Two accounts on laptop--second account no profile so Firefox will not open

Had a problem with firefox 4.0.
followed a web site instructions--
removed profiles from both login accounts on laptop.
Re-installed firefox 4.0.
Main/administrator account where I installed firefox 4.0 installed correctly and starts up.
Second account, get the error: "Firefox is already running. To open a new window you must first close the existing Firefox, or restart your system."
I restarted firefox, same error. I read about the parentlock, but on second account there is no profile, so i can not delete the lock file.
How to I recreate a profile for second account.
thanks

  • Firefox will not open on my laptop computer,It is my designated server but will not open???? Any ides why?

Firefox will not open on my lap top

No, nothing at all happens. Once clicked the 'circle' that suggest it is loading appears (if that makes sense) but no, nothing
    Many thanks.
Can you check something for me please?
Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
    Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)?

  • Please help - Firefox will not open. library - applications - and no firefox is listed to get to my profile manager. . What's next?

firefox has been running slower. When this happens I'll reboot my computer and this speeds up firefox. When I restarted the computer firefox would not open. Just the spinning wheel with no access to the tools.
After I force quit - it says ignore or notify/report to apple. I tried sending a report, and it ques up the box with details, system config, etc... but when I click on send - it will not let me send one - I've never been unable to send a report before.
I uninstalled, then reinstalled. Upon opening I get the spinning wheel and nothing happens - I need to force quit. I see on this mozilla help site that I need to update my profile manager. I followed these instructions - Finding your profile without opening Firefox Open Finder and go to your home folder. Note: your home folder is usually the name of your Mac user account From your home folder open /Library/, then /Application Support/, then /Firefox/, then /Profiles/. Your profile folder is within this folder. but when I got to library - application support - there is no firefox listed.

You can do a disk check with the chkdsk.exe program.
If you run the chkdsk.exe program from a cmd.exe Command window then you can read the response from the chkdsk.exe program.
    Open a cmd.exe window:<br />
    Start &gt; Run: cmd.exe &lt;press Enter&gt;
    At the command prompt (>) type or Copy&Paste: chkdsk.exe /f /r &lt;press Enter&gt; (put a space before /f and /r)
If you get something like: Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? y/n then answer the question with "Y" and close all programs and reboot the computer.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • After startup firefox will not open immediately sometimes must reboot laptop ??

after start-up I double click on the desktop icon or right click to open and FF will not open. I then must reboot the laptop and it usually opens. It seems to reopen ok later after closing the browser during the day. I had a box appear on opening for awhile that showed some upgrades for some apps (that I always declined) and then it went away after while. Sometimes when I go to open the box appears very briefly and as just a border of the box and then disappears. Could that be the reason for the hangup? Any input would be helpful. Should I maybe just reload the latest upgrade. thanks ahead of time helpful people. :o))

    Try a clean reinstall.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
    * Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Firefox will not open from my desk top anymore. I can't change my profile if I can't get to it!

Yesterday (1/19/13) morning, my Firefox opened fine and it was business as usual. Yesterday afternoon, I clicked on my desktop icon, the little circle spun for about 2 seconds then stopped. Firefox would not open. This morning, the same thing happened. I removed Firefox from my computer, re-downloaded it, and it worked...until now (about 1 hour later). The same thing is happening again. Firefox does not show up on my task-manager.

Me too!! Please let me know if you figure out a way to fix this. I ran the Safety scan and it still will not load. If anyone knows how to go back to the previous version please let me know. Thanks.

  • Firefox will not open after fresh install in OSX Lion. "Firefox profile missing."

After recently upgrading OS X Snow leopard to OS X 10.7 Lion I downloaded and ran the Firefox installer package, only to find that Firefox could not open. The error message says "Profile missing – Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible"
I checked Firefox forums and found a script that when run in Terminal allows access to the (upper) Library folder; but this still does not solve the issue.
Obviously, with Lion Apple has deliberately placed a stumbling block in the way of would-be Firefox users.

Thank you. I solved the dilemma, which was one of my own making although I take no blame for it. You see, a while back I grew tired of going through the semantics of manually deleting Caches and Cookies and simply locked those folders (in Users/my name/Library) so that nothing could be added or removed from them without login credentials.
. . . There's where the fly got into the ointment. The Caches folder must be unlocked in order to run Firefox because it uses Caches to store files. Folder unlocked – problem solved.
It seems that OS X Lion has more warts than its predecessors (initially, at least), in that where Apple once gave the user full egress to all venues, it has developed a hard-nosed, up-in-your-face micro-managerial stance with Lion – such as making the System/Library invisible. This, of course, under the tacit label of "offering the user greater security" . . . against himself.
If you fully embrace that logic I've got some s. Florida realty I can dump I mean sell you on the cheap, lol.
    I appreciate your kind help.
    Thanks.

  • Firefox will not open at all (regular, safe mode, profile manager).

Firefox hung while using the Garmin import plugin on the mapmyrun.com page. No crash report was provided. After closing it, firefox will no longer open.
It appears in the taskmanager momently, but then disappears before any window appears. It never consumes more than 1004K of RAM before it disappears.
It will not open in regular mode, safe mode, or in profile manager. In each case the result is the same.
    I rebooted. No change.
I reinstalled it over itself. No change.
I completely uninstalled it, and then reinstalled it. No change.
I deleted sessionstore.js and replaced it with sessionstore.bak. No change.
I can't open the profile manager.

  • Firefox will not open. I have used it for two years.

For 2 years, until yesterday, Firefox worked well. I opened it, using the "Internet" button on the keyboard, or from the start menu. Now, nothing responds. Yesterday, when Mozilla was running, the top part of the screen display disappeared. The "search" message filled the whole screen. I tried clicking on Mozilla in the Start tableau, and the "All Programs" tableau. Nothing. According to the Control Panel, Mozilla, all 26.97 megabytes, is still there.

For some things you can try see [[Firefox will not start]].
I would start by seeing if a new profile works. See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows creating a new Firefox profile on Windows - MozillaZine Knowledge Base]
If the new profile does work, you can transfer selected data such as bookmarks and passwords to the new profile. I would not copy preferences or extensions, instead re-install the extensions. • HT201320 unable to open Email account or even set one up. Used many passwords that I have and nothing is accepted. I have an account through g mail, but will not open with passwords.

Cannot set up Email account I once had and lost. Will not accept password(s) have account through gmail, but cannot use.

It may be worth going directly to the gmail site: www.gmail.com can you login using what you believe to be your credentials? If not then it's likely to be an issue with the info you are using.  Also if you haven't used the account for a while it may have gone in to a suspended state, and logging back in will reactivate it. If you do manage to login ok, then try setting up the account on iPad again.

  • Firefox will not open for other users on a shared computer with individual accounts one day after installing Firefox

On a computer that is shared with multiple users(3),two of the users cannot open Firefox, only one user can. It shows the blue circle (Windows 7) but it disappears and does not open. Task Manager shows its running, but after closing,it won't open. Are there settings to adjust in Windows,or on Internet Options?
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1 installed.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Firefox will not open and my profile name changes, after I creat a new profile it works until I try to open again

Firefox version 16.0.2 was working I have used FF for years. A few days ago it started to run very slow opening web sites. Then this morning when I tried to open it I saw a progress bar that looked like the kind I see after an update has been applied but FF never opened.
I rebooted my windows 7 64 bit and tried again, nothing FF would not open and I got no error message.
So I opened the profile manager and only found a default profile not the one I created last year with my name. I created a new profile and browsed to my old profile folder. FF opened and ran fine until I closed it and later tried to open it again then I kept getting an error box telling me that FF had crashed and asked if I wanted to send a report and restart, I did but no good it still would not open.
I ran the profile manager again and found my profile had changed name to a bunch of numbers. I delete that profile but kept the folder then made a new one and that worked. I shut it down again and once again I get the We're sorry error box.
By the way I had set the profile manager to open when FF loads and it is not opening so the problem is before it gets to that command.

First I already have my view set to show everything so that is not the problem.
But I just tried opening "Computer" from the start button then type in profiles.ini in the address bar and hit enter. The profile manager opened with my profile listed. I selected it and hit start firefox and it opened as it should.
I closed it again and tried to open it from the shortcut in my task bar and I got the Sorry window.
But then I tried to open it from the short cut you get when you press the start button and program list and it work!
I went back to my desk top and tried the short cut on the desk top and it worked.
So I deleted the short cut on the task bar and created a new one and it worked.
I rebooted the computer and tried again and the task bar shortcut works and has the right profile.
So it seems that the problem is that the short cut was corrupted and was causing the error that caused the program to fail to open.
I had no idea a shortcut could do that. In the past I have had short cut stop working but never do what this one did.
I still have no idea where the profiles.ini is.

  • Firefox will not open even with new profile

When I attempt to open Firefox nothing happens on screen. I have created a new profile still no joy. In the Windows Task Master Process window Firefox.exe is shown. I have attempted to update Firefox no joy I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox still no joy. I know that it is working in the background but where and how can I bring it to the foreground

I do not get any messages when I attempt open Fire Fox just the browser does not open. I can see in the Task Manager that Firefox has started and is sitting idle but no Browser window.
