Two accounts in Mail

I have recently inherited a Macbook Pro from my boss who got a new one. He used migration assistant to transfer data and I reformatted the laptop completely to delete his username and data and start over. Now I am having a problem with Mail:
In my Mail I have two accounts: my account is set up as POP and my boss's email account set  up as IMAP (so that his email can stay on the server for a week and it does not disappear when I open my mail). When I used a PC there was no problem - when I downloaded his email from the server onto my PC nothing occured to his email (if I deleted it, moved it to different folders that I had in my Outlook express etc).
However, now when we have two Macbooks Pro whenever his email is first downloaded to my computer if I delete it or move it it disappears from his Mail on his computer. It is as if the server "thinks" our machines are one machine. However, if he is the first one to download the emails this does not happen. Nevertheless, I cannot know where was email downloaded first - to my or to his computer - and therefore cannot delete or file emails to different folders.
I would really appreciate help since this is truly affecting my work. I have tried different setups in email accounts but nothing works. I even tried Outlook on my Mac but the same thing happens. Therefore, I belive that the problem is not in the email client but rather in the server or network, but I might be wrong.
Thanks a lot in advance!
Ana

Try unchecking these two.

  • My two e-mail accounts on mail are not sending separately

I have two accounts on mail. When I send it through my business account it shows that it is going thru this account (at the bootom I select that it on my business account) but when I receive the e-mail it goes back to my hotmail account? Why is it switching over and how I can I get it to send with my business account?
    Thank you

Hello, check this setting... Mail>Preferences>Composing, about in the middle under Addressing... Send new mail from... mine is set from account of last used Mailbox, but if you have that account setup, you can select it.

  • Something is wrong with default mail account. Mail ignores the default one and uses another.

Hi! I use two accounts on Mail: @gmail.com and @mail.ru. The @mail.ru is used as default. So all answers have to be sent from mail.ru, however it is not - they go from @gmail.com. What is wrong?

When I reply to emails that were sent to my business account, Mail automatically responds using my .mac email address. It will not reply using my business account.
Very frustating and time consuming, having to go to the drop-down menu of email accounts, select my business account and then reply.
Did not work this way before the "upgrade."
Any solutions from anyone or from Apple??

  • Switching between user accounts in Mail

I have set up two accounts in Mail, for two different ISPs. I can see the two accounts in the Preferences. However, I cannot see how to tell Mail which one to use. I have tried just clicking on the appropriate one in Preferences.
When I send mail, some messages are rejected, and the incorrect smtp address shows on it. I cannot see how to change it. For some messages, I can choose which smtp to use, but in some cases, the alternative does not appear.
    Any ideas, please?

    Thanks Ben,
I have the two accounts set up with the correct smtp server assigned to each one. I can see them by clicking on each account. I have set the "Send New Mail from" to the one I want to send the particular message from.
I deleted my earlier test messages from the Outbox, and waited a few hours before trying again. It seems that using server A I can send using SSL, but that using server B I cannot use SSL. They show as different numbered ports, so there should not be a conflict.
I am now getting a different message for the one it cannot send; instead of saying it cannot send it and refusing to give me the option of using the other server, it now just says it is being rejected by the server at the other end, so maybe there is something wrong with the address.
So, looks like you have sorted that problem out; but can you tell me if there is a problem about me not being able to use SSL for one of the servers?
(I love your icon. I do have one of those old Macs; hate to throw away.)
    Many thanks

  • How do I set up two accounts with two separate mail applications?

My wife and I have two separate email accounts. At home she gets her mail on her computer and mine on my computer. While traveling I would like to be able to allow her to get her email on my laptop. I set up the 2nd account and activated it but her email comes in mixed with mine. How can I set up a separate mail program for her account?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Jim Conrad

    Hello Jim.
As already provided, open Inbox to reveal the Inbox for each account. Selecting an account's Inbox mailbox reveals messages received by that account only in the message list. Selecting Inbox reveals a "blended" Inbox mailbox for all accounts.
The same applies to Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk in the mailboxes drawer.
If you want these accounts to be truly separate, create a login account on your iBook for your wife - with or without admin privileges. Your wife can create her email account only in Mail under her login account and you can delete her account from Mail under your login account.
This way, each others' email accounts are kept completely separate along with all other data in each other's Home folder/directory. OS X was designed for multiple users in this way.
You can enable Fast User Switching which makes the process of switching between multiple login accounts a fast and easy process.
There are some families with 4 or more family members that use a single Mac in this way. Each login account can have their own Desktop background and settings, etc., etc. so when logging in to their account the Mac seems like it is theirs only.
This link focuses on setting up separate user login accounts for kids but the effect is the same.

  • Mail is not downloading messages from two accounts but the messages are in the server.

Hello, I'm having this problem. Mail is not downloading messages from two accounts. I don't know why but there're two accounts working so bad. If I click with the right button on the account and click to see the account details, I can see the messages on the server but not in inbox. I made a sync with this account and my iphone and then the iphone downlad the messages with out problems. Not my imac at work or my imac at home... what can be wrong?
    Thanks.

For Gmail, this is normal, there is nothing you can do about it -- just type Mail AND Gmail in the search box to see threads discussing how Gmail works.
As for the other accounts, this shouldn't happen. I wonder if what you're seeing is just that Mail is ignoring this setting for mail that was already on the server when you started using it. I've seen something like this happen when playing with that setting, e.g. changing it from "After one day" to "After one week". Mail would just ignore messages that fell in the timeframe where the two settings could interfere and I didn't notice it until some time later, when Mail "forgot" those messages had already been downloaded and, being faced with them again, dutifully downloaded them as if they were all new.
I believe that, if you leave the setting however you wish and stop playing with it, then Mail shall correctly process any mail that arrives from now on. In order to manually delete old messages that Mail seems to be ignoring, you can invoke the Account Info window (this is probably what you meant when you said "I can delete messages individually"; if that's not the case and want more info on this, just ask).

  • I have two personal e-mail accounts and a general account that I have synced to my Mail app, but I keep getting emails sent to the non-personal e-mail because they're on the same server. How can I change that?

I have two personal e-mail accounts and a general account that I have synced to my Mail app, but I keep getting emails sent to the non-personal e-mail because they're on the same server. How can I change that?

The only ways I know of for email to get sent to an account are:
    1. It was addressed to that account. Someone used that email address to send you the email.
    2. It was forwarded to that account by the account to which it had been addressed. I am not aware of Mail having this feature but it is often a feature provided by your ISP that you can turn on by logging into your account via the Internet and setting it up.  I assume you have not done this, though.
With several email addresses in the same Mail client, you have to be careful which one you are sending from. If you send from the wrong address, any replies will come back to that same address. I make this mistake all too often.

  • Two users, one mail account

We have one e-mail account in this household, but two adults living here. How do I set up Mail so that my wife can used the dropdown FROM menu in the New Message pane to show that any e-mail she sends came from her rather than from me?
I've tried setting up a separate Mail account using all the same ISP settings as the main account and simply changing my name to hers in that account, but Mail doesn't seem to like it. We end up with two copies of every e-mail sent to us.
I realise I am overlooking something simple.
    Or am I?

    Scratch my last post.
I re-read the whole thread and realize I did not understand and still do not understand what is going on. Let's start from the top:
Do you or do you not have two separate accounts at the same domain?
To be specific, I mean you both have an email address for each of you which you can log into at webmail.whateveryourdomainis.com. Is that the case?
If yes, and you are not using the same account in both accounts for SMTP, then there is something rotten in Denmark because there is no doubt Mail can do what you seem to want.

Gmail and Yahoo both scan users' emails. They do algorithmic analysis of your email messages, targeting ads that relate to the content of your messages.

  • Two Google mail accounts in Mail cannot send properly

I recently added a business email that was set up through google mail to Apple Mail.  Both boxes receive mail fine. However, when I try to send from my business email it is delivered through my personal.  When I try to edit the outgoing server to differentiate the two accounts Mail gives an error message that it cannot connect & defaults to online.   I have tried numerous options with no success.  Ironically, the emails perform perfectly on an Iphone but not a Macbook Pro.  Any thoughts?  Thank you

Click the extra one that you want to delete, then when it's highlighted, click the minus sign in the lower left corner to delete it.

  • Two completely independent mail accounts?

I would like to setup two completely independent mail accounts. So far, when I setup two accounts, the mailboxes are visible to both accounts, and the inboxes are merged (as well as being independently viewable). I have tried requiring password entry every time for login. In my case, I would like two separate accounts, with full invisibility to each other. One is a work based VPN account, and the other is an AOL account.
Is there a way to do this? There used to be a shareware program called MailSwitch, that has been discontinued, that might have accomplished this.
    Thanks
    Mike

indeed i do not believe that is possible without a third party plug in, and i do not know of a third party plug in that would do just that in leopard mail.
how about creating a second user on your mac and have one email account in mail.app under one user and the second email account in mail.app under the second user. it is a work around and you would have to toggle back and forth between users, but it is better than not being able to achieve your goal if important to you.
    hope this helps
