Two computers accessing the 802.11n Basestation - problems . . .

While trying to get my base station to allow me to "see" my new HD, I kept messing with the settings in the base station set-up. I am NOT a networking specialist by far . . .
Anyway, I now have access to the disk, but anytime one of our other computers tries to access the network for internet access, it immediately slows down the other one - or knocks the other one off. Some kind of DHCP error comes up on my wife's PB G4.
It is not an issue of the flavor of 802.11 - both machines (Macbook core duo, and Powerbook G4) are 802.11g machines.
Both accessed the connection fine, with no problems a week ago.
I will add that I recently had to replace the HD in the Powerbook, but everything seems fine otherwise.
When one of the computers only is accessing, everything is fine.
Any ideas?

Unfortunately that hasn't worked. The g card is working fine, but the n cant go online when the g is online. They both are recognized and accepted by the airport station, but it will only let the g online if they are both logged on at the same time.

  • Two computers accessing one external disk with iTunes ?

I have my iTunes music files located on an external firewire disk connected to my iMac.
Can I set up access from a Windows based laptop so that I have in fact two computers accessing the same set of music files?
If so, when I add music from either the Windows laptop or iMac will the other computer 'see' the files or must I do something first?

I have Time Machine set up with both an iMac and my MacBook using the same drive. But unlike what Canada Steve is doing I've set the MacBook to look at the hard disk as a network volume so backups can be done at the same time and restoring can be done wirelessly.

  • We lost access to are computers in the last two month and we want to know how to deauthorize two computers from the itunes account can you please help us?

We lost access to are computers in the last two months and we want to know how to deauthorize two computers from the ituns account can you please help me please?

If you don't have access to the computers to manually deauthorize them (they were sold, stolen, etc), then you have to log into your account, deauthorize all computers, and then re-authorize the machine(s) that you want to have access. This page explains how.

  • HP Color LaserJet 1500L - drops off the 802.11n network

My HP Color LaserJet 1500L drops off the network (it just stops printing). This happens when it is plugged into the usb bus of my new 802.11n base station or directly into the usb bus of a computer. The only way to fix it seems to be to plug it directly into a computer and unplug the usb plug and replug it, or to add the printer again. This problem has occurred in the past, but over time, and after various upgrades to the operating systems and hardware, etc, the situation tends to change. Before I installed the 802.11n base station the printer was staying in contact with my computers, but now it is misbehaving again. I doubt there is a real solution out there now, because it happened before and I never did discover a direct fix, but I thought the problem to be worth posting. This problem does not happen with my Canon PhotoPrinter iP6000S, which sticks to my network like glue whereever I plug it in (airport express, airport extreme, direct to computer, etc.) The HP loses contact with either of my computers in exactly the same way.
Mac Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, and iMac Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   airport express, airport extreme 802.11n, cable modem
iMac Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

To use the OS X standard network protocols (Windows/IP printing), you must have either a postscript printer (the driver in that case is just a ppd for the OS X postscript output) OR, a driver designed to work with CUPS (CUPS driver). HP doesn't provide CUPS drivers for OS X (who knows why, since they do for linux).
You need to install foomatic and ESP ghostscript:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/foomatic/
    then, install the foo2oak driver:

  • Airport Extreme - Only the 802.11n only (5 ghz) works

Airport Extreme - Only the 802.11n only (5 ghz) works
Posted: Sep 21, 2008 2:50 AM Reply Email
I just bought an new Airport extreme Base station, and i am not very good with network settings. I am experience an weird problem.
I follow the instruction to set up the Airport extreme. I get the green light on the extreme, everything went well up to that point. but then when i try to connect to the internet wirlessly, it won't let me.
The weird thing is... the computers that were connecting wirely to the Airport extreme using ethernet works fine. but my macbook pro and along with other labtops are not being able to connect to the internet. On my macbook pro, it first says connection failed after i put in my password. but after couple try on entering the password( i thought i typed it in wrong), it finally connected to the network but still no internet. then I went to the network preference panel to check, it says i am connected but with a self-assigned IP and may not be able to connect to the internet.
The even worse thing is... if i change my airport extreme to only broadcast the 802.11n only (5 GHZ) mode, everything works fine. But of course I have some device in the house are not N compatible, which makes this "solution" pretty useless. I understand n is faster and all, but I still want my G compatible device to work with my network.
It will be really nice if anyone can give me a solution and help me get the 802.11n (a/b/g compatible) works.
    Thank you.

I am having the exact same issue with my Macbooks. I have 2 Macbooks and they've all stopped connecting to the Airport Extreme router via wireless N. Yeah, I can switch to 5ghz mode, but then my PC laptop, iPod Touch, wireless printer, Xbox 360 wifi adapter and Nintendo Wii all can't connect as they all use wireless a/b/g.
BRUTAL. When are we going to get a fix for this? How do I roll back to a previous rev of OSX, if that's the issue (it must be, as this recently stopped working - i.e. when I installed the latest OS update - when it has worked fine for months).

  • How to stop a file opening on two computers at the same time?

in OS9, if a file was open, another computer on the network couldn't open it. Now in 10.4 we can have the file open on two computers and the first they know is when one goes to save it. We still want to access and edit the file across the network, just not at the same time. Is there a better way to do this?
    thanks

Some applications take note of files being open in multiple locations. One great example is Circus Ponies Notebook, which warns a user opening a file if it is still open for another user.

  • How to fix the "Two computers using the same IP address" issue on the airport express

I just bought an airport express and got dsl at my apartment, and I haven't been able to set up the wireless connection. My DSL works just fine but whenever I hook up the AX I get an error message saying that there are two computers using the same IP address on the network, but I only have one computer.
I know this is probably a simple fix, but I've never had this issue when I set up the Extreme at my parents house and I haven't been able to find a thread on this.
As of right now I have it set to Factory settings.
    Help please!

This modem was designed to connect directly to a computer and you are trying to connect it to a router.
Unfortunately, this is not a simple fix as both the modem and your AirPort Express will need to be configured differently to work together correctly.
Connect the modem directly to your computer.
Open up your browser and type the default IP address for the modem into the address bar. Check your documentation on the modem but it is likely 192.168.1.254
That will bring up the configuration page for the modem.
You may need to enter the modem access code which is on a label on the back or bottom of the device
Look for an Advanced tab, then look for a tab labeled something like PPP Location
Right now, you will see that "PPP is on the modem"
Chance that to "PPP is on the computer or router"
Click to save your new settings and the modem will restart
If you ever need to get the modem back to its original settings, you will need to hold in the reset button on the back of the modem for 5-6 seconds and then enter in the default IP address to be able to access the settings on the modem
Connect the modem to the AirPort Express with an Ethernet cable
Open AirPort Utility on your Mac and click Continue to follow the guided setup to "Create a wireless network"
You may be asked to "switch" networks when you do this. You want to switch
Select the "Connect Using PPPoe" option when it appears
Enter your user name and password with your provider. Leave the Service Name area blank. You want to always stay connected if you see that option
Continue to follow the guided setup and Update to save settings
Pull the power cord from the modem, wait a moment, then restart the modem
Log on to the wireless network that you created during the setup and you should have an Internet connection

  • Cannot connect two computers to the same game server HELP!

I have a Linksys WRT54G Router.  I have two computers and I want to be able to use them on the same gaming server.  Unfortunately, the game only have one port, so I can only port forward one of my computers.  How can I configure my router to have two external IP addresses to the server so it won't kick one of my computers out.  Thanks!

    Hi,
I am in a gaming community and many members have a Linksys at home (but I don't know which kind exactly). Many of us try to connect two computers to the same server (many have a family). It seems it is a common problem that no one can connect two computers to the same game server.
    I have a BEFSR41 V3 Firmware version 1.04.8
I use fixed IP address and no connectivity problem on Internet.
I have win XP SP2 on both computer.
I am using a DSL modem
I can connect the two computers to two different game servers at same time, but not the same server. Default port for this game is the same for all servers I use. I tried with both port forwarding enabled (in that case one PCs can connect the other not) or not (in the second case, whenever the second PC connects, the first one lose his connection to the server, no mater the order I try to connect my PCs).
Now the weird thing is that one member in my community just decided to throw away his Linksys router and he bought another brand (which I won't name to remains politically correct). Now, without changing anything in his PCs or his connection type, he can now play with two PC on the same server.
I am seriously thinking doing the same move. Since more and more game are now using Internet (and servers that controls piracy, $$) and family want to play together, not being able to connect two PCs on the same game server makes Linksys in bad situation from marketing point of view.
For example, in my gaming communtity, we now all know that Linksys can't handle two PC on same server, but other brand can...
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • PLEASE HELP. Two computers with the same External IP Address

I have two computers with the same IP address which is causing problems. I tried to ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew but I get the error "No operation can be performed on a Local Area Connection* 11 while it has its media disconnected.
I tried resetting router/modem, made sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" are all enabled. DHCP is enabled.
Two of the computers have the same one and the other IP is completely different (not 1 or 2 off). When I open the router settings and click DHCP Reservation it shows the IPs 1 number off and all different like you said. i.e ***.***.*.106, ***.***.*.107,
***.***.*.108. But with the proxy service I'm using, when trying to allow each computer to use them it shows different IP addresses than what is shown in the DHCP Reservation.
If I clone my MAC address the identical IP of the two computers changes but they'll still share the same IP. The third doesn't change.
I tried ipconfig /release - ipconfig /renew - ipconfig /flushdns nothing yet. Not sure about your #2 and #3. And I just updated my firmware.
    Anyone with expertise? Thanks.

Cyber_Defend_Team and ZigZag3143x I powered down all three computers and turned off/reset the modem and router.
I restarted them one by one and after, the two computers with the conflicting IP address changed their IPs but their IPs are still conflicting.  The third computers IP stayed the same.
    What else can we do?

  • Question: why the 802.11n doesn't work on my brand new MacBook?

    dear sirs,
I've just found out that the 802.11n upgrade doesn't work for my MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core Duo. How come? Is it possible? What should I do to have it talk to my also new AirPort Extreme 802.11n at the same rate?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Tomaso

Also on http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/performance.html it states:Most currently shipping Mac systems support the next-generation 802.11n technology in the new AirPort Extreme Base Station.2
    2. All Mac computers with Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Xeon processors except the 17-inch iMac with 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor support the 802.11n technology in AirPort Extreme. These 802.11n-compatible Mac systems require enabler software that is included on the AirPort Extreme CD.

  • Is it possible to Have a Catalog sync across Two computers over the internet?

Is it possible to Have a Elements 12 Catalog sync across Two computers over the internet?  I have a laptop I use in the Field when I take pictures and a Desktop at my house that I use to Edit the Photos.  I would like the Catalog Synced across both computers.  IE I download pictures from the Camera onto the laptop and they automatically sync over to the desktop then when I edit the pictures on the Desktop they go back to the laptop.
    Is this possible?
What would I need to have it work?

You could put the pictures in the field on your laptop
Send them to Dropbox from your laptop
At home, when you are on the desktop, access the pictures from Dropbox and put them in a folder of choice
Enhance the pictures in PSE, then send them to a destination folder, to preclude overwriting the orginals
Populate the organizer from the destination folder
This requires that you install Dropbox (free, with quite a bit of storage) on both machines. I have the app on my ipad as well, and it synchs perfectly (no catalog, however).
One advantage to this type of work-flow would be that you can get rid of the non-keepers and save the pictures that you fixed at home, prior to any organizer machinations. The old axiom: It's a virtue to be selective.

  • One again, "can I use CC on two computers at the same time?" - in practice.

I know this has been asked before and all those threads are locked. Many asked the question, but I haven't found a satisfying answer yet.
Can I multi task with CC?
I want to have my laptop next to my desktop. And while I render, export or whatever my newly shot documentary on the laptop I want to work with a music video project on my desktop. Then when the render is finished I render the music video and go back to the laptop and continue on the documentary. Or maybe I just work 5 minutes on the desktop music video, then come up with something brilliant for the project on the laptop and switch. Back and forth. Will that kind of activity result in any kind of limitation, usage-wise?
So, working on Premiere on my two computers at the same time.. is it possible? Technically? I know the EULA says "only one person". But will it let one person mutli task?
I need to know this before I buy. sorry for asking this again, please bless me with a clear answer

    Hi Jimmy Crim,
Yes in case of Creative cloud subscription you are allowed to install and use the cc apps in any two machines.
Even if you want you care allowed to use these apps together in both the machines.
    Thanks
    Kapil

  • Two computers share the same wi-fi Modem . When computer A reads a message it is marked as read on both PC's, not allowing computer B to see what must be read.

Two computers share the same WI-fi Modem . When computer A reads a message it is marked as read on both PC's, not allowing computer B to see what must still be read. Email is Thunderbird.
Please help, Thank you for this online support option

Imap wasn't designed for this kind of multi user situation. It assumes that you the account owner will be using it to manage one account via multiple devices. So once you have read a message it has been read, regardless of which device you were using at the time.
You appear to be describing a situation where you want more than one user to read each message, without anyone knowing if anyone else has read it or even dealt with it. Frankly, I can't imagine a set of circumstances where this workflow would make sense or be useful.
You can do various things such as manually setting messages as unread, or moving them from one folder to another to indicate that they have been processed, but much of this relies on users being thorough and conscientious.
You may need to be running your own server to do this sort of email message managing, if you really need to fork a message so it gets to multiple recipients. Managing which users see a particular message is a job for a server, not the end-user's email client.

  • Two computers using the same display

Can I use one cinema display with two computers ate the same time. that is, can i have my MBP and a Mac Mini connected and switch between the two?

Try Gefen and have a look in their Apple Section.
I think a 2-1 DVI KVM switch is all you need. But of course the HD Mate Scaler will do everything.
