Two 27 cinema displays (not thunderbolt)
I have two non thunderbolt 27" cinema displays (2010). I want to attach them to a mac mini, is that possible?

I tried the CinemaView Duo Dual Display Extender for Mini Displayport, but it causes one of the displays to resolve at 800x600 maximum, and is very distorted.

Working with two cinema display and PN- K321 and I can not preview the output video at 4K by DisplayPort, whereas with premiere and after effects I have no problemsLook, you can build an HD DVD with an SD movie, just as you can build an SD DVD with an HD movie. This is not a bug, it is most likely user error. Apple will not be addressing it.
Just start over, and ensure you are building an SD DVD by bringing up the inspector for the disc (click on the background in the Graphical tab).
Make sure SD DVD is selected:
(If you do the same thing on your ill fated project, you'll see that HD DVD is selected)
Build your DVD and you'll be fine.

P.S. You will need to google HD DVD and Blu-Ray if you want to understand the difference between the formats. The reason that DVDSP included HD DVD was that its format was similar to SD DVD's. Blu-Ray is something else entirely. -
Daisy Chain 2 cinema displays to thunderbolt port on iMac?
Presently I have an iMac (mid 2011). I am running 2 cinema displays thru my 2 thunderbolt ports on my iMac. Is it possible to daisy chain these 2 additional displays to save a thunderbolt port? If so, how would be greatly appreciated.
Only Thunderbolt displays are capable of being daisy chained.
If you had one Thunderbolt Display and a Cinema Display then you could put the Thunderbolt Display first and then connect the Cinema Display into it, but it cannot be done with two Cinema Displays. -

The same problem has been unsolved for months now. No statements from Apple either.
I was told today to wait for 10.8.3. This might solve the issue. I can not belive my ears.
My MacBookPro 4,1, Intel Core 2 Duo with 2.5 GHz Processor and Graphics chip: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, will not talk to the exter. 20" Cinema Display ( Model Number A1081 ). The screen stays black. Resetting the PRAM did not help. I removed the 'com.apple.windowserver.plist' and the 'com.apple.windowserver.OE35739etc,etcxxxxxxxxxxx.plist', but that did not help either.
Any other solutions, or do I have to downgrade or give up on Apple Computers alltogether after using them for over 25 years?I found out that I needed a $100 mini displayport to dual-link dvi adapter to make my $30" cinema display work with my macbook pro

When I found out that solved the problem, I took it back because that was too expensive for a stupid adapter, and it still didn't work perfectly. -
I whanted to use my macbook pro in a larger deskop ,so if can somebody answer can i use my Macboook pro 13 inch, its a Minidisplay cable its not thunder bolt ,can i use it to a new apple led cinema display? Thank you!
Never mind, I solved it. Didn't know the converter needed a power source to operate (duh!) Now I have that, it works just fine.......

Two Cinema Displays + 17" MBP?
Hey all,
Looking to connect two 23" Cinema Displays (the older aluminium version with DVI) to a 2011 17" MBP with an i7/8GB RAM/AMD 1GB video card/Thunderbolt...is it possible? I know about the Matrox DualHead but was wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives (that perferably treat each external display as separate and not just one big stretched screen). I have found this external pci solution but not 100% it will work. I was just gonna buy the raedon card with dual minidp output and run it externally. It says it's Mac compatible I'm just not sure if the video card will fit the enclosure. Heres the link. http://www.magma.com/2slot.asp -
Attach two Cinema Displays to MBP?
can i attach two 2004 Apple Cinema Displays (23" 20") to my 15" 2011 MBP? I see some community references to external devices (Matrox or EVGA). Is there no way to do it using just some combination of DVI / miniDV / USB cables adapters? Thanks!
Do your two displays have ADC (Apple Display Connector) ports, or DVI ports? If they have DVI, you can connect one to your MBP's Thunderbolt port with a mini-Displayport-to-DVI adapter and the other to a USB port with an adapter like this:

Note that the USB-connected display will be less responsive than the other.
If your displays have ADC ports, you'll be stringing several adapters together just to get one of them connected, and I'm not certain that it will actually be possible to use either. Thunderbolt-to-ADC is very unlikely to have been tested by Apple, and given the high cost and difficulty of finding the long-discontinued ADC adapters nowadays, it would be a significant gamble for you to undertake the testing yourself. -
Cinema display VS Thunderbolt display

I'm about to start a bidding on an Apple Cinema display 24" bought in july 2010. Now, besides general opinions about this display, are there any fundamental differences between the Cinema display (CD) and the newer Thunderbolt display (TD)?
What I already know is that the TD has 3xUSB, 1xFireWire, 1xThunderbolt and 1xEthernet on the back where the CD only have 3xUSB. Also, the TD only need the thunderbolt cable to the (i e) MacBook to function where the CD need to have the USB cable in addition to the cinema display cable connected to function.
Have I got that right?
I have the newest MacBook Pro with thunderbolt output, but do I still need the USB cable to get the 3xUSB hub on the display? Or is it enough with the cinema display cable from the display?

Oh, that's right - one more thing! I've read a little about compatiblity with different displays and computers. My MacBok Pro has thunderbolt output, but is it still possible to connect the Cinema display that does NOT support thunderbolt?

23" Cinema Display not working. Please help!!!!
I recently purchased a dual 2gHz MacPro Tower and a 23" HD cinema display (both factory refurbished by Apple). Everything worked flawlessly. Then...
I was away from my computer for about a week, during which time both the computer and the monitor were powered down the entire time.
Now my CPU boots fine, and I can hear it responding (when I raise and lower the volume, etc.) but the ACD won't fire up at all. The light on the front isn't blinking or anything, and I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do (I've already reset pram, replugged everything in, restarted several times, etc).
I've also done the ULTRA obvious stuff like brightening my display (which does nothing). I don't know how a less-than-a-month factory refurb that's been off for a week could go kaflooey, but any advice is greatly appreciated.I'm having a similar problem although it may be USB related. It started with my 2 year old 23" display not waking up when it and the computer (3 month old 15" Mac Book Pro) were asleep overnight. The first two nights this happened I'd restart everything and it'd all be fine. The next couple nights I noticed that if I just unplugged the USB cable from the display into the computer, it would all wake up and function just fine. Today (the 4th day or so, and the day I finally have time to research what the problem might be) the display won't start up at all. There is no indicator light (and never has been in these situations) on the ACD. According to my Display menu bar and my system profiler, my computer definitely recognizes that the monitor is attached (although this was not true the first time the ACD acted up). My mouse also acts as thought the ACD is online... I have now adjusted brightness, and unplugged absolutely everything and replugged it all into a different power source. Still no go... Haven't had a chance to buy a new brick, not really sure that'd work for me... any ideas?
If it were the brick- based on what I've seen on the back of my ACD, it doesn't even look like you can disconnect the cord?
and just a side note... in exploring this problem i noticed that you can choose what the power buttom on the ACD actually controls in the Options menu of the Display System Preferences... is this only for older OS's? because my display preferences has absolutely no Options menu in it...

20inch cinema display not working via ADC?
Heres the specs on my Mac
Dual 450mhz Gigabit Ethernet Model
OS X 10.3.9
1.38GB SDRAM
ATI 128 video card -----> now nvidia GeForce 4 MX
The Story:
I have had my G4 since it was new. I bought it with the 17" Studio Display and it has worked fine. and still works fine with both video cards mentioned above. I bought a used 20" Cinema Display. I saw the display working off an ADC connection before I even paid the guy. I brought the monitor home and tried it out. It loaded to the grey apple screen and then went blank. After some research I found out the ATI 128 only supports up to 17" display. So I got a nVidia GeForce4 MX, put it in my machine, fired it up and I get NO DISPLAY AT ALL! I plugged the 17" back in and it works just fine.
Also the guy I purchased it with threw in the apple DVI to ADC adapter, so I plugged the monitor into my Powerbook 1.33mhz and everything works just fine in mirror and dual display modes.
I am stumped. Can anyone help?

I don't know if this will help, but here goes. I bought my 20" Cinema Display with the first G5s to come out ~ 9/2003. Lightning came in on my G5 thru the ethernet port and it wouldn't boot up. Frustrated, I unhooked everything and let the setup sit.
About a month ago I bought a G4 off ebay. It had a video card that had a DVI and VGA port--I guess it was an aftermarket upgrade. I was itching to try my 20" Cinema Display on it. So I bought the Apple DVI to ADC adapter ($99 thing). Hooked it up and sweet, screen real estate for days!
Came home a couple of days later, woke the G4 from sleep, and the Cinema Display stayed blank....f*!
I was p**d! I spent nearly $1200 for the thing, plus $99 for the adapter. I tried unplugging and plugging the adapter/display/G4 per the adapter instructions, still blank screen.
Well, today I had 3 different 22" LCDs in my newegg.com shopping cart and was ready to fork out $200-$300 for a new LCD with a DVI connection. I was convinced it was the adapter. So I thought I would try to hook the setup up 1 more time before I pulled out my debit card. I looked at the instructions again, and noticed apple pictured plugging the power cord into the adapter box first, then plugging the power cord coming from the adapter into the power source, then plugging the display into the adapter box, then plug the DVI cord from the adapter into the G4s video card (DVI-I port), then finally plug the USB cord from the adapter into the G4.
I powered up, and low and behold, I worked!!!
I'm typing this post on my 20" Cinema Display right now.
Only two things I can figure is setting the G4 and display to sleep is no good. The display and/or adapter seems not to work well with the sleep function. So I set System Preferences to never sleep for the display and the G4. Second, could there be a sensor where the power cord plugs into the adapter box? That's the only step I did different this time.
Sorry so long winded but if I can help out i want to 'cause I know how frustrated and sick I was about a having a kickin' $1200 display on the blink.
It could be just a coincidence, I'll repost if the Display goes blank again.

If I plug another monitor into the full-sized DVI port the computer believes that is the only monitor. The Cinema Display works fine with my MacBook, so there is nothing physically wrong with it.

I use a 24" LED with my Mac Pro. Works a treat!

I got my 20" Cinema Display back from repair today (backlight problem) and now I can't get my MacBook Pro to detect that it's attached. While it was at the repair center, I used a CRT as a second monitor. So today, I just closed the MBP (didn't shut it off, which I think is what cause the problem), disconnected the CRT, connected the ACD and opened the MPB back up. Completely black screen, with the little LED on all the time.
So, troubleshooting:
- The MBP still detects the CRT
- ACD is detected by both a G4 and G5
- A different 20" ACD is ALSO not detected by my MBP
- Reset NVRAM and SMC
- Booted MBP in safe mode
- Booted MBP from startup CD
- Tried various resolutions while the CRT was connected, thinking maybe it was stuck on one that's not compatible with the ACD
- Moved and recreated the com.apple.windowserver.* files
I'm running 10.4.9 and here's what the graphics/displays info says, WITH the Cinema Display connected:

Been messing with this for four hours, and I still have a blank display. Any other ideas? From one thread someone mentioned replacing the logic board fixed a similar problem.

I just got back from my visit to a mac genius. Of course Murphy's law was in full effect! With my MBP connected to the cinema display in the Mac store, everything worked as it is supposed to.
Well, I rush home thinking that maybe mine would now work - - no luck! He did suggest that I try connecting analog with the provided dvi-to-vga adapter. This suggestion DID work! BUT, I want my video digital! That is why even though I was happy with the iBook G4 that I bought last year, I wanted digital video + expanded desktop!
I think I will make another reservation with the Mac Genius, but this time, bring my monitor. Will keep you posted... -
Built-in camera in Cinema Display not recognized after SL Install
Is anyone else having this problem? After installing the Snow Leopard upgrade, my system no longer recognizes the Cinema Display build in camera, not in iChat and not in Photo Booth. Help!
What I've done is create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane

after upgrading to Snow Leopard. The new account is using default settings (for Snow Leopard), so it is a good basis for comparison tests. Your issue would be a good use for it.
After creating that new admin user account, log out and log in to the new account. Try the thing that does not work, in the new account. If it works in the new account, the problem is not technically Snow Leopard, but some conflict with something in your existing pre- Snow Leopard user account. It might be some user preference file that you have to trash or some background process that is conflicting, but you can focus troubleshooting on your normal user account as the cause.
If it still does not work in the new account, then the problem is likely to be a bug in the overall system, or a hardware issue. -

When you say two displays you mean the built in one and the additional Cinema Display I have added, correct? If I want to add a second Cinema Display what additional hardware do I need?

Apple HD Cinema Display not working
Hello everyone, I bought a used Apple HD Cinema Display a few months ago and I have been using it with no problems in Leopard with my white macbook (late 2007). I have recently installed XP using bootcamp (the display was not connected at the time of install) and now I am unable to get the display to work in XP. All I get is a black screen. Can anyone help me with this please? Are there any drivers that I may need to install in XP to allow it to work?
