Two annoying iTunes problems

I've noticed two iTunes problems that are quite annoying; one of which has been there for several versions.
The first, which I have just noticed since iTunes 10, is that when modifying the information for several mp3s at the same time (eg., an entire album), the new information won't stick to one of the songs. For me it doesn't initially happen when I start iTunes but after I've changed about 3 albums' information, it starts and then is repeatable for every change. This means the work takes twice as long since I have to enter the information again so that the other song gets the same info.
The second problem is that when I start iTunes and the external hard drive where my songs (not library file) is located, and then start the external drive, any songs added to the library will be saved to the local drive and not the external drive. iTunes can see the external drive since it's able to play songs from it. There is also no message nor a way to see file path as a header option.
I'm glad they fixed the bug where the songs in an album would show up as separate albums.
Has anyone else had these problems? Any work arounds?

The second problem is that when I start iTunes and the external hard drive where my songs (not library file) is located, and then start the external drive,
Fire up the external drive and make sure it is ready and mounted before launching iTunes.

  • My wife and I both have iPads and two separate iTunes accounts, and do NOT want to share apps

My wife and I share one MacBook. We both each have an iPad and we each have our own indvidual iTunes accounts. That is we have two separate individual iPads and two separate iTunes accounts. I do not want her apps on my iPad, and she does not want my apps on her iPad.
When my wife tries to update her apps on her iPad, it shows my user ID and requests my password. It does not even give her an option to put in her own iTunes account ID and password. This happens even though she is clearly logged in on her iPad under Settings --> Store with her own iTunes account, and have the same setup on my iPad (my own user ID and password for my iTunes account). I do not have this problem on my iPad.
How do we keep our apps separate? This is very annoying!
    Thanks!

There's info here on setting up separate libraries and user accounts. You won't have to reload (or re-import) all the music, just copy it.
The reason I suggest separate accounts on the Mac is because if you have the two libraries under the same user account, iTunes will also open the last library that was open in that account, and you'll always have to be mindful of which library that is. If you open iTunes and find it's not your library, you'll have quit, relaunch holding the option key and select the other library.
No, you won't have to log in and out of the Mac. (If I'm understanding your question here.) Multiple accounts can be logged in at the same time. And with fast user switching, you can toggle between user accounts.
I'll admit that maintaining the two libraries gets a little tricky, because if you share all the same music, you'll have to add it to one and update the other. (That won't happen automatically.) But I think Home Sharing makes this much easier to do.
    Hope that helps!

  • Annoying iphone problems, help plz?

well, I'm having two annoying problems with my iphone, the first is that when I record a video or a photo, it does not save and the second is that it does not appear as a removable drive on the pc, SOMEBODY HELP ME PLZ :/

You should try to restore the iPhone using iTunes make sure you back up, see if it helps.
iPhones won't show as removable device if you are referring to be able to copy/transfer files similar to a usb flash drive. It is restricted based on Apple's specification altho it should appear as "Digital Camera Device" having access to your captured photo's or "camera roll" you should unlock your iPhone first before connecting to PC or Mac if you do have a password.
As of saving issues, try to restore the firmware by itunes or resetting through iPhone settings as reset or restore.
It should fix and work as normal, if it doesnt you can always go back from where you purchased it but it will. Goodluck.

  • 2G ipod shuffle itunes problem

When itunes brings up the ipod shuffle page, and I try to click back to my library, itunes just closes. It works just fine on my windows computer, and I restored it and I still have that problem.

    Jake,
I was having a problem with my shuffle and my PowerBook too. Let me tell you what I did and then I'll tell you what was wrong (as I'm sure you're anxious to know how I resolved it). I decided to plug in the 2gen shuffle and I went to the settings tab (top of the page) after I selected the shuffle. I scrolled down to the bottom of the page and clicked on "enable disk" (got a warning about having to eject from iTunes and Finder for future use) then I left my slider at 240 songs so I could preserve all of my space for the music. I clicked "apply" and that did the trick.
Now let me tell you the issue I had so you can see if you fit into any of these annoying little problems. I plugged in the iPod on the first use and named it. I unchecked the box for autofil and then clicked Ok. No problems until after I dropped some music into it. If I clicked on the "Music" label to view my library I would get a message that says my iPod could not be written to and the disk could not be found. Sometimes I would try to eject and I would be told that another app was using files on the shuffle and it couldn't be stopped (update service???). Did you notice that iTunes checks for updates every time you move from song to song or playlist to playlist. I closed iTunes and ejected my iPod from the Finder and then connected it again. It mounted and unmounted mostly normal but I still would get the "could not update" message, not once, but two - four times. I even tried a restore once and it failed because of something having to do with read / write or acces. The first sucessful restore and replacement of music yeilded my shuffle useless: files transferred and itunes could play the file, but the shuffle would not play in the earbuds. I restored a second time and it started working again. At any rate, I read a little and noticed some windows users finding a manipulation (formatting, autofil, disk use, etc...) so I thought about it and realized what they were doing compared to us. There's something wrong with the device's firmware or iTunes 7.0.2 that causes errors when you only use the shuffle for music. I put a check in the box to enable disk use and then realized that I could still keep all of my space for iTunes. Basically I just fool the shuffle and it works like a champ now.
    Best of luck,
    Dan

  • Can you have two separate iTunes files on one computer?

I gave my daughters each an old iPOD. One is 20 GB and the other is 60 GB. I take an iBOOK laptop with me when I visit so I can update them. In the past, they shared the 20 GB iPOD only. Now I have a problem as one iPOD can store a lot more than the other. Is there any way to have two separate iTUNES files on one iBOOK computer, one with the songs for the 20 GB iPOD, and the other for the 60 GB iPOD?

The problem with making separate accounts is that this is a laptop, so likely not a huge hard drive, and if the three iTunes libraries need to have a lot of the same music (because everyone or two or three like some of the same stuff) you end up with double or triplicate copies of the music on the hard drive eating up drive space. Since they don't use his laptop normally, creating more accounts (with all the associated files and drive space usage each account would eat up) it probably isn't worth it.
Instead, the best approach is like Chris said, to make playlists for the girls in the main library and then set up the various iPod to either sync everything (if big enough) or sync only specific playlists (if not big enough).
Alternatively, they can set their iPods to manual syncing and then when Dad is visiting they can hook up their iPods and "shop" the library and drag in whatever they want to add to the iPods and delete what they no longer want.

  • How can I combine two "My ITunes Folders"

I have been reading the discussion forums for weeks but have not found a solution to my problem and was hoping someone might be able to help. Here is my situation.
    Background:
I have a large collection of CD’s that I wanted to import into itunes. Looking at the prospect of importing approx 4,000 cd’s I decided to “divide and conquer”. My wife took half and I took half and we each proceeded to import the cd’s onto our respective PC’s. Unfortunately when he “met in the middle” we didn’t realize it and we each proceeded to import cd’s that the other had already done (i.e. when comparing our music folders there are some duplicates).
    Problem:
The real question I am trying to get answered is how I can combine the two separate itunes music folders into one. I would like to combine the two folders and then have one itunes music folder that I can import into itunes.
Any Suggestions? We used iTunes to organize the folders so they use the same “artist, album, song” hierarchy.

    Try this -> syncOtunes

  • Okay, so i have two different itunes accounts is there any way that i can merge them together so i can have all my music and stuff on one account? and i have already tried home sharing and it didn't work.

I really need some help with this if anyone knows how please help me!

No. All iTunes purchases remain permanently tied to the account used to purchase them. You can however authorize your computer for multiple accounts and any Apple devices can hold protected content from up to five different accounts at any one time.
If you are trying to merge two separate iTunes libraries into one that is a different problem. Take the largest, add all the content from the smallest, then dedupe.

  • HT1495 Two User Accounts on one PC for two different iTunes accounts

this didnt work....I created a new user account on my computer but iTunes keeps telling me that the apple ID is associated with the computer, not the User Account, so it will not let me download new purchases. Do I need two computers

    Hi Elvis Zuo,
Thank you for the suggestion, which is the only solution I could think of.
The problem is that this then means we have two separate copies of the iTunes library on our computer. At 25GB per library this will take up lots of hard drive space. I would prefer to try and use the same library between our two accounts/iTunes installs.
    Thanks

  • Can two separate iTunes accounts home share music?

Can two separate iTunes accounts home share music? I load music on my mothers iPod nano and my brother would like to load music onto her iPod also. Would there be a problem and what would be the process?

Yes you can set up homesharing on more than one library to be shared with other devices, just use the same homesharing ID and password on all of them.

  • Itunes problem with windows Vista

ok i bought my touchsmart tx2 1025 with windows vista ultimate 64 bit and well i ve noticed that ..well since this is my third time i exchange this computer and i noticed there was a problem with the speakers when i was playing music that anytime during a song i would get this distorted sound like when u put a lot of volume in ipod headphones that it sounds like a crack. Well that happened in my computer even with low volumes.
However I played two times the same song on itunes and two times on windows media player.
Every single time on itunes the sound came as if the speakers were about to blow... like a crack..
Every single time on Windows media player it never sounded like that.
So i am pretty sure its an itunes problem. Does anyone know how to fix this.. i would rather use itunes than windows media player but i really hate the sound it makes sometimes because it shows about 2 to 3 times during one song.

It's possible that the song your playing does indeed have a little audio distortion in it, some media players are capable of filtering it out in a silent way, others play a beep, hence with one song I have, if i play it in windows media player it goes on and then for a split second theres a beep, iTunes doesent seem to do it, so instead of filtering out the missing data, it plays it.
This is more likley a problem with the song than iTunes

I used scripting brigde to add a movie that has size bigger than 5GB, exactly after two minutes iTunes return a failed, but the processing of the file is actually added to iTunes Library successfully. The copying take more than 5 minutes to complete. Why the iTunes Scripting Brigde returned failed when it is actually success? It occurred exactly 2 minutes after submit the request to Scripting Brigde. Is this 2 minutes related to the Apple Event time out? if it does, how do I get around this problem? thx

I can tell you that this is some of the absolutely worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I found out from a store employee that when they are really busy with calls, they have third party companies taking overflow calls. One of those companies is Xerox. What can a Xerox call center rep possibly be able to authorize on a Verizon account?  I'm Sure there is a ton of misinformation out there due to this. They don't note the accounts properly or so everyone can see them. I have been transferred before and have asked if they work for Verizon or a third party also and was refused an answer so, apparently they aren't required to disclose that information. I spent a long time in the store on my last visit and it's not just customers that get the runaround. It happens to the store employees as well and it's beyond frustrating.

  • Two Differnt iTunes Accounts On Same Phone...Please Help

My wife and I both have an iPhone. This morning, she tried to update a couple Apps in the App Store but it showed my iTunes ID and it was asking her for my password. What's funny is that when she purchases an App, it's show her iTunes ID. How can I change this so both updates & purchases are under her ID only? Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

The iPhone will recognize the account through which the apps were purchased and ask for the iTunes Store account information as appropriate. I have apps from two different iTunes Store accounts on my iPads and have no problems updating; the App Store app pops up the Store account ID for the app as appropriate and asks for the password. So she should have no problems.
    Regards.

  • How to compare two big itunes libraries

I´m looking for a way to compare two different itunes libraries, each one with about 50.000 tracks, in order to find all the tracks that aren´t common in both. How can I do this?. How many entries con handle itunes in windows without problems and how much memory I need?
    Thanks in advance
    Dell 9100   Windows XP

I don't think there is a way of doing this directly as iTunes can only handle one library at a time.
You could export each library into a separate text file and then use other software fo compare them. If you have database software, it should be fairly easy to do using that. The files should be easy to import as tab delimited files.

  • Problems with importing CDs - is it an iTunes problem or a computer problem

    Hi,
I just purchased a new iMac in August, and have had problems importing audio CDs into my iTunes library. Sometimes the computer completely skips over certain songs when importing or the songs are imported but have parts skipped over, almost like the cd is skipping while it is importing. This is happening quite frequently, and it is happening with cds that I know aren't scratched, etc, so there is no reason that I can think of that these wouldn't be importing just fine. I'm wondering if this is an iTunes issue or a computer issue. I don't want to bring my computer in to get serviced if this is just merely an iTunes problem.
Thanks so much for your help!

    No, just the touch events.
I think it's because I have an Apple multitouch pad but it functions as a mouse so it's actually sending two notices. It doesn't do it on a touch screen device nor does it do it when everything is switched to mouse events, so I think it's just unique to Device Central and this particular type of mouse.

  • Sync two iPhones with two different iTunes and iPhoto libraries script

I'm sure this is answered elsewhere, but I was not able to find a solution to this easily. My wife "L" and I, "J" have iPhones, also different tastes in music, and wanted a way to not have all of our own pictures filling up our default iPhoto library. So we first set up two different iTunes and iPhoto libraries. Two diffrent contact libraries would be nice, but contact groups worked okay for this. But then everytime we would sync, it meant opening both iTunes and iPhoto while holding the option key then selecting which library depending on which phone was going to be pluged in. Believe me, you only need to have "Automatically sync" turned on and plug in the wrong iPhone before all sorts of problems arise!
Let me state, I am not fluent with AppleScript, but rather I found bits and pieces close to what I wanted here and there on the www and kept playing until it worked. This works flawlessly everytime on our MacBook, and, unless your initials are J & L and there are only two of you, you will have to change some letters here and there throughout the script to make it work for your situation. Think of this as a rough draft and start to play. I'm sure there is a simpler way to write this script, so to all the real authors, please re-write!
So we have two libraries for iTunes and iPhoto. One set of libraries named J's iTunes library and J's iPhoto library, and another two named L's iTunes library and L's iPhoto library. I wanted to create one app that would close the current libraries, and open the correct ones (or return to our default libraries) depending on what iPhone was to be synced. Using AppleScript Editor and saving the script as an application, this is what I came up with:
display dialog "Do you want to continue to set iTunes and iPhoto libraries?" buttons {"Cancel", "Continue"} default button "Continue"
    tell application "iPhoto" to quit
    tell application "iTunes" to quit
set Y to the button returned of (display dialog "Which libraries do you want to use?" buttons {"L's", "Reset to Defaults", "J's"} default button "Reset to Defaults")
if Y = "Reset to Defaults" then set Y to "i"
    if Y = "L's" then set Y to "l"
    if Y = "J's" then set Y to "j"
    tell application "System Events"
      key down option
      delay 1
              tell application "iPhoto"
      activate
      delay 3
                        tell application "System Events"
      key up option
                        end tell
              end tell
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
      keystroke Y
              tell application "System Events"
      key code 36
              end tell
    end tell
    delay 2
    tell application "System Events"
      key down option
              tell application "iTunes"
      activate
                        tell application "System Events"
      key up option
      keystroke return
                        end tell
              end tell
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
      keystroke Y
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
      key code 36
    end tell
if Y = "i" then tell application "iTunes" to quit
if Y = "i" then tell application "iPhoto" to quit

    Hi, thanks for your answer.
Unfortunately this does not work because iTunes still keeps one account with the store active regardless which library I open. So when I switch the account in the store it will be switched for both libraries. That means that I can not separate the iPhone applications and all the other specific sync parameters.
I thought about using my wife's account on the Mac and pointing iTunes to the new library - the problem here is that then the iPhoto library is not accessible any more......
I can't really believe that there is no solution from Apple - I mean there must be more couples and families out there with 2 and more iPhones syncing with one iTunes / iPhoto etc libraries.
Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!
