Two Cisco Routers in one class-c network

Hello,
i have two cisco routers, which are connected to one switch. On this switch, there are several servers connected as well.
When i connected the second cisco router, i got messages on the first router, that there is an ip address conflict. After a few minutes it seems as if the vpn tunnel on the first router breaks down because of this conflict. I'm not sure about this, but when i disconnected the second router again, the vpn tunnel could be established again. The vpn tunnel goes to another router via WAN and ends in the local class-c network, where both routers are in.
Router1
LAN 192.168.105.254 (255.255.255.0)
WAN 212.xxx.xxx.xxx

Cisco Switch

Router2
LAN IP 192.168.105.253 (255.255.255.0)
WAN IP 217.xxx.xxx.xxx
Router1
int fa 0/1
ip address 192.168.105.254 255.255.255.0
Router2
int fa 0/1
ip address 192.168.105.253 255.255.255.0
Could the /24 mask on the interfaces cause the conflicts?
From the servers, none has the ip 192.168.105.253 or 192.168.105.254 and if i disconnect Router2, the IP 192.168.105.253 is not reachable from any system on the switch.
So how does this ip address conflict occur?

hello,
can you check the router 1 log. with error message you should have a mac address
May 10 05:32:20.489: %IP-4-DUPADDR: Duplicate address 10.10.10.1 on GigabitEthernet0/1.1, sourced by 0003.oc12.a2c3
This should help you to identify host already with 192.168.105.253.
Before connecting Router 2, from Router 1 ping 192.168.105.253 and do a sh arp ?
HTH,

If there are two synchronized methods in one class then what will be the beheviour of the threads accessing the methods.

Synchronization is on objects, not methods or classes. A thread, entering a synchronized method, synchronizes on the object on which that method is called. Another thread, attempting to synchronize on that object, will be made to wait until the first thread releases it.

• Two WRT610N Routers Which One to Keep, Which One to Return?

For Christmas I received two WRT610N routers as gifts.  While the model number is the same they appear to be different versions, or at least in different packaging.
The first one is in an all blue box and is called N Ultra Range Plus Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router.  UPC# 45883 58520.
The second one is in a blue box with a red banner on the front and a red side panel.  On that box the router is called a Simultanteous Dual Band Wireles-N Gigabit Router. The UPC# is also 4583 58520.
Since I want to return one of them, I have not yet opened either box, so here are my questions:
Are these the exact same products?
Is one V1 and the other V2? How can you tell V1 from V2?
Is V2 better than V1 or is it just a firmware update to the same hardware?
If they are not the same product, which one should I keep and which one should I return?
Thanks for your help!

I agree with richard - I didn't mention this in my last post
Unless you are in dire need of some other piece of equipment and can exchange the 2nd router for it - I would keep them both -- especially since Santa brought them and you have no actual cost ($$) in them
I maintain two different home networks and help 2 different business keep their small networks running -- I have a spare/extra router for 'each' of my home networks - and the two business' always has a spare router on hand - in case of an emergency
I'm not sure about your chipset question -- but I beieve you may be able to tell the version # by the S/N - google around to check on the S/N--Version question --- or ask Liknsys Chat -- it's faster than a phone call - http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/chat

• Can I use two MI424WR routers in one house?

Hello, I currently have one Fios provided router in my home but I need to move it so that the wireless signal reaches my master bedroom, which right now it doesn't, but if I were to move my router to another room I would be forced to move my computer desk and unfortunately I can't do that right now.  My question is can I acquire a second MI424WR router in which I can attach via coax cable and use it as a nonwireless router, by turning off the wireless, so I can use for internet access for my home PC that is connected via ethernet cable?  Thanks for any help.

I found this online after some research:
Verizon Coaxial Network Adapter
Model #: ECB2200V
I understand that I can use this adapter to get my signal to the computer but is it possible to use another router instead?  I ask because this network adapter has only one Ethernet jack and costs almost $80.  The MI424WR routers are like $30 on ebay and have 4 ethernet ports.  The ethernet ports are important to me because I have two computers at my desk and sometimes link a third.
Yes if you only plan on using it as a MOCA bridge and switch. I would say the ones on Ebay are older and perhaps Rev, A-D and are not very good as a router with the newer speeds. Even as a WiFi access point for a second location, it might not work as well as the latest Rev. I.
Just be sure you set the DHCP to off, do not use the WAN port, and be sure to set the LAN port to a different address other that the default 192.168.1.1, which would cause conflicts with your existing router. Use a decent bi-directional splitter at the new location to split the coax.

• Cascaded routers as one mega-wifi--network?

Hi,
Right now, I have 3 Cisco/linksys routers linked together in my house.
1) Master (connected to modem)WRT160Nv3
2) WRT54G2
3) WRT54G
As of now, I have them cascaded properly, and they each have their own wi-fi name.
You can acces the internet from any of them, because they are all connected to the WRT160Nv3
Is there any way to make these one big, single wi-fi network, not 3 separate ones? ex, with seamless transitions between routers?

Yes. Set them up as access point. Assuming the WRT160N is still on LAN IP 192.168.1.1 set up the second WRT as follows:
1. Internet connection type to Automatic/DHCP.
2. LAN IP 192.168.1.2
3. Disable DHCP server.
4. Wire one of the LAN ports of the second WRT to a LAN port of the main.
Do the same with the third except choosing 192.168.1.3 for LAN IP address.
For a wireless roaming network, choose identical SSID, wireless encryption, and passphrase. Make sure SSID broadcast is enabled on all WRTs. Choose different channels on each, e.g. 1,6,11 for best performance on all access points.
Good wireless clients should now be able to roam seamlessly between access points. But how well it works depends on the wireless card and the driver implementation. Some drivers will remain connected until the connection is lost and will then reconnect which will result in a brief interruption.

• One Printer - two wireless routers, and one Airport Express

Hi all,
I'll do my best to describe this convoluted situation in detail, please feel free to ask questions—I need all the help I can get.
I am in an office with 5 Macs (some with wireless capabilities: my Intel iMac, a Mac mini, an eMac with a wireless card, and a new iMac running OSx 10.5) and one eMac with no wireless capabilities.
We're all connected to an Actiontec router. The one eMac is hard-wired via ethernet to the router and the rest of us receive the signal wirelessly through an 2' thick concrete wall that makes for a slow connection. Our printer, an OKIdata C3200N, is also hard-wired via Ethernet to the router, which allows us wireless Macs to print on a crappy, slow connection.
I got fed up with the slowness and brought in an Airport Express, which is now also hard-wired to the ethernet port and seamlessly and easily connects all the wireless-capable Macs to the internet. It's a joy. However, whenever we wanted to print, we had to switch to the slower Actiontec network b/c the printer was not connected to the Aiport Express.
I figured I could remedy this by plugging a USB printer cable from the printer to the AX and all the wireless Macs would automatically find the printer through Bonjour. It seemed like a good plan; though I was worried that the printer would be confused by having both the Ethernet connection AND the AX connection (this could be the case).
Now, I have been able to be on the AX network, find the printer via Bonjour (with Printer Sharing turned on). However, when I print to it (or any of the other Macs in the office try to print to it) a variety of errors happens:
...the printer jobs are paused and will not resume (this happens on the iMac running OSX 10.5)
...the print queue spools and says "waiting to complete job"
Do I need to configure something through the Airport Admin Utility? Is this a lost cause because the printer is connected two ways to our computers? Is there any hope for printing on the AX connection?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Thank you so much Duane. Can you clarify what you mean by:
I would recommend returning the printer connection to the original configuration.
Thanks! I'll look up the other stuff about AX as a bridge (now to remember that AX admin password....)
Thanks!

• Using two versions of the one class together?? (I think)

Hi, see the following small program, where the user can enter an int, and the program draws that amount of lines, joined together at a centre point. The user can then move these lines around the centre by dragging the red dot at the end of the lines.
Anyway, what I want to be able to do, is have two different versions of this program running side by side, independently of each other. (ie one might have 4 lines, the other have 3). Each one, would also be able to read data from each other.
Is this possible?

• Two family home sharing one Verizon Fios network. I want to use my time capsule to boost the signal in my basement apartment while still using the Fios network for the apartment upstairs. Is this possible?

Hi there,
I just moved into a basement apartment in a two family home. We share internet and cable. The signal in my apartment is mediocre at best and I wanted to use my time capsule to boost the signal in my apartment while keeping their Fios network intact upstairs. Is there any way to do this without having to turn off the wifi in the Verizon actiontec router? Any help or tips would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

The only way to boost signal with apple products is to another apple product.
Or run ethernet or some other replacement for wireless. eg EOP (homeplug) adapters. These are not foolproof though.. they depend on circuits being wired via simple fuses and can at times not work.
Your other choice is to get an Airport Express.. plug it into the FIOS router and use that to establish a network.. it can also be used as a wireless bridge in the downstairs area but you can pick whichever works the best. If your wireless is reasonable at least in one location downstairs any wireless bridge could do the same thing.. and plug into the TC for your downstairs wireless.

• Load Balancing b/w two cisco router

Hello Friends,
Please advise me,We are using two Cisco Routers with F5 Load balancer,
Router A (Cisco 2811) has one ISP configured
Router B (Cisco 3825) has the other ISP configured
ISP on Router A has 5 Mbps Bandwidth
ISP on Router B has 10 Mbps Bandwidth
My Doubt is if the load balancer is down, how to utilize the ISP (or) How to divert the connection ?
Here i have attached my N/w diagram for ur reference..........
Can someone solve my question.............please
Thank you.

Hi Mohamed,
With default routing in use you can just configure one default route on each router   But it would only do load sharing not load balancing.
PFR(performance routing) is a better solution but have never tried with two diffferent router series. Also need to validate if the router series you are using supports PFR.

• Two Routers off One Cable Modem?

Can I run two routers off one cable modem, one a hardwired Windows network and the other an Airport Extreme networking a Powerbook G4 and wireless printer?

No you cannot - unless you pay your cable internet service provider for two public IP addresses.
What I would suggest if you already have the base station but have not yet purchased the router:
- connect the cable modem to the Base Station's WAN port
- buy a 4- or 8-port ethernet switch. Connect to the switch the LAN port of the Base Station, and all of your hardwired PCs
What I would suggest if you already have a router and base station:
- connect the cable modem to the router's WAN port
- connect all the hardwired PCs to the router's LAN ports
- connect the Airport Base Station to one of the router's LAN ports, and configure the Base Station to function as a wireless access point per http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx/.59976caa

• Two wireless routers on same home network

hi -  i have one wireless router downstairs and i want to install another one upstairs to get better connectivity.  I have wired Ethernet jacks around the house and I can connect the wireless router to those.  If I do this will I be able to roam around my house; I want to make sure I have one wireless network, not two.
thanks!

You can as long as they are connected via a wire (using Linksys firmware).  In a nut shell you are going to connect the two routers together, router 1 will have IP 192.168.1.1, router 2 will have IP 192.168.2.1.  You will turn off DHCP on one of the routers so only one router will be passing out addresses to your devices.  You can have the same SSID on both routers but should have different channels like 1&6 (or 6&11 or 1&11) to avoid 'co-channel' interference.
Search Google for 'connecting two wireless routers' and read up on it.

• Securing Telnet access on Cisco routers (access class)

Dear All,
In all my network i have cisco catalyst switch and cisco routers deployed in my WAN. In cisco routers, it was activated an ACL to secure telnet access to WAN devices. only 3 hosts (remote) were autorized to access these devises. I need to modify this secuirty to have access from the LAN (locally).
The ACL was implmented in all routers, and activated using access class in.
in there any idea without changing more the configuration and only tell the router to apply this ACL for WAN and not access for the LAN ?
Thanks for your help,

• CALLING ALL EXPERTS - Connected TWO Actiontec Routers to use one as main and second as GUEST

Hello Experts-
I have TWO Actiontec Routers from Fios. I bought the new N one, and I have an old Actiotec that I was previously not using.  So here is what I am trying to do...
I'd like to leave Router 1 (the New N router) as my primary router (comes from ONT via cat5 wire NOT Coax) and Set-up the second router off the first to be a guest router.  So essentially make it a bridge.
I can't seem to configure it to work correctly.
Can anyone out there give me a step-by-step walkthru on how to configure this second router so I can have them both hooked up, seperate SSID, with one as the Main and the other being the Guest?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
Rob
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I'm basically wondering how to change the routers IP address and where the Disable DHCP is within the menus.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!
Rob
To change the IP address of the Local Area network choose:
My Network
Network Connections
Click edit on the row for "Network (Home/)office"
On the next screen click Settings
On the next screen you can change the LAN (192.168.1.1) address to something different.
On the same screen you can disable DHCP too.
I hope this helps.

• Manage Cisco ISR routers as one device

I'm looking for a tool that allows me to manage two Cisco ISR routers (2911) as one device ("cluster" device or "virtual" device).
Both routers are connected directly to the internet and are using HSRP to perform a function of the virtual default gateway for LAN devices.
What about Cisco ASA in Active/Active or Active/Passive Failover mode?
Thanks,
Jernej

No, this is not currently possible.  The devices need to be managed using their individual IP addresses (i.e. not the virtual IP of HSRP).  You'll generally want to do that for the time being since both devices will have their own CPU, memory, buffer, etc. characteristics.
