size of the drive format, you may get different results.

  • Same code gives different results in Matlab Script in Labview and Matlab

    I am implemeting a Matlab code into a LabVIEW application using Matlab script. When I import the exactly same code to the Matlab Script in LabVIEW it gives a different result than it is in Matlab. This code is a simulation code including first kind bessel functions. Using LabVIEW 7.1 and Matlab R14 service pack 3.

    Labview 8.5
    Matlab R2009b
    Attached are the graphs produced by matlab script in labview and in matlab.
    The minimum of graph produced by matlab code is below 1 and that in labview is above 1.
    Thanks a lot for your reply.
    Sorry, I haven't quantified the "sometimes" yet.

  • Same lens gives different data

    In LR3 I see the same Nikon Lens twice once as 18,0-70,0mm and 18.0-70.0. Only the last one is automatically recognised.
    How did this happen and what to do about it?
    Nikon AF-S DX Zoom -Nikkor 18.0-70.0 f/3.5-4.5

    OK, I found it myself.
    the lens with the comma is a JPG and lens profile cannot be applied.
    Even in Custom, Nikon this lens is not present, though other lenses are.
    Is this normal behaviour ?

  • Problem with two thunderbolt display's daisychained

    hey,
    i'm having problems with my mac setup. i've got two thunderbolt displays, hooked to a 15" mbp retina laptop.
    i've got my iphone hooked to one of the usb ports of the display then i've got a keyboard, a superdrive and a charger for my magic mouse hooked to the displays as well as a firewire hd. two usb 3 hard drives are hooked directly to the mbp.
    i also changed the audio midi setup to let the audio pla through both of the displays to get a better sound. the mbp is closed so only those two displays get a video signal.
    i have issues when data is transfered along the lines. f.eg my keyboard doesn't work from time to time, my iphone wont be recognized when connected to the dock. not really sure what the problems is a the transfercapacity shouldn't be to it's limit.
    could it be a energy problem? that the displays don't get enough power, my power strip has a voltag controller in it, might that be a problem?
    greets.

    I think Apple should extend the warranty if they have a known manufacturing issue.  I won't be investing another $1000 on a display from Apple ever again.  I can't afford it.  I can by an LG, Viewsonic, Dell, or "fill in the blank" for a fraction of the cost.
    I expect a $1000 display to last me more than 20 months.

  • Macbook Pro - Two extra displays? Help!

    I currently have a 17" 4:3 Dell monitor connected to my MBP at my desk.
    I would also like to connect a 32" 16:9 TV as well, without having to change connections every time I switch.
    I thought about getting a DVI splitter, but I feel like there would be problems. I don't mind that the two extra displays show the same thing, but I assume the MBP would only read the output as one extra monitor, therefore would only have one resolution setting for both the extra monitor AND tv. Being two completely different sizes and aspect ratios, I feel like that would cause ugliness.
    Is there a better way around this, or am I going to be stuck with this idea?

    Big ouch to my wallet, looks like I'll be taking the 5 seconds out of my day to switch cables. Thanks for the help

  • Creating same-name directories, different cases

    I'm trying to set up two directories with basically the same name but different cases:
    domain.com/DirectoryName
    domain.com/directoryname
    Just because I know someone will type it in the second way assuming it will work, since the typical user does not know urls can be case-sensitive. The first directory will just redirect to the second.
    My problem is that Dreamweaver won't allow me to create the two directories because it considers them to be the same (and is giving me the "folder already exists" error), regardless of the cases. Does anyone know how to work around this?

    I don't follow. Physical directories never can have the same name inside the same parent directory on Windows or Mac, so it's nothing related to DW. They can on Unix systems, but that's a whole different matter and in your case an exclusive one of the server configuration. This needs to be done with aliases, symbolic links, resource mapping or URI forwarding on the server, not on how you design your webpage locally. A browser URL is just a virtual directory/ path and not immediately related to the actual physical structure and because of that, it's the server's responsibility to either convert the characters or not.

    Is the MBP properly grounded?  Are you using the three prong plug?  If not, do so and your problems may disappear.  If not, do what SwankPeRFection suggests.

  • Grid Layout - Getting two or more fields to display on the same line/row.

    I am using version 4.2.
    I have a form with a number of items.
    I wish to control the display of the items so that some fields are beside each other (on the same line or row).
    I have set the grid layout as follows:
    :PX_ITEM1
    Start New Row: Yes
    Column: Automatic
    Column Span: Automatic
    :PX_ITEM2
    Start New Row: No
    Column: Automatic
    New Column: Yes
    Column Span: Automatic
    When I do this the items are not displayed on the same row.
    I can see when you change the "Start New Row" from No to Yes, the item fields ARE moved into the same <Div> that controls the row, but they just aren't displaying how I would like them.
    Has anyone got this working?
    Amanda.

    Hi Amanda,
    I believe I have discovered the cause of the issue you are facing.
    The problem is with the "Alert Region" region template and that it does not have any display points specified so indicate the number of grids that can fit in its region body. Without having any display points, the grid layout system attempts to use all columns available to its container. However, because the Alert Region has additional padding within, the columns will not fit and wrap to the next line.
    To fix this issue, you will have to modify the "Alert Region" region template, go to "Display Points" and click Add Row. You will need to enter the following fields:
    Name: Region Body
    Template Substitution: BODY
    Grid Support: Checked
    Maximum Fixed Grid Columns: -1
    This will fix the issue for you. I've logged a bug within our bug system to track this so we can fix it in a future release of APEX.
    Best,

    Can I have two methods with same name but different return type in Java? I used to do this in C++ (method overloading or function overloading)
    Here is my code:
    import java.io.*;
    public class Test{
    public static void main(String ar[]){
    try{
    //I give an invalid file name to throw IO error.
    File file = new File("c:/invalid file name becasue of spaces");
    FileWriter writer = new FileWriter(file ,true);
    writer.write("Test");
    writer.close();
    } catch (IOException IOe){
         System.out.println("Failure");
    //call first method - displays stack trace on screen
         showerr(NPe);
    //call second method - returns stack trace as string
            String msg = showerr(NPe);
            System.out.println(msg);
    } // end of main
    public static void showerr(Exception e){
         StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();
         PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(sw);
         e.printStackTrace(pw);
         try{
         pw.close();
         sw.close();
         catch (IOException IOe){
         IOe.printStackTrace();
         String stackTrace = sw.toString();
         System.out.println("Null Ptr\n" +  stackTrace );
    }//end of first showerr
    public static String showerr(Exception e){
         StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();
         PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(sw);
         e.printStackTrace(pw);
         try{
         pw.close();
         sw.close();
         catch (IOException IOe){
         IOe.printStackTrace();
         return sw.toString();
    }//end of second showerr
    } // end of class
    [\code]

    Overloading is when you have multiple methods that have the same name and the same return type but take different parameters. See example
    public class Overloader {
         public String buildError(Exception e){
              java.util.Date now = new java.util.Date() ;
              java.text.DateFormat format = java.text.DateFormat.getInstance() ;
              StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer() ;
              buffer.append(format.format(now))
                   .append( " : " )
                   .append( e.getClass().getName() )
                   .append( " : " )
                   .append( e.getMessage() ) ;
              return buffer.toString() ;
         public String buildError(String msg){
              java.util.Date now = new java.util.Date() ;
              java.text.DateFormat format = java.text.DateFormat.getInstance() ;
              StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer() ;
              buffer.append(format.format(now))
                   .append( " : " )
                   .append( msg ) ;
              return buffer.toString() ;
         public String buildErrors(int errCount){
              java.util.Date now = new java.util.Date() ;
              java.text.DateFormat format = java.text.DateFormat.getInstance() ;
              StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer() ;
              buffer.append(format.format(now))
                   .append( " : " )
                   .append( "There have been " )
                   .append( errCount )
                   .append( " errors encountered.")  ;
              return buffer.toString() ;
    }Make sense ???

    In iOS 4, when I wanted to take a nap, I would go to settings->notifications->off.  That would disable all notifications, so I would only be woken by a phone call or a text message, not by a notification.  In iOS 5, I no longer see a way to turn off
