Two attempts to send a message in Mountain Lion

Hi all.  A question regarding messages in Mountain Lion. When I open up Messages and send a message to an imessage contact, it always takes two attempts to send the initial message. Any messages after that go instantly.
If I then send a message to a different imessage recipient once again it takes two attempts to send on the initial message.
Anyone having the same issues?

When I attempt to send a message the app quits immediately as I hit the send button. iMessage also doesn't work. I have tried restoring it and that has failed.

You mentioned that you tried restoring....have you restored your phone as a NEW device (NOT using your backup)?
Restore your device as NEW.  DO NOT add any apps other than those included with iOS 5.  Try sending messages.  If your phone works, then add your apps back.  If not, then you have a hardware failure and you'll have to bring your phone to Apple for evaluation.

  • In attempting to send a message to one particular contact in my contact list, the answer says not delivered. Why?

When I attempt to send a message to a particular contact on my contact list, it says 'not delivered.' Why this particular contact? None others.

I am guessing you mean an iMessage.
The recipient may not have their Apple device on WiFi at the time you send the message.

  • TS2755 Message on Mountain Lion versus FaceTime

Why is message on Mountain Lion defaulting to Facetime instead of the good old iChat style 4 way video conferencing.
Why is the Invite to Video Chat greyed out?

When I click on the messages icon it says; talk.google.com Password
Messages can’t log in to  ........ ( my email address) because your login ID or password is incorrect.

  • Can't receive iMessages via Messages on Mountain Lion? However, can send.

This seems to be intermittent. At some point Messages stops receiving iMessages. It stops even showing me the iMessages I send from Messages. They are in fact sent though. I can see them on my iPhone and iPad and have confirmed the recipient receives them.
If I remove my account and add it back that sometimes takes care of it. However, it's just a matter of time (usually a day or two) before it stops working again. This is really frustrating. I stopped using Me years ago and this is my first experience trusting Apple with a messaging service again. It's like returning to an abusive relationship! Please help!

    Hi,
There is an issue that sometime crops up in both iChat and Messages  where the individual IMs (or iMessages) don't show up in the Chat even though the chat is progression.
If this describes what is happening to you then go to the View Menu > Messages and change th Style choice to anything but Balloons.  (Only change this when the Chat window is "Front")
    Does this improve things ?
The Message Style are controlled by Plug-ins.
It is not clear what happens to the Balloon one but often people have the symptoms you describe.
Up to iChat 5 (in Snow Leopard)  you could use  the Install disk to reinstall just iChat and then re-update it by running the combo version of the last update (iChat and Messages updates are included in the OS X updates)
I would try Downloading and Installing the Combined version of the last OS X Update over what you have.

  • Need to delete an unsent message in Mountain Lion Mail

I attempted to send a mass e-mail in Mountain Lion mail to over 300 recipients.  The application would not let me do so, so I broke the mailing list up into smaller lists and sent multiple e-mails, which worked.  But now mail constantly notifies me that it cannot send the original e-mail to the multiple recipients.  Is there any way to delete this message?  It doesn't show up in the drafts or sent files, nor in the folders on the iCloud server.

Initially it wasn't showing up in drafts, but after quitting and restarting the application it appeared there and I was able to delete it.  Thanks!

  • Messages on Mountain Lion not working

The iMessage Beta worked fine on Lion (except for the delays, sometimes, but hey, it's a beta). After upgrading to Mountain Lion, however, I'm unable to authenticate, send and receive messages.
I've found that running a PRAM reset (pressing a combination of keys when booting) does fix the problem, but it only works temporarily (until the next boot).
I already tried removing all plist-files, doesn't work. Every fix I found (that is: PRAM reset and booting in Safe-mode) only works one "session" (until I reboot).
When trying to sign in, it hangs for about a minute, and then says it "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.". I already tried turning off my WiFi, and it still hangs and gives this timeout error (so regardless of wether it's actually supposed to try to sign in).
My console shows the following errors:
When delivery fails (that is always, unless I booted in Safe-mode or performed a PRAM reset) and I get this red exclamation mark:
imagent: [Warning] FTMessageDelivery failed! Error (APSErrorDomain:1): Unable to send outgoing message to apsd: (ipc/send) invalid destination port (null)
This always shows up, about 20 times per actual iMessage I tried to send.
When signing in fails (that is always, unless I booted in Safe-mode or performed a PRAM reset)
imagent: [Warning] *** Listener ID: com.apple.dock.extra  does not have capability: (Chats), not allowing request
Followed by a backtrace of the internal calls in imagent. However, this (both the backtrace and the warning above) do not always show up in my logs.
Based on the fact that it's working fine on my iPhone and iPad, and it's working fine too on the other Macs in the same WiFi network, I don't think it's a router firewall issue.
Based on the fact that I do not have any firewall (nor the built-in one) running, I don't think it's that it's a local firewall issue either. I already checked my hosts-file, nothing there (except for the default localhost routes).
Apple is working on better unified support in iOS 6, don't know if that solves my problem, but personally, I don't think that would really make sense (since it's definitely a local system issue).
I hope I provided you with enough information, but if you need more, don't hesitate to ask me .
I really hope you can point me to a permanent fix! Thanks in advance guys!

    Hi,
I would have opened Messages > Preferences > Accounts and deactivated the iMessages account (Untick the Enable this account)
    Then Quit Messages.
The Restart Messages and then restart the Account.
A Re-install would do it but is an awfully big hammer to use.

  • Attempted to redeem free upgrade to Mountain Lion today but App store said the code had already been used... though it hadn't

I was in the process of redeeming my free upgrade to Mountain Lion today, and received a message in the "redeem" section of the App store that the redemption code had already been used. It hadn't been, unless there's a glitch in Apple's system that assigns codes. I accidentally clicked the submit button twice within a few seconds (believing I hadn't clicked it the first time, as nothing on the page indicated that I had submitted the form), as I was attempting to "redeem" my free upgrade.
Any ideas of what to do would be great. I'm brand new to the Mac world, and am interested in running the most up-to-date OS, especially since I've just procured the very top of the line new Macbook Pro w/Retina display, etc.
    Thanks,

  • Cannot send mail since installing mountain lion

I'm using aol mail.  I receive mail with no problems. Since installing Mountain Lion on my new Mac when I try to send mail I get a message that I can't send using aol server.  Mail settup indicates everything is working fine. I have no problems sending mail with a Macbook Pro and a PC on the same wireless network.

This seemed to work for me: First be sure all your mail is stored on the server (eg AOL) or you may lose it. If it is NOT stoerd on the server, DON'T DO THIS
In Mail Preferences / accounts, use the -(minus) sign to delete All of your accounts one by one
Now use the + to add account, and reinstall all of your accounts one by one.
It does seem to work and mail is now sent

  • Messages on Mountain Lion: 2 separate accounts, but not working separately?

On my iMac, I've been using Messages to text others with Messages. I use my Apple ID email address for this.
Recently, another family member (who shares the computer) wanted to set up their own Messages account. I set it up (thinking I was doing it correctly). However, it appears that all messages are always using MY message id.
Does there have to be another apple ID for the second Message account?
While it gives the option to "start new messages using" the second account, when that person uses it, it appears that MY icon and account are being used. They always set it to use their message account to start messages. They set up their own icon and that's how we realized what is happening.
All the messages that go to that person, seem to be using MY account, my message "i.d." and email address.
I'm sure I did something wrong. When I disable my account, NO messages can come through.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks.

  • Can't screen share in messages osx mountain lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have been unable to connect to someone else's computer via Messages and share their screen.  I use this to help my parents with computer problems.
I have checked, and their "capabilities" do not show screen sharing, but I never had a problem with this before.  Any suggestions?

  • How do I have two windows open side by side in Mountain Lion

I want to open two windows side by side for comparison purposes.  Can anyone tell me how to do this please?  BUT when I input something into one window, I don't want the other window to close.  I know this can be done on my Windows laptop but I'm now using Mountain Lion on a new Mac - maybe it's something I have to learn to do without.
    Any help would most appreciated.
    Thanks Sue.

You want to have two browser windows open at the same time?
In Safari, just type command + n, and a new Safari window will open. You can use either window independently.
(Trust I have understood your question.)

  • Is there a way to refresh Messages in Mountain Lion?

I have noticed a reoccurring issue in regards to the Messages app in Mountain Lion. It often times does not sync messages correctly. Or sometimes it has a long delay for receiving messages, and out of order. The messages app for ios has a pull down to refresh option, is there any similar feature for the Mac OS version? If there currently is how do you force a refresh?

    HI,
At present the Out of Order iMessages is a "known Issue".
The current best "fix" is to relaunch the app after an sync period has caught up.

  • How are we able to sign out of Messages on Mountain Lion?

I want to sign out with the apple ID associated with Messages and sign in with a new one. Any Ideas?

    HI all,
The Preferences are in the Message Menu (like most apps).
That is to say the current "Front" app gets listed next to the Apple Icon top left and this is a menu which you can click to drop down and Preferences is an option in there.
In Message Menu > Preferences > Accounts select the iMessages Account.
The default is that on first start up of Message it will ask you to create an iMessage Account using an Apple ID which then appears at the top of the list before it picks up on (what were) iChat Accounts names that are in System Preference > Mail, Contacts and Calendars.
However not everyone does this so it may not be top of the List (your can also re-order the by dragging the accounts about the list).
There is a Sign Out button in view if you are at OS X 10.8.2 (Messages Ver 7.0.1)
    Use the Sign Out Button.
It will not hurt to also Untick the "Enable this Account" box.
Messages can then be restarted and will not have an active iMessage account.
