  • Syncing problems - two users, two iphones, one music library

    Hi there,
We've got 2 iPhone 3Gs at home running 2.2. Each syncs under a different user account running iTunes 8.0.2. Both accounts share a single music library (stored under the shared user folder, both accounts having read/write access to the folder). User #1 (me) has no problems syncing. User #2 syncing was working just fine right up until 2.2/8.02. Had been working fine under 2.1/8.0. Now, on sync getting strange error that says that user #2 cannot write to the music folder. Sync starts, back-up finishes, contacts, bookmarks, etc. sync just fine, but then iTunes hangs and must be force-quit. Anyone know how to diagnose and fix?

Have you checked the permissions (including "apply to enclosed items" ) on the music folder in the shared user folder? It could be that the latest update installed/modified something and gave only one user (presumably the one who was logged in during the update) read/write privileges to it. I have no idea what the iPhone may be trying to write to the music folder but one thing could be "recently played" information, assuming the iTunes library gets updated with that from synced iPods and iPhones.

  • Two phones, one music library, one App Store account

We have one App Store account that we use for two iPhones. We want to sync both phones to the same music library, and to do that we set up two OS X login accounts on the computer that has our iTunes library. The music library is shared between the accounts using an alias. We each have our own MobileMe account that keeps our computers in sync with our iPhone's address book and calendars.
I would call this setup pretty hokey. Maybe it's more complicated than we necessary? It allows us to buy apps just once for two phones, keep our contacts and calendars separate and personal and in sync with our computers, and makes it convenient to put whatever music we want on each of the phones.
We will be getting new 4S phones and iCloud and upgrading to Lion, so changes are on the horizon anyway. I am game to change the setup. Does anyone have advice on a better way to set this all up. I imagine iCloud introduces some new possibilities, and I suspect the way we are doing it now is hokier than necessary anyway.
I'm not interested in guesses about what might work. I'm hoping someone who actually knows what will work can save me from trial and error. :-)
    Thanks!
    Jon

I did some searches before my post, but actually found some things AFTER I made my post that sounded encouraging. If I understand correctly, we should be able to continue sharing the AppleID we use to buy apps and music on all of our devices. We can configure our personal devices and computers to use separate personal iCloud accounts, but somehow share the music and apps with each other. I guess I'm still not clear on how it'll work. :-)

  • How to share iTunes library: two users, two iPhones, one iTunes library

My wife and I just purchased new iPhones. I would like to be able to sync music from the library on my account to her iPhone, which syncs to her account. Please advise.

You can sync multiple iPods and/or iPhones with a single iTunes library on a computer.
If your wife has her own computer login account on your Mac where she stores her account information and calendar events which is synced with the iPhone, she can sync everything but iTunes content via your iPhone sync preferences under her login account, and sync iTunes content only via her iPhone sync preferences with iTunes under your login account.
You can disable automatic syncing when the iPhone is connected - there is a preference setting for each iPhone under the Summary tab for the iPhone sync preferences, and iTunes includes a global setting to not automatically sync when an iPod or iPhone is connected.
Your wife can create an iTunes Playlist with your iTunes library and place the music she wants available on her iPhone in this Playlist. Select sync selected Playlists and then select this Playlist only to be transferred to her iPhone. She can select which video, podcasts, etc. via her iPhone sync preferences.
You can do the same with your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
If you want to share the same iTunes library with multiple computer login accounts, you can transfer your iTunes library to an external drive which iTunes under each login account will be associated with.

  • Is there a way to share one music library with two seperate icloud accounts?

Is there a way to share one music library with two seperate icloud accounts? I have over 12,000 songs in my library and my son likes the same music, but recently his ipod touch is picking up the texts from my wife's and my phone? I was told the only way to stop this is by giving him his own icloud account which would mean he wouldn't have access to my music library. Any ideas?

He can still use your Apple ID for iTunes content, no issues. He just gets a separate ID for everything else.

  • We have two iPhones, one iMac, and one iTunes account. Can someone tell me an yeast way to manage each iPhone separately- that is -- when we connect each iPhone how do we keep our contacts separated? this is a real problem. Thanks

  • Two iphones, one iTunes account, two icloud accounts

    Hi,
I have two iPhones, one  privat, one from my company.
    I would like ...
... to have all music, apps, books bought via iTunes to be on both iPhones - use same Apple ID for iTunes account?
... seperate calender, contacts, todos - use different Apple IDs for iCloud?
Is there still a way to have all pictures taken in one common photo stream?

I have the same question.  My daughter and I share an apple account which is fine, but now I am getting some of her texts and each time I send her one I get a duplicate?  I thought I messed this up when we tried to Facetime each other and I have deleted all those options.  How do I fix it so I have my own texts and she has her own texts, I don't get duplicate texts but she can still access our I tunes account?  Please help

Sorry. Apple's policy states that accounts cannot be merged > Frequently asked questions about Apple ID

  • Two iPhones + One Mac = One Shared Photo Stream (Impossible?)

Please can someone give me a straight forward answer to this question? I have read through the other similar forum questions and I still don't feel that I have found a definitive answer / solution.
Is it possible to do the following please:
Two iPhones + One Mac = One Shared Photo Stream (i.e. three devices that all have access to and update the Photo Stream as photographs are taken)
    If so, how?
If not, am I really the only person that wants to do this?
    Thanks (in anticipation).

Create a free email account at gmail, yahoo, outlook.com, or one of the other email services and use that to create the second Apple ID.
Also, create separate user accounts on your computer for each of you to avoid unintentionally mixing up your data.

  • Using one music library with multiple user accounts

I want to use one Music Library and be able to have all my computer user accounts be able to access it. Article 93195 does not work for some reason. It is easy to share music over a network but not on the same computer? This can't be. I have talked to several Apple "Geniuses" and they all scratch their head. One guy could do it in Leopard, but not in Tiger. Could it have something to do with the permissions of the Itunes Music Folder? Any help would be appreciated. This is driving me crazy.

    1 Quit iTunes.
2 Drag your entire *iTunes folder* from /Username/Music to /Users/Shared.
    3 Log out.
1 Log in on your other account(s).
2 Start iTunes and immediately press an hold the Option key.
3 iTunes will ask to *Create new library* or *Choose existing library*. Select *Choose existing library*.
4 Select the *iTunes library file* in the *iTunes folder* in /Users/Shared.
5 Now go to File -> *Add to library* and select the *iTunes music folder* located in /Username/Music.
6 - iTunes will add all the music in from this account to the main iTunes music folder/library.
7 Delete the *iTunes folder* in /Username/Music
8 Restart iTunes normally (don't hold Option). Everything should be there.
9 Quit iTunes and log out of the account.
10 Do the above steps for all users. Don't do the first 1-3 steps. Start at the second series.
Log into your account, start iTunes normally and all music should be there.
Whenever any of you do anything in iTunes, it will be seen by all since you are using one and the same iTunes library file.
Create a "main" playlist for each user with their own music. Create a smart playlist and set it to Playlist is not the playlist you created above. Select this and it will show you everything NOT in your playlist. Do the same for the others. This will help when adding only the music you want your own playlist.
Note that iTunes can only be opened by one user at a time. If you have Fast user switching enabled, the other users must quit iTunes in order for anyone else to use it.

  • I have two iphone one is iphone 5 and othere is iphone 4 . can i use same id for both ? And do i have to purchase the application again for iphone 4 which i have buyed for iphone 5.??

i have two iphone one is iphone 5 and othere is iphone 4 . can i use same id for both ? And do i have to purchase the application again for iphone 4 which i have buyed for iphone 5.??

You can use the same Apple ID for both phones, you would then be able to use the purchased Apps/Content on both phones without having to pay again.
