Two address books so i can merge one with other software?!

apologies again for the multiple mac mail questions today. i am a relatively new mac user, have upgraded recently to lion and am trying to finally put it all together.
does anyone know if it is possible to create a second address book account?
i would like to merge my contacts in CardScan with Mac Address Book but i would like to keep my Address Book contacts (the ones i use on my phone all the time) separate from this more business oriented database.
any ideas?
TIA

CC,
you can add a new user account on your Mac (open system preferences / accounts) and start fresh there with an empty AddressBook.
If you want to fill this with a part of your original AB, select those and export as vCards. Drop this export file in your shared folder so you can access that from the new user account. Open AB ther and import the vCards

  • Can CC integrate with other software like JIRA?

Creative Cloud files are great for collaboration. I'm wondering if it's possible to integrate CC with other software like JIRA for better project management?

To repeat my answer from your other post,
    To use Ozone in GB:
Open your Info, choose Master, open Details, and click on the blank effect section (w/ the checkbox beside it) and choose Ozone.
You can use it the same way for individual tracks if you want to.
(of course, I'm assuming that you have its Audio Unit (AU) installed.)

  • Address book : provide contact list import/export from other software

There should be an easy way to import contact information from Gmail accounts, Hotmail, and so forth. They're providing efficient ways to export their database, so it shouldn't be too hard for developers to add this usual feature.
I would agree that the contact export/import procedures usually offered are not user-friendly. But it's not user-friendly either to recreate a contact list of 200+ contacts manually.
I hope this feature will be added in a near future. Thanks. Rodan

Thanks, I'll definitely use this bugreporter in the future.
Concerning this case, I've just found this feature is already implemented.
Address Book > File > Import
Strange I couldn't find any documentation about it online. Well, here it si now, I hope people will see it. Bug closed anyway. :-)

  • Is it possible to have two address books on one computer?

I would like to create two address books on my computer.  One for my wife and one for me.  Therefore we can each sync our iphones to address books.

You can do that by have two separate user accounts on the computer - one for you and one for your wife. This also lets you each have separate Apple IDs so that your iPhone data are separately synced.
Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers4. I
have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.

  • Can two Address Books exist on my iMac

I use my iMac for keeping tabs on a list of recuring events throughout the years as well as over the years.  The events generally follow in particular months each year and have new attendees as well as returning participants from previously held events who continue to attend the events.
I have kept records in Word for Mac, on Pages & Numbers, but nothing works best like Address Book.  I have several hundred participants that I would like to reorganize into a central location and find that Address Book might be best suited for the task.  The problem is that I would like to keep separate these names and dates from my personal/business Address Book if at all possible.
My question is, "Can two Address Books exist on the iMac, each with its own intended purpose?  Namely, Address Book 1 (Personal) and Address Book 2 (Events)?
    Any ideas would be welcome.
    Regards,

Two ways to go about this.  You can create Addressbook groups, or you can make a second user account within your Mac just to manage the second addressbook.  The advantage of the former, you can selectively search between two separate groups of addresses.    The advantage of the second obviously is totally separate operation.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2486 - explains the Smart Groups feature of Addressbook
Apple menu -> System preferences -> Users and Groups helps you setup multiple accounts. Fast user switching allows you to use a menubar switch to go between two different users.

  • Can I have two Address Books?

I have used a distribution list in Outlook for years to send a email to about 125 members of a professional organization.  Now both MSN and Gmail say that I can't send this number of emails, as it might be SPAM.
So, I'm trying to get away from Outlook since I use Apple Mail now.  I plan to import this list into a group in my Address Book but hate to have to manage these contacts along with all my other contacts.
Is there a way to have two contact lists, or two Address Books?  I know the problem will probably still be there and I'll have to break the list down into several smaller groups to make this work (thanks SPAMMers!).  But I don't trust Outlook since I've installed in on my MBP and want to do this group email using Mail.
Importing the list will take some careful planning of the text file to import from.  Too bad you can't import from an Excel spreadsheet.
I know there are multiple subjects here.  Any suggestions??

Thanks for the responses to this query.  I was afraid that only one Address Book was allowed per user.
Guess I have no good option other than to put these contact into my Address Book and put them in a group.  Probably will need to put them into several groups as it looks like most of the email programs now will not allow sending email to groups as large as this one (close to 150 contact names).
Seems like there should be a way to get around this restriction, but no being able to find help from these email groups, makes it difficult.  There was a time when you could contact support people at msn.com or at some of the other commercial email providers.  Not today.
I'll do a CVS import as suggested and go from there.

  • Two address book conflicts

    hi
i have 3 address books across 2 macs and 1 iphone. iphone and one mac remain up to date via iphone sync.
both macs are on same LAN.
however, sometimes i enter contact info on the other mac and thus all my contacts are not up to date across all 3 devices.
i know i can send both macs full list vcards and merge but i have a few questions concerns before i do:
if i go ahead and import address books from each mac to other mac i will be prompted to merge any duplicates. if i do so, will i lose some contact info? doesnt it ask me which duplicate to delete?
how can i have two macs update each other in future without need to copy over vcards manually?
any other tips comments suggestions per merging address books.
    thanks,
    wayne

for example on one card I might have capitalized the names, on the other the names are in lower case letters. The address book will ask me to hoghlight whcih card i want. i highlight the upper case, but the conflict keesp coming back.

  • Two address books and calendars?

My employer gave me a Blackberry Curve 8310.  It is set up to sync email (wireless) with my employer's email server which is Lotus Notes.
My personal address book and calander are on MS Outlook, which I used to sync hardwire with my personal desktop.
Can I use two address books and calendars on the Curve 8310, one Lotus Notes for professional items and one MS based for personal items?
TIA.  I hope this wasn't too elementary.

  • Address Book not responding after merging contacts

I merged all my contacts into one card by mistake. Now, when I open Address Book, it just shows the spinning wheel and the application does not respond. I trashed the app and re-installed it from the Install DVD, but that hasn't changed anything. Fortunately, I have a recently archived file for my contacts. I think I need to trash the address book data file or files, and import the archived contacts. Where can I find the file(s) of my contacts and address book data?

Well, no one responded, but I managed to sort it out myself. I had to delete all the files in ~/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata, then import the archived contacts.

  • HT2486 two address books on iMac

I have set up two user accounts on my iMac. One for me and one for my wife. However, every time I try to import an address book for my wife it brings up my address book. How can I have two separate address books. My one which is accessed when in my user account and one for my wife accessed when in her account?

    Thanks,
I set up the other account and now have one with all contacts and one with my wife's.
The phone numbers are not in this address book. i.e. my wife's address book only contains the email addresses I imported. The phone number for the same person is in another account.
I am totally confused and now scared to delete anything incase I loose one or the other.
So difficult. Why can't it be simple. i.e. you set up a user account each on the imac and then when you import whilst in that account it automatically setsup an address book in that user account and ignores previous address books in existing user accounts. That would be much simpler and if you wanted to share them you could?
Thanks for the help. I at least have the emails in a separate address book.

  • I want to use a Thunderbird address book folder to mail merge into MS Word letter [name, address]. How to?

I recently migrated from Outlook 2010 to Thunderbird. I have contact folders. I publish a newsletter in MS Word. I want to mail merge my newsletter with now a specific contact database [folder] in the Thunderbird address book. So my question is, how to do this?

Unfortunately, the tight and smooth integration you have experienced between Outlook and Word is due to those two products having come from the same Office stable and having been designed from the outset for such interoperability. With Thunderbird coming from a third party author, there's not much incentive for Microsoft to support or encourage interchange of data between Office components and Thunderbird.
If you have Outlook and Word, what advantages do you anticipate in using Thunderbird? (Personally, I do exactly the same because I dislike Outlook and its Ribbon in particular). But I don't have much call for the sort of task you are attempting.
The long and short of it is that you'll probably have to export your TB Address Book to a format that your Word mail merge can use. Since I haven't tried this for myself in a long time, I don't know what Word can use. I'd hope that CSV would fit the bill.
If you are thinking about moving away from Microsoft Office, then you might look at Libre Office, which can, IIRC, use a data source such as Thunderbird's address book as a mail merge source. But this alone may not be a very good reason to move away from tools you know. :-S

  • Two address books

Anybody know if it's possible to sync only certain address book groups - or - run two address books?
I've got contacts I need everyday, which I need to sync with MobileMe and my iPhone.
I've also got hundreds of contacts I would like to keep separately, so they don't sync and fill up my iPhone.
So, unless there is a way of not syncing a group within my main address book, can I run a second address book.
    Suggestions gratefully received!

On the Info panel when you sync in iTunes, you can select the Address Book groups you sync.
I don't use mobile me, so I don't know how it is set up. You may be able to do something similar.
And, there's not a simple way to keep two address books for the same user.

  • Address books. I am using one titled Mac O/S, but when I save a contact it goes into personal address book instead. Use O/s address books checked in menu. Thank

I would like to use only one address book. When I star a contact, the address goes to the personal address book, despite the OS address book being specified in the menu. How can I transfer a name from the personal address book to the OS inbox. Can I delete the personal address book? Or transfer the contacts, then eliminate the OS address book? Many thanks. New user.

Personal and Collected address books are the default books and cannot be removed.
You can select all the contacts in the MAC book and move them to the personal book.
Select one contact in the MAC book. Press control+a to select all. Drag them to the personal book and drop them there.
You can click the star a second time when adding a contact to open the edit dialog box and select a different address book from the drop down list.

How do I get address book 4.1.2 to work with osx 10.6.7

You probably can't, but you can start by posting your queston in the correct forums...the OS X Mail and Address Book forums, as this forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to your question in any way.
